:00:07. > :00:14.Tonight, a leaked report, details numerous problems of some schools in

:00:15. > :00:18.Birmingham, after allegations of Islamist extremism. A draft document

:00:19. > :00:23.from the education funding agency said there was inadequate governance

:00:24. > :00:27.and boys and girls were segregated in some classes. Labour says Theresa

:00:28. > :00:31.May broke the Ministerial Code in a row about how the Government should

:00:32. > :00:36.respond to Islamist extremism. Tonight, Ofsted is preparing to

:00:37. > :00:40.publish reports into 21 schools at the heart of the allegations. Also

:00:41. > :00:47.in the programme - the former head of the Army in Egypt has been sworn

:00:48. > :00:51.in as the country's new President. More sponsors voice their concerns

:00:52. > :00:56.about allegations of corruption in Qatar's bid to host the World Cup.

:00:57. > :00:58.And England's footballers touch down in Rio, ahead of the current World

:00:59. > :01:21.Cup campaign. A very good evening to you. New

:01:22. > :01:25.details have emerged a draft report into the Birmingham schools at the

:01:26. > :01:30.heart of allegations of Islamist extremism. The findings by the

:01:31. > :01:35.education funding agency concerning Park View Educational Trust say

:01:36. > :01:40.there was inadequate governance and in one schoolboys and girls were

:01:41. > :01:44.segregated. Ofsted is preparing to publish reports into 21 schools in

:01:45. > :01:47.Birmingham. Labour is accusing the Home Secretary, Theresa May, of

:01:48. > :01:51.breaking the Ministerial Code in a row surrounding the Government's

:01:52. > :01:54.response. From Birmingham our political correspondent has the

:01:55. > :01:58.story. These Birmingham schools are among

:01:59. > :02:03.those at the heart of a contentious inquiry into an alleged takeover

:02:04. > :02:07.plot by hardline Muslims. Tomorrow, Ofsted's chief inspector will give

:02:08. > :02:12.his verdict on whether there's any truth in those claims and Ofsted

:02:13. > :02:16.reports will be published. So far 21 schools have been inspected. Of

:02:17. > :02:21.those, five will be placed in special measures. One already is.

:02:22. > :02:24.There are several other investigations pending which

:02:25. > :02:28.reflects the level of concern. It is grooming and that is significant.

:02:29. > :02:33.There is a significant grooming going on in these schools, away from

:02:34. > :02:35.the ethos and the parents of these children and away from what the

:02:36. > :02:39.majority of the community is concerned about. The Ofsted report

:02:40. > :02:45.for this school has already been leaked. It found too little was

:02:46. > :02:50.being done to protect students from extremist views. They could be left

:02:51. > :02:54.vulnerable to the risks of radicalisation. The governors reject

:02:55. > :02:59.the report and say Ofsted tried to find failings. They were not there

:03:00. > :03:05.to look at how good the school was doing. They were there to fail the

:03:06. > :03:08.school. That is why myself as a governor, pupils work extremely

:03:09. > :03:13.hard. We are so angry about it. If you are going to judge us, at least

:03:14. > :03:19.for the right reason. The BBC has obtained a copy of a draft report

:03:20. > :03:21.into the school's run by the Park View Educational Trust, which has

:03:22. > :03:38.been at the centre of the allegations. It says:

:03:39. > :03:43.The trust has rejected these suggestions and question the

:03:44. > :03:48.accuracy of the report. All of this has caused a split right

:03:49. > :03:50.at the heart of Government. Two senior ministers have publicly

:03:51. > :03:54.criticised each other senior ministers have publicly

:03:55. > :03:59.they have handled the issue. It has meant a day of negative headlines.

:04:00. > :04:02.Labour wants to know about the role of Theresa May in leaking a letter,

:04:03. > :04:07.raising questions about the Education Secretary. We so far heard

:04:08. > :04:11.nothing from the Home Secretary, although it looks pretty clear she

:04:12. > :04:14.has breached the Ministerial Code by writing and authorising the

:04:15. > :04:18.publication of this letter. The Prime Minister is responsible for

:04:19. > :04:22.enforcing the Ministerial Code. He needs to act. There's been a

:04:23. > :04:26.disciplinary matter which the Prime Minister has dealt with in a firm,

:04:27. > :04:27.clear way. There'll be discipline in the Government. The main thing, as

:04:28. > :04:32.you said at the beginning the Government. The main thing, as

:04:33. > :04:35.programme, is the issue itself. It is tackling extremism in schools. On

:04:36. > :04:38.that, there's more to come. Tomorrow, following Ofsted's

:04:39. > :04:42.official view, there'll be statements in Parliament about what

:04:43. > :04:45.has happened in Birmingham and the Government's response to it. These

:04:46. > :04:48.schools and therefore this Government's response to it. These

:04:49. > :04:58.faces yet further scrutiny. And our education correspondent is

:04:59. > :05:02.with me now. What is your assessment of the findings in this draft

:05:03. > :05:07.report? We heard some of the details of this report there. There is a lot

:05:08. > :05:10.of detail there. A lot makes a lot of very interesting and to some

:05:11. > :05:13.people disturbing reading. It says, for example, at park view school,

:05:14. > :05:16.there was insufficient evidence that they were making the school

:05:17. > :05:21.attractive to all faiths. It is not a faith school. One teacher said

:05:22. > :05:24.there was an Islamic focus that went too far. There was concern about the

:05:25. > :05:30.vetting procedures for speakers coming in. One speaker known for his

:05:31. > :05:36.extremist views addressed children at the school. It is not clear what

:05:37. > :05:42.he said. In another group in the -- school in the group, staff said they

:05:43. > :05:49.were banned from discussing sexual orientation. That affected English,

:05:50. > :05:54.RE, art. The trust, as Alex said, has in the past denied claims of the

:05:55. > :06:00.nature of the sort made here. We are going to get tomorrow afternoon the

:06:01. > :06:05.reports from the other education watchdog, Ofsted and the list of

:06:06. > :06:11.recommendations to Michael Gove. I think though there'll be a furious

:06:12. > :06:15.debate about whether this amounts to extremism or radicalisation or

:06:16. > :06:20.whether it is a form of religious conservatism, withsy a challenge to

:06:21. > :06:23.liberal views, but is not political. We will get the reports out

:06:24. > :06:28.tomorrow. There's no underestimating the anger there is in some quarters

:06:29. > :06:35.in Birmingham and it may be that is not resolved tomorrow. Thank you.

:06:36. > :06:40.The former chief of the Egyptian army, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, has been

:06:41. > :06:45.sworn in as Egypt's new President. The retired field marshal overthrew

:06:46. > :06:49.Mohamed Morsi last July and has been pursuing a crackdown against his

:06:50. > :06:53.Muslim Brotherhood party ever since. We have this report from Cairo and

:06:54. > :06:57.it does contain some flash photography. Touching down to take

:06:58. > :07:00.control. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived under

:07:01. > :07:08.tight security. He has already been the target of two assassination

:07:09. > :07:13.attempts. He took the Oath of Office almost a year after ousting Egypt's

:07:14. > :07:19.first freely elected President, Mohamed Morsi.

:07:20. > :07:23.A presiding official at the swearing in said that was not a coup, it with

:07:24. > :07:28.us the will of the people. The new President has been embraced

:07:29. > :07:32.by leaders from the Middle East. He needs their cash for his crumbling

:07:33. > :07:40.economy. They need him to keep a tight grip on the Arab world's most

:07:41. > :07:46.populist nation. President Sisi said this was a

:07:47. > :07:49.unique moment in Egypt's history, the first peaceful democratic

:07:50. > :07:54.transfer of power. His election victory was flawed,

:07:55. > :08:02.according to some international observers, because of a climate of

:08:03. > :08:06.fear and repression. Down town in Tahrir Square,

:08:07. > :08:11.supporters were giving thanks for Egypt's new Pharaoh.

:08:12. > :08:18."Sisi, you are a Lord," this woman said. "You are good and respectable.

:08:19. > :08:24.You are a symbol like the para mid-s." Supporters gathered here.

:08:25. > :08:29.They believe that Sisi can deliver stability and growth after years of

:08:30. > :08:35.turmoil. They see him as their save your. Experts -- saviour. Experts

:08:36. > :08:39.warn this could fade fast if he cannot deliver.

:08:40. > :08:45.And there are real concerns about what direction he will take.

:08:46. > :08:51.Opponents believe Egypt's latest military strongman will follow the

:08:52. > :08:56.well-trodded path of authoritarian rule.

:08:57. > :08:59.Reports from Pakistan say Karachi International Airport has come under

:09:00. > :09:03.attack. At least five people are thought to have been killed,

:09:04. > :09:08.including security staff after gunmen opened fire and threw

:09:09. > :09:15.grenades inside the old terminal building. The Army has sealed off

:09:16. > :09:20.the area. Tens of thousands of Sikhs have marched through central London

:09:21. > :09:25.to commemorate the storming of the golden temple at Amritsar, by the

:09:26. > :09:32.Indian army 30 years ago. They are demanding the deaths of Sikhs in

:09:33. > :09:36.rioting back in 1984 be recognised as genocide, saying what they say

:09:37. > :09:39.was India's failure to prevent the killings.

:09:40. > :09:48.Swords drawn and wearing the orange of what they call "the Sikh Nation,"

:09:49. > :09:55.British Sikhs marched through London. Never before have they

:09:56. > :10:00.gathered in such numbers to protest against the massacre of searchings.

:10:01. > :10:04.They are calling it India's hidden genocide and demanding justice for

:10:05. > :10:08.the thousands of Sikhs killed in 1984. The passion is unmistakable.

:10:09. > :10:14.It is a hurt, that after 30 years, will not go away.

:10:15. > :10:19.The spectacular golden temple in Amritsar is the holiest of Sikh

:10:20. > :10:24.shrines. The Indian army used force to remove the militants occupying it

:10:25. > :10:29.in days of bloody fighting. In revenge, the Prime Minister, Indira

:10:30. > :10:34.Ghandi, was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards. That sparked

:10:35. > :10:40.riots, especially in Delhi, in which 3,000 Sikhs were killed.

:10:41. > :10:45.This man was 12 when he witnessed his brother's death at the hands of

:10:46. > :10:54.a mob. When they brought him out and they had an iron rod, so they, the

:10:55. > :11:00.iron was on the head and he fell down and they three or four times

:11:01. > :11:04.put the iron and he died. Sikh leaders say only a full, open

:11:05. > :11:10.enquiry will give their community a sense of closure.

:11:11. > :11:14.Women raped. Men burnt alive. How can anybody get over any of that

:11:15. > :11:18.without there being a full inquiry into this. Those perpetrators are

:11:19. > :11:23.still walking free on the streets of India today. India says its action

:11:24. > :11:28.in Amritsar was a last resort to save the country from

:11:29. > :11:37.destabilisation. British Sikhs insist the full story

:11:38. > :11:42.of 1984 has yet to be told. In Nigeria there are reports of

:11:43. > :11:48.continuing atrocities by the radical Islamist Group B oko Haram, who

:11:49. > :11:53.kidnapped 200 schoolgirls. Their fighters dominate many parts of the

:11:54. > :12:00.north-east, despite a year-long offensive by the Nigerian military T

:12:01. > :12:04.latest reported attacks are in the Gwoza Hills. 200 people have been

:12:05. > :12:08.killed in the last two weeks. Our correspondent spoke to one witness

:12:09. > :12:14.of the aftermath of an attack and sent us this report.

:12:15. > :12:21.Boko Haram on the ram paining in north-east Nigeria. For the past

:12:22. > :12:25.week they have been terrorising villages near the border. There are

:12:26. > :12:29.reports of hundreds dead. Those who could headed to these mountains.

:12:30. > :12:34.Fighters chasing and shooting them as they fled. I got through to a man

:12:35. > :12:38.who witnessed the recent attack on his village. From the mountain, he

:12:39. > :12:41.told me homes were still on fire. What happened to the dead people?

:12:42. > :12:58.Have they been buried? In shallow graves?

:12:59. > :13:08.Yes. Can you see any soldiers?

:13:09. > :13:15.Nigeria's military flying over the forest, where Boko Haram has bases.

:13:16. > :13:18.It is where more than 200 schoolgirls were initially taken

:13:19. > :13:25.after being abducted. This is what we mains of their boarding school.

:13:26. > :13:30.The girls are still missing. These days this place too is a stronghold.

:13:31. > :13:36.People get the latest information from their relatives back homes in

:13:37. > :13:41.the villages. A lot of black and white flags

:13:42. > :13:44.installed, with Arabic writing, indicating, this is our

:13:45. > :13:52.headquarters, we are in control here. Other small villages, again,

:13:53. > :13:58.around have one or two flags flying. As of now, what they believe is this

:13:59. > :14:02.place... The military say it is doing its best. The Government

:14:03. > :14:14.doesn't want to say much about the deadly attacks.

:14:15. > :14:20.Reports came in from sources. What I know is whatever is, or should be

:14:21. > :14:26.done by the Nigerian military and police and so forth is being done.

:14:27. > :14:31.It is being done. When the President ordered the military offensive, he

:14:32. > :14:36.caused shock by revealing that parts of the north-east were no longer

:14:37. > :14:43.under control of the state. A year on and fighters are still holding

:14:44. > :14:46.territory in Nigery ya as they -- Nigeria.

:14:47. > :14:50.They continue their brutal campaign of violence.

:14:51. > :14:56.An unprecedented meeting has taken place at the Vatican involving Pope

:14:57. > :14:56.Francis, Shimon Peres and the Palestinian President, Mahmoud

:14:57. > :15:03.Abbas. They came together at Palestinian President, Mahmoud

:15:04. > :15:06.for peace in the Middle East. The pope says he will not become

:15:07. > :15:09.directly involved in any negotiations, but hopes the meeting

:15:10. > :15:16.may improve the atmosphere between the two sides.

:15:17. > :15:19.Five of the football World Cup's six corporate sponsors have expressed

:15:20. > :15:28.concern about claims of corruption in awarding the 2022 tournament to

:15:29. > :15:34.Qatar. Our chief sports correspondent is in

:15:35. > :15:39.Rio for us now. How serious is this becoming for the Governing body,

:15:40. > :15:45.FIFA? Well, this feels like it could be a genuinely significant moment in

:15:46. > :15:51.this saga. FIFA is expected to earn ?1 billion from its top backers,

:15:52. > :15:54.this next World Cup cycle. When five go public with concerns over how the

:15:55. > :16:01.right to stage the World Cup in eight years' time was won, the

:16:02. > :16:05.Governing body tends to listen. Four more joined Sony, in not only

:16:06. > :16:11.expressing their concern, but also saying there has to be a thorough

:16:12. > :16:21.investigation, after the Sunday Times published further allegation

:16:22. > :16:27.of wrong doing. Qatar's former top football official

:16:28. > :16:33.stands accuses of holding deals to win the deal in eight years time.

:16:34. > :16:38.FIFA are desperate to focus on the football. This feels real now. As

:16:39. > :16:44.the top teams in the world arrive here, they are having to fend off

:16:45. > :16:50.allegations of corruption. Well, when England arrived in Rio

:16:51. > :16:56.today, the manager, Roy Hodgson, said the team spirit's was very,

:16:57. > :17:00.very good. They have under a week to acclimatise.

:17:01. > :17:08.Every four years, the routine is the same - blinking into the morning

:17:09. > :17:13.sun, the men tasked with carrying a nation's footballing hopes finally

:17:14. > :17:17.enter the World Cup. This time there is a calm about England. Despite

:17:18. > :17:22.some robust challenges in the final warm-up, they have come away from

:17:23. > :17:27.Miami's training camp with only one injury.

:17:28. > :17:34.Their manager says they are ready. The most important thing is we are

:17:35. > :17:39.here, all in one piece and our mood, our optimism has not been dented at

:17:40. > :17:42.all. Now it is talking over and playing from here. The security

:17:43. > :17:45.presence around the England team is high. The Government is clearly

:17:46. > :17:50.taking no chances. The England team are making their way to their hotel

:17:51. > :17:53.in Rio, where the FA hope it will be the perfect balance of privacy but

:17:54. > :17:59.also simulation. The military were out in force for

:18:00. > :18:04.the team's arrival, at the Royal Tulip Hotel. England fans' former

:18:05. > :18:08.reputations perhaps preceding them. For the ones who have already

:18:09. > :18:13.arrived, it was a journey worth making. The World Cup! Brazil!

:18:14. > :18:17.Couldn't think of anything better than coming out here and spending

:18:18. > :18:22.all my money. It is the dream. I wanted to go to a World Cup. As soon

:18:23. > :18:26.as I knew it was in Brazil, I whatted to do it. Play -- I had to

:18:27. > :18:31.do it. Players were quickly out on their balconies.

:18:32. > :18:36.To their left, the less glamorous part of Rio - the biggest slum,

:18:37. > :18:41.perched on the mountainside. To their right, there is this.

:18:42. > :18:45.As England aim to be good tourists, this spot will be a good place for

:18:46. > :18:49.the squad to take a stroll over the coming weeks and provide perfect

:18:50. > :18:54.thinking time for a manager who has some big decisions to make.

:18:55. > :18:55.That's it
