:00:24. > :00:26.British Olympian of all time, after Britain's cyclists claimed

:00:27. > :00:30.their first gold of the Rio Games in the velodrome last night.

:00:31. > :00:32.Sir Bradley and the cycling pursuit team set the world

:00:33. > :00:36.Team GB now sits third in the medal table.

:00:37. > :00:42.Sir Bradley Wiggins, a knight of the realm

:00:43. > :00:51.He becomes the most decorated British Olympic athlete of all time.

:00:52. > :00:55.The man who does things his own way, but he could not do this alone.

:00:56. > :00:57.With Ed Clancy, Owain Doull and Steven Burke, he had

:00:58. > :00:59.already broken the world record in qualifying.

:01:00. > :01:04.Now they need something even more special.

:01:05. > :01:07.Australia into the lead, but this is a British team that

:01:08. > :01:21.It is coming down to the last lap, will it be Britain or Australia?

:01:22. > :01:23.It certainly will be Great Britain and in a world-record time!

:01:24. > :01:26.The last 12 months we have pretty much done everything together,

:01:27. > :01:29.early morning starts at the track, late finishes at the track before

:01:30. > :01:32.For Jazz Carlin, this has been a Games to remember.

:01:33. > :01:40.Already one silver medal won, now a chance to get on the podium again.

:01:41. > :01:42.But against the American Katie Ledecky, who already had three

:01:43. > :01:44.golds from these Games, this was perhaps always

:01:45. > :01:58.Still, that was a race Carlin was winning.

:01:59. > :02:00.Ledecky breaking her own world record, Carlin a second

:02:01. > :02:04.Sometimes the most magical moments are those that are least expected.

:02:05. > :02:06.Britain has never won an Olympic medal in trampolining,

:02:07. > :02:09.but here was Bryony Page, writing her own piece of history.

:02:10. > :02:11.A sport that requires leaps higher than two double-decker buses,

:02:12. > :02:15.Page was now reaching heights that no British woman had before.

:02:16. > :02:20.This routine catapulted her to the top of the leaderboard.

:02:21. > :02:22.Now all she could do was wait and watch.

:02:23. > :02:25.Only Canada's Rosannagh MacLennan could do better.

:02:26. > :02:33.Bryony Page is an Olympic silver medallist!

:02:34. > :02:50.I can't believe I have won an Olympic medal.

:02:51. > :02:52.There are few sports more eagerly anticipated the start

:02:53. > :02:56.Perhaps a disappointment there were not more inside to see

:02:57. > :02:59.it, but, for British fans, there was plenty in the heptathlon

:03:00. > :03:01.Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Olympic champion,

:03:02. > :03:04.The 100 metre hurdles, one of Ennis-Hill's strongest events,

:03:05. > :03:06.put her into the lead, but in Katarina Johnson-Thompson,

:03:07. > :03:09.she has a British rival that can push her all the way.

:03:10. > :03:12.Her clearance of 1.98 metres, a new British record.

:03:13. > :03:15.If it is to be a battle between these two, the 200 metres

:03:16. > :03:20.Johnson-Thompson's win leaving her in fourth.

:03:21. > :03:22.Ennis-Hill once again leads the field going

:03:23. > :03:26.Another winner from that fabled Super Saturday

:03:27. > :03:35.He did just enough to qualify for the long jump final.

:03:36. > :03:40.We have Jessica standing there, and Kat bringing up the rear,

:03:41. > :03:46.With another Super Saturday in store, Sir Bradley Wiggins may

:03:47. > :03:49.just have started a weekend of British sporting success.

:03:50. > :03:57.There's a chance of more medals in the velodrome later today.

:03:58. > :04:09.Is it going to be a super Saturday? It could well be, Gavin. After that

:04:10. > :04:13.historic night for Sir Bradley Wiggins and the men's team pursuit,

:04:14. > :04:18.the women's team pursuit go for gold today, they are the defending

:04:19. > :04:23.champions from London 2012. Also hopes for Becky James in the key

:04:24. > :04:29.ring. As you say, a huge day in the athletics, could it be another super

:04:30. > :04:33.Saturday, could history repeat itself? Jessica Ennis-Hill leading

:04:34. > :04:37.the heptathlon at the halfway stage, Greg Rutherford through to the long

:04:38. > :04:42.jump final, albeit after something of a scare, and Mo Farah in the

:04:43. > :04:46.10,000 metres. It could be another very special night for team GB Inbee

:04:47. > :04:51.athletics. We also see Usain Bolt for the first time here in Rio, he

:04:52. > :04:55.goes in the heat of the 100 metres. More British medal hopes in the

:04:56. > :05:03.roving, the men's and women's aid, both with medal chances, and Michael

:05:04. > :05:06.Phelps will be hoping to round off his extraordinary career with a 23rd

:05:07. > :05:08.Olympic title in the pool. Andy, thanks very much.

:05:09. > :05:10.The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, has promised

:05:11. > :05:13.to guarantee EU funding for farmers and scientists after

:05:14. > :05:16.The move could cost up to ?4.5 billion a year,

:05:17. > :05:19.but it will only apply to projects agreed before the Autumn Statement,

:05:20. > :05:24.Our political correspondent Eleanor Garnier joins me now.

:05:25. > :05:31.How significant is all this? You will remember farmers and scientists

:05:32. > :05:35.have been worried that the money they get from the EU might disappear

:05:36. > :05:39.once Britain leaves the EU. Today they are being told anything that is

:05:40. > :05:43.an EU funded project signed off ahead of the Autumn Statement,

:05:44. > :05:47.normally around November, will not lose out financially. The bill will

:05:48. > :05:51.effectively be picked up by the taxpayer. If you are a farmer

:05:52. > :05:55.getting direct funding from the EU, that has been guaranteed by the

:05:56. > :05:59.Treasury until 2020. Many affected groups have welcomed the news,

:06:00. > :06:03.saying it provides a much-needed short-term certainty but there are

:06:04. > :06:07.big questions and concerns over the long-term future of the funding. The

:06:08. > :06:12.point of today's announcement was to try to boost the economy in what

:06:13. > :06:16.could be a very difficult time, economically, post-Brexit vote in

:06:17. > :06:20.June. Remember, if economic growth is lower than expected, it means

:06:21. > :06:24.less money coming into the Treasury, and much harder and harder decisions

:06:25. > :06:27.for the Chancellor to make. Eleanor, thanks very much.

:06:28. > :06:30.The father and ex-husband of a woman from Bradford who was killed

:06:31. > :06:32.while visiting her family have appeared in court in Pakistan.

:06:33. > :06:34.Saima Shahid, who was 28, was strangled.

:06:35. > :06:36.Mohammad Shakeel, Samia's first husband, is being held

:06:37. > :06:39.Her father, Choudhry Shahid, is under investigation

:06:40. > :06:44.The men have been remanded in custody for four days.

:06:45. > :06:49.You can see more on all of today's stories on the BBC News Channel.
