:00:23. > :00:27.Good afternoon. Welcome to BBC News.

:00:27. > :00:31.Dozens of people have died during overnight clashes in Cairo.

:00:31. > :00:36.Most of the victims appear to have been killed when the army opened

:00:36. > :00:39.fire on protest by supporters of the ousted Egyptian President, Morris

:00:39. > :00:45.Hatalsky. It has been said that more than 100

:00:45. > :00:49.people have been killed and at least 1,000 injured. Jim Muir has more

:00:49. > :00:57.from Cairo. It is what everyone feared, given

:00:57. > :01:04.the sharp rise in tensions on the streets. Skirmishes broke out around

:01:04. > :01:14.the mosque and eastern Cairo, which has become the centre of the protest

:01:14. > :01:17.

:01:17. > :01:21.of supporters of Morris Hatalsky. Supporters tried to push back the --

:01:21. > :01:27.Morsi. Medics said that 70% of those

:01:27. > :01:30.wounded were hit by live fire. Most killed were hit in the head or the

:01:30. > :01:36.chest by snipers, firing from the rooftops.

:01:36. > :01:42.It was a hell. A hell. Within six hours or now, eight hours, we

:01:42. > :01:47.accepted now more than 1 00 people. More than 100 died and more than

:01:47. > :01:54.1,000 people have been injured. Tension and apprehension were raised

:01:54. > :01:58.by the rallies by the anti-morsi demonstrators in the square and

:01:58. > :02:08.other places after the Friday squares. The army commander who

:02:08. > :02:12.

:02:12. > :02:17.stepped in to replace Morsi had called for a show of mass support,

:02:17. > :02:23.but Mors's supporters turned out in numbers to reinforce their claim

:02:23. > :02:27.that there is this support. They vowed to keep up their vigil at the

:02:27. > :02:30.mosque. The tension is not just being felt

:02:31. > :02:37.in the capital but in other parts of the krir as well.

:02:37. > :02:43.People in the north were killed and injured too, as security forces and

:02:43. > :02:49.vigilantes clashed with the Morsi supporters. The violence here will

:02:49. > :02:52.reinforce fears that the crackdown against the Muslim brotherhood and

:02:52. > :02:57.the Morsi supporters maybe in the offing.

:02:57. > :03:04.Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murdering a mother of

:03:04. > :03:08.two in Salford. Linzi Ashton, 25, was found dead at her home in June.

:03:08. > :03:14.Her ex-boyfriend, Michael Cope, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

:03:14. > :03:19.Linzi Ashton was the mother of two young children, 25. She was found

:03:19. > :03:27.dead at her home in Salford on the 29th of June. A postmortem concluded

:03:27. > :03:31.she died from pressure to her neck and multiple injuries. Michael Cope,

:03:31. > :03:37.her former boyfriend has been the subject of a police search for the

:03:37. > :03:40.last four weeks. It was thought he may have been sleeping rough. A

:03:40. > :03:44.fortnight ago, the police released this footage of him shoeping for

:03:44. > :03:50.food. Michael Cope was the subject of an

:03:50. > :03:54.appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme. Last night it is

:03:54. > :03:58.understood that Michael Cope handed himself in officers at an adecrease

:03:58. > :04:02.in Greater Manchester. As tributes were paid to Linz Linz lin, the

:04:02. > :04:08.police thanked the public for their positive response during the

:04:08. > :04:14.four-week hunt for Michael Cope. Two other men have been charged, one

:04:14. > :04:19.with perverting the course of justice, the other for assisting an

:04:19. > :04:26.offender. -- Linzi Ashton. The cost of car insurance is falling

:04:26. > :04:32.according to the A A. Prices are down by 9. 8% on last year. The A A

:04:32. > :04:37.said that the dip was due to clampdowns on fraud and restrictions

:04:37. > :04:41.on claim claimant management restrictions.

:04:41. > :04:47.We think that the trend is to continue for the rest of the year,

:04:47. > :04:53.but I point out that this has followed sharp rises in premiums in

:04:53. > :04:59.recent years. In 2010 premiums rose by 40%. We have a long way to go.

:04:59. > :05:06.The premiums we are paying today are double what they were in 2007.

:05:06. > :05:08.A train driver suspected of causing Spain's deadliest disaster in ten

:05:09. > :05:13.years is refusing to answer questions.

:05:13. > :05:18.The police said that they arrested the 52-year-old on suspicion of

:05:18. > :05:22.reckless driving, following the crash that left 78 people dead. The

:05:22. > :05:28.driver is under guard in hospital and expected to be questioned now by

:05:28. > :05:32.a judge. Now a day of sport and the London

:05:33. > :05:37.Anniversary Games has seen a return to winning form from Usain Bolt. He

:05:37. > :05:41.has run the 100m in his best time of the season.

:05:41. > :05:49.So, what can we expect this afternoon? Well, today is the turn

:05:49. > :05:55.of the two biggest stars in British athletics, MoFarah and Jessica

:05:55. > :06:04.Ennis. It will be like Super Saturday re-visited.

:06:04. > :06:09.It was here that they both the Olympic gold. It is a big day this

:06:09. > :06:14.for Jessica Ennis, she has not competed on the running track since

:06:14. > :06:18.last summer. She has been plagued with injuries. She says that this

:06:18. > :06:23.willing make or break and will make a decision as to whether or not she

:06:23. > :06:30.goes to Moscow to compete in the World Championships in two weeks'

:06:30. > :06:40.time. She is to compete in the 100 metre hurdles and the long jump.

:06:40. > :06:44.As for Mo, he is to go for the 31-long year record, the record that

:06:44. > :06:48.David Moorcroft has held for a long time.

:06:48. > :06:54.And Usain Bolt is running, so lots to look forward to.

:06:54. > :06:59.That is all from me. There is more from the newsroom at 6. 40pm, but do

:06:59. > :07:09.stay with us on BBC One. It is now time for the news where you are,

:07:09. > :07:15.

:07:15. > :07:21.Business in Notting Hill say that they have lost thousands of pounds

:07:21. > :07:27.in trade because of works to repair a hole beneath the road's surface.

:07:27. > :07:32.Thames Water says it is working hard to complete the repairs as quickly

:07:32. > :07:38.as possible, but businesses say that it is move moving customers away.

:07:38. > :07:43.This is a traffic-free zone and has been since April when a hole was

:07:44. > :07:48.discovered that need needed emergency repairs.

:07:48. > :07:52.This man says that the sales here have dropped by 70% since the road

:07:52. > :07:56.was closed off and the bus-stop suspended.

:07:56. > :08:00.It has been terrible with the business. There is no passing by

:08:00. > :08:04.trade. The business is going down. It is becoming difficult for us as

:08:04. > :08:08.the traders. The huge crater under the road was

:08:08. > :08:12.caused when a burst water main leaked into the soil below to reveal

:08:12. > :08:16.a network of unstabling caverns that had to be filled. .

:08:16. > :08:20.We are really sorry to the people and the businesses nearby. We know

:08:20. > :08:28.how important that part of London is, how it can affect the businesses

:08:28. > :08:34.with this type of closure. We have a fair compensation in claims process.

:08:34. > :08:41.We encourage all local businesses to contact us to request a form.

:08:41. > :08:45.There are thousands of road works every day, cost costing trade

:08:45. > :08:51.millions. Businesses I have spoken to here say

:08:51. > :08:55.that they are not comforted by the fact that this could be completed by

:08:55. > :09:00.next week. They have lost out on thousands of pounds that they could

:09:00. > :09:04.have made over the summer. It has had effect on the business

:09:04. > :09:07.and everyone else's welfare. It is impossible to stand here for ten

:09:07. > :09:11.hours with a jack hammer next to you.

:09:11. > :09:14.Local businesses who have suffered worst will be applying for

:09:14. > :09:20.compensation as they prepare for what could be a difficult few months

:09:20. > :09:23.ahead. The police have launched a murder

:09:23. > :09:29.investigation after a man was stabbed in the back in East London

:09:29. > :09:34.last night. The man in his 30s, was attacked in popular after 10.00pm.

:09:34. > :09:37.He was taken to hospital but he died from his injuries. Two men have been

:09:37. > :09:43.arrested. The Olympic Park is reopening this

:09:43. > :09:50.weekend to mark the first anniversary of the 2012 Games, but

:09:51. > :09:55.this afternoon sees the start of a two arts festival. The event is

:09:55. > :10:02.called Open East. There will be a floating cinema, travelling along

:10:02. > :10:04.the canals that link the Olympic areas. The boat will show film

:10:04. > :10:10.screenings and other cultural events.

:10:10. > :10:15.There are many different activities on the waterways, ranging from

:10:15. > :10:21.screenings and live performances, that delve into the heritage of the

:10:21. > :10:24.wareways of East London. Also showing scale outdoor screenings on

:10:24. > :10:29.the bank. Now the weather.

:10:29. > :10:35.Hello, prepare to get wet as we head into the evening. This afternoon

:10:35. > :10:40.there will be showers dotted around. Some of them on the heavy side.

:10:40. > :10:45.Clouding over with temperatures of up to 23 Celsius. We have to wait

:10:45. > :10:48.until the evening for the heavy rain. Met Office have pointed out

:10:48. > :10:54.that there could be surface flooding. Tomorrow, drier and

:10:54. > :10:59.brighter. That's it. More from me, slight

:10:59. > :11:03.slightly later than usual at 6. #50pm. There is more on the website.

:11:03. > :11:06.#50pm. There is more on the website. Goodbye.

:11:06. > :11:10.For most, a fine start to the weekend, but for many that will not

:11:10. > :11:14.last. Rain is on the way. Wet weather is around in places, but

:11:14. > :11:19.that rain is taking a time to arrive. A fairly complex weather set

:11:19. > :11:23.up. The satellite picture showing this clump of cloud. There is active

:11:23. > :11:26.thunder storms that pass close to the south-east corner. Then, notice

:11:26. > :11:33.the cloud brewing over France. That is pushing to the north through the

:11:33. > :11:38.rest of the afternoon. That will bring in heavy showers to central

:11:38. > :11:43.southern England. Some sunshine to be had as well. Northern Ireland not

:11:43. > :11:48.doing so badly. A few showers. Showers in Scotland. They could be

:11:48. > :11:54.heavy and with thunder. In the showers in the north of England,

:11:54. > :11:59.where there is sunshine, it is feeling warm at up to 26 Celsius.

:11:59. > :12:03.Cooler in Wales and the south-west, but coming east, this is where we

:12:03. > :12:08.have the risk for the downpours developing with the odd rumble of

:12:08. > :12:11.thunder. Spells of dry weather continuing at the Olympic Park for

:12:11. > :12:17.the London Anniversary Games. Showers developing here through the

:12:17. > :12:22.later part of the afternoon. A similar story for the horse racing

:12:22. > :12:27.at Ascot. It is dry at the moment but with the risk of showers.

:12:27. > :12:31.Through the evening, the showers in the south is likely to join together

:12:31. > :12:37.to give longer spells of rain. Rain in the south Midlands. That working

:12:37. > :12:42.to the north. Some seeing up to 50 millimetres of rain. That could

:12:42. > :12:45.cause localised flooding. Rain in the east as well. The odd rumble of

:12:45. > :12:50.thunder. The weather tracking through into southern and eastern

:12:50. > :12:55.Scotland. Behind it, drier conditions following in, not a cold

:12:55. > :13:02.night, up to 16 Celsius. Aing soy start tomorrow morning. The

:13:02. > :13:08.rain trundling to the north. Then skies with sunshine to follow. A

:13:08. > :13:12.breezy day but in the best of the sunshine still up to 25 Celsius. Now

:13:12. > :13:18.the unsettled look to the weather is continuing into Monday and Tuesday.
