:00:21. > :00:25.Ministers have ordered an inquiry into claims that a doctor provided

:00:26. > :00:28.performance-enhancing drugs to top sports stars,

:00:29. > :00:30.including players at three Premier League clubs

:00:31. > :00:35.Dr Mark Bonar was secretly filmed by the Sunday Times talking

:00:36. > :00:37.about prescribing steroids and growth hormones.

:00:38. > :00:43.The football clubs say the claims are completely unfounded

:00:44. > :00:45.and they have no knowledge of any players being involved.

:00:46. > :00:53.Our correspondent David Ornstein has the details.

:00:54. > :01:00.The Sunday Times says it sent an aspiring Olympic runner to film Dr

:01:01. > :01:06.Mark Bonar undercover. He claimed he had helped more than 150 elite

:01:07. > :01:09.sports people, including boxers, tennis players, an English

:01:10. > :01:12.cricketer, British cyclists and Premier League footballers.

:01:13. > :01:18.Obviously some of these treatments I out of are banned on the

:01:19. > :01:23.professional circuit. OK. So you have to be mindful of that. Having

:01:24. > :01:27.said that, I've worked with lots of professional athletes. OK. Who do

:01:28. > :01:33.use these treatments. The doctor, who is based in London, allegedly

:01:34. > :01:39.prescribed performance enhancing drugs such as EPO, steroids and

:01:40. > :01:47.human growth hormone. The truth of the matter is drugs are in sport.

:01:48. > :01:53.Right. Now, what I do is, what I do is I prescribe responsibly and I try

:01:54. > :02:01.to keep my patients the optimum level of normal. If somebody came

:02:02. > :02:06.into me and said, why are you giving (BLEEP) testosterone, can I say,

:02:07. > :02:15.look, his testosterone level is 15 and the normal range is 4 to 30, he

:02:16. > :02:19.has symptoms of testosterone deficiency syndrome and I just

:02:20. > :02:25.topped them up. But that's not the real reason. It is to increase his

:02:26. > :02:29.performance. It is how you sell it. It also implicates some of the

:02:30. > :02:33.biggest football clubs in England. If you are a footballer in your 30s

:02:34. > :02:37.how are you going to keep up with an 18-year-old. There is though

:02:38. > :02:42.suggestion that any Premier League club was aware of any wrongdoing and

:02:43. > :02:46.they same the claims are false and without foundation. It stems from

:02:47. > :02:51.evidence passed to UK Anti-Doping Agency two years ago. UK Anti-Doping

:02:52. > :02:56.Agency said it didn't act at the time because Dr Bonar wasn't

:02:57. > :03:01.governed by any one sport and it didn't pass it to the General

:03:02. > :03:05.Medical Council to investigate. John Whittingdale said he was shocked and

:03:06. > :03:09.deeply concerned about these allegations and has asked for an

:03:10. > :03:13.urgent investigation. He added that in future criminal sanction s could

:03:14. > :03:17.be considered against athletes. In response to the allegations Dr Bonar

:03:18. > :03:21.said, I do not dope or treat patients for the sole purpose of

:03:22. > :03:24.performance enhancement, even those these treatments may enhance

:03:25. > :03:29.performance as a secondary effect. These are the latest allegations to

:03:30. > :03:31.rock professional sport, an industry that without integrity loses its

:03:32. > :03:35.appeal. David on Steen, BBC News. The Business Secretary says

:03:36. > :03:37.the Government is committed to making sure Port Talbot

:03:38. > :03:40.steel works stays open, and is prepared to offer support

:03:41. > :03:42.to make sure a buyer comes forward. Sajid Javid said the UK steel

:03:43. > :03:45.industry has to have a future, as he didn't want to live

:03:46. > :03:48.in a country reliant Labour says with Tata Steel looking

:03:49. > :03:52.to sell all its UK interests the industry needs to be taken

:03:53. > :03:54.into public ownership - at least in the short term -

:03:55. > :03:57.if a buyer doesn't come Here's our political

:03:58. > :04:09.correspondent, Susana Mendonca. Can the British steel industry be

:04:10. > :04:13.saved? The Business Secretary says he doesn't want to see these turn

:04:14. > :04:17.aspectses at Port Talbot go cold, but with Tata pulling out of its

:04:18. > :04:20.loss-making plants in the UK the Government needs a buyer, and it is

:04:21. > :04:26.willing to pay a price to clinch a deal. I want to see steel making

:04:27. > :04:30.continuing in Port Talbot. Does that include the blast furnaces though? I

:04:31. > :04:34.want the find a buyer for the whole of the business. Of course there'll

:04:35. > :04:37.be help that needs to be provided. Because we've been working on this

:04:38. > :04:41.for weeks, I've thought carefully about the kind of help we can

:04:42. > :04:44.provide, I do feel though, for lots of reasons, after talking to Tata

:04:45. > :04:48.and many others involved in this, there will be enough time to find

:04:49. > :04:53.the right buyer working with the Government and being able to take

:04:54. > :04:57.this forward. He says the issues potential buyers of Port Talbot need

:04:58. > :05:00.to consider are the plant, what's produced there, pensions, how much

:05:01. > :05:05.it might cost to cover them, and power, the price of energy, a

:05:06. > :05:09.long-running issue for British steel suppliers. So the Government's

:05:10. > :05:13.promising assistance but not going as far as nationalisation. That's

:05:14. > :05:15.what the Labour Government did for the banks eight years ago to

:05:16. > :05:20.what the Labour Government did for them from collapse, and the shadow

:05:21. > :05:22.Chancellor said if a buyer for Port Talbot can't be found soon,

:05:23. > :05:28.nationalisation is still an option. If we haven't got that leeway and

:05:29. > :05:31.the timescale, as a fall-back yes, nationalise in the short term to

:05:32. > :05:35.stabilise the situation, prepare the sector for putting it back out to

:05:36. > :05:39.another buyer. That will give us the stability we need in the sector. If

:05:40. > :05:43.the Government allows our steel sector to close, Port Talbot to

:05:44. > :05:47.close, it could cost us between 1 and 1.5 billion to keep people on

:05:48. > :05:50.the dole and have economies collapse in those communities. So far the

:05:51. > :05:54.Government says it will encourage councils and other public bodies buy

:05:55. > :05:59.British for new building projects. There is also talk of further

:06:00. > :06:03.British for new building projects. And it will have to come up with

:06:04. > :06:07.more incentives to woo the private buyers if it wants to save the

:06:08. > :06:10.thousands of jobs that could be lost.

:06:11. > :06:12.Fighting has continued overnight in the disputed Caucasus

:06:13. > :06:15.Reports say that troops from Azerbaijan and Armenia have

:06:16. > :06:19.Fighting on Saturday left a total of 30 soldiers dead

:06:20. > :06:26.The first flight to leave Brussels airport since it was attacked 12

:06:27. > :06:30.A small ceremony was held to mark the partial reopening

:06:31. > :06:34.Just three flights will depart today - a tiny proportion of the more

:06:35. > :06:36.than 500 the airport usually handles.

:06:37. > :06:39.32 people were killed when the airport and the city's

:06:40. > :06:41.Metro were targeted by bombers linked to the so-called Islamic

:06:42. > :06:48.Some leaders from President Assad's Alawite sect in Syria have distanced

:06:49. > :06:52.The leaders say they hope to shine a light on the Alawites after a long

:06:53. > :06:56.They emphasise that the sect should not be associated

:06:57. > :07:02.with what they call the crimes of the regime.

:07:03. > :07:05.Greek coastguards have rescued a boat full of people off the island

:07:06. > :07:08.of Lesbos, less than 24 hours before Greece is due to begin returning

:07:09. > :07:10.migrants who have no claim to asylum back to Turkey.

:07:11. > :07:13.The returns are a key part of an agreement between the EU

:07:14. > :07:16.and Turkey aimed at stemming the flow of migrants

:07:17. > :07:25.From Lesbos, Sarah Rainsford sent this report.

:07:26. > :07:27.Every day, volunteers scan the Aegean for new arrivals,

:07:28. > :07:31.and every day hundreds are rescued from the sea.

:07:32. > :07:34.Many are fleeing the violence in Syria and Iraq, hoping for safety

:07:35. > :07:42.I met Rada and her family from Damascus.

:07:43. > :07:44.She told me she wants to join her son in Sweden,

:07:45. > :07:50.But Rada didn't know the rules had changed and that migrants

:07:51. > :07:56.could now be sent back from here across the sea.

:07:57. > :08:05.Every migrant who lands in Greece now is taken

:08:06. > :08:10.That's the men, the women and the children.

:08:11. > :08:13.From this closed camp they can apply for asylum,

:08:14. > :08:15.but under the new EU deal it's thought many will be

:08:16. > :08:22.When I found Rada again, that was sinking in.

:08:23. > :08:24.We are not allowed inside the camp anymore, so we spoke

:08:25. > :08:28.The family tell me they have to sleep outside.

:08:29. > :08:36.You don't look so happy as you did yesterday.

:08:37. > :08:48.This morning, though, brought new, exhausted arrivals.

:08:49. > :08:51.among them were dozens more children.

:08:52. > :08:54.Boats like this are still coming in every single day here to Greece.

:08:55. > :08:57.People being helped ashore by the volunteers, starting

:08:58. > :08:59.to smile, some of them, as they finally realise

:09:00. > :09:03.Whatever the politicians have agreed, it's clear

:09:04. > :09:06.there are still plenty of people prepared to make this journey,

:09:07. > :09:09.just hoping they can move on from here to a better

:09:10. > :09:13.But tomorrow Greece will start the deportations.

:09:14. > :09:16.Those who haven't claimed asylum will be the first to go.

:09:17. > :09:26.The fates of families like this is still uncertain.

:09:27. > :09:30.You can see more on all of today's stories on the BBC News Channel.

:09:31. > :09:53.Hello. I know it might sound a little bit vague but changeable

:09:54. > :09:57.isn't a bad word to describe the weather for the week ahead. It will

:09:58. > :10:00.be in terms of temperature. At the moment it is turning quite mild

:10:01. > :10:06.across many parts of East Anglia. Temperatures heading towards the mid

:10:07. > :10:09.teens.
