:01:11. > :01:15.Good evening. Communities across the UK left battered after storms and

:01:16. > :01:20.high tides are being warned to expect more bad weather in the

:01:21. > :01:23.coming days. Hundreds of homes have been flooded, with warnings that

:01:24. > :01:27.water levels on many rivers will continue to rise. In Devon,

:01:28. > :01:31.coastguards spent the day searching for a teenager who disappeared after

:01:32. > :01:35.going to take photos of the storm. At Aberystwyth in Wales, huge waves

:01:36. > :01:38.brought rocks and debris onto the seafront and nearby streets. On the

:01:39. > :01:41.Somerset Levels, emergency pumps were brought in to try to protect

:01:42. > :01:48.properties and farmland. From there, Jon Kay sent this report.

:01:49. > :01:54.For two days, in terrible conditions, life road crews have

:01:55. > :01:58.been searching. -- lifeboat crews are looking for 18-year-old Harry

:01:59. > :02:03.Martin, who went missing in the tidal surge. The photography student

:02:04. > :02:07.was last seen taking pictures of the storm on a coastal path near

:02:08. > :02:12.Plymouth. Today, rescue teams were joined by some of his friends.

:02:13. > :02:20.Hopefully, we will find some good news. Our prayers go out to his

:02:21. > :02:25.family. He is a village lad and this is when communities come together to

:02:26. > :02:29.help each other. Britain's coastal clear up is going to take some time.

:02:30. > :02:35.This was Aberystwyth, pounded again this morning. Tyrone Davis can't

:02:36. > :02:39.believe what it has done to his beach-front gym. There are now

:02:40. > :02:44.stones and seaweed among the running machines. It has ruined everything.

:02:45. > :02:51.This is the second time it has happened in three months. The power

:02:52. > :02:55.of the sea is so strong. Despite repeated warnings, there have been

:02:56. > :03:00.more stories today about people getting too close to the sea. In

:03:01. > :03:04.Aberystwyth, life would teams rescued a man who had gone on to a

:03:05. > :03:08.jetty to take photos . In Cornwall, police pulled a man from the tide

:03:09. > :03:15.after he was seen swimming in Newquay. He was taken to hospital.

:03:16. > :03:18.This is not the sea, but it is starting to look like it. Miles

:03:19. > :03:24.inland, the Somerset Levels are filling with water. This afternoon,

:03:25. > :03:30.extra pumping equipment arrived. Once this kit is in place, it should

:03:31. > :03:35.take about a tonne of water off the more every second and pump it into

:03:36. > :03:42.the river. But local people just wish it had happened sooner. On

:03:43. > :03:46.their farm nearby, the Sadler family fear that the pumps have got here

:03:47. > :03:51.too late. They are taking precautions now, and are expecting

:03:52. > :03:54.to be flooded. It is coming in about one metre on our. This morning,

:03:55. > :04:01.there were still a bit of green out there. It is now tracking closer to

:04:02. > :05:08.the house and the village. Everybody panics, because you

:05:09. > :05:12.the house and the village. Everybody The family of a British man found

:05:13. > :05:16.shot dead in Libya have said they are devastated by the news of his

:05:17. > :05:19.murder. Mark De Salis had been working for a power company in the

:05:20. > :05:23.capital, Tripoli, for the past six years. The bodies of Mr De Salis and

:05:24. > :05:28.a female friend from New Zealand were discovered near the town of

:05:29. > :05:31.Zuwarah, 60 miles west of Tripoli. The Libyan authorities say four

:05:32. > :05:37.people have been arrested this evening.

:05:38. > :05:41.It was on this beach in western Libya, it seems, where the bodies of

:05:42. > :05:44.Mark De Salis and a New Zealand woman friend were discovered.

:05:45. > :05:47.According to his family, he had been working in the Libyan capital will

:05:48. > :06:04.Tripoli for six years for an engineering company.

:06:05. > :06:09.Since the bitter conflict which toppled the former leader, more on

:06:10. > :06:12.our Gaddafi, Libya has descended into increasing instability as rival

:06:13. > :06:16.militias and other groups have struggled for influence. There has

:06:17. > :06:20.been particular concern about a growing Islamist threat in the east

:06:21. > :06:24.of the country, but these two were killed in the West. We have seen

:06:25. > :06:27.intensifying violence in more and more of Libya beyond those

:06:28. > :06:32.traditional hotspots. In the west of the country, that is somewhere where

:06:33. > :06:35.there will be renewed concern, particularly those areas near Oil

:06:36. > :06:40.Gas UK is that maybe attractive targets for militants. There is an

:06:41. > :06:44.oil and complex close to where the victims were discovered. Were they

:06:45. > :06:50.visiting that, or perhaps a nearby world Heritage site's it is unclear

:06:51. > :06:54.why they were in the area, but they were attacked in the middle of a

:06:55. > :06:57.beach picnic. Why were they killed? Report so far suggest that this was

:06:58. > :07:02.not a robbery. The Foreign Office has said it is liaising with the

:07:03. > :07:06.Libyan authorities over what it is describing is a tragic incident. It

:07:07. > :07:10.has also called on the Libyan government to carry out a thorough

:07:11. > :07:14.investigation. But with militias holding sway in much of the country,

:07:15. > :07:17.the government is struggling to assert itself. There is a report of

:07:18. > :07:21.arrests in connection with this killing, but getting to the bottom

:07:22. > :07:26.of this tragedy is likely to be difficult.

:07:27. > :07:29.David Cameron is promise in to protect the basic state pension if

:07:30. > :07:32.the Conservatives win an outright majority at the next election. The

:07:33. > :07:36.prime minister said the so-called triple lock would be maintained,

:07:37. > :07:43.which means the pensions would rise each year in line with wages, prices

:07:44. > :07:47.or zero point 25%, whichever is highest. Our political correspondent

:07:48. > :07:53.is here. Is this significant? It is a sick dividend move . Around 11

:07:54. > :07:57.million people will have the rise in their pensions guaranteed if there

:07:58. > :08:02.is a future Conservative government. This triple lock was introduced by

:08:03. > :08:08.the coalition. As you say, it means that pensions must rise either in

:08:09. > :08:14.line with wages, it in inflation or 2.5%, whichever is greatest. Since

:08:15. > :08:18.2010, many pensioners have seen their pensions rise by ?15 overall.

:08:19. > :08:22.David Cameron is the first of the party leaders to make the pledge to

:08:23. > :08:28.continue it through the next Parliament. He says this is the

:08:29. > :08:31.first plank of the Conservative hi general election manifesto. This

:08:32. > :08:35.puts pressure on Labour and the Liberal Democrats to see whether

:08:36. > :08:39.they will match that commitment. It is bound to be welcomed by many

:08:40. > :08:45.pensionerss' poops, but some will question whether it is the right

:08:46. > :08:48.prior to -- it would be welcomed by many pensioners' groups. We know

:08:49. > :08:52.some pensioners are wealthy, while younger workers are struggling. They

:08:53. > :09:03.are being told they have to wait many years before they get a pension

:09:04. > :09:06.at all. And the prime minister will be among

:09:07. > :09:09.Andrew Marr's guests tomorrow morning on BBC One at nine o'clock.

:09:10. > :09:12.Friends and colleagues of Phil Everly, one half of the Everly

:09:13. > :09:16.Brothers, have paid tribute to the singer, who has died in California.

:09:17. > :09:20.He was 74. With his brother Don, he rose to fame in the 1950s with hits

:09:21. > :09:23.like Wake Up Little Susie and Bye Bye Love. Together, they influenced

:09:24. > :09:27.a generation of pop musicians, including the Beatles. David Sillito

:09:28. > :09:36.looks back at his life and his music.

:09:37. > :09:40.Phil, on the left, was just six when he first performed with his brother

:09:41. > :09:47.Don. Harmony was the family business. This is dad Everly,

:09:48. > :09:57.talking for the Everly family. Phil, what are you going to sing? We would

:09:58. > :10:00.like to do a number for the folks. There is nothing sweeter than

:10:01. > :10:03.brothers singing together or a family singing together. I don't

:10:04. > :10:11.think two people that are not related can sound the same.

:10:12. > :10:16.Their roots lay in the country music of their native Kentucky. Bye-Bye

:10:17. > :10:29.Love in 1957 was the first of more than 30 hit singles. Their sound,

:10:30. > :10:33.clean cut, sweet, sad innocence. Watching, listening and taking notes

:10:34. > :10:42.were Lennon and McCartney, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beach boys, Crosby,

:10:43. > :10:50.Stills and Nash. The sound of Don and Phil echoes through pop history.

:10:51. > :10:55.But the harmony came to an end in 1973, midway through a concert. Don

:10:56. > :11:03.was drunk, Phil smashed his guitar. Solo careers beckoned. Ten years

:11:04. > :11:04.later, they reunited. Tensions were outweighed by what they could only

:11:05. > :11:13.do together. do together.

:11:14. > :11:26.# Dream, dream, dream. 50 years of heartache, happiness and harmony.

:11:27. > :11:32.Phil Everly, who has died at the age of 74.

:11:33. > :11:36.Now the sport. Day three of the final Ashes test

:11:37. > :11:42.will resume in just over an hour's time, with England struggling once

:11:43. > :11:45.again. They are trailing by over 300 runs as Australia go for the series

:11:46. > :11:50.whitewash. Our sports correspondent is in Sydney. Is this just a case of

:11:51. > :12:01.if and not when England lose this match? Yes, barring a miracle, it is

:12:02. > :12:05.now almost certain that England will suffer the shame and humiliation of

:12:06. > :12:10.a 5-0 Ashes Deary 's whitewash. It could happen today or tomorrow, but

:12:11. > :12:13.one thing is that in - after the most traumatic innings of the tour,

:12:14. > :12:17.the spirit of England's that's meant appears to be well and truly

:12:18. > :12:20.broken. Here in Sydney today, England knew

:12:21. > :12:24.everything depended on the art of batsmanship, but the skill required

:12:25. > :12:28.to build an innings had eluded them all series, and what's again, in the

:12:29. > :12:32.battle between English bat and Australian ball, there was only one

:12:33. > :12:35.winner. The tourists had hoped for a first innings lead. Instead, from

:12:36. > :12:38.the moment Alastair Cook left his judgement in the dressing room,

:12:39. > :12:42.there were in disarray. This was cricketing carnage, none of the top

:12:43. > :12:46.five reaching double figures as Australia's three to six was put

:12:47. > :12:53.into context. Ian Bell's is missal left his team on a pitiful 23 45. On

:12:54. > :12:57.a tour of almost an presented pain, England had hit rock bottom. This

:12:58. > :13:00.was no time for your first test innings, Gary Ballance introduced to

:13:01. > :13:04.the joys of facing Mitchell Johnson. But it was now down to the

:13:05. > :13:08.youngsters, and once again, Ben Stokes provided some fight with a

:13:09. > :13:13.defiant 47. But that merely denied the inevitable, and when the

:13:14. > :13:20.all-rounder was out, England were 11248. It was a small mercy. But

:13:21. > :13:25.when Boyd Rankin was bowled by the merciless Johnson, England were all

:13:26. > :13:28.out for 155. Their bowlers did at least capture four Australian second

:13:29. > :13:32.innings wickets, but with Chris Rogers extending the lead beyond

:13:33. > :13:40.300, it felt futile, the hosts already seemed way too far ahead.

:13:41. > :13:45.Play resumes here in Sydney in just over an hour . England came into

:13:46. > :13:49.this series as favourites, remember. Rarely has bought witnessed such a

:13:50. > :13:52.reversal in fortunes. Their only consolation - it will all soon be

:13:53. > :13:56.over. It is FA Cup third-round weekend,

:13:57. > :13:59.and as always, there have been a few shocks and surprises.

:14:00. > :14:01.Aston Villa went out to League One's Sheffield United and Blackburn, of

:14:02. > :14:05.the championship, forced a replay with Manchester City. But the day's

:14:06. > :14:15.biggest tie was in north London, where Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0.

:14:16. > :14:20.A time more suited to the latter stages of the competition, but with

:14:21. > :14:23.64 teams in the hat, the draw through these north London rivals

:14:24. > :14:28.together. New Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood has picked up packing

:14:29. > :14:32.sides since taking over. He did the same for his first derby match, and

:14:33. > :14:38.it almost paid off. But it was Arsenal who made the breakthrough,

:14:39. > :14:43.Santi Cazorla blasting his way to a first FA Cup goal. Spurs looked to

:14:44. > :14:51.get back into it in the second half, but Danny Rose's mistake saw a burst

:14:52. > :14:55.through to finish at 2-0 on a great day for the gunners. The only

:14:56. > :15:01.negative was an injury to Theo Walcott, but even he seemed to be

:15:02. > :15:04.having fun, reminding Spurs fans of the all-important scoreline. So

:15:05. > :15:08.while the Premier League leaders are through, the league's second side

:15:09. > :15:15.Manchester City face a replay after draw with Blackburn Rovers. When

:15:16. > :15:19.City scored just before half-time, many expected them to run away with

:15:20. > :15:26.it, but Blackburn were not overawed and equalised in similar fashion.

:15:27. > :15:29.They capitalised on a goalkeeping error to earn a replay at the

:15:30. > :15:35.Etihad. And in the Scottish ship, Ross

:15:36. > :15:43.County beat St Johnstone 1-0. The menus: Forecasters are warning

:15:44. > :15:58.that yet more storms are on the way. That is all from me. Good night.

:15:59. > :16:00.As Nick said, more wet and windy weather on the
