:00:26. > :00:31.One of Scotland's most senior Catholics, the Bishop of Aberdeen,

:00:31. > :00:34.has apologised amid claims of sexual and physical abuse by monks at a

:00:34. > :00:38.former boarding school in the Highlands. A BBC investigation,

:00:38. > :00:42.broadcast on Monday, uncovered evidence of physical violence and

:00:42. > :00:47.sexual assault by monks at the Fort Augustus Abbey School and its feeder

:00:47. > :00:53.school. Both schools have since closed. The cases of abuse are now

:00:53. > :00:57.being investigated by the police. This report from James Shaw.

:00:57. > :01:03.Fort Augustus Abbey School in the Highlands, until the early '90s,

:01:03. > :01:08.when it closed, a prestigious Catholic boarding school, run by

:01:08. > :01:11.Benedictine monks. But for allegations dating back to the 1950s

:01:11. > :01:15.of physical and sexual abuse by monks, finally brought to light last

:01:15. > :01:20.week by a BBC Scotland investigation. Five many say they

:01:20. > :01:28.were raped or sexually abused by one priest. In total, more than 20

:01:28. > :01:34.former pupils have made allegations against at least ten monks. .

:01:34. > :01:40.he abused me, I closed the curtains so no-one would see. I used to cry

:01:40. > :01:45.at night. Now Bishop hue Gilbert has told a Scottish newspaper he wants

:01:45. > :01:51.to apologise for what happened -- Hugh bill Gilbert. He said "I share

:01:51. > :01:58.the horror and shame. I'm afraid people do horrible things, these

:01:58. > :02:03.things do happen it is a horrible tale of broken trust and integrity."

:02:03. > :02:06.He said it was appropriate to say sorry for hurt. For the victims it

:02:06. > :02:09.may be the start of a process of healing after years of not being

:02:09. > :02:17.believed. Some of their allegations are already being investigated by

:02:17. > :02:23.the police. This scandal comes after the resignation of the leader of the

:02:23. > :02:26.Church in Scotland following allegations of inappropriate sexual

:02:26. > :02:32.behaviour towards priests. During mass today, Bishop Gilbert said

:02:32. > :02:36.there was a fundamental need for spiritual renewal in the Church.

:02:36. > :02:40.A consultation will begin tomorrow, into controversial plans to

:02:40. > :02:45.introduce a childcare voucher system. Under the scheme, families

:02:45. > :02:51.with two working parents, earning less than 150,000 each, will be

:02:51. > :02:55.able to claim back to up 1,200 a year per child. Government says

:02:55. > :03:01.it'll benefit 2. 5 million working families but critics say it'll

:03:01. > :03:07.penalise stay at home parents. In Iran, the public inauguration of

:03:07. > :03:11.cleric roou roou roou is under way. -- -- Cleric Hassan Rouhani. He won

:03:11. > :03:16.the poll in June promising to put an end to the country's international

:03:16. > :03:20.isolation and to run the economy. He replaces Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. More

:03:20. > :03:24.than 20,000 cyclists in one of the biggest events of its kind in the

:03:24. > :03:28.world are taking place in a 100 mile race in and around the capital.

:03:28. > :03:33.London Mayor, Boris Johnson, was one of the participants who set off

:03:34. > :03:38.early this morning from the Olympic Park in Stratford. The cyclists will

:03:38. > :03:44.go through Surrey, in a route similar to last year's Olympic

:03:44. > :03:49.event. It was a nail biting start to the Ashes this morning as England's

:03:49. > :03:58.bats men managed to avoid the follow-on at Old Trafford against

:03:58. > :04:03.Australia. Joe Wilson is with us. Win a Test Match, you need time. We

:04:03. > :04:06.can feel drizzle at the moment. England avoided the follow-on, so

:04:06. > :04:09.Australia have had to come out and bat in their second innings. At the

:04:09. > :04:13.moment they are 200 runs ahead. Now here is the balance for their

:04:14. > :04:17.Captain. He has to get to a point where he feels comfortable and

:04:17. > :04:21.declare and put England into bat again and try to bowl them out to

:04:21. > :04:25.win the match. But is there time? We know rain is scheduled today and

:04:25. > :04:29.certainly tomorrow. Of you ares could, if it is a damp draw -- of

:04:29. > :04:34.course, if it is a damp draw, then England will retain the Ashes.

:04:34. > :04:37.Now the wait is almost over for Doctor Who fans as the any Time Lord

:04:37. > :04:43.will be revealed tonight in a special programme live in about five

:04:43. > :04:48.hours' time. 11 actors have played the doctor over the past 50 years

:04:48. > :04:52.and speculation continues as to who will take over the next role. Six

:04:52. > :04:57.2010 the Doctor has been played by Matt Smith, who announced in June,

:04:57. > :05:01.he would be bowing out in this year's Christmas special. That's at

:05:01. > :05:04.7.00pm. That's all for the moment. The next news on BBC One is at

:05:24. > :05:27.in the next 24 to 48 hours. There will be a lot of rain across the

:05:27. > :05:31.south-west of the country and also some sunny spells and showers across

:05:32. > :05:38.the far north of the UK. You can see whether France pushing in from the

:05:38. > :05:42.south-west, which has been bringing very wet weather to the south. To

:05:42. > :05:47.the south-east, it is largely dry and fine. There will be sunshine,

:05:47. > :05:52.temperatures into the mid-20s. It will be continuing to be wet in the

:05:52. > :05:55.South West, particularly Devon and Cornwall. For Northern England, it

:05:56. > :06:00.will happen as well. Scotland has not been bad, the wind has been

:06:00. > :06:03.lighter, which has been good news for the women's golf. Some showers

:06:04. > :06:08.around and temperatures close to 20 Celsius. Into this evening and

:06:08. > :06:11.overnight we see the next pulse of heavy rain spreading up from the

:06:11. > :06:14.south-west, already affecting areas which have seen a lot of rain,

:06:14. > :06:19.moving north into the Midlands, becoming widespread across much of

:06:19. > :06:26.England and Wales. Western Scotland and Northern Ireland should remain

:06:26. > :06:30.dry. It will be mild and muddy tonight. Monday morning, you can see

:06:30. > :06:35.the tangle of weather fronts across a good portion of England and Wales,

:06:35. > :06:39.bringing further rain. A rather wet start. Some of that rain will come

:06:39. > :06:43.into the south-east, which might start drying. For western Scotland

:06:43. > :06:49.and Northern Ireland, are largely dry day, eventually turning dry air

:06:49. > :06:56.across the extreme west of Wales. The rain is transferring eastwards.

:06:56. > :07:00.Relatively warm in the South East. For Monday evening, as the rain

:07:00. > :07:04.pushes East, we will see some brightness coming towards Wales and

:07:04. > :07:09.western England. For the rest of this week, it is not looking too

:07:09. > :07:13.bad. We will see a fair amount of sunshine throughout the week. Some

:07:13. > :07:17.showers could be heavy and thundery and it will feel quite warm across

:07:17. > :07:22.central and eastern areas. There is a troublesome low-pressure area,

:07:22. > :07:27.which will bring some rain. There is high pressure coming from the

:07:27. > :07:31.south-west. Tuesday will be fine and dry. Variable amounts of cloud, some

:07:31. > :07:34.sunny spells and showers across western Scotland, Northern Ireland,

:07:34. > :07:39.perhaps getting into north-west England. Then we see this area of

:07:39. > :07:42.low pressure across the continent pushing up towards the course of

:07:42. > :07:48.Wednesday. It threatens to bring some thundery rain towards the

:07:48. > :07:52.south-east, but another largely fine day with spells of sunshine. Some

:07:52. > :07:56.showers across the northern half of the UK, they could be slow-moving

:07:56. > :08:01.and heavy. Temperatures of around 21 degrees. On Wednesday, that thundery

:08:01. > :08:05.low-pressure pushes north into Scandinavia, and we will be trapped

:08:05. > :08:09.between two areas of low pressure. It will be a fine day with light

:08:09. > :08:14.wind. Sunshine across the country. There will be a risk of some showers

:08:14. > :08:20.in northern and western areas. These could be heavy and thundery.

:08:20. > :08:24.Temperatures will be close to the low to mid 20s. On Thursday, low

:08:24. > :08:28.pressure will be throwing a weather front our way. It will spread from
