:00:20. > :00:24.Good afternoon. France has said it has new satellite images of

:00:25. > :00:28.potential objects in the southern Indian Ocean that could be from a

:00:29. > :00:32.passenger jet that went missing more than two weeks ago. Previous

:00:33. > :00:37.satellite pictures from Australia and China have shown large objects

:00:38. > :00:40.floating in the same search area. John Donnison has the latest from

:00:41. > :00:49.Perth where the search operation is being co-ordinated.

:00:50. > :00:58.Soon after dawn, search planes took to the skies for a fourth day. Eight

:00:59. > :01:02.aircraft headed out from Perth. Their destination, 1500 miles into

:01:03. > :01:06.the southern Indian Ocean. Malaysia and officials announced that France

:01:07. > :01:10.has new satellite pictures taken in the area that appeared to show

:01:11. > :01:17.possible debris from the missing jet. We have now had a number of

:01:18. > :01:21.varied credible leads and there is increasing hope, no more than hope,

:01:22. > :01:29.no more than hope that we might be on the road to discovering what did

:01:30. > :01:35.happen to this ill-fated aircraft. The fate of MH 370 is gripping the

:01:36. > :01:39.world 's attention. The search effort is becoming increasingly

:01:40. > :01:43.international. Two Chinese Air Force planes are now here and they are

:01:44. > :01:46.expected to start work tomorrow. Four days into the search operation

:01:47. > :01:54.into the southern Indian Ocean, still nothing of any significance

:01:55. > :01:59.has been found. The operation is likely to intensify in the coming

:02:00. > :02:03.days. The ultimate goal will be to find the on-board black box, which

:02:04. > :02:09.could be thousands of metres below the ocean. Black boxes have an

:02:10. > :02:13.attached beacon which sends out and locating signal but only have 30

:02:14. > :02:17.days battery life. We have had instances where the data has been

:02:18. > :02:23.recoverable year after. In S France, it was two years after.

:02:24. > :02:27.Aircrews preparing for another day 's flying though they could be in

:02:28. > :02:33.for a long haul. It might be years, if ever, before be fully understand

:02:34. > :02:42.the mystery of the missing Malaysian jet. -- we fully understand. Let's

:02:43. > :02:45.go live to John now. Presumably the French satellite images have the

:02:46. > :02:50.potential to change the way the search operation is conducted

:02:51. > :02:53.bastion Mark they do. I do not think it will chipped the focus away from

:02:54. > :03:01.the southern Indian Ocean because that is where the images appear to

:03:02. > :03:06.have picked something up. It could shift it to a different area. The

:03:07. > :03:11.area was expanded to around 59,000 square: It is, that was up from

:03:12. > :03:16.yesterday. We will just have to wait and see. It has taken quite a long

:03:17. > :03:19.time. The news of these French satellite pictures came through

:03:20. > :03:25.several hours ago and we have still not seen anything yet. We will have

:03:26. > :03:31.to wait and see. Definitely, the focus is very much on the southern

:03:32. > :03:35.Indian Ocean. Three teenage boys are being questioned by police in East

:03:36. > :03:39.London over the death of a girl, who is believed to have been 15. The

:03:40. > :03:46.girl was shot at a house in Hackney yesterday afternoon. Chris King is

:03:47. > :03:50.there. What more can you tell us? Police were called here about 4pm

:03:51. > :03:54.yesterday afternoon after reports that a 15-year-old girl had been

:03:55. > :04:02.shot. It was said she died at the scene. Three boys were arrested.

:04:03. > :04:06.They are to 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old. This Road was closed

:04:07. > :04:11.for quite a while but now it is just the house behind me, where the

:04:12. > :04:15.incident happened, which has been cordoned off. And sick investigators

:04:16. > :04:21.have been going in and out of that all day, looking for clues. --

:04:22. > :04:32.forensic investigators. The victim has been named locally but no formal

:04:33. > :04:36.investigation is -- identification is expected before tomorrow morning

:04:37. > :04:39.at the earliest. A British man accused of arranging the murder of

:04:40. > :04:42.his wife while on honeymoon will be extradited early next month

:04:43. > :04:45.according to the South African authorities. They say Shrien Dewani

:04:46. > :04:55.is due to arrive in Cape Town on eighth April, and will appear in

:04:56. > :04:58.court the same day. He denies any involvement in the death of his

:04:59. > :05:01.wife, Anni, in November 2010. Thousands of girls and young women

:05:02. > :05:04.in England and Wales are trapped in gangs and living desperate lives,

:05:05. > :05:07.according to a new report. The think-tank, the Centre for Social

:05:08. > :05:10.Justice, founded by the Work and Pensions Minister, Iain Duncan

:05:11. > :05:13.Smith, says not enough progress has been made, despite a Home Office

:05:14. > :05:25.plan to tackle gang culture after the 2011 riots. It has been

:05:26. > :05:28.described as an invisible problem. Researchers say they do not know the

:05:29. > :05:32.scale of the abuse but it is estimated thousands of girls and

:05:33. > :05:34.young women are trapped in an insidious underworld where sexual

:05:35. > :05:38.violence is the norm. The report says that in one case a schoolgirl

:05:39. > :05:41.was abducted and sexually assaulted by nine gang members because she

:05:42. > :05:44.criticised one of their circle. The girls and women associated with

:05:45. > :05:50.rival gangs are also seen as ready targets. Children could be forced to

:05:51. > :05:53.become drug mules and gunrunners. We have had examples of girls as young

:05:54. > :05:57.as eight, being dressed in school uniform, and being driven along to

:05:58. > :06:00.make it look as though they are being taken to school when, in

:06:01. > :06:05.actual fact, they have drugs stashed inside of them and they are being

:06:06. > :06:08.used as couriers in the drugs trade. London has the biggest problem but

:06:09. > :06:12.gang violence also exists in many of our major cities and towns. The

:06:13. > :06:15.report says girls and young women can get pulled into the culture

:06:16. > :06:19.through relationships because of the breakdown of their families. The

:06:20. > :06:22.Centre for Social Justice says more needs to be done to help this

:06:23. > :06:26.vulnerable group and would like to see youth workers on hand at A

:06:27. > :06:29.departments and police forces to team up with voluntary organisations

:06:30. > :06:32.to ensure that when gang numbers are jailed, the girlfriends are given

:06:33. > :06:39.the support they need to leave their old lives behind.

:06:40. > :06:44.GP services are under severe threat of extinction because of increasing

:06:45. > :06:48.demands and dwindling budgets. That's according to the head of the

:06:49. > :06:53.Royal College of GPs who wants more doctors and nursing staff employed.

:06:54. > :07:03.The Department of Health says it's increasing the number of trainees.

:07:04. > :07:08.Nick Beake reports. For many of us, the trip to a doctor is the main

:07:09. > :07:14.point of contact with the NHS. With a growing population, there are more

:07:15. > :07:17.and more patients to see. Today, is stark and contentious claim that GP

:07:18. > :07:23.services are in a critical condition. Over the last three

:07:24. > :07:27.years, across the United Kingdom, we have had actual cash balls in

:07:28. > :07:35.funding for general practice. Unlike any other part of the NHS. The Royal

:07:36. > :07:39.College of GPs claims some surgeries have already closed because staff

:07:40. > :07:44.have not been able to cope with growing workloads. The college

:07:45. > :07:51.points out there are 300 million GP consultations in the UK in 2008 and

:07:52. > :07:56.that rose to 340 million by 2012. It claims government funding has fallen

:07:57. > :08:01.in real terms each of the past three years and that there has been a cut

:08:02. > :08:05.of 9.1 billion since 2004, when inflation is taken into

:08:06. > :08:09.consideration. Health ministers say they recognise the vital role that

:08:10. > :08:13.GPs play. That is why they have cut their targets by more than a third

:08:14. > :08:16.said they have more time to spend with patients. The Government also

:08:17. > :08:22.says it is increasing trainees so that the number of GPs will continue

:08:23. > :08:29.to rise faster than the population. Labour claims this warning shows

:08:30. > :08:31.patients are being put at risk but health bosses insist they are

:08:32. > :08:34.spending millions to make it easier to get an appointment. More than

:08:35. > :08:38.17,000 people have bought properties using the Government's Help To Buy

:08:39. > :08:41.schemes over the past nine months. Most have been first time buyers.

:08:42. > :08:51.Labour says rising demand needs to be met by building new homes. Judith

:08:52. > :08:55.Moritz reports. They help to buy scheme rolled out across the UK from

:08:56. > :09:00.April last year and the Government is hailing it a success. More than

:09:01. > :09:04.17,000 properties have been bought through the plan since it was

:09:05. > :09:08.launched. Each home is purchased with a minimum deposit of 5% from a

:09:09. > :09:14.buyer. Labour says not enough houses are being built on some critics have

:09:15. > :09:17.warned Help To Buy may create a housing bubble, with increasingly

:09:18. > :09:21.unaffordable housing prices but the Government does not agree. It is a

:09:22. > :09:25.really good way of stimulating the market and getting first-time buyers

:09:26. > :09:30.onto it, it is actually about 2% of overall sales. The idea it is a

:09:31. > :09:36.product which is attracting first-time buyers and is overheating

:09:37. > :09:41.the market is wrong. The Chancellor announced this week that the equity

:09:42. > :09:46.loan part of the scheme is to be extended until 2020. The gunmen will

:09:47. > :09:51.loan up to 20% of the value of a new build property. -- the Government.

:09:52. > :09:55.Buyers of older properties can use the mortgage guarantee scheme, in

:09:56. > :09:59.which the Government covers the lender 's risk. This has been most

:10:00. > :10:04.popular in the north-west and Scotland. These latest government

:10:05. > :10:09.figures show that 88% of overall sales have gone to first-time buyers

:10:10. > :10:13.and that 114 properties a day are currently being purchased through

:10:14. > :10:17.Help To Buy. You can see more on all of today's stories on the BBC News

:10:18. > :10:32.Channel. The next news on BBC One is at 6:35pm this evening. Bye for now.

:10:33. > :10:38.Hello. After the wild weather of the winter months, it seems unusual to

:10:39. > :10:42.be talking about typical weather, whether that fits the season. But

:10:43. > :10:43.that is what we are expecting across the UK this
