:00:22. > :00:29.Hello, good evening. 18 mile in our winds and heavy rain have again hit
:00:30. > :00:33.the coast of the south-west of England and West Wales, with
:00:34. > :00:37.floodwaters rising once more on the Somerset Levels. Tonight, all real
:00:38. > :00:41.services to want from the West Country are cut off. The train lines
:00:42. > :00:46.had already been suffering severe disruption. Today, a landslip on
:00:47. > :00:52.track at Crewkerne and nearby flooding closed them completely.
:00:53. > :00:56.Chris Buckler is in Somerset for us. The railway lines are the latest
:00:57. > :00:59.victims of the weather and they will cause huge problems, their closure,
:01:00. > :01:04.for people here in the West Country, who have already been
:01:05. > :01:08.facing huge difficulties and the misery is here in Somerset Levels
:01:09. > :01:12.and in particular you will see that the sandbags and large sandbags are
:01:13. > :01:15.lined up at the edge of this river. Although it is dark I can tell you
:01:16. > :01:20.that the water is extremely high. It has been topping over again this
:01:21. > :01:24.afternoon and that has caused a great deal of concern. But the
:01:25. > :01:31.weather and the storms have caused problems right across the country,
:01:32. > :01:34.including on the south coast. Along Britain's coastline the
:01:35. > :01:39.weather has been making its presence felt. Towns and villages across the
:01:40. > :01:44.South and West have been on the front line for the force of this
:01:45. > :01:48.latest storm. The crashing waves are indiscriminate in their assault and
:01:49. > :01:51.in places like Kingsand in Cornwall, buildings are already
:01:52. > :01:56.battered and people worried after days of disruption. You can stop the
:01:57. > :02:00.weather. This is relentless and we have more of it to come. You have to
:02:01. > :02:07.batten down the hatches and be resilient. Inland the storms are
:02:08. > :02:09.having a major impact. Landslips and flooding have blocked rail lines
:02:10. > :02:16.between London and the West Country. The track is barely visible
:02:17. > :02:23.above the water. I came to catch a train about 4:25pm, no trains, no
:02:24. > :02:26.ticket office, no replacement bus services. Phone calls just say they
:02:27. > :02:33.don't know when they are going to have replacement bus service. We are
:02:34. > :02:36.completely stuck. It is not just the railways. On the Somerset Levels
:02:37. > :02:40.roads are closed and pathways have been swamped by overflowing rivers
:02:41. > :02:46.and rain. People have no choice but to wade through water, to rescue
:02:47. > :02:50.animals from the cut-off village of more than it today. This is not the
:02:51. > :02:53.first time fields here have flooded, threatening livelihoods and
:02:54. > :02:57.the farmers' leader says six months ago he wrote to the Prime Minister
:02:58. > :03:02.to ask for funding to prevent flooding, but his request was
:03:03. > :03:05.refused. We have ministers coming down, environmental chairman coming
:03:06. > :03:11.down saying we must learn the lessons. The lesson was there 18
:03:12. > :03:16.months ago. Everyone in Somerset new that the rivers would not be fit for
:03:17. > :03:21.purpose if we had another winter of rain. But the former floods minister
:03:22. > :03:23.who took that decision says despite the claims of campaign as he was
:03:24. > :03:30.acting on the best information at the time. If I am honest the
:03:31. > :03:33.evidence that was prevented -- presented to me was that while it
:03:34. > :03:36.may have made some difference large parts of the Levels would have
:03:37. > :03:43.flooded whatever we had done because we have them worst rainfall since
:03:44. > :03:45.1760. The weather has been exceptional. There are still
:03:46. > :03:49.hundreds of flood warnings and alerts in place across many
:03:50. > :03:54.communities. But in Somerset they are struggling to stop the rising
:03:55. > :04:01.water. Scores of homes are evacuated and sandbags can only do so much to
:04:02. > :04:05.help against this. Those battling the floods will not
:04:06. > :04:09.want to hear this, but the latest news from the Environment Agency is
:04:10. > :04:13.not good. They are talking about yet more bad weather, the potential of
:04:14. > :04:17.more flooding and once again one of the areas of concern is the Somerset
:04:18. > :04:21.Levels. They are also worried about the south coast, particularly the
:04:22. > :04:26.coast of Dorset, so other results as the wind picks up again here people
:04:27. > :04:34.are taking all they can to try and deal with this, yet more sandbags.
:04:35. > :04:37.Mark Harper, the Immigration Minister, has resigned from the
:04:38. > :04:41.government after it emerged he had employed a cleaner who was in the UK
:04:42. > :04:45.illegally. Mr Harper had been in charge of implementing the
:04:46. > :04:49.government's immigration reforms. Our political correspondent Iain
:04:50. > :04:54.Watson is here. Embarrassing, to say the least? It It is embarrassing if
:04:55. > :05:00.any Immigration Minister resigns because he has employed an illegal
:05:01. > :05:02.immigrant. He is piloting controversial legislation, which
:05:03. > :05:06.requires employers to do more to check the immigration status of
:05:07. > :05:13.their employees, and that is why he left. He said he checked on her
:05:14. > :05:18.immigration status in 2007, was shown a letter saying she had
:05:19. > :05:23.indefinite leave to remain and the right to work. On the 20th of
:05:24. > :05:26.January, with the big Immigration Minister -- with the Immigration
:05:27. > :05:30.Bill about to be passed, and a couple of days ago his officials
:05:31. > :05:34.said she did not have the right to remain. A resignation letter was
:05:35. > :05:39.drawn up and he has gone. The Prime Minister has replied warmly. He said
:05:40. > :05:43.he recognised that Mark Harper did not do anything wrong, he stuck to
:05:44. > :05:47.the letter of the law, has been an effective minister, but Labour say
:05:48. > :05:51.while they respect his decision they think perhaps some aspects of the
:05:52. > :05:55.Immigration Bill, may have to be revisited.
:05:56. > :06:00.Princess Cristina Ross Payne, the youngest daughter of King Juan
:06:01. > :06:04.Carlos, has been questioning court over fraud allegations involving her
:06:05. > :06:11.husband's business -- Princess Cristina of Spain. The case has
:06:12. > :06:16.provoked public outrage. From Majorca, Tom Burridge reports.
:06:17. > :06:23.For the first time ever in Spain, a member of the Royal family arriving

:06:31. > :06:34.the court she sat opposite a photo of her father, the king, and faced

:07:15. > :07:17.economic crisis. There is no doubt this scandal has caused significant
:07:18. > :07:22.damage to the reputation of Spain's Royals. So when the Princess is
:07:23. > :07:25.answering questions in court, she will not only be defending her
:07:26. > :07:31.credibility but that of the monarchy in Spain. Tonight, the Princess's
:07:32. > :07:34.lawyer said she had answered all the questions she could, but this is a
:07:35. > :07:38.country where corruption scandals are common and some of the Spanish
