:00:15. > :00:16.In the Gaza conflict, both sides offer ceasefires and

:00:17. > :00:18.blame each other as the fighting rages on.

:00:19. > :00:25.Once again, it's often civilians who are in the firing line.

:00:26. > :00:29.There are more casualties in Israel - it claims Hamas has violated its

:00:30. > :00:32.Ukrainian troops pour into the area where the Malaysian

:00:33. > :00:38.Airlines crashed ten days ago there are reports of heavy fighting.

:00:39. > :00:40.Order! Questions to the Prime Minister.

:00:41. > :00:42.The Labour leader says the public should have

:00:43. > :00:44.their own weekly question time with the Prime Minister.

:00:45. > :01:05.And Laura Trott wins gold for England at the Commonwealth Games.

:01:06. > :01:10.President Obama has called for an immediate and unconditional

:01:11. > :01:13.truce between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza.

:01:14. > :01:16.After three weeks of fighting, Israel and Hamas had both offered

:01:17. > :01:19.ceasefires today, but ended up launching new attacks on each other.

:01:20. > :01:27.1,032 Palestinians have been killed since the Israeli assault began.

:01:28. > :01:34.45 Israelis have died - all but two of them soldiers.

:01:35. > :01:48.Today was supposed to be quiet in Gaza. Israel extended its

:01:49. > :01:53.cease-fire. But Hamas did not. This was filmed by the Israeli military.

:01:54. > :01:59.They say it shows rockets being fired from a school across the board

:02:00. > :02:03.into Israel. What is the benefit to the Palestinian people of Hamas

:02:04. > :02:08.breaking the truce and then having massive Israeli air fire? We are

:02:09. > :02:13.looking for a total agreement and a full agreement that will end the

:02:14. > :02:18.killing and lift the siege totally and get our freedom. This was

:02:19. > :02:22.Israel's response. It has just gone 10am in the morning. We were told

:02:23. > :02:26.that Israel was a deer into the cease-fire and that we were OK to

:02:27. > :02:30.travel in this area but we are hearing a fairly constant barrage of

:02:31. > :02:40.artillery and we have seen smoke rising in a number of different

:02:41. > :02:45.locations. There! EXPLOSION And intense bombardment followed.

:02:46. > :02:46.Israel had declared its cease-fire over, but many residents were simply

:02:47. > :02:56.unaware. The young mother said she was

:02:57. > :03:03.running away with her children, echoes, her house had just been hit.

:03:04. > :03:05.Just now. And while we talked to another

:03:06. > :03:14.landing. EXPLOSION

:03:15. > :03:19.They didn't even flinch. He says the shelling has become normal, even for

:03:20. > :03:29.the children. It may have become normal for some, but no less

:03:30. > :03:47.deadly. Emergency teams being called out. People have been injured.

:03:48. > :03:57.Four people have been wounded. They said they had been working on their

:03:58. > :04:08.farm. All of them had shrapnel wounds.

:04:09. > :04:17.Even for a rescue workers the risks have been come every day -- become

:04:18. > :04:19.everyday. There was hope of a longer cease-fire, even a peace process,

:04:20. > :04:22.but this feels far from over. Israel has admitted its forces did

:04:23. > :04:25.fire on a UN-run school in Gaza last week, in which 15

:04:26. > :04:30.people are said to have died. Israel claims one stray mortar

:04:31. > :04:33.hit the school courtyard - which The Israeli Prime Minister,

:04:34. > :04:38.Benjamin Netanyahu, has defended the Gaza operation,

:04:39. > :04:41.saying Hamas broke its own truce Orla Guerin reports from

:04:42. > :04:55.Southern Israel. Mid-afternoon in Israel, a message

:04:56. > :05:02.from Hamas. A rocket landed one hour into a cease-fire, which it had

:05:03. > :05:10.announced. The homeowner was moderately wounded. And here,

:05:11. > :05:14.Israel's response. The government insists it is pounding Gaza to stop

:05:15. > :05:21.the rockets and to destroy a network of tunnels that can be used to

:05:22. > :05:26.launch attacks. Israeli troops remain in position here close to the

:05:27. > :05:30.Gaza border and they are still in position on the other side. In

:05:31. > :05:35.recent days the defence minister has said the ground operation could be

:05:36. > :05:39.broadened significantly. 20 days on, by Israeli standards, the Army

:05:40. > :05:45.has already suffered heavy losses and we are just hearing the sound

:05:46. > :05:48.now of outgoing fire. The justice minister Tzipi Livni was at the

:05:49. > :05:53.bedside of one of the wounded troops. We are not allowed to show

:05:54. > :05:59.his face. Israel has lost 43 soldiers, but it has killed hundreds

:06:00. > :06:03.of Palestinian civilians. How can Israel try to justify raining

:06:04. > :06:08.missiles down on one of the most densely populated areas on Earth? We

:06:09. > :06:12.have tried to stop more than once. Just yesterday we took a decision in

:06:13. > :06:16.the Israeli government to have a humanitarian cease-fire but Hamas

:06:17. > :06:18.said no. She would not comment further but internationally the

:06:19. > :06:27.questions keep coming about the huge number of innocent victims. On a

:06:28. > :06:33.hill overlooking Gaza Israelis come to watch the warfare. For some a

:06:34. > :06:40.spectator sport and four others a painful blister. I believe in peace

:06:41. > :06:43.and I'm still hoping for peace. It's the first time I feel we didn't have

:06:44. > :06:49.a choice. It's the first time it happened to me. But we need to do

:06:50. > :06:55.what we need to do for now and let's hope that after that we are going to

:06:56. > :06:59.start talking about peace. Few here expect that. Cease-fires may come

:07:00. > :07:05.and go but there is no Palestinian state on the horizon. What Israelis

:07:06. > :07:08.are fighting for now is an end to the rockets.

:07:09. > :07:11.There are reports of heavy fighting in eastern Ukraine, close to

:07:12. > :07:17.the site where Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-17 crashed ten days ago.

:07:18. > :07:19.Government forces are trying to regain control of the area

:07:20. > :07:24.It means a team of Dutch and Australian police officers have

:07:25. > :07:26.been forced to postpone a visit to the crash site.

:07:27. > :07:41.Today, Ukrainian government forces rolled through countryside right

:07:42. > :07:45.near the crash site of Flight MH17. Four months pro-Russian rebels have

:07:46. > :07:49.controlled this area, but throughout this weekend there has been fierce

:07:50. > :07:56.fighting nearby and gains for Ukraine's government. Not far-away

:07:57. > :08:00.the city of Horlivka, where there has been heavy shelling. The video

:08:01. > :08:07.seems genuine. Civilians have been killed today, including children.

:08:08. > :08:11.Horlivka is near the strategically important rebel controlled city of

:08:12. > :08:16.Donetsk. Advances by Ukraine's Army suggests they are trying to control

:08:17. > :08:19.two main roads. The Ukrainian government believes they are key

:08:20. > :08:24.supply lines from Russia for rebel forces in the city. And not far away

:08:25. > :08:30.the crash site of Flight MH17 near the village of Hrabove. That is

:08:31. > :08:34.where this Dutch police and forensics team wanted to go today.

:08:35. > :08:37.But they decided it wasn't safe. The Dutch Prime Minister said sending in

:08:38. > :08:43.an armed team to the crash site is not an option. TRANSLATION: The

:08:44. > :08:48.separatists have many heavily armed men close to the Russian border.

:08:49. > :08:54.Achieving military superiority through an international mission in

:08:55. > :08:58.this region is not realistic. Meanwhile, the US State Department

:08:59. > :09:00.released these satellite images. The US says this one shows marks on the

:09:01. > :09:06.ground where multiple rocket launchers were fired by Russia. Over

:09:07. > :09:13.its border and into Ukraine. Moscow says Washington is guilty of blatant

:09:14. > :09:17.lives. -- lies. But in the Dutch city of Hilversum where they are

:09:18. > :09:21.identifying the victim 's tributes for those 298 passengers. Their

:09:22. > :09:25.families want the truth, but it is proving hard for those countries

:09:26. > :09:36.seeking answers. Here, the Deputy

:09:37. > :09:38.Prime Minister Nick Clegg has said Russia should not be allowed to host

:09:39. > :09:42.the next World Cup in four years Our Political correspondent

:09:43. > :09:45.Ross Hawkins is here. So Ross,

:09:46. > :09:50.is this now government policy? Is this government policy? There is

:09:51. > :09:54.no sign at all that this is what British diplomats will be arguing

:09:55. > :09:56.for internationally. A completely different tone from Downing Street.

:09:57. > :10:00.In their statement they said the prime and it believes we should not

:10:01. > :10:04.push for an immediate boycott. I spoke to say Hugh Robertson who was

:10:05. > :10:08.the Olympics minister and then a Foreign Office minister. He said he

:10:09. > :10:11.thought Nick Clegg was right in principle, but in practice you would

:10:12. > :10:15.need the agreement of all the European football authorities and

:10:16. > :10:20.UEFA and he thought that was pretty unlikely. He stood down at the last

:10:21. > :10:25.reshuffle. What will happen, though, is EU ambassadors will meet over the

:10:26. > :10:28.next couple of days to hammer out a sanctions regime, and economic

:10:29. > :10:32.sanctions regime, against Russia and there is an awareness in the UK at

:10:33. > :10:36.the moment, that if they are not successful on Monday and Tuesday, it

:10:37. > :10:39.is possible that ministers and conceivably even the Prime Minister

:10:40. > :10:40.could have to travel to Brussels to get a deal. Thank you for joining

:10:41. > :10:43.us. The Labour leader Ed Miliband says

:10:44. > :10:46.the public should get the chance to interrogate the Prime Minister

:10:47. > :10:52.in regular sessions at Parliament. MPs currently put questions to

:10:53. > :10:55.the Prime Minister on a Wednesday - now Mr Miliband says voters should

:10:56. > :10:58.have the same opportunity. Our political correspondent

:10:59. > :10:59.Adam Fleming reports. The familiar sound of

:11:00. > :11:04.Prime Minister's Questions, held every Wednesday at midday

:11:05. > :11:14.in the House of Commons. I think what we need is a public

:11:15. > :11:25.question time, where regularly members of the public in the Palace

:11:26. > :11:28.of Westminster on Wednesdays. Because I want to let the public

:11:29. > :11:39.in to our politics. ordinary voters sitting

:11:40. > :11:43.on the famous green benches. What is likely is that PMQs will

:11:44. > :11:45.take place in Westminster Hall, where the Commons has

:11:46. > :11:48.a lesser known sister chamber. Would you be first in the queue

:11:49. > :11:50.if people's PMQs happened? Yes I would,

:11:51. > :11:53.I have lots of questions. That is what we vote for - for them

:11:54. > :11:57.to get in there and debate things. We've got more important

:11:58. > :12:02.things to do. The Deputy Prime Minister hosts

:12:03. > :12:11.a radio phone in every week. And Ed Miliband is often

:12:12. > :12:12.on his soapbox. Voters really want the economy to

:12:13. > :12:19.function, crime to be tackled, immigration to be tackled, decent

:12:20. > :12:25.schools and decent hospitals. They say they want to be involved,

:12:26. > :12:28.but actually what they really want To make his plan a reality Ed

:12:29. > :12:35.Miliband needs the agreement of the MPs would then vote on whether to

:12:36. > :12:46.let the public in for people's PMQs. A new wave of violence is sweeping

:12:47. > :12:49.through the Central African Republic despite a ceasefire agreement

:12:50. > :12:53.between rival groups. The conflict began when Muslim

:12:54. > :12:57.rebels seized power last year. More than a million people have

:12:58. > :13:00.been forced from their homes. At the centre

:13:01. > :13:07.of the latest fighting is the remote town of Bambari, where

:13:08. > :13:10.the Muslim rebels have been fighting From there, our correspondent

:13:11. > :13:19.Andrew Harding reports. Armed men on the roads, a succession

:13:20. > :13:28.of burnt villages and no sign of the cease-fire. We are heading to

:13:29. > :13:32.Bambari, an isolated town at the centre of the new surge of violence

:13:33. > :13:38.in the Central African Republic. Gunshot wounds at the local

:13:39. > :13:41.hospital, mostly civilians here, Christians and Muslims targeted by

:13:42. > :13:47.rival militias, spreading terror through the surrounding countryside.

:13:48. > :13:57.TRANSLATION: My mother is there, my wife there, my Father and daughter

:13:58. > :14:01.are dead. There is several areas of fighting. Along several axis outside

:14:02. > :14:07.Bambari we found six villages being burned and every day we hear about

:14:08. > :14:10.new villages being burned. In town a few thousand Muslims are trapped in

:14:11. > :14:16.one neighbourhood, with no faith in a new cease-fire. TRANSLATION: The

:14:17. > :14:24.only solution is to split this country in two. The Muslims take one

:14:25. > :14:31.half. Meanwhile, the entire Christian population has fled to

:14:32. > :14:33.crowded camps on the outskirts. French troops now patrol the no

:14:34. > :14:43.man's land between the two religions. It brief show of force by

:14:44. > :14:53.some Muslim fighters blocking the way. Don't threaten us, he says. We

:14:54. > :14:58.will go where we want, when we want, the French officer replies. The town

:14:59. > :15:04.here is sharply divided between Christian and Muslim. The French are

:15:05. > :15:08.certainly making a difference, but there simply aren't enough of them

:15:09. > :15:13.to secure this whole country. And this violence here still has a

:15:14. > :15:19.lethal momentum. Nearby, the French stumble across an old man, naked and

:15:20. > :15:24.near death, abandoned here when the town split in two. It is hard to

:15:25. > :15:28.avoid comparisons with the wretched state of an entire nation.

:15:29. > :15:35.Here's John Watson at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

:15:36. > :15:42.It's Day 4 of the games and the start

:15:43. > :15:45.of the athletics here with two gold medals already won at Hampden Park.

:15:46. > :15:48.The first gold of the day went to Australia's Michael

:15:49. > :15:51.Shelley in the men's marathon and double Olympic champion Laura Trott

:15:52. > :15:56.Our sports correspondent Andy Swiss rounds up the day's action.

:15:57. > :16:05.The day began amid a Glasgow gloom, with the marathon, that test of

:16:06. > :16:09.stamina on the streets. The slippery conditions didn't help, but the

:16:10. > :16:12.sizeable crowds did and through the grade charged the green and gold,

:16:13. > :16:19.Australia's Michael Shelley winning the men's race while the winnings

:16:20. > :16:22.Australia's Michael Shelley winning Daniel. At Hampden Park we have had

:16:23. > :16:26.the start of the track and field. This is the home of Scottish

:16:27. > :16:30.football and now an athletics arena. In the absence of some big stars is

:16:31. > :16:36.a chance for others to make their name. Like England's Adam Jamesie,

:16:37. > :16:39.fastest in the heat of the 100 metres and Betty Woodward, a silver

:16:40. > :16:43.in the parrots bought a long jump. There was gold for the man with the

:16:44. > :16:51.golden hair of Kenya, winning the 5000 metres. But the biggest roar

:16:52. > :16:55.went to the man who came last. 17-year-old from the Solomon Islands

:16:56. > :16:59.was lapped three times but cheered home like a champion. The day's

:17:00. > :17:03.tightest finish came in the velodrome. England's Laura Trott

:17:04. > :17:07.defying a kidney infection and Wales's Ellena Barker in the points

:17:08. > :17:12.race. I just gave it my best shot and when I saw that Ellena was one

:17:13. > :17:17.point ahead of me I thought I was dying but there was no way I was

:17:18. > :17:21.losing the race. But for the hosts the night belonged to a Shetland

:17:22. > :17:24.schoolgirl, 13-year-old Erin Davies, Scotland's youngest ever

:17:25. > :17:27.Commonwealth competitor taking bronze in the parrots winning. The

:17:28. > :17:34.home crowd have found a new favourite. -- para swimming.

:17:35. > :17:37.Italy's Vincenzo Nibali has been crowned champion at the climax

:17:38. > :17:39.of the Tour de France on the Champ-Elysees in Paris.

:17:40. > :17:43.The Italian is the sixth rider to win all three

:17:44. > :17:45.Earlier, the Dutch world champion, Marianne Vos, sprinted to victory

:17:46. > :17:51.In Formula One - the Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo

:17:52. > :17:55.But it was Lewis Hamilton who stole the show -

:17:56. > :17:58.recovering from having to start in the pit lane to finish third.

:17:59. > :18:01.It means Nico Rosberg's lead in the championship has been reduced

:18:02. > :18:11.In cricket - England began the third Test match

:18:12. > :18:16.Captain Alistair Cook coming close to ending a 14-month wait for a

:18:17. > :18:22.first Test century, making 95 as the hosts dominated the opening day.

:18:23. > :18:37.And a reminder of the main news: President Obama called on Israel and

:18:38. > :18:39.Hamas to agree an immediate cease-fire in Gaza to pave the way

:18:40. > :18:41.for a permanent peace deal. You can see more on all of today's
