:01:19. > :01:21.The Education Secretary Michael Gove has apologised to the Prime Minister

:01:22. > :01:26.after what Downing Street described as "unauthorised" comments to

:01:27. > :01:29.the media about the Government's approach to tackling extremism -

:01:30. > :01:33.comments which resulted in a bitter public row with the

:01:34. > :01:38.At the same time, Mrs May's special advisor has resigned

:01:39. > :01:43.It comes two days before the inspection reports are published

:01:44. > :01:46.into claims that Muslim hardliners tried to take control

:01:47. > :01:58.Our political correspondent, Chris Mason, reports.

:01:59. > :02:04.Earlier today, Michael Gove was trying to change the subject. Yes,

:02:05. > :02:08.he was talking about schools, but not directly about this row. The

:02:09. > :02:11.last couple of weeks have been a fascinating time in the education

:02:12. > :02:16.debate. His public spat with the Home Secretary was over this

:02:17. > :02:21.question - how do you combat the extremism that leads people born

:02:22. > :02:26.here to carry out terrorist attacks? The row broke out because of the

:02:27. > :02:30.allegations still hovering over 21 schools in Birmingham, the

:02:31. > :02:34.suggestion there has been a takeover plot there by hardline Muslims. On

:02:35. > :02:39.Wednesday, the previously private views of Michael Gove and Theresa

:02:40. > :02:44.May burst into the open. The Education Secretary had lunch at the

:02:45. > :02:47.Times last Monday and told them some had been very wary of drawing

:02:48. > :02:53.attention to the alleged events in Birmingham as it might be seen as

:02:54. > :02:56.Islamophobic. In reply, the Home Secretary wrote him a letter asking,

:02:57. > :03:03."Is it true the Department of Education was warned in 2010? If so,

:03:04. > :03:09.why did nobody act?" There was more. This woman, the Home Secretary's

:03:10. > :03:12.special advisor, told me the Department for Education has got a

:03:13. > :03:18.problem and they are trying to make it someone else's. This former

:03:19. > :03:22.special advisor said she had broke a golden rule. It is vital that

:03:23. > :03:27.special advisors don't become the story and that is the mistake she

:03:28. > :03:30.has made here. This is a story about manoeuvring for the Tory leadership

:03:31. > :03:36.between Michael Gove and Theresa May and that is why Fiona has ended up

:03:37. > :03:41.losing her job. And this is not yet the end of the matter. After today's

:03:42. > :03:45.humiliating apology, Michael Gove has to face questions from MPs on

:03:46. > :03:50.Monday. Chris Mason joins me now. Chris,

:03:51. > :03:54.there is some conclusion to this particular row today but it isn't

:03:55. > :03:57.the end of the matter, is it? Quite. This was a genuine disagreement

:03:58. > :04:01.between two senior Cabinet Ministers, not just on any day, but

:04:02. > :04:05.the day of the Queen's Speech when the Government hoped to set out its

:04:06. > :04:08.plan for the year ahead and yet this ended up dominating as a story.

:04:09. > :04:12.Michael Gove has argued that he thinks that Whitehall has been

:04:13. > :04:16.reluctant to confront extremism unless it turns into terrorism. In

:04:17. > :04:20.effect, the Home Office was saying that is simply rubbish, you are

:04:21. > :04:24.trying to dump the problem on others. Tonight, both Ministers are

:04:25. > :04:28.wounded. The Prime Minister will hope that his pretty swift response

:04:29. > :04:32.to this in disciplining the two Ministers will help draw a veil over

:04:33. > :04:37.what has been a damaging outbreak of, well, lacking good behaviour at

:04:38. > :04:41.the top of the Government. But, as you say, questions still to come.

:04:42. > :04:45.The inspectors, the school inspectors publish their reports

:04:46. > :04:46.into those schools on Monday. More really tricky questions for Michael

:04:47. > :04:50.Gove then. Thank you. FIFA's decision to award

:04:51. > :04:54.the 2022 World Cup to Qatar is under It's emerged that Sony - one

:04:55. > :04:59.of its major sponsors - has called for an investigation following

:05:00. > :05:03.claims the process to award Qatar New emails published in the

:05:04. > :05:09.Sunday Times - and seen by the BBC - suggest top level meetings between

:05:10. > :05:13.the man behind the claims of corruption, Mohammed Bin Hammam,

:05:14. > :05:16.and senior officials From Sao Paulo, our

:05:17. > :05:26.Sports Editor, David Bond, reports. Sepp Blatter is used to all this by

:05:27. > :05:31.now. REPORTER: Are you worried about more

:05:32. > :05:35.allegations of corruption? It was business as usual for the

:05:36. > :05:40.FIFA President as the men who run world football gathered in Sao Paulo

:05:41. > :05:44.today. Thousands of miles from the Middle East, questions about Qatar

:05:45. > :05:49.hang in the air. And now even the sponsors are worried. Tonight, Sony,

:05:50. > :05:53.one of FIFA's biggest backers, called for the governing body to

:05:54. > :05:56.carry out an appropriate investigation. Again, the

:05:57. > :06:00.allegations centre on the role played by Qatar's former top

:06:01. > :06:03.allegations centre on the role Hammam. Although he has

:06:09. > :06:12.allegations centre on the role help his country win the vote. Qatar

:06:13. > :06:17.deny he played any official or unofficial role in their successful

:06:18. > :06:25.bid. However, the paper says he met Russian President Vladimir Putin in

:06:26. > :06:28.the Kremlin to discuss bilateral relations in sport a month before

:06:29. > :06:36.the vote. It claims he brokered Government level talks for

:06:37. > :06:42.Thailand's Worawi Makudi. He denies receiving any personal concession.

:06:43. > :06:48.And it's alleged that European football boss Michel Platini was

:06:49. > :06:53.among nine executives introduced to members of the Qatari Royal Family.

:06:54. > :06:57.For those running FIFA, all the noise about Qatar is the last thing

:06:58. > :07:00.they needed as they prepare for a difficult World Cup here in Brazil.

:07:01. > :07:04.But the claims aren't going away. Now they need to convince the world

:07:05. > :07:08.that they are treating them seriously.

:07:09. > :07:12.Britain's most senior football official admits it's been another

:07:13. > :07:19.tough week, but he says FIFA is changing. Mohammed Bin Hammam has

:07:20. > :07:25.been banned for life by FIFA and many of these other people are no

:07:26. > :07:30.longer there as well. There is a lot of very good people at FIFA, they

:07:31. > :07:34.are only interested in furthering the game of football. FIFA don't get

:07:35. > :07:38.enough credit for what they do throughout the world. Amid the calls

:07:39. > :07:43.for a revote, in Qatar, they are pressing on with their plans. And

:07:44. > :07:45.unless something more concrete emerges, the World Cup is likely to

:07:46. > :07:51.be here in eight years' time. The new Ukrainian President,

:07:52. > :07:54.Petro Poroshenko, has been sworn Mr Poroshenko said he would work to

:07:55. > :08:00.make Ukraine a full member of the European Union - and he

:08:01. > :08:03.pledged that Crimea - which was annexed by Russia in March - would

:08:04. > :08:07.always be Ukrainian territory. Russia's President Putin has

:08:08. > :08:10.ordered that security be strengthened along Russia's borders

:08:11. > :08:13.with Ukraine. In Kiev, this was a day of pomp

:08:14. > :08:24.for a new President. Petro Poroshenko is the billionaire

:09:45. > :09:50.victorious today." Their commander rejected any talk

:09:51. > :09:54.of peace. TRANSLATION: If Putin and Poroshenko

:09:55. > :10:00.do a deal behind our backs, we will still carry on fighting

:10:01. > :10:05.until we reach western Ukraine President Poroshenko may have

:10:06. > :10:13.presented a peace plan, there may be some signs of diplomatic activity,

:10:14. > :10:19.but eastern Ukraine is awash with Ending this conflict

:10:20. > :10:25.isn't going to be easy. For Ukraine's new leader, there is

:10:26. > :10:29.no greater challenge than to deliver peace and prevent his country

:10:30. > :10:37.splitting apart. Malaysian authorities have confirmed

:10:38. > :10:40.that a body found in the jungle IS that of the missing British

:10:41. > :10:44.backpacker Gareth Huntley. Mr Huntley disappeared last month

:11:11. > :11:13.Madeleine went missing in From there,

:11:14. > :11:21.Jon Kay sent this report. After a week searching this

:11:22. > :11:25.Portuguese wasteland, British officers are now working

:11:26. > :11:30.through the weekend. But their investigation goes beyond

:11:31. > :11:34.the scanning and the digging. The authorities here now say it's

:11:35. > :11:39.likely that several local suspects will be questioned about the

:11:40. > :11:43.disappearance of Madeleine McCann We understand it will happen

:11:44. > :11:52.in next couple of weeks They have been focussing

:12:17. > :12:20.would actually have learnt... Robert Murat was

:12:21. > :12:23.the first suspect in this case. He was later cleared

:12:24. > :12:26.of any involvement, but still lives with the stigma and given the

:12:27. > :12:30.massive media interest, he believes future suspects shouldn't be

:12:31. > :12:35.identified unless they are charged. I would hope those people would be

:12:36. > :12:38.protected, but if they aren't protected and their names come out,

:12:39. > :12:43.that can be devastating. But before any suspects are

:12:44. > :12:47.questioned, next week two more areas of this resort are set

:12:48. > :12:50.to be searched. A boy has died and his father is

:12:59. > :13:04.in County Antrim The father has been airlifted

:13:05. > :13:08.to hospital in Belfast. Health and safety officials

:13:09. > :13:11.are investigating. With all the sport, here's

:13:12. > :13:18.John Watson at the BBC Sport Centre. England are playing Honduras in

:13:19. > :13:22.Miami this evening, in what is the team's final warm-up match before

:13:23. > :13:25.the World Cup begins next Thursday. Our Chief Sports Correspondant Dan

:13:26. > :13:39.Roan is there following the team. England came here to Miami seeking

:13:40. > :13:48.extreme weather conditions, to prepare themselves for what lies

:13:49. > :13:55.ahead. What they wouldn't have been bracing themselves for is an

:13:56. > :13:58.electrical storm of the one that has just passed close by the stadium

:13:59. > :14:03.which has meant play has been suspended halfway through the first

:14:04. > :14:12.half. It is still goalless between England and Honduras. Raheem

:14:13. > :14:16.Sterling was sent off in that game on Wednesday so Roy Hodgson has

:14:17. > :14:21.reverted back to the side that beat Peru at Wembley. It is the side

:14:22. > :14:25.expected to take the field against Italy in a week's time. They leave

:14:26. > :14:27.for the airport straight after this game. Play here is due to resume in

:14:28. > :14:34.the next half an hour. Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien made

:14:35. > :14:37.history at Epsom this afternoon as his son Joseph rode Australia to

:14:38. > :14:39.victory in the Derby. The 11 to 8 favourite finished ahead

:14:40. > :14:50.of Kingston Hill and Romsdal. The Epsom Derby has become

:14:51. > :14:54.unmissable and this sport of kings has one very fierce royal supporter.

:14:55. > :14:58.The Queen had dashed back from France to be here for what the

:14:59. > :15:02.bookies had deemed a one-horse race. COMMENTARY: There they go, the gates

:15:03. > :15:06.clatter open. Reputation rather than results have made Australia the

:15:07. > :15:11.red-hot favourite. Aidan O'Brien had called him the best horse he's ever

:15:12. > :15:15.trained, some were sceptical but two-and-a-half minutes was all it

:15:16. > :15:19.took to win over the doubters as O'Brien's son steered the colt clear

:15:20. > :15:22.of Kingston Hill with just over a length to spare.

:15:23. > :15:26.COMMENTARY: These two fight out the Derby. Australia from Kingston Hill.

:15:27. > :15:33.Australia has won it! The favourite brings it home.

:15:34. > :15:38.You have to stay, you have to have pace and be well-balanced. We always

:15:39. > :15:42.thought that he had everything. He showed today that he has. Amidst the

:15:43. > :15:46.hype, the hot favourite has delivered here. Australia's victory

:15:47. > :15:49.makes it an historic day for Aidan O'Brien. He becomes the first

:15:50. > :15:52.trainer to win this race three times in a row.

:15:53. > :15:55.England coach Stuart Lancaster said he was 'frustrated' and 'proud'

:15:56. > :15:58.in equal measure as his team came close to victory in

:15:59. > :16:04.A late try secured a 20 points to 15 win for the All Blacks, and a 1-0

:16:05. > :16:11.New Zealand have set the standard, 14 wins

:16:12. > :16:17.New Zealand have set the standard, Eden Park in 20 years. England were

:16:18. > :16:25.the last team to beat the All Blacks and a win would take a lot of heart.

:16:26. > :16:27.Chris Robshaw showed it only for Nonu to hold England back. Freddie

:16:28. > :16:38.Burns Nonu to hold England back. Freddie

:16:39. > :16:43.ahead, but New Zealand made it 9-9. Both teams went in search of the

:16:44. > :16:48.try. The game was bossed by the boot and the situation for England

:16:49. > :16:53.worsened when Yarde was sin-binned. Further penalties were traded to

:16:54. > :16:58.make it 15-15 before New Zealand showed the qualities that made them

:16:59. > :17:01.World Champions. England's defence finally breached with two minutes

:17:02. > :17:04.remaining. Despite the defeat, there is a togetherness in this England

:17:05. > :17:11.side and they will believe they remain a force in this Test series.

:17:12. > :17:13.Nico Rosberg will start on Pole for tomorrow's Canadian Grand Prix as

:17:14. > :17:18.Hamilton had been fastest in practice in Montreal, but the German

:17:19. > :17:26.Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel will line up in third on the grid.

:17:27. > :17:31.That is all the sport for now. That is all from me for now. Good

:17:32. > :17:48.night. Good evening. We have been watching

:17:49. > :17:53.a band of rain move north across the UK today. It started off heavy and

:17:54. > :17:56.thundery in the south. Some sunshine followed but as always did some

:17:57. > :17:57.thundery showers across the
