:00:20. > :00:23.Good afternoon. At least three people are understood
:00:24. > :00:26.to have died and dozens more have been injured after a police
:00:27. > :00:32.helicopter crashed into the roof of a pub in Glasgow last night. Around
:00:33. > :00:35.120 people were in the pub at the time, with three people in the
:00:36. > :00:39.aircraft. Firefighters are looking for anyone still trapped in the
:00:40. > :00:52.building. Our Scotland correspondent James Cook is at the scene.
:00:53. > :00:56.Yes, it has been an extraordinary night in Glasgow. A very difficult
:00:57. > :01:03.night for the people of this city, not least the relatives and friends
:01:04. > :01:07.of people who were inside that pub that night when the helicopter came
:01:08. > :01:12.down. More than 12 hours after what happened, the full extent of the
:01:13. > :01:16.disaster is not clear. The pub was packed, the band was
:01:17. > :01:21.playing, just another Friday night in the Clutha Vaults. The music was
:01:22. > :01:26.so loud that no one inside heard the helicopter come down until it was
:01:27. > :01:31.too late. Suddenly heard a very loud anger. The ceiling had fallen onto
:01:32. > :01:38.the bar, or the central bit of the pub. -- suddenly heard a very loud
:01:39. > :01:44.bang. That is when I thought wings were serious, but if I might ignite,
:01:45. > :01:50.so I ran outside. dozens, then hundreds, of police, firefighters
:01:51. > :01:55.and paramedics came to the scene. But before they arrived, the people
:01:56. > :02:01.of Glasgow risked their lives to help. They had no training but did
:02:02. > :02:08.not hesitate. People formed a little bit of a human chain, side-by-side
:02:09. > :02:16.with each other, to help pull injured people out. There is blood
:02:17. > :02:22.on your shirt. It is not mine. As night wore on, some hope.
:02:23. > :02:25.Firefighters said they had made contact with some trapped survivors.
:02:26. > :02:31.It is five hours since the helicopter crashed and difficult,
:02:32. > :02:34.detailed and rescue operation is taking place. Specialist teams have
:02:35. > :02:40.been drafted in from all over Scotland as they try to bring people
:02:41. > :02:45.out of this pub alive. That for one man, watching and waiting all night
:02:46. > :02:50.for news of his father, no comfort. I know my dad was in there. Me and
:02:51. > :02:58.my family have checked everywhere, we know he was in there. That
:02:59. > :03:04.helicopter has hit it right at the bit where he sits. By dawn, the
:03:05. > :03:08.sense of urgency seem to have left. It no longer looked like a rescue
:03:09. > :03:14.operation as police confirmed that it least one people had died. -- at
:03:15. > :03:19.least one person. It will take some time to complete
:03:20. > :03:25.the surge of the building and assess how we begin the investigation. Is
:03:26. > :03:29.anyone still alive within the pub? We can't say definitively, but you
:03:30. > :03:36.have heard everyone stressed that it is still a rescue operation.
:03:37. > :03:43.Scotland's First Minister seems to catch the nation's mood. This is a
:03:44. > :03:49.black day for Glasgow and Scotland, but it is also St Andrew's Day, a
:03:50. > :04:04.day we can take pride and courage in we respond to adversity and tragedy.
:04:05. > :04:10.The BBC understands at least three people have definitely been killed.
:04:11. > :04:14.Police say they are only confirming the deaths one by one as they are
:04:15. > :04:17.bringing the bodies out. They have issued a helpline number is for
:04:18. > :04:22.anybody can serve and about relatives or friends who might have
:04:23. > :04:29.been in the pub, the number is 0800 092 0410.
:04:30. > :04:31.Well I'm joined now by our transport correspondent Richard Westcott. So
:04:32. > :04:39.what will investigators be looking at? It is very early days, we need
:04:40. > :04:42.to be wary about speculating. I think there will be an early focus
:04:43. > :05:11.on the engines, you don't have much time, it is a
:05:12. > :05:14.busy and built-up area. Very speculative. Interestingly, I don't
:05:15. > :05:19.believe there is a black box in this kind of helicopter, we can't use
:05:20. > :05:24.flight data recorders, but investigators can look at the data
:05:25. > :05:30.and find out what has happened. We should find out fairly soon, or at
:05:31. > :05:33.least get some indication, about what has happened. Thank you.
:05:34. > :05:36.Detectives say they've identified a man whose body was discovered in a
:05:37. > :05:39.well in a Surrey village earlier this month. They have named him as
:05:40. > :05:45.Damian Chlywka, a 32-year-old Polish national who came to the UK five
:05:46. > :05:50.years ago. His remains were found in Warlingham earlier this month. A
:05:51. > :05:57.murder inquiry was launched and nine people have been questioned.
:05:58. > :06:01.The senior Conservative MP Tim Yeo has been dropped by his local party
:06:02. > :06:06.as their candidate for the next general election. Mr Yeo has been
:06:07. > :06:08.the MP for South Suffolk since 1983. He was recently cleared by the
:06:09. > :06:14.Parliamentary standards commissioner over accusations he had broken
:06:15. > :06:16.lobbying rules. -- the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner.
:06:17. > :06:19.A controversial badger culling operation in Gloucestershire came to
:06:20. > :06:24.an end at midday today, three weeks earlier than scheduled. The plan was
:06:25. > :06:29.to kill 70% of the badger population in the area to halt the spread of
:06:30. > :06:42.tuberculosis in cattle. But marksmen have managed to kill only half that
:06:43. > :06:48.number. That is the news this afternoon. The
:06:49. > :06:53.next news on BBC One and -- is at 6p. There will be continuing
:06:54. > :06:57.coverage of the Glasgow helicopter crash on the BBC News Channel,
:06:58. > :06:59.particularly search about whether people are still
