:00:17. > :00:20.Good afternoon. The Environment Minister says he is "absolutely

:00:20. > :00:25.determined" to get answers about food testing in the UK at a summit

:00:25. > :00:27.examining the horsemeat scandal. His comments come after the

:00:28. > :00:31.supermarket chain, Aldi, announced it was withdrawing a number of

:00:31. > :00:33.ready meals which were found in some cases to be made entirely from

:00:34. > :00:36.horsemeat. Mr Paterson is holding an urgent meeting with the Food

:00:36. > :00:46.Standards Agency, retailers and meat suppliers to discuss the

:00:46. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:53.problem. Jon Brain reports. What is being labelled as the horsemeat

:00:53. > :00:57.scandal is showing few signs of being brought under control. The

:00:57. > :01:03.supermarket chain, Aldi, is the latest to withdraw ready meals from

:01:03. > :01:07.sale. It is alleged this Findus new about the horsemeat in products, up

:01:07. > :01:11.to a week before informing the food industry regulator. As food

:01:11. > :01:17.standard agency officials and retailers meet, the questions are

:01:17. > :01:20.what caused the crisis and how can it be resolved? The retailer or the

:01:20. > :01:24.manufacture does not know where the prurbgts are coming from. There are

:01:24. > :01:29.too many people in the way. You have to think about keeping it

:01:29. > :01:34.simple. The farmer, to the abattoir, to the meat processor.

:01:34. > :01:38.But this goes beyond short comings in the industry itself. There are

:01:38. > :01:43.suggestions that a criminal network bowled be hind the scandal.

:01:43. > :01:47.The withdrawal of two products by this factory by Aldi shows the

:01:47. > :01:52.seriousness of the problem. I am determined to get to the bottom of

:01:52. > :01:56.it. There may be grows independence, there may well be an international

:01:56. > :02:01.criminal conspiracy asy. This is becoming a Europe-wide

:02:01. > :02:05.problem. Several Findus meals have been taken from the shelves in

:02:05. > :02:12.France and in Sweden. More countries may follow suit. Findus's

:02:12. > :02:16.supplier, Comigel, has clients in other parts of Scandinavia, as well

:02:16. > :02:19.as Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Here Findus sought to

:02:19. > :02:25.reassure customers, toiking autoadverts in national newspapers

:02:25. > :02:29.to apologise for what has happened, but many shoppers remain concerned.

:02:29. > :02:34.You lose confidence in pre-bought things. You don't know where it is

:02:34. > :02:39.coming from. I always read the labels but you can't trust them at

:02:39. > :02:45.all. No way. I buy from the butcher's. I think they should be

:02:45. > :02:49.doing something drastic. It should be taken from the shelves. It is

:02:49. > :02:56.not thought that the products pose a risk to health, but it is clear

:02:56. > :02:58.that a large section of the food supply chain is on the line. Our

:02:58. > :03:08.Business Correspondent Andy Moore is outside the DEFRA meeting which

:03:08. > :03:09.

:03:09. > :03:14.is still going on. Andy, what are we expecting to come out of it?

:03:14. > :03:17.meeting has been going on for about an hour. There are representatives

:03:17. > :03:21.of Aldi and Morrisons, but Owen Paterson said before solving the

:03:22. > :03:26.problem we have to find out the extent of it. He has ordered the

:03:26. > :03:29.retailers and food processors to carry out texts on the products. He

:03:29. > :03:33.wants wants the results by Friday. Those in the food industry say that

:03:33. > :03:38.is a tall order but that they will do their best to comply with it.

:03:38. > :03:43.That meeting is going on at the moment. We hope to hear from Owen

:03:43. > :03:47.Paterson later on as to what he is going to do about the growing

:03:47. > :03:52.horsemeat scandal. Thank you.

:03:52. > :03:56.No-one will be expected to pay more than 75,000 for social care in

:03:56. > :04:01.England, after which the State picks up the tab. The details to be

:04:01. > :04:03.anonced on Monday by the Health Secretary are part of the

:04:03. > :04:08.Government's long-awaited reform noose social care, but the figure

:04:08. > :04:10.is higher than that proposed by the Dilnot coalition, which the

:04:11. > :04:13.coalition established to consider the The Crown Prosecution Service

:04:14. > :04:16.has been explaining what steps it took to support a musician who

:04:16. > :04:18.killed herself, within days of being cross-examined about the

:04:18. > :04:21.sexual abuse that she'd suffered as a teenager. Problem.

:04:21. > :04:23.It said that Frances Andrade, who was 48, was assigned a dedicated

:04:23. > :04:32.witness care officer and the prosecutor had been selected

:04:32. > :04:35.because of his skill in handling sensitive cases. Millions of people

:04:35. > :04:38.in the north-eastern United States have been warned to stay at home

:04:38. > :04:42.because of a powerful snow storm which has closed airports and

:04:42. > :04:45.brought down power lines. Airlines cancelled more than 4,300 flights,

:04:45. > :04:54.including 32 flights from America which were due to arrive at

:04:54. > :04:57.Heathrow. This report is from Helen Fawkes. Blizzards have hit the

:04:57. > :05:03.north-east of the United States. Now it is feared that there could

:05:03. > :05:06.be record snowstorms. In New York City, 1400 snowploughs are on

:05:06. > :05:10.standby. Residents have been given a stark warning.

:05:10. > :05:16.Stay off the city streets. Stay out of your cars. Stay in the homes

:05:16. > :05:19.while the worst of the storm is on us. That is for your protection

:05:19. > :05:23.during potentially hazardous outdoor conditions.

:05:23. > :05:26.For those trying to leave the city, thousands of flights have been

:05:26. > :05:31.cancelled at New York's three main airports.

:05:31. > :05:35.I was at JFK, they sent me here, now this is cancelled. Now they

:05:35. > :05:38.have me booked for a flight tomorrow night, if the flights are

:05:38. > :05:41.going. Five states declared a state of

:05:41. > :05:44.emergency. Hundreds of thousands of homes are without power. People

:05:44. > :05:50.living in Boston are preparing themselves for up to a metre of

:05:50. > :05:54.snow. I saw the big one but that is sold.

:05:54. > :05:58.Only the small one is left. People are buying flash lights as well.

:05:58. > :06:02.Some are managing to make the most of the weather, before what the

:06:02. > :06:05.forecasters say could be the worst storm in decades.

:06:05. > :06:09.The Health Secretary has said that the police should look from the

:06:09. > :06:12.evidence of the public inquiry into the deaths of hundreds of people

:06:12. > :06:16.into the Mid Staffordshire Health Trust scandal. In an interview with

:06:16. > :06:22.the Daily Telegraph, Jeremy Hunt said it was outrageous that no-one

:06:22. > :06:26.had been brought to book for the care failings at the Stafford

:06:26. > :06:30.Hospital. Five other hospitals are to be investigated.

:06:30. > :06:32.A 27-year-old police woman has died following a road accident in

:06:32. > :06:38.Northern Ireland, involving a police car and another vehicle,
