:00:23. > :00:27.Hello, good afternoon. A service has been held to remember those lost in

:00:28. > :00:30.the South Korean ferry disaster this morning. Bodies have continued to be

:00:31. > :00:34.removed from the vessel with 50 people now confirmed to have died.

:00:35. > :00:37.But relatives of some of the 250 people still missing have clashed

:00:38. > :00:48.with police angry at the slow process of the recovery, as Martin

:00:49. > :00:53.Patience reports. On Easter Sunday, families held a

:00:54. > :00:58.service in their hometown. Missing from the pews, hundreds of teenagers

:00:59. > :01:06.now dead. An entire school year wiped out. 200 miles away, sons and

:01:07. > :01:12.daughters brought to shore in body bags. Families are being taken to

:01:13. > :01:17.the morgue behind me where they are identifying the bodies. You can just

:01:18. > :01:21.hear the sobbing of one woman inside. For other families still

:01:22. > :01:33.waiting, they want this recovery operation to be sped up. Relatives

:01:34. > :01:36.staged a protest, calling on the government to do more. Many are

:01:37. > :01:44.desperate as Hope gives way to grief. This woman's niece was on

:01:45. > :01:49.board the stricken ferry. All her children are beneath the waves, she

:01:50. > :01:55.says. We just want their bodies back before they decompose. But the

:01:56. > :02:00.recovery will take days, as divers struggle with difficult and

:02:01. > :02:05.dangerous conditions. TRANSLATION: We are unable to pinpoint exactly

:02:06. > :02:10.where the dead bodies were found. Divers are also not sure about this

:02:11. > :02:16.due to the limited visibility underwater. More boats set out for

:02:17. > :02:28.the grim task, as parents wait for the bodies of their children.

:02:29. > :02:32.A businessman, reappointed to a role as chairman of a group handing out

:02:33. > :02:36.billions of pounds in loans to councils by the Prime Minister, has

:02:37. > :02:39.resigned after it was revealed he is bankrupt. Tony Caplin was head of

:02:40. > :02:41.the Public Works Loans Board, but was declared bankrupt in 2012. Let's

:02:42. > :02:44.speak to our Political Correspondent, Louise Stewart.

:02:45. > :02:48.Louise, a bit of an embarrassment for David Cameron? Labour have

:02:49. > :02:52.described it as astonishing that he was appointed as the chairman of the

:02:53. > :02:55.body which lends billions of pounds to local authorities and they

:02:56. > :03:00.question whether the due diligence was done prior to his appointment.

:03:01. > :03:05.Number Ten point of the fact that actually he was appointed to this

:03:06. > :03:11.board in 2003 by the then Labour government. He wasn't declared

:03:12. > :03:15.bankrupt then though. He was declared bankrupt in 2012, then

:03:16. > :03:22.subsequently appointed by David Cameron as chairman of the Treasury

:03:23. > :03:27.body which takes control of lending operations. A source has told me

:03:28. > :03:31.that Downing Street was unaware he had been made bankrupt, but under

:03:32. > :03:34.Whitehall rules he should have informed ministers. A Conservative

:03:35. > :03:46.party spokesman said they have pointed that out to him and he has

:03:47. > :03:49.now resigned over this. The leaders of the Anglican and

:03:50. > :03:51.Roman Catholic churches in Britain have both used their traditional

:03:52. > :03:54.Easter messages to highlight the plight of the poor. The Archbishop

:03:55. > :03:57.of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, said that even with

:03:58. > :04:01.the economy improving there were many families still living in fear

:04:02. > :04:06.of debt and too ashamed to seek help. Here's our religious affairs

:04:07. > :04:11.correspondent, Robert Pigott. Pomp and ceremony in Canterbury

:04:12. > :04:14.Cathedral for Christianity's principal festival, celebrating the

:04:15. > :04:19.resurrection of Jesus 2000 years ago. The Archbishop of Canterbury

:04:20. > :04:24.talked about the continuing power of that event and the lives of

:04:25. > :04:30.Christians suffering fear, and poverty. In this country, even as

:04:31. > :04:33.the economy improves, there is weeping in broken families, in

:04:34. > :04:42.people ashamed to seek help from food banks, or frightened by debt.

:04:43. > :04:47.At Westminster Cathedral, Roman Catholics celebrated the light they

:04:48. > :04:51.believe Easter brings. The congregation was reminded of the

:04:52. > :04:55.darkness endured by the homeless and the hungry, esteemed church leaders

:04:56. > :05:00.have focused on repeatedly in recent months. The leader of the Roman

:05:01. > :05:06.Catholic Church in England and Wales, Cardinal Vincent Nichols,

:05:07. > :05:10.said the poor had been Jesus's first priority and should remain a

:05:11. > :05:16.priority today. On this night of such promise, we keep in mind all

:05:17. > :05:22.who feel excluded from the fruits of the Earth, the homeless and the

:05:23. > :05:27.poor. Those in our midst who are destitute. And the vast numbers of

:05:28. > :05:37.hungry around the world. In Rome, tens of thousands of pilgrims

:05:38. > :05:45.greeted Pope Francis. He blessed them and prayed for peace in Ukraine

:05:46. > :05:55.and Syria, then he also prayed for those crushed by life's troubles.

:05:56. > :05:59.The National Union of Teachers is continuing its annual conference in

:06:00. > :06:02.Brighton and was expected to take a vote on strike action this morning

:06:03. > :06:04.but things didn't go quite to plan. Let's speak to our Education

:06:05. > :06:09.Correspondent, Reeta Chakrabarti. Reeta, what's happened?

:06:10. > :06:15.As you said, and expected vote on strike action was meant to happen

:06:16. > :06:19.today but it has been delayed. We are expecting it on Monday or

:06:20. > :06:24.Tuesday. I think there is little doubt but when it does happen, it

:06:25. > :06:29.will be carried overwhelmingly, and that will mean it leaves the door

:06:30. > :06:34.open for further strike action by the NUT if there is no progress in

:06:35. > :06:43.talks with the Government. And you have learned to develop

:06:44. > :06:48.development on the investigation into claims on the schools in

:06:49. > :06:53.Birmingham? Yes, the claims have centred on a group of schools in

:06:54. > :06:57.Birmingham, allegations that there are attempts to these schools to be

:06:58. > :07:04.taken over by a group of Muslim hardliners and that has caused

:07:05. > :07:15.anxiety and controversy. Ofsted has undertaken some inspections and we

:07:16. > :07:26.are hearing that they are concerned enough but the reports will be

:07:27. > :07:29.finalised in early May. Thank you. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

:07:30. > :07:34.have continued their tour of Australia with a trip to the zoo

:07:35. > :07:37.with Prince George. And while eight-month-old George seems to

:07:38. > :07:40.enjoy the real life animals, he seemed less than impressed when

:07:41. > :07:43.presented with a furry toy Bilby - an animal with rivals the

:07:44. > :07:45.traditional Easter Bunny in the affections of Australian children.

:07:46. > :07:57.Nicholas Witchell reports from Sydney. A visit to the zoo, a

:07:58. > :08:01.child's delight. But George, almost nine months old, there was an

:08:02. > :08:08.enclosure at this zoo named in his honour, and a small animal to get to

:08:09. > :08:13.know. One thing was apparent, Prince George is very nearly standing by

:08:14. > :08:17.himself now and not far short of walking. His mother offered a steady

:08:18. > :08:22.hand, and a helpful white of his chin in case of any dribbling, as

:08:23. > :08:27.George started to get the hang of posing for cameras. Dad took over

:08:28. > :08:40.and George began a serious attempt to get closer to the bilby. By now

:08:41. > :08:46.it was time for bilby spotting to stop. The parents seem pleased.

:08:47. > :08:52.Before they left, George performed his first official unveiling with

:08:53. > :08:56.gusto and was awarded with a toy bilby which he promptly threw away.

:08:57. > :09:01.That lesson in royal protocol will evidently have to come later.

:09:02. > :09:06.William and Kate watched a display of Australian bird and posed with a

:09:07. > :09:12.koala bear, but the pictures that will be remembered are those of

:09:13. > :09:15.George. Those images will be of particular interest to one person,

:09:16. > :09:22.George's great-grandmother, the Queen, whose 80th birthday is

:09:23. > :09:25.tomorrow. And before we go, a new portrait of the Queen by the

:09:26. > :09:30.renowned photographer David Bailey has been unveiled. The black and

:09:31. > :09:33.white image of the smiling monarch was taken at Buckingham Palace in

:09:34. > :09:37.March, and has been released to mark her 88th birthday tomorrow. It will

:09:38. > :09:42.be used as part of a Government campaign to promote the UK abroad.

:09:43. > :09:49.You can see more on all of today's stories on the BBC News Channel. The

:09:50. > :10:04.next news on BBC One is at 6:35pm. Bye for now.

:10:05. > :10:09.Good afternoon. Easter Day has brought with it a day of mixed

:10:10. > :10:10.fortunes across the
