:02:26. > :02:30.falling but are still dangerous. Stay away from the river and
:02:31. > :02:31.bridges, let the council get on and clean-up, they've been out in force
:02:32. > :02:41.this morning with road sweepers. For many families this been a
:02:42. > :02:45.traumatic weekend, six people were rescued the coastguard from a
:02:46. > :02:49.flooded house in Caernarvon overnight. Others were today walking
:02:50. > :02:53.warily through the flood, to assess the damage and retrieve vital
:02:54. > :03:01.supplies for the days, weeks and months that it may take to get their
:03:02. > :03:04.houses habitable again. Parts of Cumbria had almost doubled their
:03:05. > :03:12.usual December rainfall this weekend. I have not seen it like
:03:13. > :03:16.this in 43 years. The Lake District is living up to its name today (!)
:03:17. > :03:22.for all of the wrong reasons, in this valley, some traffic was
:03:23. > :03:27.moving, just, but the landscape is inundated, livestock have been
:03:28. > :03:30.trapped, and travel is difficult. Rail services have been disrupted,
:03:31. > :03:41.landslides have blocked some roads. With a gap in the rain for some, the
:03:42. > :03:42.clean-up is under way. Storm Desmond has left massive disruption in its

:04:09. > :04:11.talk of water levels dropping in some places but that is not the case
:04:12. > :04:18.in Carlisle, this is Warwick Road, severely flooded, act in 2005. Last
:04:19. > :04:21.night we were standing half a mile down the road, where it was dry, but
:04:22. > :04:26.just after midnight the flood defences were overwhelmed, water
:04:27. > :04:29.gushed through and within one hour, the road was flooded, by this
:04:30. > :04:33.morning it was all the way up here, this is a real ongoing series
:04:34. > :04:38.incident here in Carlisle at the moment, we have the emergency
:04:39. > :04:43.services here coordinating rescues, the RNLI are going out in boats, and
:04:44. > :04:48.the situation is this, there is also a electricity substation under
:04:49. > :04:51.threat from flood water. If that goes, 60,000 homes in Carlisle are
:04:52. > :04:57.potentially going to be left without power. That is a serious worry this
:04:58. > :04:58.afternoon that it will happen. It may have stopped raining but
:04:59. > :05:08.floodwaters are still rising. Give us a sense of what is happening
:05:09. > :05:12.where you are, Christian. Blue sky at the moment, mercifully, the rain
:05:13. > :05:16.has stopped falling, you can see the River Greta behind us, swollen and
:05:17. > :05:20.angry. The river level has fallen as we have been standing here, last
:05:21. > :05:26.night it was up to the roof of this shelter, and the power of the water
:05:27. > :05:30.has slammed trees up against the shelter and it was broken over the
:05:31. > :05:33.wall that was built in 2009. Residents alongside the River tell
:05:34. > :05:38.me that it was forcing its way through the floor, between chimneys,
:05:39. > :05:42.and over the door, there was no way to stop it. When you look at the
:05:43. > :05:45.aerial pictures above Keswick, you can see that although the river
:05:46. > :05:50.level has fallen, large parts of the town are still underwater, and
:05:51. > :05:54.Derwentwater, all of the way down to the lake, about a mile and a half
:05:55. > :05:59.away, there is one giant lagoon, one expanse of water. Water cascading
:06:00. > :06:03.from the hillside down the hillside, over the road, and into this valley
:06:04. > :06:08.bottom. It will take several days, if not weeks for the water that is
:06:09. > :06:09.standing in towns like this one up and down Cumbria to subside
:06:10. > :06:13.completely. say it is treating a knife attack

:07:46. > :07:49.went out, and began chasing the girl around the statue. Back inside,
:07:50. > :07:53.mobile phones recorded how members of the public shouted at the man to
:07:54. > :07:58.lay down his weapon. Police dealing with this were local offices, none
:07:59. > :08:03.of them had a firearm. They used a Taser stun gun on the suspect. It
:08:04. > :08:07.took more than one attempt to overpower him. From one traveller, a
:08:08. > :08:15.strong message to the knifeman. You are not Muslim, bruv! It is being
:08:16. > :08:20.treated as a terrorist incident, which was announced within a few
:08:21. > :08:26.hours by the Metropolitan Police. It is an appalling act, but we cannot
:08:27. > :08:28.allow it to affect the way that people live their lives and the
:08:29. > :08:33.community functions, and that is absolutely right. Leytonstone
:08:34. > :08:37.station has reopened as counterterrorism officers tried to
:08:38. > :08:44.establish the motivation for the attack. It is the counterterrorism
:08:45. > :08:49.command that will establish whether it was Islamism inspired, by now
:08:50. > :08:54.they will know whether this man was on their radar and the radar of the
:08:55. > :08:57.security services. We understand that a residential address is being
:08:58. > :09:00.searched, in east London, they will also be looking at this man's
:09:01. > :09:08.associates and whether he was mentally ill.
