:00:24. > :00:28.The ambition of EU leaders to create a single European state have been

:00:29. > :00:31.compared to the aims of Adolf Hitler by the Vote Leave

:00:32. > :00:36.In an article in a Sunday newspaper, Mr Johnson said both the Nazi

:00:37. > :00:38.leader and the current EU shared similar goals,

:00:39. > :00:40.but today's politicians were getting there by stealth rather than force.

:00:41. > :00:43.His comments have been criticised as "deeply offensive" by those

:00:44. > :00:53.Here's our political correspondent, Carole Walker.

:00:54. > :01:00.Boris, Boris. I don the campaign Trail, Boris Johnson makes the most

:01:01. > :01:05.of every photo opportunity to press his case for leaving the European

:01:06. > :01:09.Union. Now he has certainly sees the headlines, comparing EU efforts to

:01:10. > :01:14.build a superstate to Hitler's attempt to dominate the continent.

:01:15. > :01:18.The classical scholar said the last 2000 years of European history had

:01:19. > :01:23.seemed doomed attempts to recreate the Roman Empire, by trying to unify

:01:24. > :01:25.it. Napoleon, Hitler, various people tried this out and it ends

:01:26. > :01:50.tragically. The EU is an attempt to do this by different

:01:51. > :01:52.methods. Fellow campaigners defended him. It is a historical fact of life

:01:53. > :01:55.that if you go through Napoleon... You think that Hitler's efforts to

:01:56. > :01:59.unify Europe, and I put that", is the same as the efforts of the

:02:00. > :02:02.European Union. Any comparison between heckler who inflicted so

:02:03. > :02:05.much death and destruction with the current generation of EU leaders was

:02:06. > :02:10.always going to be inflammatory and there has been a strong reaction

:02:11. > :02:17.from the In campaign. To try and come pair Hitler and the 90s, the

:02:18. > :02:20.millions of people who died in the Second World War, the Holocaust,

:02:21. > :02:24.with a free democracies of Europe coming together to trade and

:02:25. > :02:27.incorporate, and in the process trying to bring peace to the

:02:28. > :02:32.continent of Europe after centuries of war, that is frankly deeply

:02:33. > :02:36.offensive. The Prime Minister has said the EU is a force for peace and

:02:37. > :02:41.stability which could be put at risk if the UK votes to leave. Both sides

:02:42. > :02:45.know they cannot just rely on economic arguments but the former

:02:46. > :02:49.London mayor will be hoping that his appeal for Britain to stand up to

:02:50. > :02:53.the EU was to the hearts of voters. With less than six weeks to go

:02:54. > :02:58.before the referendum, both sides have ratcheted up the rhetoric in an

:02:59. > :03:02.attempt to sway the voters. It is unclear whether people will respond

:03:03. > :03:06.to those passionate arrogance about our destiny, or whether they will

:03:07. > :03:09.make more practical, down-to-earth judgments about whether they believe

:03:10. > :03:11.they will be better off in or out of the European Union.

:03:12. > :03:14.At least 14 people have been killed and more than 20 wounded

:03:15. > :03:16.in a suicide bomb attack by so-called Islamic State

:03:17. > :03:19.on a gas installation north of the Iraqi capital,

:03:20. > :03:23.An Iraqi military spokesman said a car bomb was detonated

:03:24. > :03:27.Six attackers wearing explosive vests then entered

:03:28. > :03:29.the facility where they clashed with security forces.

:03:30. > :03:41.Police in Kosovo have arrested a former Roman Catholic priest

:03:42. > :03:43.from Britain in connection with historical child

:03:44. > :03:46.A European Arrest Warrant had been issued for Lawrence Soper,

:03:47. > :03:51.who is wanted in connection with child sex offences allegedly

:03:52. > :03:54.carried out while he taught at an independent school in West

:03:55. > :03:57.The government is to outline more support for the hundreds of

:03:58. > :04:00.children in England who leave local authority care each year.

:04:01. > :04:02.David Cameron will use the Queen's Speech

:04:03. > :04:03.on Wednesday to outline the

:04:04. > :04:06.Let's speak to our correspondent, Daniela Relph, at

:04:07. > :04:12.Daniela, what's Mr Cameron proposing?

:04:13. > :04:19.These are significant changes to the care system we lead about in the

:04:20. > :04:23.Queen's speech on Wednesday. The Prime Minister has pledged to create

:04:24. > :04:27.a covenant, describing it as a promise laid out in law to everyone

:04:28. > :04:32.who has been through the care system. It would insure those who

:04:33. > :04:36.leave care would be guaranteed access to jobs, housing, and to a

:04:37. > :04:41.doctor. They would also be given a mentor or until the age of 25 who

:04:42. > :04:44.would offer them both emotional support and practical help. The

:04:45. > :05:03.Prime Minister says this is all about ensuring those who

:05:04. > :05:07.have had a difficult start in life still have a chance of a brighter

:05:08. > :05:09.future. There will also be changes on the issue of adoption. David

:05:10. > :05:12.Cameron has described himself as unashamedly pro-adoption. He wants

:05:13. > :05:14.to stop the current trend in family courts of placing children with

:05:15. > :05:17.distant relatives, rather than new families. He says you sometimes have

:05:18. > :05:20.to override family ties in favour of permanent adoption.

:05:21. > :05:22.Opposition leaders in Venezuela are warning people are ready

:05:23. > :05:24.to "explode" after the president announced a state of emergency.

:05:25. > :05:26.He has threatened to jail factory owners who have closed

:05:27. > :05:29.Businesses say they have no foreign currency

:05:30. > :05:33.It's a situation that's led to shortages of everything

:05:34. > :05:35.from beer to toilet paper in the South American country,

:05:36. > :05:38.which, despite being rich in oil, has been plunged into economic

:05:39. > :05:51.There is no more potent symbol of that than this abandoned factory.

:05:52. > :05:53.With Chinese help, it was supposed to make the rails for

:05:54. > :05:56.a new high-tech bullet train speeding across the country at 300

:05:57. > :06:01.Last year, the money ran out and local people tore the site apart

:06:02. > :06:04.Venezuela's president, Nicolas Maduro, says

:06:05. > :06:06.that the economic crisis is not his fault.

:06:07. > :06:09.In declaring a state of emergency, he blamed the USA, and the business

:06:10. > :06:11.elite in Venezuela for trying to sabotage their own country.

:06:12. > :06:15.There are many who believe his explanation.

:06:16. > :06:18.At this pro-government rally, Maduro said he would be putting

:06:19. > :06:24.the armed forces on alert to counter what he called "foreign aggression".

:06:25. > :06:28.Next Saturday, I have called for the armed forces and the militia

:06:29. > :06:31.to hold national military exercises to prepare us for any scenario

:06:32. > :06:33.because this land is sacred and we should make sure

:06:34. > :06:42.On the other side of the capital, Caracas, a counter demonstration

:06:43. > :06:44.by those who believe Maduro is responsible for most

:06:45. > :06:53.They are calling for a referendum to expel him from power.

:06:54. > :06:56.This is our right to peaceful protest.

:06:57. > :06:58.All Venezuelans have to tell the president and the world

:06:59. > :07:06.I am tired of this tragedy and everything.

:07:07. > :07:09.I just want Maduro to leave quietly and peacefully.

:07:10. > :07:19.Sitting on the world's largest oil reserves, Venezuela should

:07:20. > :07:21.be a wealthy country, but its people having endured years

:07:22. > :07:23.of shortages in everything from medicines to toilet paper.

:07:24. > :07:26.And now with one of the country's last breweries shutting

:07:27. > :07:33.down, they cannot even drown their sorrows.

:07:34. > :07:38.Now, for once the winner of this year's Eurovision song contest

:07:39. > :07:40.didn't chose love or peace as their subject matter.

:07:41. > :07:42.Instead, Ukraine won with a political protest

:07:43. > :07:44.about Stalin's atrocities in

:07:45. > :07:54.The Ukrainian singer Jamala beat favourites Russia

:07:55. > :07:56.with her song entitled 1944, about the

:07:57. > :08:01.Joe and Jake, who represented the UK with their song, You're Not Alone,

:08:02. > :08:06.The Flying Scotsman will be travelling through

:08:07. > :08:09.the Scottish Borders later today after Network Rail reversed

:08:10. > :08:16.On Friday, the company said it wasn't able to check

:08:17. > :08:18.if the locomotive would fit on the platforms and under bridges

:08:19. > :08:21.But the rail operator has now changed its mind,

:08:22. > :08:28.It is one of the world's most famous engines,

:08:29. > :08:33.The Flying Scotsman has made its way to Scotland

:08:34. > :08:40.For two years, plans have been under way for the locomotive to visit

:08:41. > :08:44.the newly reopened Borders railway and parts of Fife.

:08:45. > :08:47.But on Friday, Network Rail said they did not have the right data

:08:48. > :08:51.to gauge the engine so that part of the trip had to be cancelled.

:08:52. > :08:53.There was anger from the Scottish government, the train

:08:54. > :08:55.Hundreds had bought tickets for the once-in-a-lifetime

:08:56. > :09:01.We had planned to go and see it when it was going to come up.

:09:02. > :09:04.There are going to be a lot of people disappointed.

:09:05. > :09:08.I just love trains and I have always wanted to see the Flying Scotsman.

:09:09. > :09:11.We have been looking forward to seeing it and being around it,

:09:12. > :09:13.because it is coming here for servicing as well.

:09:14. > :09:21.But just when all seemed lost, Network Rail announced

:09:22. > :09:26.The focus of that will be to figure out what went wrong,

:09:27. > :09:28.to learn lessons from that, and to make sure it

:09:29. > :09:33.For nearly 100 years, on and off, the Flying Scotsman has
