:00:24. > :00:25.Good afternoon and welcome to BBC News.

:00:26. > :00:27.The Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson -

:00:28. > :00:31.says reform on the key issue of sovereignty is not achievable

:00:32. > :00:36.He told the BBC he'd been happy with a deal on the table that

:00:37. > :00:38.would have returned powers of sovereignty from Brussels

:00:39. > :00:42.to Britain and possibly swung him towards the in campaign.

:00:43. > :00:44.But Government lawyers, he revealed, considered

:00:45. > :00:49.Here's our political correspondent Alan Soady.

:00:50. > :00:56.On the road and almost on the same side, but now Boris Johnson has

:00:57. > :01:00.revealed worries over sovereignty drove him away. The Prime Minister,

:01:01. > :01:07.he decided, hadn't got a good enough deal from the EU. The reason I have

:01:08. > :01:11.come to this conclusion is I think staying in the European Union, as it

:01:12. > :01:16.evolve towards an ever more central Federalist structure in order to

:01:17. > :01:21.preserve the new row is the risky option. The best thing for us, we

:01:22. > :01:28.are a great country, proud economy, pro-democracy, is to take control.

:01:29. > :01:32.Jobs and the economy are at the heart of the EU debate. Business

:01:33. > :01:37.leaders have been split over whether the UK's interests lie in or out of

:01:38. > :01:41.the European Union. The former Bank of England Governor

:01:42. > :01:46.Mervyn King thinks Europe would remain the UK's biggest trading

:01:47. > :01:51.partner either way. Some European politicians can see problems.

:01:52. > :01:56.TRANSLATION: You are either in the single market or you are not, and if

:01:57. > :01:59.you are not, you have trade agreements. Of course there are

:02:00. > :02:03.countries within Europe part of the single market, but they still had to

:02:04. > :02:07.pay into the budget of the community and accept the free movement of

:02:08. > :02:12.people. So they have all the disadvantages of the common market

:02:13. > :02:16.and they are not involved in the decision-making process of the

:02:17. > :02:19.internal single market. The campaign to win over voters is

:02:20. > :02:25.hotting up. Both sides know many simply do not know what is best for

:02:26. > :02:30.the country or who to believe. Both sides have got off to a very

:02:31. > :02:36.bad start in terms of allowing this to develop into an issue around

:02:37. > :02:40.personalities, about self-promotion, about what will happen to the

:02:41. > :02:43.Conservative Party after the 23rd of June. Instead we should all be

:02:44. > :02:49.concentrating on getting across messages about the real fact is.

:02:50. > :02:53.When he went to Brussels David Cameron said he would walk the extra

:02:54. > :02:58.mile to hammer out a good deal for the UK. Now Boris Johnson says on

:02:59. > :02:59.the sovereignty issue the Prime Minister should have headed towards

:03:00. > :03:03.the XZ. -- Exeter. Police have charged a man

:03:04. > :03:06.with the knife attack on a pregnant 40-year-old woman in Sutton

:03:07. > :03:08.Coldfield on Friday afternoon. Babur Karamat Raja is

:03:09. > :03:10.41 and lives locally. He'll appear before

:03:11. > :03:11.Birmingham Magistrates tomorrow on charges including attempted

:03:12. > :03:13.murder and attempted child The woman's is in a stable condition

:03:14. > :03:30.in hospital and her baby girl A teenager with autism who spent six

:03:31. > :03:35.months in a psychiatric unit which his family had likened to a prison

:03:36. > :03:39.will be moved to a specialist facility within weeks. Matthew

:03:40. > :03:43.Garnett's family set up an online petition calling for or suitable

:03:44. > :03:46.care. The Government says it is investing nearly ?1.5 billion in

:03:47. > :03:48.mental health services for children. In the United States it's been

:03:49. > :03:51.a good night for the two leading Republican presidential hopefuls,

:03:52. > :03:53.with Donald Trump and Ted Cruz each winning two of the four states

:03:54. > :03:55.choosing their candidates. Mr Trump took Louisiana

:03:56. > :03:58.and Kentucky, while Mr Cruz secured In the Democratic contest,

:03:59. > :04:01.Bernie Sanders won in Kansas and Nebraska, while Hillary Clinton

:04:02. > :04:04.took Louisiana by a good margin. From Washington, Barbara Plett-Usher

:04:05. > :04:13.reports. That I, no matter how I feel,

:04:14. > :04:16.no matter what the conditions, Rock-solid support from

:04:17. > :04:21.Donald Trump's passionate fans, despite his brutal bashing this week

:04:22. > :04:24.by Republican elites. ..will vote on or before the 12th

:04:25. > :04:35.for Donald J Trump for president! Such loyalty helped Mr Trump

:04:36. > :04:39.with the two biggest states up for grabs in Saturday's contest,

:04:40. > :04:47.but it was a decent night, not a great one,

:04:48. > :04:50.because the Texas Senator Ted I would love to take on Ted

:04:51. > :04:53.one-on-one, that would be Because Ted can't win New York,

:04:54. > :04:57.he can't win New Jersey, he can't win Pennsylvania,

:04:58. > :05:00.he can't win California. Mr Cruz wants a one-on-one

:05:01. > :05:10.after also winning two states. He's bolstered his case that he's

:05:11. > :05:13.the best alternative for Republicans terrified that Mr Trump will lose

:05:14. > :05:16.them the White House. Donald Trump is not the best

:05:17. > :05:18.candidate to go head-to-head The odds are too high,

:05:19. > :05:22.if he loses we lose the Supreme Court for a generation,

:05:23. > :05:25.we lose the Bill of Rights, But the third man,

:05:26. > :05:32.Florida Senator Marco Rubio, isn't ready to drop out even though

:05:33. > :05:36.he had a very bad night. He's holding on for a crucial

:05:37. > :05:40.contest in his home state. In the Democratic campaign,

:05:41. > :05:42.Senator Bernie Sanders He scored victories

:05:43. > :05:46.in Kansas and Nebraska, justifying his determination

:05:47. > :05:49.to stay in the race. We will win that primary

:05:50. > :05:53.if the voter turnout is high. But it's a long shot,

:05:54. > :06:02.because Hillary Clinton strengthened her comfortable lead

:06:03. > :06:05.in last night's votes. She wants Mr Sanders to drop out

:06:06. > :06:08.so she can focus on facing the Republican nominee,

:06:09. > :06:11.which is still looking as if it Barbara Plett-Usher,

:08:09. > :08:15.These ambitions are right, they are high ambitions but,

:08:16. > :08:19.at the same time, they can't be delivered on fresh air.

:08:20. > :08:21.We need to ensure the right resources are channelled

:08:22. > :08:24.into the right places in our NHS, in social care and, importantly,

:08:25. > :08:30.Dementia is a massive challenge, not just for the health system

:08:31. > :08:35.The Alzheimer's Society and others will be paying close attention

:08:36. > :08:39.to how the plan is implemented in hospitals.

:08:40. > :08:43.The Government admits they can be frightening places for those
