:00:24. > :00:28.Good afternoon. It's been claimed that MI5 tried to

:00:28. > :00:32.recruit one of the men who is suspected of murdering Drummer Lee

:00:32. > :00:37.Rugby in Woolwich. A friend of Michael Adebolajo, who is under

:00:37. > :00:41.armed guard in hospital, has told the BBC, he was approached by the

:00:41. > :00:45.security services six months ago but refused to work for them.

:00:46. > :00:50.June Kelly has this report. In Woolwich, the people are

:00:50. > :00:56.continuing to reflect on this week's events, which convulsed this

:00:56. > :00:59.community in south-east London. At the barracks where he was based,

:00:59. > :01:04.Drummer Lee Rugby is remembered by those who knew him and many who did

:01:04. > :01:09.not. Three days after the young soldier's savage death, there is

:01:09. > :01:13.still an air of disbelief. The BBC's Newsnight programme broadcast an

:01:13. > :01:20.interview with a man, who says he is a friend of one of the suspects in

:01:20. > :01:24.the case. Claiming six months ago, the security service, MI5, tried to

:01:24. > :01:29.recruit, Michael Adebolajo. He mentioned that they wanted to ask

:01:29. > :01:33.him if he knew certain individuals. That was an issue. After him saying

:01:33. > :01:38.that he did not know the individuals, and so forth, what he

:01:38. > :01:46.said was he was asked if he was interested in working for them. He

:01:46. > :01:49.did he refused. This claim is uncorroborated as is a further

:01:49. > :01:53.allegations that Michael Adebolajo was threatened with sexual abuse

:01:53. > :02:03.when he was arrested after he arrived in Kenya last year.

:02:03. > :02:07.They beat him badly. His comment was, like an oath, saying that buy

:02:07. > :02:15.God, he feels shy to describe what they did to him.

:02:15. > :02:19.In a development shortly after he recorded the interview, that man was

:02:19. > :02:23.arrested on the premises by officers from Scotland Yard. He is held on

:02:23. > :02:28.suspicions of terrorism offences, said not to be linked to the

:02:28. > :02:33.soldier's death. Meanwhile, Michael Adebolajo and the second suspect,

:02:33. > :02:38.shot by 9 police at the scene are under arrest at separate hospitals.

:02:38. > :02:44.They are being treated for their injuries. A third man is arrested on

:02:44. > :02:49.dust din on suspicion of murder. Searches are still ongoing. This is

:02:49. > :02:53.believed to be the home of a suspect suspect, a relative of Michael

:02:53. > :02:59.Adebolajo. The gathering of potential evidence could go on for

:02:59. > :03:05.some time. June joins me now. Should we be surprised that MI5 approached

:03:05. > :03:08.this man, apparently? No, but as I said in the piece, this claim is

:03:08. > :03:12.uncorroborated. The security service, MI5 and the police have

:03:12. > :03:17.thwarted a number of plots. They have only been able to do that with

:03:17. > :03:21.the help from people close to these extremists, people who have access

:03:21. > :03:25.to them, crucially. Obviously, what the security services hope is that

:03:25. > :03:29.if they can get to some of the people in that community, in that

:03:29. > :03:34.constituency, they can speak to them and hope they take another path and

:03:34. > :03:40.then help them with the inquiries. Would this claim, would it become a

:03:40. > :03:45.part of the overall investigation as too the access that the intelligence

:03:45. > :03:49.services had to the men? I'm sure it will. We are hearing that a report

:03:49. > :03:55.into the whole intelligence role will go to Parliament's intelligence

:03:55. > :04:00.and the security Committee next week. The new Director-General is to

:04:00. > :04:04.present that. After 7/7, there was criticism about the length of time

:04:04. > :04:08.it took to get to the bottom of the intelligence role. So clearly this

:04:08. > :04:11.time is that things should be done as quickly as possible.

:04:11. > :04:16.Thu. A Government watchdog has warned

:04:16. > :04:20.that billions of pounds of public money may be at risk due to problems

:04:20. > :04:25.delivering more than 30 of the coalition's flagship policies,

:04:25. > :04:30.including High Speed Two and Universal Credit.

:04:30. > :04:33.The Major Projects Authority was set up in 2010 to shen thur that big

:04:33. > :04:37.public projects are completed on time and on budget.

:04:37. > :04:43.Alan Soady has this report. The changes to the benefit system are

:04:43. > :04:47.the biggest in its history, but some changes with a warning from the

:04:47. > :04:50.Government's own internal spending watchdog. Including Universal

:04:50. > :04:54.Credit, which it is claimed is in danger of costing more money.

:04:54. > :04:59.Ministers insist it is under control, saying that the figures are

:04:59. > :05:03.out of date. A contractor by two new ar kraft carriers has been dogged by

:05:03. > :05:07.delays. This report say there is is no hope of they will being on time

:05:07. > :05:11.or on budget. The report shows that the difficulty

:05:12. > :05:15.in the Government in getting big projects delivered. It is not knew,

:05:15. > :05:19.but the urgency that is felt by the present administration is that they

:05:19. > :05:23.have to get the projects delivered to secure growth. So they really

:05:23. > :05:27.need to deliver the major infrastructure projects as part of

:05:27. > :05:32.the economic revival. The plans to build High Speed Two is

:05:32. > :05:36.another picked for a warning of a high risk of things becoming costly

:05:36. > :05:40.or falling behind. The route linking London, Birmingham, Leeds,

:05:40. > :05:46.Manchester, is expected to cost more than 30 billion. Critics want to

:05:46. > :05:51.scrapped. It is among the 31 projects on the danger list in

:05:51. > :05:57.today's report but ministers insist that it and many other high-sprend

:05:57. > :06:03.projects are firmly on track. An investigation has again after a

:06:03. > :06:08.zoo keeper was killed by a tiger at a wildlife park in Cumbria. Sarah

:06:08. > :06:13.McClay, 24, was mauled in the big cat's enclosure at South Lakes Wild

:06:13. > :06:16.Animal Park. She died later in hospital. The owner of the park

:06:16. > :06:20.described Sarah McClay as a passionate and experienced worker.

:06:20. > :06:25.The police in Pakistan say up to 15 children, some five years old have

:06:25. > :06:34.been killed and ten others injured when a gas cylinder exploded on a

:06:34. > :06:38.school bus. The incident happened outside -- in the east of the
