:00:00. > :00:13.The search is called off for four British sailors missing in the

:00:14. > :00:16.mid-Atlantic. They were returning to Southampton from the Caribbean. It's

:00:17. > :00:18.thought their vessel capsized in bad weather, heading for Southampton

:00:19. > :00:21.from the Caribbean. Also in tonight's programme: The

:00:22. > :00:24.Governor of the Bank of England says more homes need to be built to ease

:00:25. > :00:27.the threat to the economy from surging house prices.

:00:28. > :00:34.There are fears tonight that floods in the Balkans, which have killed at

:00:35. > :00:38.least 35 people, could get worse. And the Gunners have a glittering

:00:39. > :00:39.prize. Arsenal have been showing off the FA Cup in the North London

:00:40. > :01:03.sunshine. Good evening.

:01:04. > :01:05.Four British sailors returning home from the Caribbean are missing in

:01:06. > :01:09.the mid-Atlantic, after their yacht got into difficulties. The 40-foot

:01:10. > :01:12.vessel had been in Antigua for a regatta, and was heading back to

:01:13. > :01:15.Southampton. It's thought the boat has capsized. Contact was lost on

:01:16. > :01:21.Friday and today a search operation was called off. Here's Helen Fawkes.

:01:22. > :01:27.Concern is growing for the missing men. 21-year-old Andrew Bridge was

:01:28. > :01:35.skippering the boat, along with James Male from Southampton. As well

:01:36. > :01:38.as 56-year-old Paul Goslin and 52-year-old Steve Warren, both from

:01:39. > :01:42.Somerset, who were on board to increase their sea miles. On

:01:43. > :01:46.Thursday night, the Cheeki Rafiki sent a message to say it was

:01:47. > :01:49.beginning to take on water. The crew said they were keeping the situation

:01:50. > :01:57.stable, but hours later, all contact was lost. This is the Antigua

:01:58. > :02:00.Sailing Week regatta which the yacht had been taking part in. The British

:02:01. > :02:05.boat was being sailed back home. When the yacht got into trouble, the

:02:06. > :02:13.crew said they were diverting to the Azores. The US Coast Guard placed

:02:14. > :02:21.the Cheeki Rafiki here, just off Cape Cod.

:02:22. > :02:29.Weather conditions have been deteriorating many times. We have

:02:30. > :02:33.been seeing up to 20-foot seas and visibility is a mile at best. This

:02:34. > :02:36.Southampton marina was supposed to be the final destination. Now, the

:02:37. > :02:42.yacht will never complete its journey. It is devastating.

:02:43. > :02:44.Particularly with such little information available. They are

:02:45. > :02:48.quite remote from the situation. Although they have done all they

:02:49. > :02:52.can, they can't help but feel a little bit lost not knowing where

:02:53. > :02:55.their friends are. There is anger the search for the Cheeki Rafiki has

:02:56. > :02:58.been called off. The families believe the crew managed to board

:02:59. > :03:03.the liferaft which has several days of supplies. They say the four men

:03:04. > :03:07.are highly trained and strong-willed and it is plausible to suggest they

:03:08. > :03:11.will be able to survive for an extensive period of time. They are

:03:12. > :03:17.urging the Coast Guard to continue to look for the men so they can come

:03:18. > :03:20.home alive and well. The Governor of the Bank of England,

:03:21. > :03:23.Mark Carney, has given his strongest warning yet about the risks posed to

:03:24. > :03:27.Britain's economy by the booming housing market. He said there were

:03:28. > :03:31."deep structural problems" because not enough houses were being built.

:03:32. > :03:34.The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, says the Government may have

:03:35. > :03:37.to scale back its Help to Buy scheme, to cool the market. Here's

:03:38. > :03:41.our Business Correspondent, Emma Simpson.

:03:42. > :03:44.Homes and house prices, they are a national obsession. The Bank of

:03:45. > :03:50.England Governor says this market poses a threat to economic recovery.

:03:51. > :03:53.The main problem? He says we are not building enough homes. Although he

:03:54. > :03:59.can't do much about that, he can look at options to reduce the risks.

:04:00. > :04:02.We are vigilant about risks around the housing market, is to ensure

:04:03. > :04:05.that risks aren't building up for the medium-term, in other words the

:04:06. > :04:08.banks have enough capital when they underwrite these new mortgages and,

:04:09. > :04:16.very importantly, that individuals can afford those mortgages over the

:04:17. > :04:19.entire life of the mortgages. We don't want to build-up another big

:04:20. > :04:22.debt overhang that is going to hurt individuals, but is very much going

:04:23. > :04:26.to slow the economy in the medium-term.

:04:27. > :04:29.Few would disagree that there is a chronic shortage of houses. Just

:04:30. > :04:35.before the credit crunch, 177,000 properties were built in England.

:04:36. > :04:37.Last year, the figure was 112,000, although activity is significantly

:04:38. > :04:40.picking up but still nowhere near the 232,000 homes which experts

:04:41. > :04:48.reckon we need to be building every year.

:04:49. > :04:55.If buyers can't buy, builders won't build. Government schemes like Help

:04:56. > :04:59.to Buy have boosted this market. But should this initiative now be scaled

:05:00. > :05:05.back? The Government says it's open to suggestions from Mr Carney.

:05:06. > :05:08.I think if he says that we need to pare back on some of the Government

:05:09. > :05:13.schemes like Help to Buy, then we should do so. He is certainly right

:05:14. > :05:17.when he says the big long-term problem is we simply don't build

:05:18. > :05:20.enough homes in this country. The problem's here in the South

:05:21. > :05:24.East, especially London, where there is no shortage of buyers for flats

:05:25. > :05:30.in this expensive development. Huge demand is sending prices sky-high.

:05:31. > :05:35.The big question is how to keep the housing market grounded without

:05:36. > :05:40.derailing the wider recovery. It's a difficult balancing act for the Bank

:05:41. > :05:44.of England. And that's made more difficult by the market itself. For

:05:45. > :05:47.instance, in the first quarter of this year, prices in the capital

:05:48. > :05:52.were around 20% higher than their pre-crisis levels. But in the UK as

:05:53. > :06:00.a whole, prices were still roughly 2% lower. Will the banks step in to

:06:01. > :06:03.cool things down? The Governor has already signalled there will be no

:06:04. > :06:06.rise in interest rates this year. But it's clear he's keeping a very

:06:07. > :06:14.close watch on this important market.

:06:15. > :06:16.There are fears that floods which have already claimed more than 35

:06:17. > :06:21.lives and forced tens of thousands people out of their homes in the

:06:22. > :06:24.Balkans could get worse. The Bosnian city of Doboy and the Serbian

:06:25. > :06:31.capital Belgrade have been worst affected. From Obrenovac, just

:06:32. > :06:35.outside Belgrade, here's Guy Delauney.

:06:36. > :06:40.Tens of thousands of Serbians have been affected by these once in a

:06:41. > :06:46.century floods. And this town has had it worse than most. The rescue

:06:47. > :06:51.teams here working flat out to get to people. This is where the rescue

:06:52. > :06:57.efforts have been concentrated, in the town of Obrenovac. As you can

:06:58. > :07:01.see, it is more or less completely submerged. Only a few people remain

:07:02. > :07:06.in their houses here, according to the authorities, but they are trying

:07:07. > :07:10.their best to get help to them, although everybody says it would be

:07:11. > :07:15.much better if they just left. The conditions are appalling. Three

:07:16. > :07:19.months worth of rain fell on Obrenovac in three days. Those with

:07:20. > :07:26.who have remained have been without power or fresh water. The emergency

:07:27. > :07:37.services are counting the hold-outs. They know they are likely to find

:07:38. > :07:40.bodies when the waters recede. The rescuers would say it is time to

:07:41. > :07:45.leave and they wish that more would follow this old man's example.

:07:46. > :07:48.TRANSLATION: Some people simply don't want to leave their homes. We

:07:49. > :07:53.are trying to convince them to leave, but it is very difficult.

:07:54. > :07:58.The river levels here dropped slightly over the weekend, but they

:07:59. > :08:02.are likely to rise again as floodwater pours down the river from

:08:03. > :08:07.Bosnia. The situation there is at least as bad. Landslides have swept

:08:08. > :08:12.away houses and disturbed land-mines left over from the conflict of the

:08:13. > :08:17.1990s. Croatia has been suffering, too. The river has flooded in the

:08:18. > :08:24.east and falling water levels may not prevent the riverbank collapsing

:08:25. > :08:27.in some places. A British military plane has been

:08:28. > :08:30.deployed in the search for more than 200 missing Nigerian schoolgirls.

:08:31. > :08:37.The aircraft set off from RAF Waddington this morning. The girls

:08:38. > :08:41.were taken from their school in the village of Chibok in the north east

:08:42. > :08:46.of the country last month. From the Nigerian capital Abuja, here's

:08:47. > :08:50.Gabriel Gatehouse. The international rescue effort is

:08:51. > :08:52.gathering pace. This morning, a British Sentinel reconnaissance

:08:53. > :08:57.aircraft took off from RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire en route

:08:58. > :09:01.to West Africa. It will be used to scan a vast area of north-eastern

:09:02. > :09:07.Nigeria in search for the missing schoolgirls. But so far, the only

:09:08. > :09:10.clue to their whereabouts comes from this video, released by Boko Haram

:09:11. > :09:15.last week, and almost certainly recorded a lot earlier. The girls

:09:16. > :09:20.are thought to have been split into smaller groups and no-one knows

:09:21. > :09:30.exactly where they are. This man's two nieces, aged 17 and 18, are

:09:31. > :09:33.among the abducted schoolgirls. When the video came out, he and his

:09:34. > :09:36.brothers searched the footage for their faces. They searched in vain.

:09:37. > :09:40.Because of the time lapse now, people are getting increasingly

:09:41. > :09:43.worried. They said they have been hearing about chances of rescue by

:09:44. > :09:46.international efforts and the others. Up till now, they haven't

:09:47. > :09:52.seen results so there is the worry, the tension is continuing, building

:09:53. > :09:57.up. Bring back our girls now! Every day,

:09:58. > :10:00.for almost three weeks now, these activists have been gathering in

:10:01. > :10:02.central Abuja helping to keep the story in the international headlines

:10:03. > :10:09.and, crucially, keeping up the pressure on the Nigerian government.

:10:10. > :10:13.Prior to this, the Nigerian government had relegated this

:10:14. > :10:17.abduction to the back-seat. We have seen them moving on with their daily

:10:18. > :10:21.activities. Having done this, we have had the Nigerian government now

:10:22. > :10:25.accept to take on the support that the US and UK had given and prior to

:10:26. > :10:29.our protest they had rejected this. In public, they are saying no stone

:10:30. > :10:32.will be left unturned in the search for the girls. The international

:10:33. > :10:36.component of this is limited to aerial surveillance and a handful of

:10:37. > :10:39.advisers here in Abuja. Privately, Western officials involved in those

:10:40. > :10:46.efforts say that the chances of rescuing the girls alive are very,

:10:47. > :10:50.very slim, indeed. Boko Haram has killed thousands of people since it

:10:51. > :10:52.came to prominence five years ago. Yesterday, West African leaders

:10:53. > :10:57.pledged to redouble their efforts to combat the group. Attempts at a

:10:58. > :11:05.military solution have so far proven unsuccessful.

:11:06. > :11:08.Police in Turkey are reported to have detained up to 24 people for

:11:09. > :11:13.questioning, following the mining disaster in the town of Soma that

:11:14. > :11:16.has now claimed more than 300 lives. It's believed executives from the

:11:17. > :11:19.company which owns the mine are among those being held. The disaster

:11:20. > :11:26.has led to widespread protests across Turkey, surrounding concerns

:11:27. > :11:29.about safety in the mining industry. Arsenal have been basking in the

:11:30. > :11:32.both the glory of their first trophy in nearly a decade, and the summery

:11:33. > :11:37.sunshine this afternoon, as the team paraded the FA Cup before fans in

:11:38. > :11:40.North London. And this on the same day the manager Arsene Wenger

:11:41. > :11:51.confirmed his future with the club. Daniel Boettcher has the story.

:11:52. > :11:57.Party time in North London, blue skies, a blazing sun and a day to

:11:58. > :12:05.celebrate for fans who have waited so long for this. Nine years without

:12:06. > :12:11.a trophy, all that changed yesterday. Today, they were gathered

:12:12. > :12:16.in their thousands outside the Emirates Stadium at the start of a

:12:17. > :12:20.parade to celebrate FA Cup victory. Who would be a football fan?

:12:21. > :12:24.Emotionally drained, hung over, no sleep, brilliant. We have waited a

:12:25. > :12:29.long while for today. It was coming. It took us a hell of a long time to

:12:30. > :12:35.get there. We fly from Grenada to see the final. We love it. This is

:12:36. > :12:41.my son. He loves Arsenal. We will always win again next year. We are

:12:42. > :12:45.going to do it. This is the catalyst. It could have ended so

:12:46. > :12:49.differently at Wembley. Hull City went two ahead. More anxious times

:12:50. > :12:53.for Arsenal until a free-kick began to reduce the deficit. And the

:12:54. > :12:58.winning goal from Aaron Ramsey came in extra time. Supporters had been

:12:59. > :13:04.put through the mill once again, but today, cheers and applause for the

:13:05. > :13:08.players as the Parade made its way to Islington Town Hall. This is a

:13:09. > :13:12.day to forget the long wait, to enjoy the moment, to celebrate

:13:13. > :13:15.success. A win that the manager Arsene Wenger has described as an

:13:16. > :13:22.important moment in the life of this team. It is, he hopes, a turning

:13:23. > :13:27.point for Arsenal. Today he thanked the supporters. It finished well. It

:13:28. > :13:34.is a fantastic feeling for everybody to see what a great win it is. I

:13:35. > :13:37.would like to thank all the fans. Later, the Parade headed back to the

:13:38. > :13:43.Emirates Stadium where there is now a new addition to the trophy

:13:44. > :13:46.cabinet. And there was another open-top bus

:13:47. > :13:50.parade in Perth, as St Johnstone showed off the Scottish Cup. It's

:13:51. > :13:57.the club's first major trophy in its 130-year history. They beat Dundee

:13:58. > :14:00.United 2-0 yesterday. Great Britain's women have won their

:14:01. > :14:04.second ever individual European gymnastics title. Rebecca Downie

:14:05. > :14:06.took gold in the uneven bars at the European Artistic Gymnastics

:14:07. > :14:12.Championships in Bulgaria, finishing ahead of the Russian Olympic

:14:13. > :14:15.champion Aliya Mustafina. The 22-year-old from Nottingham joins

:14:16. > :14:21.Beth Tweddle as the only British women ever to win an individual

:14:22. > :14:24.title. Stars of the small screen are

:14:25. > :14:27.gathering tonight for the annual BAFTA Awards. The Channel 4 drama

:14:28. > :14:31.Southcliffe leads the nominations with four. The BBC's Strictly Come

:14:32. > :14:35.Dancing and the Graham Norton show are also up for awards. Lizo Mzimba

:14:36. > :14:42.is at the Theatre Royal in London's Drury Lane for us now. Lizo.

:14:43. > :14:51.Yes, this is the evening celebrating the very best television of 2013 in

:14:52. > :15:00.all areas, from Gogglebox to Great British Bake Off. Broadchurch is

:15:01. > :15:03.expected to do particularly well here tonight. Tonight could see

:15:04. > :15:08.dramas which didn't have the same public impact being celebrated, such

:15:09. > :15:12.as The Village or Southcliffe on Channel 4. In entertainment,

:15:13. > :15:15.Strictly Come Dancing has its first nomination in six years. Many will

:15:16. > :15:19.be thinking that it would be particularly fitting for it to win

:15:20. > :15:23.tonight because that will be honouring Sir Bruce Forsyth's final

:15:24. > :15:28.series as host of the Saturday night show. Two female performers are

:15:29. > :15:32.being honoured for their outstanding contribution to television over the

:15:33. > :15:39.past five decades. Cilla Black will be given a special award and Julie

:15:40. > :15:43.Walters will receive the highest accolade that BAFTA can bestow, she

:15:44. > :15:47.will be receiving the BAFTA Fellowship. Thank you.

:15:48. > :15:51.There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel, and I'll be

:15:52. > :15:53.back with the late news. Now on BBC One it's time for the news where you

:15:54. > :15:54.are.
