:00:20. > :00:22.The energy company EDF has said it cannot confirm

:00:23. > :00:26.its commitment to build a new nuclear reactor in Somerset

:00:27. > :00:29.unless the French government provides more money for the project.

:00:30. > :00:32.The reactor at Hinckley Point is the first in a series of planned

:00:33. > :00:35.new nuclear power stations intended to guarantee

:00:36. > :00:40.Earlier this week, EDF's finance director resigned,

:00:41. > :00:43.warning the contract would break the company.

:00:44. > :00:51.Our business correspondent Joe Lynam reports.

:00:52. > :00:59.Hinkley Point already generate nuclear power, but a massive

:01:00. > :01:03.expansion could soon provide 7% of Britain's entire electricity supply.

:01:04. > :01:08.Hinckley is a key part in the country's energy mix, designed to

:01:09. > :01:12.keep the lights on. EDF is set to build Hinkley Point at a cost of ?18

:01:13. > :01:17.billion, that is more than the entire market value of the company

:01:18. > :01:21.and its trade unions, which are represented at board level, are

:01:22. > :01:30.sceptical. As was its own finance director who resigned this week. Now

:01:31. > :01:44.the EDF chairman has written to his staff to reassure them, but

:01:45. > :01:50.the political will to build Hinckley is immense. David Cameron and

:01:51. > :01:54.President Francois Hollande reaffirmed the commitment to the

:01:55. > :01:58.deal a week ago, describing it as a pillar of their bilateral

:01:59. > :02:07.relationship. Does that mean Britain can no longer walk away? If we go

:02:08. > :02:09.along beyond the point EDF have made their financial investment decision,

:02:10. > :02:12.we would have to compensate them for what they would have gained if the

:02:13. > :02:18.contract had gone ahead and that would be expensive. A group of MPs

:02:19. > :02:25.think the deal needs to be re-examined. We will have a look and

:02:26. > :02:30.we will have a look at the evidence. As it looks at the moment the

:02:31. > :02:35.evidence does not look great. Some people feel this Hinckley deal makes

:02:36. > :02:40.no financial sense. Taxpayers will be paying ?92.50 for each megawatt

:02:41. > :02:45.it produces, almost three times as much as the current wholesale price

:02:46. > :02:49.of energy. But the government said it was committed to Hinkley Point

:02:50. > :02:53.and it was the only proven low carbon technology that can provide

:02:54. > :02:55.continuous power irrespective of whether the wind was blowing or the

:02:56. > :02:58.sun was shining. Charities have strongly criticised

:02:59. > :03:00.planned new cuts to welfare payments More than half a million people

:03:01. > :03:04.are expected to lose their personal independence payments

:03:05. > :03:05.under the changes. The Government says the reforms will

:03:06. > :03:08.save more than a billion pounds. Our political correspondent

:03:09. > :03:19.Ross Hawkins is here. What is the government doing? This

:03:20. > :03:23.is a benefit to help disabled people, practical things to help

:03:24. > :03:27.them get through daily life. The government wants it to serve the

:03:28. > :03:31.purpose it was there for, but they are making a cut to half a million

:03:32. > :03:36.people and this comes after votes in parliament that means a ?30 a week

:03:37. > :03:41.up to another allowance that goes to people who are sick and disabled and

:03:42. > :03:47.judged to be able to go back to work in the future. This will save money

:03:48. > :03:51.ahead of the budget. That could be useful for the Chancellor, but his

:03:52. > :03:55.opponents will charge him for trying to fund tax breaks for high earners

:03:56. > :03:58.by cutting the money that goes to some of the sick, ill and disabled

:03:59. > :04:02.The Home Office is planning to set up a new Forensic

:04:03. > :04:05.and Biometrics Service four years after it made the controversial

:04:06. > :04:08.The proposal is part of what ministers say

:04:09. > :04:10.is a new "national approach" to forensic science

:04:11. > :04:19.Donald Trump has been forced to cancel a rally in Chicago

:04:20. > :04:23.The Republican presidential hopeful said

:04:24. > :04:25.he was concerned someone would get hurt as hundreds of people gathered

:04:26. > :04:31.Here's our North America Correspondent Laura Bicker.

:04:32. > :04:34.This was supposed to be a political rally.

:04:35. > :04:39.Instead many of the scenes resembled a bar room brawl.

:04:40. > :04:41.There is anger here at a candidate many

:04:42. > :04:45.Protesters at this university campus have spent

:04:46. > :04:51.days planning disruption and they succeeded.

:04:52. > :04:53.Mr Trump just arrived in Chicago and after meeting with law

:04:54. > :04:56.enforcement has determined that for the safety of all the tens

:04:57. > :05:01.of thousands of people that have gathered in and around the arena,

:05:02. > :05:04.tonight's rally will be postponed until another day.

:05:05. > :05:08.Thank you very much for your attendance and please

:05:09. > :05:14.On the streets of Chicago thousands gathered.

:05:15. > :05:20.Protests at Trump rallies are not new, but they are growing in scale.

:05:21. > :05:23.At an event in North Carolina one of the

:05:24. > :05:26.billionaire's supporters was seen punching a protester.

:05:27. > :05:34.This level of protest at a campaign is unprecedented,

:05:35. > :05:37.not seen in US politics since the 1960s,

:05:38. > :05:42.but Donald Trump believes they are not angry with him.

:05:43. > :05:45.There is so much anger in the country, it is just

:05:46. > :05:48.anger in the country, and I do not think it is directed

:05:49. > :05:51.at me or anything, it is directed at what has

:05:52. > :05:57.This election campaign has been hard to

:05:58. > :06:03.There is anger on all sides and the consequences of that

:06:04. > :06:13.An artificial intelligence computer programme has taken a 3-0 lead

:06:14. > :06:16.in a five-match series against one of the world's top players

:06:17. > :06:20.The AlphaGo programme, designed by Google, beat
