:00:21. > :00:24.Good afternoon. A new satellite image has been released showing

:00:25. > :00:27.debris in the southern Indian Ocean which could be the remains of the

:00:28. > :00:32.Malaysian passenger plane that's been missing for two weeks. The new

:00:33. > :00:35.picture which was taken by a Chinese satellite on Tuesday appears to show

:00:36. > :00:40.a large object in the sea, around 75 miles from an earlier sighting of

:00:41. > :00:44.possible debris. Our correspondent Alastair Leithead is in Kuala

:00:45. > :00:53.Lumpur. His report contains flash photography from the start.

:00:54. > :00:59.The search for flight MH370 has taken many twists and turns. Still

:01:00. > :01:02.the mystery has not been solved. As the acting trance for minister took

:01:03. > :01:08.questions, the daily routine briefing, another twist was coming.

:01:09. > :01:16.Out of you, he was handed a note on a piece of paper. The news I

:01:17. > :01:19.received is that the Chinese ambassador received satellite images

:01:20. > :01:23.of floating objects in the southern corridor and they will be sending

:01:24. > :01:28.ships to verify. The Beijing government have announced -- will

:01:29. > :01:37.announce this in a couple of hours. It was 22m long. This was the new

:01:38. > :01:41.satellite image. It shows a huge floating object that is hard to make

:01:42. > :01:43.out what it is. Search teams have been scarring the southern corridor

:01:44. > :01:51.for the past three days. Last Sunday, the first image was captured

:01:52. > :01:56.by an Australian satellite. This latest image was recorded two days

:01:57. > :02:03.later on Tuesday showing what might be wreckage 75 miles south-west of

:02:04. > :02:09.the previous one. Is it the same object? What does it tell

:02:10. > :02:12.investigators? It is highly unlikely that in two days any debris would

:02:13. > :02:16.have moved in that direction at that speed. We are either looking at

:02:17. > :02:21.something completely unrelated or we are looking at parts of the same

:02:22. > :02:27.debris from something which has spread over quite a wide area. After

:02:28. > :02:31.two weeks of searching in long-range state-of-the-art planes, there have

:02:32. > :02:35.been many theories and false leads. But this latest find could be

:02:36. > :02:40.useful. It will help refocus efforts on what is still nominally a search

:02:41. > :02:45.and rescue operation in the southern Indian Ocean. But for those wanting

:02:46. > :02:49.to resolve this mystery, it is at the very least a new lead. Families

:02:50. > :02:53.of those on board came to wait meeting in Beijing hoping for news.

:02:54. > :03:02.Tempers flared as Malaysian officials refuse to take questions.

:03:03. > :03:06.We want to know what happened. They accused the Malaysian government of

:03:07. > :03:10.concealing information, delaying. They feel they have waited too long

:03:11. > :03:14.for answers. And families here do not want wreckage to be found. The

:03:15. > :03:17.lack of accurate information is giving them hope. Many believe the

:03:18. > :03:21.passengers and crew are still alive, as unlikely as that now

:03:22. > :03:27.appears. Alastair Leithead is in Kuala

:03:28. > :03:32.Lumpur. Tell us more about how the news emerged. It came as something

:03:33. > :03:38.of a surprise. It did. Very much so. It was announced in the middle of a

:03:39. > :03:44.news conference and it came from the Chinese ambassador. I do not think

:03:45. > :03:47.he wanted the message to come out. China has wanted to try and take

:03:48. > :03:52.control of this because two thirds of the passengers were Chinese. They

:03:53. > :03:56.are under a lot of pressure because of the anger of the families over

:03:57. > :04:01.delays. China is used to being able to throw its weight around in the

:04:02. > :04:04.region. Because it is being run in Malaysia, they have not been able to

:04:05. > :04:08.do that. Perhaps they are trying to catch up by showing me satellite

:04:09. > :04:12.images, to try and show that they do have strong capability to be able to

:04:13. > :04:16.lead these kind of investigations, to be involved in the way they

:04:17. > :04:20.should be. These photographs are fascinating and will play an

:04:21. > :04:25.important role in the research and rescue operation continues.

:04:26. > :04:27.A veteran Republican has appeared in court in Belfast charged in

:04:28. > :04:32.connection with the abduction and murder of a woman 40 years ago. Jean

:04:33. > :04:34.McConville, who was a mother of ten, was one of the so-called

:04:35. > :04:40.disappeared, people who were killed and secretly buried by the IRA. Ivor

:04:41. > :04:49.Bell, who is 77, was denied bail. Our Ireland correspondent Chris

:04:50. > :04:52.Buckler reports. The photograph Jean McConville's

:04:53. > :04:57.children have of their mother is decades old. In 1972, they watched

:04:58. > :05:01.as she was dragged out of her home by an IRA gang. When do you think

:05:02. > :05:07.you will see your mum again? I don't know. Keep our fingers crossed and

:05:08. > :05:13.pray hard. They would never see her alive again. She became known as one

:05:14. > :05:18.of the disappeared. People abducted, killed and buried in secret by

:05:19. > :05:23.republican paramilitaries. Today more than four decades later members

:05:24. > :05:28.of Jean McConville's family went to court to see a man charged in

:05:29. > :05:32.connection with her killing. Ivor Bell is alleged to be a former IRA

:05:33. > :05:36.leader. Today he was accused of aiding and abetting in Jean

:05:37. > :05:41.McConville's murder. It is claimed the evidence came from test to me he

:05:42. > :05:51.had given. But McRae testimony. He gave interviews about the Troubles

:05:52. > :05:55.on condition the Boston tapes would not be published until they died.

:05:56. > :06:00.Today in Belfast there were protests from some who regard this as a

:06:01. > :06:02.political prosecution of an elderly man who once represented Republicans

:06:03. > :06:08.in talks with the British Government. Ivor Bell was denied

:06:09. > :06:11.bail. In court, his lawyer indicated he would be denying all of the

:06:12. > :06:16.charges connected to the killing of a widowed mother taken from her home

:06:17. > :06:21.in West bar fast. Any trial has the potential to be difficult for senior

:06:22. > :06:25.Republicans, particularly as other allegations have already emerged as

:06:26. > :06:32.a result of the Boston tapes -- West Belfast. In an interview, the late

:06:33. > :06:34.IRA commander claimed the Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams was involved

:06:35. > :06:40.in Jean McConville's death, something he has always denied.

:06:41. > :06:47.There is only one man who gave the order. That man is now the head of

:06:48. > :06:51.Sinn Fein. It is only a decade since Jean McConville's remains were

:06:52. > :06:56.discovered on a beach. Her family says that what ever happens the pain

:06:57. > :06:59.of losing her will never go away. Russian troops have stormed two

:07:00. > :07:02.military bases in Crimea in the first direct use of force by Russian

:07:03. > :07:06.military personnel since the start of the crisis over Ukraine. On

:07:07. > :07:09.Friday, Russian president, Vladimir Putin, signed a law formalising

:07:10. > :07:14.Russia's takeover of Crimea from Ukraine, despite fresh sanctions

:07:15. > :07:17.from the EU and the US. Our correspondent Ian Pannell was inside

:07:18. > :07:29.the airbase in Belbek when it was stormed by Russian soldiers. What

:07:30. > :07:33.happened? Pretty extraordinary scenes. There had been a tense build

:07:34. > :07:38.up over a number of days and then we sort the Russian forces come down

:07:39. > :07:41.the hill from parts of the base they controlled using armoured vehicles

:07:42. > :07:45.with heavy guns mounted on top and they tried to battle their way

:07:46. > :07:50.firstly into the gate and secondly into the outer perimeter wall which

:07:51. > :07:55.they managed to breach in two locations. It was an incredibly

:07:56. > :07:59.tense situation. There were a distraction grenades, loud

:08:00. > :08:05.explosions, automatic gunfire and special forces, Russian special

:08:06. > :08:09.forces moving in to the base itself. They forced the Ukrainian troops

:08:10. > :08:14.into one area, forcing them effectively to disarm. Now the bases

:08:15. > :08:21.under the control of Russian forces. Briefly, it looks like the pressure

:08:22. > :08:26.is ramping up. Yes, it does. An extraordinary escalation of force by

:08:27. > :08:32.Russia. There are only a handful of bases left still technically under

:08:33. > :08:36.the charge of Kiev. Despite an attempt to try and handle both

:08:37. > :08:41.locally, they clearly decided enough is enough and they want the rest of

:08:42. > :08:48.these bases under their control. Tonight, they have almost achieved

:08:49. > :08:51.that. In football, Arsene Wenger's 1,000th match didn't go quite to

:08:52. > :08:54.plan. His team Arsenal were thrashed in a 6-0 defeat against rivals

:08:55. > :09:01.Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Katie Gornall watched the action.

:09:02. > :09:08.18 years since he first arrived in London, Arsene Wenger's 1000th game

:09:09. > :09:12.against familiar foe. Arsene Wenger has never beaten Jose Mourinho.

:09:13. > :09:17.Their first blow was clinical, delivered by Samuel Eto'o, Arsenal

:09:18. > :09:23.barely had time to dust themselves off before Andre Schurrle sent them

:09:24. > :09:29.to the canvas once more. Arsenal resorted to desperate measures. This

:09:30. > :09:34.handball was blatant but not to the referee who sent off a bewildered

:09:35. > :09:40.Kieran Gibbs by mistake. Despite the culprit saying, it was me. Eden

:09:41. > :09:47.Hazard slotted home the penalty. Inevitably, more goals followed. Six

:09:48. > :09:53.in total for Chelsea. Arsene Wenger has had many great memories at

:09:54. > :09:58.Arsenal, but this was one to forget. Despite the vast experience I have,

:09:59. > :10:03.when you do not turn up in a game like that, it is your

:10:04. > :10:06.responsibility. This was Chelsea's biggest win in the Premier League

:10:07. > :10:13.under Jose Mourinho. Come the end of the Stephen, it could even more

:10:14. > :10:14.significant -- end of the season. I will
