:00:22. > :00:27.Talks are taking place in Vienna between the US and Iran -

:00:28. > :00:29.ahead of a widely anticipated announcement that international

:00:30. > :00:31.sanctions against Iran will be lifted.

:00:32. > :00:34.The international nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, is expected to rule that

:00:35. > :00:36.Iran has scaled back its atomic programme -

:00:37. > :00:42.confirmation of which will trigger the lifting of sanctions.

:00:43. > :00:46.This afternoon, Iran said it had released four prisoners with dual

:00:47. > :00:47.US-Iranian nationality, as part of a prisoner exchange

:00:48. > :00:59.Our Diplomatic Correspondent Bridget Kendall is in Vienna for us tonight.

:01:00. > :01:05.Yes, all day here at the UN headquarters in Vienna there has

:01:06. > :01:07.been an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement, waiting for that

:01:08. > :01:13.announcement that Iran has done enough on its nuclear programme to

:01:14. > :01:18.have sanctions lifted. The reigning Foreign Minister is here, the

:01:19. > :01:22.European representative on foreign affairs, John Kerry, US Secretary of

:01:23. > :01:25.State is in the mix. We're still waiting for that announcement but in

:01:26. > :01:29.the meantime there's been another dramatic announcement. The one you

:01:30. > :01:36.mentioned, of the prisoner swap, which, surely, wasn't unrelated.

:01:37. > :01:40.Released today from captivity for allegedly plotting against the

:01:41. > :01:48.Iranians state, Washington Post reporter Jason. Along with three

:01:49. > :01:54.other Iranians American captives. And a fourth man. All freed in a

:01:55. > :02:00.dramatic prisoner swap with the United States. On the very day the

:02:01. > :02:04.Iranians Foreign Minister came to Vienna for the other expected

:02:05. > :02:09.momentous news, that Iran has cut back its nuclear programme enough to

:02:10. > :02:16.get years of crippling international sanctions lifted. Today is the day

:02:17. > :02:21.we prove to the world that threats, sanctions, intimidation, pressure,

:02:22. > :02:25.don't work. Respect works. Through respect, through dialogue, through

:02:26. > :02:30.negotiations, we can, in fact, which mutually acceptable solutions. In

:02:31. > :02:38.terror and they followed the latest news closely. Dissensions have

:02:39. > :02:42.banned not just trade, but even moving money around. Now, in one big

:02:43. > :02:47.sweep, the world is lifting most of the restrictions. TRANSLATION: Of

:02:48. > :02:52.course people's economic situation will become much better. Now there's

:02:53. > :02:57.a lot of pressure on people, too much, everyone has two jobs. If

:02:58. > :03:01.sanctions are lifted we can have low prices. Inflation will go down and

:03:02. > :03:06.this will help the quality-of-life for people in Iran. Some sanctions

:03:07. > :03:11.will remain, but overall this is a significant milestone. A promise of

:03:12. > :03:16.the end of years of isolation for Iran, its oil can now start to flow

:03:17. > :03:20.out again and investors can dive in. Once they've got the confidence that

:03:21. > :03:25.the sanctions' winter is well and truly over.

:03:26. > :03:30.We're still waiting for the announcement to happen here. We know

:03:31. > :03:35.exactly what it'll be, there will be a report from the UN atomic agency

:03:36. > :03:38.confirming Iran has done enough on its nuclear programme, it'll

:03:39. > :03:42.trigger, it'll be a green light, for sanctions to be lifted. We know

:03:43. > :03:48.there will be a statement from the Iranians Foreign Minister alongside

:03:49. > :03:52.the European foreign policy chief. It could be an anti-climax, we know

:03:53. > :03:54.exactly what will happen and which sanctions will be lifted but one

:03:55. > :04:01.shouldn't underestimate the portions of this moment. It's the minute Iran

:04:02. > :04:05.comes in from the cold, it'll open its doors and flood oil on the world

:04:06. > :04:09.stage, around the world, countries will be able to do business with

:04:10. > :04:19.Iran again. Beyond that, as the prisoner swap joke today, there is a

:04:20. > :04:21.diplomatic dimension, the balance of power and relations could be

:04:22. > :04:27.dramatically altered globally. Bridget Kendall.

:04:28. > :04:30.At least 26 people, including a number of foreigners,

:04:31. > :04:32.have been killed and dozens injured in a gun attack by Islamist

:04:33. > :04:35.extremists on a hotel in the West African state of Burkina

:04:36. > :04:38.120 hostages were freed after local troops -

:04:39. > :04:40.backed by French special forces - stormed the building.

:04:41. > :04:42.A group linked to Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility.

:04:43. > :04:44.It took place in Burkina Faso's capital

:04:45. > :04:46.Ouagadougou in a luxury hotel popular with Westerners.

:04:47. > :04:56.Our Correspondent Thomas Fessy reports from there.

:04:57. > :05:05.This is when government troops backed by French special forces

:05:06. > :05:10.finally retook control of the Hotel. Dramatic scenes right in the centre

:05:11. > :05:18.of the capital city. The terrified guests were evacuated after a long

:05:19. > :05:22.night in hiding. It all began on Friday evening around supper time.

:05:23. > :05:28.Al-Qaeda militants stormed the splendid hotel and a cafe across the

:05:29. > :05:34.street. Both popular with UN staff and foreigners. TRANSLATION: They

:05:35. > :05:37.started shooting, shooting and everybody lay down on the ground. As

:05:38. > :05:41.soon as you lifted your head you would get shot straightaway so you

:05:42. > :05:47.had to pretend to be dead. They even came to touch our feed to tell if we

:05:48. > :05:52.were alive. Soldiers has no other option but to fight back here. There

:05:53. > :05:57.was no negotiation. The jihadists didn't come to take hostages, they

:05:58. > :06:01.came to kill. TRANSLATION: When they left they set fire to the place, the

:06:02. > :06:07.smoke started to suffocate me and the other survivors. Some reports

:06:08. > :06:11.suggest at least two women were among the four militants killed in

:06:12. > :06:16.the rescue operation. More than 100 people were freed. We're not allowed

:06:17. > :06:20.to go any further than this security cordon but even from here we can see

:06:21. > :06:25.traces of the attack. We've seen soldiers and investigators going in

:06:26. > :06:28.and out of the hotel, but the authorities say they have the

:06:29. > :06:35.situation under control and they've called on people to stay calm. We

:06:36. > :06:39.appeal to the people to be vigilant and brace because we must fight on

:06:40. > :06:47.and learn to live with terrorist acts in our daily lives. It's the

:06:48. > :06:52.first time this country scarred by a jihadi attack of such a scale, just

:06:53. > :06:55.under two months after the same group carried out a similar attack

:06:56. > :06:57.in neighbouring Mali, what they've shown here is that they remain a

:06:58. > :07:01.threat for the whole region. Companies could be banned

:07:02. > :07:03.from paying dividends to shareholders unless they pay

:07:04. > :07:05.workers the Living Wage - under plans outlined

:07:06. > :07:07.by Jeremy Corbyn. The Labour leader also

:07:08. > :07:09.suggested imposing pay ratios between those at the top and bottom

:07:10. > :07:14.of a firm's salary scales. The business organisation the CBI

:07:15. > :07:17.warned against any move to interfere with the relationship

:07:18. > :07:18.between private companies Rescuers have pulled to safety

:07:19. > :07:27.dozens of migrants trying to reach Many people are still attempting

:07:28. > :07:31.the crossing to Greece at night to avoid detection -

:07:32. > :07:32.despite the freezing conditions making conditions

:07:33. > :07:35.even more treacherous. Our correspondent Mark Lowen

:07:36. > :07:41.reports from turkey. Our correspondent Mark Lowen

:07:42. > :07:43.reports from Turkey. Off the Greek coast,

:07:44. > :07:50.a call for help. Maltese volunteers spot a group

:07:51. > :07:52.of refugees in the freezing They are hauled

:07:53. > :08:10.to safety one by one. The rescue boat itself

:08:11. > :08:14.buffeted by the waves. The dinghy is overcrowded,

:08:15. > :08:18.full of women and children. Their only hope was Europe,

:08:19. > :08:21.the Greek island of In the care of paramedics,

:08:22. > :08:27.the exhaustion of fleeing Syria is etched

:08:28. > :08:29.on their faces. We tried to cross three times

:08:30. > :08:37.to travel to Greece, but we have very bad

:08:38. > :08:42.experience in the sea. They put their faith

:08:43. > :08:45.in the smugglers. Turkey now under pressure

:08:46. > :08:50.to clamp down on the trade. But however perilous waters,

:08:51. > :08:53.the desperate continue to come. As the Middle East's tragedy plays

:08:54. > :09:01.out on Europe's borders. England's cricketers have won

:09:02. > :09:03.the Test series against South Africa - with a resounding 7 wicket

:09:04. > :09:08.victory in Johannesburg. Man of the match Stuart Broad took 6

:09:09. > :09:11.wickets for just 17 runs - as the home team were bowled out

:09:12. > :09:14.for 83 in their second innings. It left England needing

:09:15. > :09:26.just 74 to win. A series victory at the home of the

:09:27. > :09:31.world's best. This England side once again reaching spectacular new

:09:32. > :09:35.heights. Still, all that seemed a long way off as Joe Root returned to

:09:36. > :09:39.the crease this morning. His wicket began an England batting collapse of

:09:40. > :09:43.sorts, quite literally here in the case of Moeen Ali. The last five

:09:44. > :09:48.lost quickly as conditions swung back towards the bowlers. England's

:09:49. > :09:51.lead a mere ten runs. This match and the series was about to turn once

:09:52. > :09:57.more, this time decisively. The England pace attack relentless,

:09:58. > :10:00.unforgiving. Stuart Broad's first wicket. When he finds his rhythm

:10:01. > :10:04.thereafter you more destructive anywhere else in the world. A B de

:10:05. > :10:08.Villiers, the South African captain, couldn't cope with him. Others

:10:09. > :10:14.simply tried to get out of his way, the result is the same. Broad took

:10:15. > :10:19.five wickets for a single South African man. They ended the innings

:10:20. > :10:23.on 83. An extraordinary day finishing as it began, Joe Root at

:10:24. > :10:25.the crease steering England towards a quite remarkable victory.
