:00:22. > :00:25.Palestinian officials in Gaza say 130 bodies have been recovered

:00:26. > :00:28.from the rubble of buildings today, during a brief humanitarian truce

:00:29. > :00:34.Many of those who died were women and children.

:00:35. > :00:38.The number of Palestinians killed is now more than 1,000, according

:00:39. > :00:45.42 Israelis, most of them soldiers, have also died.

:00:46. > :00:47.Our international affairs correspondent Ian Pannell reports

:00:48. > :01:00.Some viewers may find his report distressing.

:01:01. > :01:07.At eight this morning, the guns fell silent and people poured out onto

:01:08. > :01:11.the streets. To homes they had abandoned because of the conflict

:01:12. > :01:18.with Israel. No one could have imagined what they would find. One

:01:19. > :01:24.week ago, this was a bustling neighbourhood. Crushed beyond

:01:25. > :01:32.recognition by intense Israeli bombardment. We saw this man weeping

:01:33. > :01:42.on a mound of rubble that have been his home. He'd put his life savings

:01:43. > :01:49.into it. Today, it is all gone. It feels like my heart is full of

:01:50. > :01:54.knives, he says. Dozens of bodies were pulled from the rubble today.

:01:55. > :01:59.Many heeded Israeli warnings to get out, but a stench of death marks

:02:00. > :02:06.those who were unable or unwilling to. For this man, the grief of

:02:07. > :02:14.finding his son's body is simply too much. This district lies within

:02:15. > :02:18.clear sight of the border. Israel says attacks were planned here and

:02:19. > :02:23.that dozens of tunnels used by militants have been unearthed. We've

:02:24. > :02:27.come to the eastern part of Gaza where it borders Israel. You can

:02:28. > :02:34.just see over there, literally I guess about 400 metres away, I admit

:02:35. > :02:38.Israeli tank. This entire area has been bulldozed with huge damage to

:02:39. > :02:45.buildings on either side. The mood remains tense. You can hear

:02:46. > :02:49.automatic gunfire as Israeli drones constantly hover overhead. Like

:02:50. > :02:57.everyone else, this woman came here to get her things, but it was not

:02:58. > :03:04.possible. TRANSLATION: I cannot find my house. Where is it? I couldn't

:03:05. > :03:11.see anything. Nothing is left. The house is gone. Everything has gone.

:03:12. > :03:15.Tonight, the cease-fire will be over. While people here may pray for

:03:16. > :03:20.an everlasting peace, few expected. The truce between Israel and Hamas

:03:21. > :03:23.was due to end very shortly, but Israel has just said it will

:03:24. > :03:27.extend it for a further four hours. Our correspondent Bethany Bell is

:03:28. > :03:29.in Jerusalem now ? Bethany, any indications that Israel will

:03:30. > :03:40.agree to a longer-term ceasefire? We have not yet heard whether Hammad

:03:41. > :03:45.have also agreed to this extension. The Israeli security cabinet is

:03:46. > :03:50.meeting a bit later and we may get a clearer picture of plans then, but

:03:51. > :03:54.at the moment, it doesn't seem to be likely that Israel is considering a

:03:55. > :03:59.longer term cease-fire at the moment. In fact, yesterday, the

:04:00. > :04:05.defence minister said Israel may be prepared to broaden its offensive in

:04:06. > :04:10.Gaza significantly. It is concerned about the new threat that has

:04:11. > :04:14.emerged of cross-border tunnels from Gaza into Israel, through which

:04:15. > :04:19.Palestinian militants have been trying to get into Israel. They want

:04:20. > :04:23.to get rid of as many of them as they can. Many Israelis want the

:04:24. > :04:27.rocket fire to stop, they are very concerned about the rising number of

:04:28. > :04:32.casualties among soldiers, but in general there is widespread support

:04:33. > :04:36.for what the Army is doing in Gaza. People here are unified and say the

:04:37. > :04:37.army must go on with what it is doing to protect the people of

:04:38. > :04:45.Israel. Russia says new proposed

:04:46. > :04:47.European Union sanctions will jeopardise international

:04:48. > :04:48.co-operation on security. The sanctions, including travel

:04:49. > :04:51.bans, are the EU's latest response Military police officers

:04:52. > :04:54.from the Netherlands have arrived in Eastern Ukraine to help search for

:04:55. > :04:57.bodies from the Malaysian airliner, Amongst the blackened debris

:04:58. > :05:11.of flight MH17, George

:05:12. > :05:14.and his wife Angela travelled from Australia to be here, where their

:05:15. > :05:18.daughter and so many others died. We have promised

:05:19. > :05:20.our daughter we will come here. But as soon as possible,

:05:21. > :05:23.there was a time factor. We should have come here

:05:24. > :05:27.the minute it happened. But not far from the crash site,

:05:28. > :05:35.around the city, reports of fierce fighting between

:05:36. > :05:37.the heavy artillery of the Ukrainian This footage looks genuine

:05:38. > :05:48.but cannot be verified. Now, 40 unarmed Dutch military

:05:49. > :05:50.police have travelled to Ukraine The Dutch military police

:05:51. > :05:55.are now here, and when they decide it is safe enough to travel to the

:05:56. > :05:59.crash site, they will accompany the investigators, who it is hoped can

:06:00. > :06:02.then make real progress and work in relative safety to try to find

:06:03. > :06:05.out how a Malaysian airline But in Moscow, anger over plans

:06:06. > :06:12.for new European Union sanctions. Russia says the measures

:06:13. > :06:14.could jeopardise international And then there are those that have

:06:15. > :06:20.fled the fighting Just two of 230,000 forced from

:06:21. > :06:45.their homes because of the war. The first female commander

:06:46. > :06:47.of a major British warship is understood to have left her vessel

:06:48. > :06:49.after allegations Commander Sarah West, who's 42,

:06:50. > :06:54.was coming to the end of a seven-month deployment

:06:55. > :06:56.on board the frigate, HMS Portland. Our correspondent Philippa Thomas is

:06:57. > :07:10.at the Ministry She first made headlines two years

:07:11. > :07:14.ago when she became the first woman to command a front-line warship in

:07:15. > :07:19.hundreds of years of naval history. She described that moment as the

:07:20. > :07:23.highlight of her career. We understand she was chosen because

:07:24. > :07:28.she displayed leadership and sound judgement. Today, the Ministry of

:07:29. > :07:32.defence has concerned -- confirmed she is on annual leave and the

:07:33. > :07:37.second in command is in charge of the ship. I should say we have no

:07:38. > :07:45.confirmation that come under West has had an inappropriate

:07:46. > :07:47.relationship. The MoD says the department is treating seriously the

:07:48. > :07:50.allegation that the Armed Forces code of social conduct has been

:07:51. > :07:54.breached. It adds, anyone who is bound to fall short of the Royal

:07:55. > :07:59.Navy's high standards can expect to face appropriate action. The code

:08:00. > :08:04.does not forbid personal relationships, but if they damage

:08:05. > :08:10.operational effectiveness or team cohesion, the sanctions can range

:08:11. > :08:13.from advice to disciplinary action. In the case of persistent social

:08:14. > :08:17.misconduct, it can lead to the officer being sacked.

:08:18. > :08:21.Wales have won their first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games - in

:08:22. > :08:24.the rhythmic gymnastics. On day three of the event, England also

:08:25. > :08:27.took gold in the mixed team triathlon. With more on the day's

:08:28. > :08:29.action, here's our sports correspondent Andy Swiss. His

:08:30. > :08:38.report, I must advise you, contains some flash photgraphy.

:08:39. > :08:40.It is one of sport's ultimate fairy tale endings.

:08:41. > :08:42.Wales's Frankie Jones in triumph and tears.

:08:43. > :08:45.The ribbon event was the last of her entire gymnastics career.

:08:46. > :08:47.She got into it with a remarkable five silver medals here

:08:48. > :08:51.This was a final chance, and how she took it.

:08:52. > :08:54.What a competition she has had, whatever the result.

:08:55. > :08:57.Well, the result was first place, but one of her rivals then appealed.

:08:58. > :09:08.After an agonising few moments, her gold was confirmed.

:09:09. > :09:11.The last routine, I was like, I'm going to go.

:09:12. > :09:16.It is happy and smiley and I just went out to have fun.

:09:17. > :09:21.It was the best way I could have finished.

:09:22. > :09:24.Around Glasgow, it was a day when fans flocked by any means possible.

:09:25. > :09:27.This is one of the busiest days of the entire games

:09:28. > :09:33.This flotilla of 250 boats have journeyed up the River Clyde.

:09:34. > :09:36.Once again for the home teams there has been plenty of cheer.

:09:37. > :09:38.In the triathlon, Alistair Brownlee had time to high-5

:09:39. > :09:43.the crowd and saunter across the line as he led England to

:09:44. > :10:00.England's Mick Gault won a record 18th Commonwealth medal.

:10:01. > :10:03.The rugby sevens got underway, with Scotland giving New Zealand

:10:04. > :10:09.The All Blacks, never beaten at the games,

:10:10. > :10:17.And after three days of sunshine, a lightning bolt.

:10:18. > :10:18.Usain Bolt's arrival sparked predictable excitement.

:10:19. > :10:27.The game's biggest name is finally in town.

:10:28. > :10:29.There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel.
