:00:20. > :00:27.Sadiq Khan has taken over as the new Mayor of London,

:00:28. > :00:29.after being elected with the biggest personal mandate of any

:00:30. > :00:36.In total, the Labour MP secured more than one point three million votes.

:00:37. > :00:39.Mr Khan said he was humbled by his win, and said London had

:00:40. > :00:46.Some Conservatives have joined Labour in criticising the tone

:00:47. > :00:49.of the campaign run by the Tory candidate, Zac Goldsmith.

:00:50. > :01:01.APPLAUSE. The first Muslim Mayor of A major

:01:02. > :01:07.western city has picked Southwark Cathedral to be sworn in. He has

:01:08. > :01:13.done so very deliberately. His Conservative rival, tried to

:01:14. > :01:17.associate Sadiq Khan with Islamic extremist, something that Labour

:01:18. > :01:25.deny, Sadiq Khan said that his message to the capital was clear.

:01:26. > :01:29.I'm determined to lead the most transparent, engaged and accessible

:01:30. > :01:35.administration London as ever seen. And to represent every single

:01:36. > :01:41.community and every single part of our city as Mayor for all Londoners.

:01:42. > :01:48.But whilst Labour celebrates, there are big questions about the Tory

:01:49. > :01:53.campaign. Eve Zac Goldsmith's sister said it did not reflect his

:01:54. > :01:59.personality and lady Varsi, tweeted it had been appalling.

:02:00. > :02:04.. It is rather careless to allow your campaign to be characterised in

:02:05. > :02:09.that way. It is amazing that of all people, it is Zac Goldsmith who ends

:02:10. > :02:12.up, if you like, bringing the nasty party label to the Conservative

:02:13. > :02:16.Party. So, what has Zac Goldsmith had to

:02:17. > :02:24.say? Well, not a lot. Did you run too negative a campaign,

:02:25. > :02:30.Mr Goldsmith? Mr Goldsmith, any words at all? It was left to others

:02:31. > :02:35.to do the explaining. In an election for one of the most

:02:36. > :02:40.important elective offices in Britain, it is right that people are

:02:41. > :02:44.scrutinised as candidates, their past associations and their policy

:02:45. > :02:49.positions but he answered them. That is over now. We want to work with

:02:50. > :02:55.him. Today then is Sadiq Khan's day and

:02:56. > :02:55.for Labour a rare moment to savour a victory.

:02:56. > :02:58.Our Political Correspondent Alex Forsyth is outside

:02:59. > :03:10.Alex - he chose this venue - how symbolic is it?

:03:11. > :03:16.Well, you heard from Sadiq Khan. He chose it as he said he wants to show

:03:17. > :03:22.he is a Mayor for all Londoners. There is a packed audience in there,

:03:23. > :03:29.again chosen to reflect the diversity of the city. As Sadiq Khan

:03:30. > :03:37.came in, there was a standing ovation and from Baroness Lawrence,

:03:38. > :03:43.who introduced him as a chance for chewnity and tolerance.

:03:44. > :03:48.It is a very full ceremony which is ongoing. Among those attending was

:03:49. > :03:55.the former Labour leader, Ed Miliband in the front row, sitting

:03:56. > :03:58.next to Bernard Hogan-Howe. But a notable absence, no sign so far of

:03:59. > :04:01.the current Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

:04:02. > :04:03.The final results of the election for Northern Ireland's Assembly

:04:04. > :04:06.Over three quarters of seats have been filled

:04:07. > :04:09.and the Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Fein are set to remain

:04:10. > :04:18.Our Ireland correspondent Chris Buckler reports.

:04:19. > :04:26.Northern Ireland has a history of big political figures, and with this

:04:27. > :04:30.election result, Arlene Foster has marked herself out as the new face

:04:31. > :04:34.of unionism. Absolutely delighted a very good day

:04:35. > :04:39.for the party. She has led the Democratic Unionist

:04:40. > :04:41.Party to a significant victory and will once again be Stormont's First

:04:42. > :04:45.Minister. I said that I wanted to lead from

:04:46. > :04:49.the front. I have done that. Led from the front. Setting out our

:04:50. > :04:52.plans clearly, I think that the people of Northern Ireland have

:04:53. > :04:56.bought into those plans. Sinn Fein will be the other force in

:04:57. > :05:00.Northern Ireland's new Assembly. Having held on to their position as

:05:01. > :05:05.Stormont's second biggest party. Although they did face some

:05:06. > :05:11.challenges. In Sinn Fein's traditional heartland of West

:05:12. > :05:14.Belfast, it want an anti-austerity candidate that topped the poll. The

:05:15. > :05:18.People Before Profit also won a second seat. They say that they are

:05:19. > :05:24.in tune with people who feel let down by Stormont.

:05:25. > :05:30.There is disillusionment with the political establishment. And it is a

:05:31. > :05:33.reflection of this. It is discontent with a political system right across

:05:34. > :05:37.the world. Provided that they win enough seats,

:05:38. > :05:43.all of Northern Ireland's biggest parties are entitled to enter the

:05:44. > :05:47.power-sharing coalition at Stormont. However, after disappointing

:05:48. > :05:50.results, both the Ulster Unionist and the SDLP S may consider entering

:05:51. > :05:53.the opposition, rather than government. The election may yet to

:05:54. > :05:54.lead to change at Stormont. The election may yet to lead

:05:55. > :05:57.to change at Stormont. Junior doctors' leaders are meeting
