:00:00. > :00:10.At least eight people have been confirmed dead after a helicopter

:00:11. > :00:20.crashes in Glasgow. It came down on the roof of a crowded pub. Dozens

:00:21. > :00:24.more have been injured. There was a loud bang, and a couple of seconds

:00:25. > :00:30.later, the left-hand side of the pub just collapsed in -- collapsed in on

:00:31. > :00:32.itself. A huge rescue operation is still under way, as investigators

:00:33. > :00:46.try to piece together what went wrong.

:00:47. > :00:51.Good evening. At least eight people have died and 14 are seriously

:00:52. > :00:56.injured after a helicopter crashed through the roof of a crowded pub in

:00:57. > :00:59.Glasgow. The police helicopter came down late last night, killing all

:01:00. > :01:08.three people on board and another five who were in the Clutha Vaults

:01:09. > :01:13.pub in the city centre. Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, has

:01:14. > :01:17.called it a black day for Glasgow and Scotland. The Queen has said her

:01:18. > :01:22.thoughts and prayers are with the people of the city. Our

:01:23. > :01:26.correspondent is there now. This has been a long, difficult day for

:01:27. > :01:31.Glasgow. Difficult beyond measure for the relatives of those who died,

:01:32. > :01:36.of course, but also difficult for the police in the city, responding

:01:37. > :01:41.to an emergency involving their own colleagues and friends. This report

:01:42. > :01:44.contains flash photography. In the first few seconds, no one knew what

:01:45. > :01:49.had happened. The pub was packed, the music loud,

:01:50. > :01:53.and no one heard the helicopter coming down. Even as they stumbled

:01:54. > :01:59.onto the street, it was hard to make sense of the scene. Suddenly I heard

:02:00. > :02:05.this very loud bang. The ceiling had fallen onto the bar in the central

:02:06. > :02:10.bit of the pub. That's when we realised things were serious, and

:02:11. > :02:15.there might be a second explosion or something might ignite, so I decided

:02:16. > :02:21.to run outside. Now, how are you feeling? I consider myself a very,

:02:22. > :02:24.very lucky to have been where I was, and I feel sorry for the unlucky

:02:25. > :02:31.ones who were caught under the rubble. Within minutes, dozens, then

:02:32. > :02:38.hundreds, of firefighters, police and paramedics were on their way.

:02:39. > :02:43.But before they arrived, it was the people of Glasgow who risked their

:02:44. > :02:49.lives to help. They had no training, but they didn't hesitate. Are you

:02:50. > :02:54.OK? It's a bit of a blur, but people just formed a human chain

:02:55. > :03:04.side-by-side, to try and help pull injured people out. There's blood on

:03:05. > :03:09.your shirt. Yes. It's not mine. As the night wore on, there was some

:03:10. > :03:15.hope. Firefighters said they had made contact with survivors trapped

:03:16. > :03:19.in the pub. It is now five hours since the helicopter crashed, and a

:03:20. > :03:23.difficult, detailed and delicate rescue operation is taking place

:03:24. > :03:27.here. Specialist teams have been drafted in from all over Scotland as

:03:28. > :03:32.they try to bring people out of this pub alive. But for one man, watching

:03:33. > :03:35.and waiting all night for news of his father, there was no comfort. I

:03:36. > :03:37.know my dad was
