:00:14. > :00:19.Government. Retailers and food suppliers hold talks, as it emerges

:00:19. > :00:22.a criminal conspiracy may be behind the contamination.

:00:54. > :01:00.Good evening. The Government is warning there maybe more bad news

:01:00. > :01:03.to come in the investigation into the contamination of beef products

:01:03. > :01:07.once test results are revealed later this week. The Environment

:01:07. > :01:12.Secretary was speaking after emergency meeting in London, with

:01:12. > :01:15.food retailers and suppliers. Owen Paterson said retailers hold the

:01:15. > :01:19.ultimate responsibility for ensuring there is no horsemeat in

:01:19. > :01:22.their products. Our business core 1307 dent Emma Simpson has the

:01:22. > :01:26.latest. -- correspondent. From the field to

:01:26. > :01:31.the fork, the story of contaminated beef has engulfed a host of big

:01:31. > :01:34.names and with further tests already under way, the fear is that

:01:34. > :01:38.more horsemeat will probably be found. Today retailers were

:01:38. > :01:44.summoned to discuss the scandal. The Environment Secretary told them

:01:45. > :01:49.they should do more to check the integrity of their products.

:01:49. > :01:53.have this extraordinary international network distributing

:01:53. > :01:58.food ingredients around not just Europe, but the world, and I am

:01:58. > :02:03.keen that more of this is tested on its way threw the process and less

:02:03. > :02:09.is taken on trust that the piece of paper is correct. Consumers want

:02:09. > :02:14.good-quality food but when it comes to mass-produced meat products, the

:02:14. > :02:18.supply chain can be incredibly complex. Too complex says the boss

:02:18. > :02:23.of Morrison's, who was at today's meeting We are firmly in the camp

:02:23. > :02:28.that keep it simple. We own our abattoirs and meat processing

:02:28. > :02:32.plants, so we have full traceability. And the UK has moved

:02:32. > :02:37.away, in the search of cheap food. But cheap food is, you know, there

:02:37. > :02:42.are risks involved. Findus is now dealing with the fallout. In France,

:02:42. > :02:46.where the contamination was found, some meals have been withdrawn from

:02:46. > :02:52.supermarket shelves. They've done the same in Sweden, too. But it may

:02:52. > :02:59.not end there. Its supplier, Comigel has many compliepbts across

:02:59. > :03:03.Europe. Findus said -- many clients. Findus said it was taking legal

:03:03. > :03:07.advice after its own suggestions strongly suggested the

:03:07. > :03:12.contamination of beef lasagne was no zeb. He also took out newspaper

:03:12. > :03:17.adverts to try to restore its reputation. Trust across the whole

:03:17. > :03:20.food industry, it seems, has taken a knock. You lose confidence in

:03:21. > :03:27.pre-bought things. You don't know where it is coming from. I always

:03:27. > :03:34.leave the food label. But you can't trust them. No way. I buy Aufhauser

:03:34. > :03:39.the butchers. This is a Europe-wide product coming off the shelves. Who

:03:39. > :03:44.know whereas it is going to end. Prosecutors have been defending the

:03:44. > :03:48.handling of the case of a musician who committed suicide days after

:03:48. > :03:51.giving evidence in court about the sexual abuse she suffered as a

:03:51. > :03:54.teenager. The Crown Prosecution Service said Frances Andrade was

:03:54. > :04:01.assigned a witness care officer, and had said she was willing to

:04:01. > :04:06.give evidence. No-one will be expected to pay more

:04:06. > :04:11.than 75,000 for their personal care in England after 2017,

:04:11. > :04:14.according to the Government's sources. The details are part of

:04:14. > :04:18.reforms of the social care system which will be unveiled on Monday.

:04:18. > :04:22.The figure, which doesn't include the cost of food or accommodation,

:04:22. > :04:24.is much higher than that recommended by a Government-

:04:24. > :04:31.commissioned report on the issue and has been criticised by campaign

:04:31. > :04:35.groups. They say old age doesn't come alone.

:04:35. > :04:38.Increasingly it comes with a high bill attached. One of the most

:04:38. > :04:41.divisive issues at the last election was how to prevent

:04:41. > :04:44.pensioners from having to sell their homes to pay for personal

:04:44. > :04:50.care. On Monday the Government will announce their intention to place a

:04:51. > :04:54.laif-time limit on the costs. -- life-time. They say it'll be set at

:04:54. > :04:57.75,000, although it'll apply only to the cost of care, not the cost

:04:57. > :05:03.of accommodation in a residential home. Currently anyone in England

:05:03. > :05:07.who has assets, including their home, worth 23,250 gets no state

:05:07. > :05:13.help. An independent body set up by the Government, the Dilnot

:05:13. > :05:18.Commission, suggests it rises to 100,000. The Government announces

:05:18. > :05:23.it'll raise this higher on Monday but Dilnot said "No-one should pay

:05:23. > :05:26.more than 35,000 towards the cost of their own care, lower than the

:05:26. > :05:30.Government's cap. On Monday, both Conservative and Lib Dem ministers

:05:30. > :05:34.will set out to prove they can work together when the really big issues

:05:34. > :05:38.by trumpeting that care costs in England will be capped for the

:05:38. > :05:44.first time. But, don't hold your breath. This wouldn't happen until

:05:44. > :05:47.after the next general election, in 2017. Although the cap will be

:05:47. > :05:51.higher than recommended, health ministers say it will allow people

:05:51. > :05:55.to insure against future costs. But some say their whole approach is

:05:55. > :05:58.wrong. This is the wrong priority at the wrong time. The poorest

:05:58. > :06:01.pensioners in the current care system are in crisis and face

:06:01. > :06:06.substandard care, neglect, abuse. We are not investing properly in

:06:06. > :06:09.that system. Before we go to home- owners hoe don't want to lose their

:06:09. > :06:14.savings to pay for care, as important as they are, deal with

:06:14. > :06:17.the most vulnerable people. We'll get the full detail of the

:06:17. > :06:23.proposals until Monday, but campaigners for the elderly are

:06:23. > :06:27.hoping this will be the first step in bringing care costs down.

:06:27. > :06:31.A snow storm which is battering the east coast of the United States has

:06:31. > :06:34.left hundreds of thousands of people without power. A nuclear

:06:34. > :06:40.power station in Massachusetts has been closed and five states have

:06:40. > :06:44.declared a state of emergency. From New York, here's Rajesh Mirchandani.

:06:44. > :06:47.It's quite a job shoveling out after around 18 hours of heavy

:06:47. > :06:53.snowfall. This is the state of Connecticut,

:06:53. > :06:57.which was worst-hit. This has been a record-breaking storm with

:06:57. > :07:01.snowfalls reported as great as 38 inches. Right now our main priority

:07:01. > :07:08.is to clear roads. Much of the north-eastern US, one of the

:07:08. > :07:12.busiest regions in the world, has been forced to partially shutdown.

:07:13. > :07:17.It's been rough. No doubt about it. Thousands of flights were cancelled,

:07:17. > :07:21.stranding many travellers. On Long Island some drivers were forced to

:07:21. > :07:26.sleep in their cars as road conditions worsened and electricity

:07:26. > :07:28.has been knocked out to more than 600,000 homes. Morning in New York

:07:29. > :07:34.City brought better news than expected.

:07:34. > :07:38.The storm here wasn't as bad as they feared. Still, the Governor of

:07:38. > :07:41.New York state today said this area is getting too much experience of

:07:41. > :07:45.disaster management. And in streets like this, they know that only too

:07:45. > :07:50.well. Many of these houses are still clearing up after Hurricane

:07:50. > :07:54.Sandy last October. You have a lot of machines that were taken out.

:07:54. > :08:00.This is all from Sandy? Louis lived without heat and electricity for

:08:00. > :08:05.several days after Sandy. Now he is facing another clean-up. There is

:08:05. > :08:11.no way I could have prevented this or Sandy. So you just deal with it.

:08:11. > :08:18.You Dell with what life throws you. Nothing stops this city for long.

:08:18. > :08:23.For now they are getting all too familiar with punishing storms.

:08:23. > :08:28.Sport and in rugby union's Six Nations four tries powered Scotland

:08:28. > :08:32.to a convincing win over Italy at Murrayfield. Italy started as

:08:32. > :08:38.favourites but were overwhelmed by the hosts, who won 34-10. A late

:08:38. > :08:42.try for Wales, meanwhile, gave them victory over France in Paris.

:08:42. > :08:47.When you are not winning the Six Nations can be an overwhelming

:08:47. > :08:51.experience. Off the back of a defeat to England, Scotland faced a

:08:51. > :08:56.resurgent Italy. Yet they didn't take fright. The Scots recreating

:08:56. > :09:01.what they'd shown glimpses of at Twickenham. This try was a reward

:09:01. > :09:06.for a convincing first-half. It was the warm-up for the second half.

:09:06. > :09:10.Scot scampered free. An Italy team that had beaten France less than a

:09:11. > :09:16.week ago were powerless. Even when it seemed they must score they

:09:16. > :09:20.conceded. Hogg turned defence into attack in one incredible run.

:09:20. > :09:27.COMMENTATOR: He is clear all the way to the line. That's another

:09:27. > :09:30.sensational score from the Scottish fullback. Scot had rediscovered

:09:30. > :09:35.something at Murrayfield and Italy forgotten. Lamont pinched the ball

:09:35. > :09:38.ander in try from under their noses. A late lonely Italian score

:09:38. > :09:41.couldn't reduce the significance of this victory.

:09:42. > :09:46.Wales and France both began the tournament with defeats. That made

:09:46. > :09:50.for a turgid start to their meeting in Paris. The turf gave way but

:09:50. > :09:55.neither defence budged in the first half. The match was dominated by

:09:55. > :09:58.braun and boot. Both sides exchanged penalties with no sign of

:09:58. > :10:04.anything more adventurous until the final ten minutes. North's try a

:10:04. > :10:09.moment of finesse in a game of force. It proved to be Wales'

:10:09. > :10:14.winning move, snatched in the face of stalemate.

:10:14. > :10:17.In the Premier League, big wins for Chelsea and Swansea while Tottenham,

:10:17. > :10:20.Stoke and Arsenal also won their games. Manchester City had the

:10:20. > :10:24.chance to close the gap on Manchester United this evening but

:10:24. > :10:29.conceded twice early on. A short time ago Southampton were leading

:10:29. > :10:33.3-1. And in Scotland Celtic have moved

:10:33. > :10:36.18 points clear at the top of the SPL after beating Inverness
