:00:18. > :00:22.The parents of Ashya King, the five-year-old boy with

:00:23. > :00:25.a brain tumour - who was taken by them from hospital

:00:26. > :00:29.against medical advice - are being questioned by police in Spain.

:00:30. > :00:33.Ashya and his family were found by officers in Malaga last night.

:00:34. > :00:35.Police here have defended their actions in issuing a European

:00:36. > :00:51.Ashya, who is seriously ill with a brain tumour, was taken in an

:00:52. > :00:56.ambulance to Malaga's Children's Hospital where he is being treated.

:00:57. > :01:02.His parents have been arrested by the Spanish police, a police source

:01:03. > :01:05.told me they were arrested on suspicion of maltreatment of a

:01:06. > :01:12.child, it is an allegation that his parents strongly denied. Before his

:01:13. > :01:19.arrest, Ashya's father released this video insisting they were taking

:01:20. > :01:22.care of his son. We were most disturbed to find his face was all

:01:23. > :01:28.over the Internet and newspapers and we have been labelled as kidnappers.

:01:29. > :01:31.There is nothing to suggest they broke the law when they removed

:01:32. > :01:33.their son from the hospital in Hampshire. There has been

:01:34. > :01:36.significant debate about the appropriateness of police

:01:37. > :01:40.involvement in the case, today the Hampshire Police defended their

:01:41. > :01:45.actions. Medical experts were saying, if he didn't get the care he

:01:46. > :01:49.needed there was a potential threat to his life. Faced with those

:01:50. > :01:54.circumstances I make no apology for the pleas being as proactive as we

:01:55. > :02:00.can to find him and make sure he gets the help he needed -- the

:02:01. > :02:04.police. Ashya's father said they wanted to sell their property near

:02:05. > :02:12.Marbella, to fund a treatment which is not available in the UK, but he

:02:13. > :02:18.was worried about doctors and how they would react at Southampton

:02:19. > :02:22.hospital. If I asked anything, if I gave any doubt, they said they would

:02:23. > :02:25.get a protection order, in his deepest darkest hour, it meant I

:02:26. > :02:32.would not be there to look after him. When this lady 's son had a

:02:33. > :02:40.tumour in his face, they travel to the United States for proton beam

:02:41. > :02:43.their appeal. My heart goes out to them, I understand where they are

:02:44. > :02:46.coming from, you have to do everything within your power to make

:02:47. > :02:51.it right, we would have sold everything we owned to pay for the

:02:52. > :02:55.treatment. The complex and sensitive nature of this story means it is

:02:56. > :02:57.hard to predict what will happen next. But everybody shares one

:02:58. > :03:12.priority: The health of boy. We have had a statement from the

:03:13. > :03:16.hospital from Southampton where he was being treated, what does this

:03:17. > :03:19.say? That's right, the hospital saying they are delighted he has

:03:20. > :03:24.been found and they are aware of the comments of his father he has made

:03:25. > :03:27.online. They say they have had conversations with the family

:03:28. > :03:31.throughout the treatment and they've discussed the possibility of Ashya

:03:32. > :03:35.having treatment abroad. They say they are working closely with the

:03:36. > :03:41.authorities in this part of Spain. What will happen to Ashya's parents,

:03:42. > :03:47.now, they have been questioned by Spanish police since they were

:03:48. > :03:50.arrested late last night. It followed an international arrest

:03:51. > :03:54.warrant yesterday afternoon which was issued. The Spanish police were

:03:55. > :04:00.working on the basis of that. It is not clear, there is nothing to

:04:01. > :04:04.suggest that Ashya's parents committed any criminal offence after

:04:05. > :04:09.they removed him from the hospital on Thursday and there has been

:04:10. > :04:14.plenty of sympathy on the social media, people believe they have been

:04:15. > :04:17.criminalised. We expect Hampshire Police officers to arrive in the

:04:18. > :04:20.Costa del Sol later today and it is unclear what will happen next.

:04:21. > :04:23.Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, says talks on ending the conflict

:04:24. > :04:25.in eastern Ukraine must include discussions on protecting the

:04:26. > :04:30.European leaders have warned they'll impose additional sanctions

:04:31. > :04:35.against Russia if the President doesn't change tack within a week.

:04:36. > :04:43.Here's our Diplomatic Correspondent, Paul Adams.

:04:44. > :04:49.In the southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol, a defiant human chain.

:04:50. > :04:53.Since the fall of the nearby town on Wednesday, residents have been

:04:54. > :04:58.bracing themselves for an assault, possibly involving Russian troops.

:04:59. > :05:03.Why are you bringing death, asks this poster, of Russia, a sense of

:05:04. > :05:06.danger now driving the European diplomatic response. In Brussels

:05:07. > :05:10.last night the Ukrainian president spoke of the threat of full-scale

:05:11. > :05:14.war, the response among European leaders was a warning to Russia to

:05:15. > :05:20.withdraw forces and equipment immediately and a pledge to draw up

:05:21. > :05:23.new sanctions within one week. It is a deeply serious situation and we

:05:24. > :05:28.have to show real resolve and resilience in demonstrating to

:05:29. > :05:33.Russia, if she carries on in this way the relationship between Europe

:05:34. > :05:36.and Russia, Britain and Russia, and America and Russia will be radically

:05:37. > :05:40.different in the future, they cannot go on in this way. The German

:05:41. > :05:50.Chancellor Angela Merkel said Vladimir Putin

:05:51. > :05:50.no agreement yet on what they should be an plenty of scepticism among

:05:51. > :05:57.Central and Eastern European members. A diplomatic solution still

:05:58. > :06:01.what everybody wants to see. There can be no military solution to this

:06:02. > :06:04.crisis, we need to get down to the business of peacemaking, it is not

:06:05. > :06:10.too late but time is quickly running out. Overnight Ukraine and Russia

:06:11. > :06:14.swapped prisoners, Ukraine handing over ten Russian paratroopers

:06:15. > :06:18.captured one week ago, and Russia returning more than 60 Ukrainian

:06:19. > :06:23.soldiers who had crossed the border under rebel fire. As some refugees

:06:24. > :06:26.also returned to the Ukraine from Russia, Vladimir Putin said it was

:06:27. > :06:29.up to the government in Kiev to stop the fighting.

:06:30. > :06:32.In Iraq, security forces are reported to have gone into the town

:06:33. > :06:35.of Amerli which had been beseiged by Islamic State extremists.

:06:36. > :06:37.Earlier air strikes against the militants were carried

:06:38. > :06:43.Aid supplies have been dropped to residents.

:06:44. > :06:48.Our Correspondent, Jim Muir, is in Northern Iraq now.

:06:49. > :06:56.Jim, you are very near the point where this has been happening, what

:06:57. > :07:02.have you seen? That's right, well, just a few miles away from Amerli,

:07:03. > :07:08.you may be able to see some Shi'ite militia behind me, taking part in

:07:09. > :07:12.what they call the liberation of Amerli, it is a short distance to

:07:13. > :07:22.the south west from here. We have been at front line positions

:07:23. > :07:25.occupied by Peshmerga fighters, operating with sniper rifles,

:07:26. > :07:30.machine guns and long-range artillery. Plumes of smoke over the

:07:31. > :07:35.Islamic positions, the joint forces of Iraqi army with these Shi'ite

:07:36. > :07:38.militias went in from the south-west and south-east on two fronts, and

:07:39. > :07:42.they say they have penetrated into the town and broken the siege but

:07:43. > :07:46.they are saying it is too dangerous to go there at the moment. There are

:07:47. > :07:50.a lot of roadside bombs and booby traps left behind by the departing

:07:51. > :07:56.Islamists and the place is not deemed safe but it seems the

:07:57. > :07:59.blockade which has gone on for two months now on this minority of

:08:00. > :08:04.people trapped there seems to have been broken. The breakthrough has

:08:05. > :08:08.happened, but it is not stable enough apparently for us to be

:08:09. > :08:12.allowed into actually bear witness. Thank you for joining us.

:08:13. > :08:13.And the BBC understands the government is

:08:14. > :08:15.considering introducing temporary bans on UK-born jihadists in Iraq

:08:16. > :08:22.The government had been considering ways to remove citizenship

:08:23. > :08:25.from those suspected of being involved in terrorist acts, but that

:08:26. > :08:27.now they are considering ways of preventing them from returning

:08:28. > :08:41.The Royal College of GPs is calling for an emergency

:08:42. > :08:43.government taskforce to be set up to monitor childhood obesity.

:08:44. > :08:46.In a letter to the Chief Medical Officer, doctors leaders say that

:08:47. > :08:48.an entire generation of children is being destroyed by

:08:49. > :08:53.They warn this could be the first generation of children who

:08:54. > :09:08.It is estimated that one third of children and young adults are

:09:09. > :09:11.overweight or obese. This according to the Royal Oak GPs amounts to a

:09:12. > :09:18.state of emergency. The problem is too much junk food and not enough

:09:19. > :09:20.exercise. Doctors say treatment for childhood condition macro is a

:09:21. > :09:27.postcode lottery with some areas offering no help at all. Because

:09:28. > :09:30.responsibility has passed down locally it is a patchwork of

:09:31. > :09:34.provision which ranges from a letter from the school to say your child is

:09:35. > :09:38.overweight and saying consult your local health professional or it can

:09:39. > :09:43.be an appointment with a dietician and a six-week programme, we need

:09:44. > :09:49.much more than that. We are failing children, we are condemning children

:09:50. > :09:53.to a lifetime of ill health. The Royal College of GPs says one answer

:09:54. > :09:57.would be a tax on sugary drinks, but that's already been rejected by the

:09:58. > :10:00.government. In a statement the Department of Health says that

:10:01. > :10:07.condition macro is at its lowest level since 1998 -- condition

:10:08. > :10:12.it is not considering attacks however on sugar, instead the

:10:13. > :10:18.government says it is investing heavily in school sport. Doctors say

:10:19. > :10:23.unless urgent action is taken now, an entire generation will soon be

:10:24. > :10:27.destroyed by junk food. And the NHS will not be able to cope.

:10:28. > :10:30.The next news on BBC One is at 6.35 this evening.

:10:31. > :10:49.Hello, it is the last day of the meteorological summer, and it is

:10:50. > :10:52.ending on a fine note. Looking back at the last month or so,
