:00:07. > :00:13.A recording has emerged of the panic and indecision of the crew aboard

:00:14. > :00:17.the South Korea ferry as it sank. Bodies are still being retrieved.

:00:18. > :00:22.Some relatives of the missing have clashed with the police, saying the

:00:23. > :00:26.search is too slow. A businessman appointed by David Cameron to manage

:00:27. > :00:32.loans to local councils has resigned after the revelations he had been

:00:33. > :00:37.declared bankrupt. One is not amused - Prince George preferred real

:00:38. > :00:45.anties to the cuddly variety on a visit to a zoo in Australia. And the

:00:46. > :00:48.sterling per performance from Liverpool edges them closer to the

:00:49. > :01:06.Premier League title. A very good evening to you. A

:01:07. > :01:12.recording has emerged of the frantic, final communications of a

:01:13. > :01:21.crew of a ferry as it began to sink off the coast of South Korea. More

:01:22. > :01:27.bodies have been recovered from the wreck. 250, mainly teenage children,

:01:28. > :01:32.are still missing. More than 50 people have been confirmed dead. A

:01:33. > :01:40.service has been held in the home city of most of the missing

:01:41. > :01:46.teenagers. Easter services are not meant to be

:01:47. > :01:52.sombre memorials, but this was. This is a town with little hope and too

:01:53. > :01:58.many missing children. Some of those missing on board the ferry were

:01:59. > :02:07.regulars at churches here. This Sunday school teacher read a letter

:02:08. > :02:11.to them. Beloved students, please hang on a

:02:12. > :02:16.little longer. I cannot let you go. Only parents were allowed inside the

:02:17. > :02:22.school today, but on the street outside, students from other high

:02:23. > :02:28.schools in Seoul, said prayers. Others left flowers and Easter eggs.

:02:29. > :02:34.The messages read, Stay alive. Please hold on." This is a community

:02:35. > :02:37.in mourning. A third of the students who were on board the ferry came

:02:38. > :02:41.from this little community just behind the school. Local residents

:02:42. > :02:46.say this is a community traumatised and that every building in this

:02:47. > :02:51.district had two or three children missing.

:02:52. > :02:57.In Jindo, hope is giving way to anger. Families on a pro-fes march

:02:58. > :03:01.were -- protest march were stopped before they reached the mainland, as

:03:02. > :03:07.another boat ferried bodies to the shore.

:03:08. > :03:11.TRANSLATION: Our children are in the water. I am asking you to get their

:03:12. > :03:16.bodies back before they decay. They are just leaving them there.

:03:17. > :03:21.New evidence emerged today of the ferry's final moments. A

:03:22. > :03:26.conversation with South Korea's shipping traffic control. If this

:03:27. > :03:31.ferry evacuates, will the passengers be rescued immediately, ask the

:03:32. > :03:36.crew? The reply is that the captain must make that decision and that

:03:37. > :03:41.patrol boats are ten minutes away. In the South Korea capital tonight a

:03:42. > :03:47.vigil - a sharing of grief and anger too. There'll be many more nights

:03:48. > :03:54.like this and a darkness that no candle can dispel.

:03:55. > :03:59.A businessman reappointed by David Cameron has chairman of a group

:04:00. > :04:03.handing out billions of pounds in loans to local councils has resigned

:04:04. > :04:07.after the revelation he had been declared bankrupt. Tony Caplin was

:04:08. > :04:13.head of the Public Works Loan Board, but was made insolvent in 2012.

:04:14. > :04:17.Here is our political correspondent. Tony Caplin's many public roles

:04:18. > :04:22.have, until now, been largely behind the scenes. The businessman sat on a

:04:23. > :04:26.number of public bodies. Last year, David Cameron made him chairman of

:04:27. > :04:30.the Public Works Loan Board, which manages millions of loans to local

:04:31. > :04:36.councils. Now, it has emerged he previously had been declared

:04:37. > :04:41.bankrupt. The idea that the Prime Minister appointed a man to run the

:04:42. > :04:45.Treasury's lending operations, who himself, allegedly, owed hundreds of

:04:46. > :04:50.thousands of pounds to the Treasury because he had gone bankrupt, it

:04:51. > :04:54.beggars belief! Number Ten has highlighted the fact Tony Caplin was

:04:55. > :04:58.first appointed to the Public Works Loan Board under a Labour Government

:04:59. > :05:02.in 2003 and reappointed by the Prime Minister. Sources say he didn't

:05:03. > :05:11.declare he had been made bankrupt and should somewhere. -- and should

:05:12. > :05:16.have. In 2 oh 05 Mr Caplin -- 2005 Mr Caplin worked for the kans. A

:05:17. > :05:21.spokesman said he has no role in the party. These links have called for

:05:22. > :05:24.transparency over public appointments by all political

:05:25. > :05:31.parties. We want to have a clear, honest and transparent political

:05:32. > :05:34.system. If there are quangos spending large numbers of public

:05:35. > :05:41.money, we want to know they are properly run. It is upped Mr

:05:42. > :05:45.Caplin's -- it is understand Mr Caplin's bankruptcy has been

:05:46. > :05:50.discharged. The repercussions may last longer. Russia says it is

:05:51. > :05:59.outraged after at least three were killed in a gun battle at a

:06:00. > :06:05.pro-Russian checkpoint. It happened near Sloviansk. The mayor has asked

:06:06. > :06:12.Vladimir Putin to sent in peacekeeping of troops.

:06:13. > :06:15.The leaders of the Anglican Church and Roman Catholic Church in England

:06:16. > :06:19.and Wales have used their Easter messages to highlight the problems

:06:20. > :06:23.of the poor. Justin Welby said even with the economy improving, there

:06:24. > :06:31.were many families living in fear of debt.

:06:32. > :06:40.Pomp and ceremony in Canterbury Cathedral. Celebrating the

:06:41. > :06:45.resurrection of Jesus, 2,000 years ago. Justin Welby talked about the

:06:46. > :06:49.continuing power of that event, in giving Christians around the world

:06:50. > :06:53.the hope they needed to endure, what he called, the most devastating of

:06:54. > :06:57.conditions. He said there was sorrow and hardship in Britain too. In this

:06:58. > :07:03.country, even as the economy improves, there is weeping and

:07:04. > :07:12.broken families. In people ashamed to seek help from food banks or

:07:13. > :07:16.frightened by debt. As Roman Catholics celebrated the

:07:17. > :07:22.light they believe Easter brings, they too were reminded of the

:07:23. > :07:26.darkness endured in Britain. Behold him that takes away the sins of the

:07:27. > :07:31.world... At Westminster Cathedral last night, the leader of the Roman

:07:32. > :07:35.Catholic Church in England and Wales, Cardinal Vincent Nichols,

:07:36. > :07:39.recalled out Jesus sought out such people so they could be fed. In

:07:40. > :07:43.recent months church leaders have used every opportunity to keep the

:07:44. > :07:47.spotlight on the poor and destitute. Vincent Nichols said they were

:07:48. > :07:53.Jesus's priority and should remain one today. We keep in mind all who

:07:54. > :07:58.feel excluded from the fruits of the Earth. The homeless and the poor.

:07:59. > :08:01.Those in our midst who are destitute.

:08:02. > :08:07.And the vast numbers of hungry around the world.

:08:08. > :08:12.In Rome, tens of thousands of pilgrims greeted Pope Francis. The

:08:13. > :08:20.Pope blessed them and prayed for peace in Ukraine and Syria.

:08:21. > :08:25.Then he too urged help for the needy close to home, the sick and outcast

:08:26. > :08:30.and those crushed by life's troubles.

:08:31. > :08:34.Now, you may have been one of the unlucky ones today who turned up at

:08:35. > :08:40.a garden centre only to find it was closed. Campaigners are urging the

:08:41. > :08:46.Government to change an nolly in the Sunday trading laws which means

:08:47. > :08:52.larger outlets must close, while smaller outlets can stay open. April

:08:53. > :08:56.showers didn't stop the hardiest of gardeners shopping today. Louise's

:08:57. > :09:02.garden centre is small enough to be allowed to trade on Easter Sunday.

:09:03. > :09:07.We have had a tough couple of years in this industry. For us to be open

:09:08. > :09:11.for four days is vital. We hope for a really fantastic Easter. For the

:09:12. > :09:14.bigger garden centres it has been a different story. They have been

:09:15. > :09:18.forced to close today and they say they are missing out on millions of

:09:19. > :09:23.pounds. Although Sunday trading was

:09:24. > :09:26.legalised 20 years ago, larger shops, including garden centres,

:09:27. > :09:36.still cannot open on this particular Sunday. There are about ?5, 500 on

:09:37. > :09:41.Easter Sunday aalone which garden centres are not making. That is an

:09:42. > :09:45.economic boost up to ?75 million. Campaigners claim many MPs and the

:09:46. > :09:50.public want the law changed. It is something we would normally do on a

:09:51. > :09:58.Sunday. So, it is sad if they cannot open over Easter. There are bread

:09:59. > :10:01.shops open and little Tescos, but no garden centre. There is nowhere else

:10:02. > :10:06.to go, apart from here. It is nice here. I think the time has gone,

:10:07. > :10:12.honestly. Sunday is not special any more. Not according to religious

:10:13. > :10:17.groups. They are adamant the tills should fall silent on their holy

:10:18. > :10:22.day. The Government says it has no current plans to water down the

:10:23. > :10:27.rules. Now, with all the sport over to the

:10:28. > :10:31.BBC Sport Centre. It has been business as usual. Liverpool are

:10:32. > :10:37.closing in on their first league title since 1990. They are five

:10:38. > :10:42.points clear after beating Norwich. Arsenal won today to stay fourth.

:10:43. > :10:50.Everton are behind them after a miserable return to Goodison Park

:10:51. > :10:54.for David Moyes. After Chelsea's surprise slip up,

:10:55. > :10:59.the question was, could Liverpool capitalise? Sterling provided the

:11:00. > :11:03.answer after four minutes with a stunning strike. The league leaders

:11:04. > :11:09.were embratsing the pressure. -- embracing the pressure.

:11:10. > :11:16.The Premier League strugglers weathered the storm. Hooper pouncing

:11:17. > :11:21.on a mistake by the goalkeeper. The Liverpool would not be denied.

:11:22. > :11:27.Sterling raced away, thanks to a deflection. Fortune was favouring

:11:28. > :11:35.the brave. Norwich scored another. Liverpool clung on.

:11:36. > :11:40.Back on Merseyside, David Moyes returned to Goodison Park for the

:11:41. > :11:44.first time since leaving for Manchester United. It was not the

:11:45. > :11:49.warmest of welcomes. There was little respite for Moyes. Leighton

:11:50. > :11:57.Baines put Everton in front from the penalty spot.

:11:58. > :12:03.Kevin Mirallas sealed victory. Everton's European dreams remain

:12:04. > :12:08.alive, as do Arsenal's. They saw off Hull City, 3-0, to stay in fourth

:12:09. > :12:12.place. Lewis Hamilton's flying start to the

:12:13. > :12:16.Formula One season continues. He has won three races in a row for the

:12:17. > :12:21.first time in his career. His latest at the Chinese Grand Prix. He led

:12:22. > :12:25.from start to finish. After the wettest of qualifying, the

:12:26. > :12:30.crowds came to Shanghai to see if Lewis Hamilton could work the same

:12:31. > :12:34.sort of magic in the dry. The Brit said this race was his to lose and

:12:35. > :12:41.he made sure that wouldn't happen right from lights out. There was no

:12:42. > :12:48.love lost between former team-mates Massa and Alonso.

:12:49. > :12:53.And things only got worse for Massa. Red Bull got it wrong too, handing

:12:54. > :13:00.Alonso the advantage over Vettel, after he pitted a lap later. The

:13:01. > :13:06.world champion didn't have the best of days. Let him through. Tough

:13:07. > :13:13.luck! Alonso couldn't withstand the pace

:13:14. > :13:19.of Rosberg, who could not match Hamilton. Three wins in a row, but

:13:20. > :13:25.Rosberg maintains a four-point championship lead.

:13:26. > :13:30.It has been Derby day at the millenniumful stadium. Ospreys beat

:13:31. > :13:35.Dragons. Cardiff Blues got the better of Scarlets. Both sides had a

:13:36. > :13:40.player sent off. The Blues led early on, thanks from a try from Alex

:13:41. > :13:44.Cuthbert. They won 17-13. In the English Premiership, there were wins

:13:45. > :13:51.for Northampton and Saracens. That is all your sport.

:13:52. > :13:57.The Duke and Duchess Duke and Duchess of cam bridge have had a

:13:58. > :14:03.trip to the zoo with Prince George. He was less impressed when presented

:14:04. > :14:08.with a cuddly toy. A visit to the zoo a child's

:14:09. > :14:13.delight. For George, two days short of being nine months old now, it was

:14:14. > :14:18.an enclosure at the zoo in Sydney, named in his honour and a small

:14:19. > :14:22.animal, a bilby, also called George, to get to know. One thing was

:14:23. > :14:27.apparent, George, the Prince, is very nearly standing by himself now

:14:28. > :14:33.and not far short of walking. Mum offered a steadying hand and a

:14:34. > :14:37.helpful wipe of the chin in case of any dribbling as George got the hang

:14:38. > :14:42.of posing for the cameras. Dad took over and George began a

:14:43. > :14:46.serious attempt to get closer to the bilby. A ground-level approach

:14:47. > :14:53.didn't work, neither did going over the top. By now, it was time for

:14:54. > :14:59.bilby-spotting to stop. Dad and mum seemed pleased. Before they left

:15:00. > :15:04.bilby-land, George performed his first official unveiling with gusto

:15:05. > :15:09.and was awarded with a toy bilby, which he promptly threw away. That

:15:10. > :15:14.lesson in royal protocol will have to come later.

:15:15. > :15:19.William and Kate toured the zoo. They watched bird life and posed

:15:20. > :15:24.with a koala. The pictures which will be remembered are George's.

:15:25. > :15:29.Those images of baby George will be of particular interest to one

:15:30. > :15:35.person, George's great grandmother, the Queen, whose 88th birthday it is

:15:36. > :15:37.tomorrow. That's it.
