:02:44. > :02:44.Muslims, Shi'ites and Sunnis, are recoiling

:03:47. > :03:55.Here's our Political Correspondent, Robin Brant.

:03:56. > :04:03.You want a man to joint? It wasn't just well-known entertainers

:04:04. > :04:09.involved in child abuse the '70s and # 0s. This politician was. It is

:04:10. > :04:14.claimed Sir Cyril Smith went to boys homes in Rochdale. At the time the

:04:15. > :04:17.Home Secretary Leon Brittan was passed details said to include

:04:18. > :04:21.claims about other Westminster figure, parts of it were handed to

:04:22. > :04:24.the proper authority, but some of those documents have since gone

:04:25. > :04:28.missing. Claims about a missing dossier were

:04:29. > :04:32.investigated last year, but now the Prime Minister has ordered a fresh

:04:33. > :04:36.look at that process. The top civil servant at the Home

:04:37. > :04:40.Office has announced a senior independent legal figure will assess

:04:41. > :04:43.whether the reviews conclusions remain sound We have to be

:04:44. > :04:48.transparent in this. The fact it is getting nearer to Westminster and

:04:49. > :04:52.nearer to politics makes it all the more imperative that no stone is

:04:53. > :04:57.left unturned: But a review of the review, with an as yet unnamed legal

:04:58. > :05:00.figure in charge is not enough for Labour We need a thorough review, it

:05:01. > :05:04.needs to be a proper review which gets at all the facts about what

:05:05. > :05:08.happened in the Home Office but we need something else. We need to get

:05:09. > :05:12.child protection experts and others to draw together all of the lessons,

:05:13. > :05:16.from what we have learned. Many a separate letter to the Home

:05:17. > :05:19.Affairs Select Committee the permanent secretary has reminded

:05:20. > :05:24.Parliament that last year's review found no record of specific

:05:25. > :05:29.allegations, of child sex abuse by prominent public figures.

:05:30. > :05:33.But with the backdrop of decades of abuse by Jimmy Savile and this

:05:34. > :05:36.week's conviction of Rolf Harris, the Prime Minister is sensitive to

:05:37. > :05:37.any suggestion of a cover up at the heart of Westminster three decades

:05:38. > :05:48.ago. There was more disappointment today

:05:49. > :05:50.in Britain's unhappy summer of sport when Mark Cavendish's hopes

:05:51. > :05:52.of winning the first stage of the Tour de France in Yorkshire

:05:53. > :05:55.ended with a dramatic crash. He suffered serious ligament damage

:05:56. > :05:58.to his shoulder near the finish Our sports correspondent Andy Swiss

:05:59. > :06:13.was watching the race. As Yorkshire welcomed the tour

:06:14. > :06:18.deFrance in huge numbers. After royal send off from the Duke

:06:19. > :06:21.and Duchess of Cambridge, the normally peaceful Deals were

:06:22. > :06:28.transformed into a see of spectators and a wall of noise. Any vantage

:06:29. > :06:33.point would do as under glorious sunshine the cyclists threaded their

:06:34. > :06:36.way along the 120 mile route. Yorkshire has embraced the tour in

:06:37. > :06:40.some style. This is today's finish line at Harrogate, and once again

:06:41. > :06:44.the crowds have flocked in their thousands, and what they are hoping

:06:45. > :06:51.for, is some British success. Those hopes of an opening stage win

:06:52. > :06:54.rested with Mark Cavendish. Harrogate the home town of his

:06:55. > :07:02.mother. The stage was set, but instead of joy there was agony. But

:07:03. > :07:05.there has been a crash. While Marcel Kittel went on to victory Cavendish

:07:06. > :07:10.was sprawled on the Tarmac in discomfort.

:07:11. > :07:14.He later said the crash was his own fault, that he than o gone for a gap

:07:15. > :07:17.that wasn't really there and the result was a dislocated shoulder and

:07:18. > :07:21.damaged ligaments. The watching Prime Minister's face said it all,

:07:22. > :07:26.an excruciating end to an extraordinary day. The crowds were

:07:27. > :07:31.incredible. Absolutely incredible. Second to none. Yeah, just a shame

:07:32. > :07:35.for Cav, obviously, in the final there. Would have been nice to have

:07:36. > :07:39.a British victory today, but that is racing. A decision will be made in

:07:40. > :07:44.the morning as to whether Cavendish can continue, but if he doesn't, his

:07:45. > :07:48.Tour will be over before it barely began. A day of pleasure for

:07:49. > :07:50.thousands of fans, ending in very personal pain.

:07:51. > :07:55.All the best Cav. The Palestinian teenager murdered

:07:56. > :07:57.in east Jerusalem in a suspected revenge attack was burned to death,

:07:58. > :07:59.according to officials. 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdeir was

:08:00. > :08:02.kidnapped and killed on Wednesday, just days after three Israeli

:08:03. > :08:04.teenagers were found dead A post mortem also revealed

:08:05. > :08:08.the Palestinian teenager had Pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine

:08:09. > :08:18.have evacuated the key eastern city of Sloviansk,

:08:19. > :08:20.following a large scale offensive Troops have raised the Ukrainian

:08:21. > :08:24.flag over the City Hall, and officials say the last outposts of

:08:25. > :08:31.rebel resistance are being overcome. Two smaller towns are also reported

:08:32. > :08:33.to have been retaken In Afghanistan, police say up to 400

:08:34. > :08:42.fuel tankers were set alight in an The trucks, which were

:08:43. > :08:46.in a parking lot, were allegedly targeted because they're used to

:08:47. > :08:48.deliver fuel to NATO forces. Our Kabul Correspondent Karen Allen

:08:49. > :09:05.reports. Dramatic scenes of tankers set

:09:06. > :09:10.alight. Hundreds of them. This was once a strategically important stop

:09:11. > :09:15.on the edge of the capital Kabul. Transformed overnight into a blazing

:09:16. > :09:19.inferno. As the flames lit up the evening sky, fire crews struggled to

:09:20. > :09:24.contain the blaze. Taliban claim they were behind this

:09:25. > :09:28.attack, the tankers signalled out for delivering fuel to NATO troops

:09:29. > :09:32.they say. TRANSLATION: If it was the Taliban

:09:33. > :09:36.they were dressed in uniform. They were shooting at the drivers and

:09:37. > :09:40.setting tanker on fire. Anyone who tried to turn round was targeted by

:09:41. > :09:43.the attackers. By morning, the full extent of

:09:44. > :09:49.damage was clear. This, the latest in a string of

:09:50. > :09:53.resent attacks near the capital, as Afghans await the outcome of crucial

:09:54. > :09:57.Presidential polls. The Taliban may have failed in their mission to halt

:09:58. > :10:01.elections all together, but scenes like these are adding to the sense

:10:02. > :10:07.of nervousness with preliminary results expected on Monday.

:10:08. > :10:12.Well, we have news from the Tour de France but now with the rest of the

:10:13. > :10:18.sport here is Ollie at the World Cup. Thank you very much. We know

:10:19. > :10:22.the full line up for the World Cup semifinals but only after a penalty

:10:23. > :10:25.shoot-out in the last half an hour that saw the Netherlands make it

:10:26. > :10:30.through to face Argentina. I will show you the action from both

:10:31. > :10:32.quarter-finals in a moment, but we will start at Wimbledon because

:10:33. > :10:37.Petra Kvitova is champion for the second time after a very one-sided

:10:38. > :10:42.women's final. She beat the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard in under an hour.

:10:43. > :10:46.Our sports correspondent was at the All England Club.

:10:47. > :10:51.Preparing for the afternoon Eugenie one and two. Playing in front of the

:10:52. > :10:55.Princess you were named after might only increase the pressure, but

:10:56. > :10:59.Eugenie Bouchard was not born into celebrity, she has forced her way up

:11:00. > :11:05.the rankings with excellence but what if you do your best against a

:11:06. > :11:09.player who is better? Magnificent! If Petra Kvitova can

:11:10. > :11:14.control her nerves she can control any opponent on a grass courtment

:11:15. > :11:18.she hits it so hard. Whatever Bouchard sent over the net it was

:11:19. > :11:26.coming back at her 15mph faster, and perfectly placed.

:11:27. > :11:34.There was no way Bouchard could live with it.

:11:35. > :11:40.6-3, 6-0. Kvitova dismantled her point innocent in 55 minutes for her

:11:41. > :11:47.second Wimbledon title. To stay here with the trophy again it is amaze,

:11:48. > :11:53.and definitely I have to say once more, thank you so much to my

:11:54. > :11:58.manager, my dad, who has a birthday tomorrow.

:11:59. > :12:03.Centre Court understood her point perfectly but really there was

:12:04. > :12:06.no-one to thank but herself. Suspend's men's final Djokovic

:12:07. > :12:10.against Federer should be at least longer, in the meantime, why not

:12:11. > :12:17.have one last look at this, because by tomorrow evening, it will be

:12:18. > :12:22.officially out-of-date. To the fall now and 24 days into

:12:23. > :12:26.this World Cup, we are down to the last four teams. Argentina Belo

:12:27. > :12:30.Horizonte up1-0 in the first of the quarter-finals. We expected the

:12:31. > :12:34.Netherlands to be far too strong for Costa Rica but they went the

:12:35. > :12:38.distance in Salvador. The Netherlands only reaching the

:12:39. > :12:44.semifinals after prevailing in a penalty shoot-out.

:12:45. > :12:48.The longer Argentina's World Cup goes on it seems the more their

:12:49. > :12:55.hopes revolve loun Messi. They have admitted their plan was to give the

:12:56. > :12:59.ball to him but another option revealed itself. Argentina went in

:13:00. > :13:03.charge against Belgium. He might have made the game safe after the

:13:04. > :13:09.break. Although the manager lost his bearings, the team didn't and in

:13:10. > :13:12.stoppage time they got Messi away. He doesn't miss from here often.

:13:13. > :13:17.This time Argentina weren't relying on their little superstar.

:13:18. > :13:20.Costa Rica is supposedly the happiest nation on earth and they

:13:21. > :13:25.work that out before the World Cup. But behind all the fun is hard work,

:13:26. > :13:28.not least from their goalkeeper, who kept the Netherlands at bay in the

:13:29. > :13:32.first half. Costa Rica were making Dutch orange

:13:33. > :13:37.look dull, but it could change in a moment. It was so nearly Sneijder's

:13:38. > :13:42.moment. The Netherlands made one last push

:13:43. > :13:48.in stoppage time but Costa Rica kept them out. Somehow.

:13:49. > :13:53.Into extra time and suddenly the cost the rick cans had a glimpse of

:13:54. > :13:57.the semifinal, it was slammed shut. And Sneijder made one last attempt

:13:58. > :14:04.to save the Dutch from penalties. He failed, so it was to the spot. The

:14:05. > :14:08.-- spot. The Dutch changed their goalkeeper. On came on Tim Krul to

:14:09. > :14:15.pull the Netherlands into the semifinals but tiny Costa Rica made

:14:16. > :14:20.one mighty effort here. So it is the Netherlands just who

:14:21. > :14:26.will play Argentina next wend. Before that Brazil face Germany on

:14:27. > :14:29.Tuesday and the hosts of course will be without their star striker Neymar

:14:30. > :14:34.for the rest of the World Cup after he was badly injured, during their

:14:35. > :14:37.win against Colombia. Let us bring in our chief sports correspondent. A

:14:38. > :14:42.terrible blow for the tournament but the reaction oaf the past 24 hours,

:14:43. > :14:46.from this whole nation has been incredible It is right. It is no

:14:47. > :14:50.exaggeration to say there is a collective sense of shock at this

:14:51. > :14:55.injury. Even the President of the country said that Neymar's fractured

:14:56. > :14:59.back had broken her heart, she said, it is amazing the level to which

:15:00. > :15:05.this sports man has been elevated here. He is as you know, the face of

:15:06. > :15:10.football here in this football mad country, and I think if Brazil were

:15:11. > :15:14.nervous about winning a first World Cup on home soil, imagine how they

:15:15. > :15:17.feel now. He was airlifted by helicopter away from the training

:15:18. > :15:20.base today to recuperate with his family. Meanwhile feature have said

:15:21. > :15:25.they are looking at the incident which led to the injury. They may

:15:26. > :15:30.suspend the Colombian who's tackle did this to Neymar. He has

:15:31. > :15:33.apologised, but I think that will be of little comfort to Neymar or the

:15:34. > :15:38.200 million Brazilians who have to get used to life without their star

:15:39. > :15:53.player. Many thanks indeed one other

:15:54. > :15:59.football line for you. The great Alfredo di Stefano is in a coma. He

:16:00. > :16:07.celebrated his 88th birthday. It's the British Grand Prix today, and a

:16:08. > :16:11.mistake by Lewis Hamilton allowed his team-mate to take pole position.

:16:12. > :16:15.It is fourth time he has topped qualifying. Hamilton had been

:16:16. > :16:20.quickest, but he abandoned his final lap after an error. He watched five

:16:21. > :16:24.drivers post faster times, Sebastian Vettel will also be on the front

:16:25. > :16:29.row. Jenson Button will stand in third. Finally, the former England

:16:30. > :16:34.cricket captain Andrew Strauss has apologised for making an offensive

:16:35. > :16:37.remark about Kevin Pietersen, that was accidentally broadcast to

:16:38. > :16:42.overseas viewer, he was commentating on a match at Lord's, and he thought

:16:43. > :16:46.he was off air during an advertising break. That is all the sport from

:16:47. > :16:50.Rio. Thank you.

:16:51. > :16:51.And you can see more on all of the story ops the BBC News channel, that

:16:52. > :17:09.is all from me. Good night. Hello. Saturday brought a contrast

:17:10. > :17:11.in weather conditions across the south-east of England, certainly

:17:12. > :17:14.after the fine sunny weather we have been seeing there. Elsewhere,

:17:15. > :17:16.though, we saw
