:00:00. > :00:08.Palestinians in parts of Gaza take refuge in emergency

:00:09. > :00:18.shelters, as Israel warns its offensive will continue overnight.

:00:19. > :00:23.Some Palestinians are leaving their homes in search of Shelter after the

:00:24. > :00:29.death toll rises above 160. The Archbishop

:00:30. > :00:30.of Canterbury makes the case for women bishops, ahead of a

:00:31. > :00:33.crucial vote in the Synod tomorrow. Why 500 a children a week are now

:00:34. > :00:37.turning up to hospitals in England And could Germany become

:00:38. > :00:43.the first European team to lift Argentina stand between them

:00:44. > :01:07.and sporting history. A deadly night of Israeli airstrikes

:01:08. > :01:12.on Gaza is claimed to have killed 17 members of the same family,

:01:13. > :01:17.in the latest stage of an offensive Since then,

:01:18. > :01:21.officials in Gaza say more than 160 In Israel, there have been no

:01:22. > :01:25.fatalities, although a teenager was In a moment, Quentin Sommerville

:01:26. > :01:31.reports from Ashdod, in Israel. But first, our Middle East

:01:32. > :01:50.Editor Jeremy Bowen from Gaza. For much of the night, the wounded

:01:51. > :01:57.and the dead were what into this hospital. It was the most sustained

:01:58. > :02:04.bombing so far. -- were brought. Gaza was pounded. For Israel, this

:02:05. > :02:11.is self defence with American support. But as more civilians died

:02:12. > :02:19.-- die, the pressure for a cease-fire is growing. At this much

:02:20. > :02:22.we, the bodies of two children from one family was squeezed into one

:02:23. > :02:29.shelf. They were running out of room. 17 members of the family

:02:30. > :02:32.shelf. They were running out of room. 17 members including three

:02:33. > :02:38.children -- three other children were killed in the bombing. The

:02:39. > :02:43.strain showed, this is the third war between Hamas and Israel since 2009.

:02:44. > :02:49.Israel says it goes after Hamas. That is not true.

:02:50. > :02:54.They are children, said this cousin. It is not logical they would be in

:02:55. > :02:57.Hamas. The dead were taken away for burial.

:02:58. > :03:05.Every time Israel kills Palestinians, especially civilians,

:03:06. > :03:10.Hamas gets a boost popularity. Israel is not trying to win friends

:03:11. > :03:15.here. But it does want to weaken Hamas as an organisation.

:03:16. > :03:21.The Israelis say Hamas attacks that he bought and is therefore

:03:22. > :03:31.responsible for civilian deaths when Israel retaliates -- attacks them.

:03:32. > :03:34.At times like this, life and death are overshadowed by one reality,

:03:35. > :03:41.over 70 years of conflict with Israel is no prospect of it ending.

:03:42. > :03:46.North of Gaza city, most people left their homes after Israel warned it

:03:47. > :03:52.might expand its operations. This man and his family were moving after

:03:53. > :04:01.the Israeli deadline. The shelling was close. The displaced families,

:04:02. > :04:05.just as in the last two complex, are in UN schools. They settled in as if

:04:06. > :04:11.it was part of their regular routine. This man, a strawberry

:04:12. > :04:16.farmer, has nine children and more than 100 grandchildren. He said he

:04:17. > :04:18.would never allow Hamas to use them as he human shields, as Israel

:04:19. > :04:43.claims. -- human shields. The chances are, this war, like the

:04:44. > :04:47.last two, will end in a cease-fire, but not yet.

:04:48. > :04:50.In spite of increasing calls for a ceasefire, including one from

:04:51. > :04:52.the United Nations , the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

:04:53. > :04:55.told a meeting of his cabinet this morning that the current operation

:04:56. > :04:59.Our world affairs correspondent Quentin Sommerville reports

:05:00. > :05:11.Do you speak Hebrew, an Israeli soldier asks in this military

:05:12. > :05:16.recording. When Israel strikes Gaza, this is the warning it gives to go

:05:17. > :05:22.-- to those on the ground. You have five minutes to leave. Then I'm --

:05:23. > :05:27.then a missile hits. More air strikes today, the calls are meant

:05:28. > :05:31.to minimise civilian casualties at schools of Palestinian women and

:05:32. > :05:35.children die when the missiles hit. The blame for that, says Benjamin

:05:36. > :05:40.Netanyahu, lies with Hamas. Our goal is to achieve sustainable

:05:41. > :05:47.quiet and security for our people and we do that by grading Hamas. I

:05:48. > :05:52.am not saying right now how and when that goal will be achieved, a

:05:53. > :05:58.diplomatic and military means, but that goal has to be achieved --

:05:59. > :06:03.whether by diplomatic. Rockets from Gaza continues to hit Israel today,

:06:04. > :06:12.this landing in a Southern city. These attacks cause fear but the

:06:13. > :06:18.military advantage is Israel's. The missile system gives Israel an

:06:19. > :06:23.advantage over Hamas. It intercepts and deploys rockets, and is the

:06:24. > :06:28.reason why almost a week into this complex, not a single Israeli has

:06:29. > :06:33.been killed by Hamas. Support for Israel's air campaign is almost

:06:34. > :06:36.universal. It is necessary, but Israel should

:06:37. > :06:42.define its goals in a better way and what it wants to achieve. It is

:06:43. > :06:45.about time we take time Hamas and Benjamin Netanyahu is doing the

:06:46. > :06:50.right thing and I hope he will take the foot soldiers and go and

:06:51. > :06:56.eradicate Hamas. Israel's tanks stand ready to invade Gaza but among

:06:57. > :07:01.Israelis, there is not widespread support for a ground offensive.

:07:02. > :07:07.That, for now, maybe all stomping this conflict that maybe all that is

:07:08. > :07:12.stopping this conflict from escalating.

:07:13. > :07:15.The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has told the BBC it's

:07:16. > :07:17.important for the Church of England to accept female bishops.

:07:18. > :07:21.His comments come ahead of a vote on the issue at the Church's General

:07:22. > :07:25.Archbishop Welby says if the vote is in favour, the first woman bishop

:07:26. > :07:31.Our religious affairs correspondent Robert Pigott reports.

:07:32. > :07:37.At Saint Mary is, Primrose Hill, celebrating holy Communion this

:07:38. > :07:44.morning, the congregation takes their woman priest for granted -- at

:07:45. > :07:47.Mary's. Women priests, once seen as unthinkable, are now indispensable

:07:48. > :07:51.and they make up a third of Anglican clergy.

:07:52. > :07:57.Be Christians, we are people, and nobody said it had to be men only.

:07:58. > :08:01.Women bishops I think is a marvellous idea. Why did we not do

:08:02. > :08:04.it before? Traditionalists who do not want to

:08:05. > :08:10.serve under a woman, have given new concessions. Parishes can request a

:08:11. > :08:16.male alternative and go to an ombudsman if there is a dispute.

:08:17. > :08:21.Evangelicals say it is not enough. We wanted to carry on with male

:08:22. > :08:26.leadership in our churches. Unfortunately, this package insists

:08:27. > :08:29.churches need to go to a woman outside their Church to find out

:08:30. > :08:34.what happens inside their Church and that is a problem, that is very

:08:35. > :08:38.difficult for us. Anglican leaders accept the

:08:39. > :08:41.Church's reputation has been damaged by the long debate over whether to

:08:42. > :08:48.give women equal status. I think to the general public, this

:08:49. > :08:50.is almost incomprehensible. And it is incomprehensible we are still

:08:51. > :08:56.talking about it. What is the timescale? There is a

:08:57. > :09:02.good chance the first woman bishop will be announced at the very --

:09:03. > :09:05.very early in 2015. Members of the Synod met at York

:09:06. > :09:10.Minster this morning and they prayed for wisdom in making one of the

:09:11. > :09:15.biggest decisions of their lives. It seems the Synod could be on the

:09:16. > :09:19.brink of a historic decision, picking a long tradition of male

:09:20. > :09:23.only bishops going back to the time of Jesus.

:09:24. > :09:26.Not for at least 20 years has the future of the Church swung so

:09:27. > :09:31.decisively on a single vote. But the scorching -- but that is

:09:32. > :09:37.cautious optimism among campaigners. A handful of moderates defeated it

:09:38. > :09:45.last time and four say they are ready to change their minds.

:09:46. > :09:47.Nearly 500 young children a week are being admitted to hospital

:09:48. > :09:52.According to new figures from the NHS, tooth decay is now the

:09:53. > :09:55.main reason five to nine year olds in England are treated in hospital.

:09:56. > :09:58.Dentists say some of the children need as many as 14 teeth extracted.

:09:59. > :10:13.Open wide. For nine-year old Casper, good news,

:10:14. > :10:15.no fillings today. But figures from the NHS in England show more

:10:16. > :10:19.children are being admitted to hospital to have rotten teeth taken

:10:20. > :10:27.out for any other reason. That is a quick solve to ape Robbyn

:10:28. > :10:31.to have extractions -- to a problem. Then the child will be without teeth

:10:32. > :10:39.for a while. It is getting worse. Three years

:10:40. > :10:44.ago, more than 22,500 children needed hospital treatment and now it

:10:45. > :10:48.is nearly 26,000. The next big scores is tonsillitis and that is

:10:49. > :10:53.far behind with just over 11,500 admissions. In extreme cases,

:10:54. > :10:58.children have required all 20 baby teeth to be extract it, which could

:10:59. > :11:03.put children of the dentist for life and lead to a lifetime of costly

:11:04. > :11:08.dental difficulties -- extracted. Dentists say the problem is

:11:09. > :11:13.overconsumption of soft drinks, including fruit juice which is high

:11:14. > :11:16.in sugar. They say not only do many parents not understand the dangers

:11:17. > :11:22.of fizzy drinks and fruit juices but they do not appreciate the benefits

:11:23. > :11:26.of frequent checkups to detect problems early on.

:11:27. > :11:31.The parents themselves have not appreciated that what they doing and

:11:32. > :11:39.giving their children might in fact be contributing to the dental

:11:40. > :11:43.disease that we find. And that is why we are very keen to emphasise

:11:44. > :11:52.that water is by far and away the best drink to be giving children.

:11:53. > :11:58.Brush from the gone to the tooth. Education, say dentists, is the key,

:11:59. > :12:02.and not just telling children how to brush but educating their parents

:12:03. > :12:05.and schools to swap sugary soft drinks for water.

:12:06. > :12:08.Now looking ahead to tonight's World Cup Final and the rest

:12:09. > :12:11.of the sport, here's OIly Foster in Rio de Janeiro.

:12:12. > :12:13.Rio always has a very special atmosphere

:12:14. > :12:16.on match days, but we are now just a few hours away from kick-off

:12:17. > :12:21.And we will be live at the Maracana Stadium in a moment.

:12:22. > :12:23.But first, here's our chief sports correspondent Dan

:12:24. > :12:26.Roan with the story of how Germany and Argentina are preparing for

:12:27. > :12:41.They are the noisy neighbours. This may be Brazil's World Cup but it is

:12:42. > :12:45.the host -- but it is their archrivals who have crashed the

:12:46. > :12:50.party. 100,000 Argentina fans flocking across the border for a

:12:51. > :12:56.foot hauling pilgrimage. Such are the numbers, the son Beau drome has

:12:57. > :13:00.been turned into a campsite. -- samba drome. Everybody desperate to

:13:01. > :13:05.witness their teams become world champions.

:13:06. > :13:12.It took as a week. But if Argentina win, it is worth

:13:13. > :13:17.it? Of course, we are going to win. Will Lionel Messi be the man? Yes,

:13:18. > :13:22.he is the best, the second Maradona. No pressure. A man many see as the

:13:23. > :13:26.greatest player of his generation have got Argentina this far but now

:13:27. > :13:35.comes the defining moment in his illustrious career.

:13:36. > :13:39.However, Germany's astonishing 7-1 thrashing of Brazil ensures they are

:13:40. > :13:42.favourites. After the win against Brazil,

:13:43. > :13:46.everybody thinks this will be easy-going but we have to win it.

:13:47. > :13:50.The circumstances are just for us because we know we are the better

:13:51. > :13:53.team and I think the guys know they are under pressure a little bit but

:13:54. > :13:58.they have to deliver. He at the Maracana, the biggest

:13:59. > :14:04.security operation Rio has ever seen is under way with 26,000 personnel

:14:05. > :14:10.on duty. The hope is now events inside this iconic arena deliver a

:14:11. > :14:15.fitting finale to a memorable month. I have never experienced this level

:14:16. > :14:21.of excitement leading up to a match, we hope for a good one!

:14:22. > :14:27.If any final can live up to the billing, it is this. There is a

:14:28. > :14:30.sense this is the best player in the world against the best team and

:14:31. > :14:37.there is no doubt Germany will have the momentum. There is a sense this

:14:38. > :14:41.is their time, Argentina are heavily dependent on Lionel Messi. It is

:14:42. > :14:45.fascinating and that is why more than 1 billion people are expected

:14:46. > :14:48.to tune into this game on television. We have the grandest

:14:49. > :14:49.stages and now we just need a place to perform.

:14:50. > :14:54.Many thanks. Let's just move away from Brazil

:14:55. > :14:57.and bring you some other sport, England have drawn the First Test

:14:58. > :15:00.against India at Trent Bridge. It was an entertaining end to

:15:01. > :15:03.the match, with Alastair Cook bowling in the style of Bob Willis

:15:04. > :15:06.and taking his first Test wicket, but with England yet to bat on the

:15:07. > :15:19.final day and India leading by over That is all for now, from a very

:15:20. > :15:22.lively Rio de Janeiro as we count down to the World Cup final.
