:00:00. > :00:08.Laura Trott becomes the first British female Olympian

:00:09. > :00:18.She leads the women's cyclists to victory in the team pursuit

:00:19. > :00:31.It just felt like this machine had finally come together.

:00:32. > :00:34.And there's gold too in the rowing as the men's eights reclaimed

:00:35. > :00:41.the Olympic title for the first time since the Sydney games in 2000.

:00:42. > :00:46.We will have all the latest from Rio and more medal prospects to come.

:00:47. > :00:48.Also tonight. Relief for many as the Government

:00:49. > :00:50.says it will guarantee EU-funded projects when Britain

:00:51. > :00:52.leaves the Union. The father and ex-husband

:00:53. > :00:56.of a British woman, suspected to be the victim of a so-called honour

:00:57. > :00:57.killing, appear The cyclist Laura Trott has become

:00:58. > :01:24.the first British woman to win three She led the women's team

:01:25. > :01:28.pursuit in the final against the United States,

:01:29. > :01:31.at the velodrome at Rio - breaking the world record

:01:32. > :01:33.in the process. And moments later, her team-mate

:01:34. > :01:35.Becky James claimed silver Earlier in the day, there was more

:01:36. > :01:40.success for Britain's rowers. The men's eight won

:01:41. > :01:58.gold in their final - Would it be another night for

:01:59. > :02:02.British pedal power? The women's team pursuit, Olympic champions,

:02:03. > :02:09.world record holders. Now is to live up to their billing. For Laura Trott

:02:10. > :02:12.Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald and John Russell shunned it would be a

:02:13. > :02:19.challenge. The USA had looked quick but just when it mattered, they were

:02:20. > :02:24.unstoppable. Gold for Great Britain! That smashed the world record. Cue

:02:25. > :02:27.jubilation and for Laura Trott a place in the record books, the first

:02:28. > :02:33.British woman to wind three Olympic gold medals. On the start line and

:02:34. > :02:37.it was something I wanted to achieve and to do it alongside these three

:02:38. > :02:41.girls was incredible. The feeling we were getting riding around, it felt

:02:42. > :02:47.like this machine had finally come together. And we knew we could

:02:48. > :02:50.achieve the time. Have also British hopes in the women's keirin, Becky

:02:51. > :02:55.James has battled illness and injury to get here. In the final she

:02:56. > :02:58.powered around the outside for a superb silver. After all she has

:02:59. > :03:06.been through, the most emotional medals. It was another spectacular

:03:07. > :03:12.day at the rowing. Time for the big boats, the gates. And after bronze

:03:13. > :03:16.in London, the British men produced a golden performance. The lead from

:03:17. > :03:23.start to finish while the rival spot close, they were not enough. It is

:03:24. > :03:29.Great Britain! Dominant and quite dazzling as a display. That was the

:03:30. > :03:34.angriest, the fiercest, the ruthless, absolutely everything. It

:03:35. > :03:40.was very aggressive. That was really good. It was also a first-ever

:03:41. > :03:47.British medal in the women's eight as they searched through for silver

:03:48. > :03:51.in a photo finish. There was another silver in the swimming pool, a

:03:52. > :03:55.second for Jazz Carlin, although neither she nor anyone else could

:03:56. > :03:59.get remotely close to Katie Ledecky, the American winning her fourth gold

:04:00. > :04:05.of the games. Michael Phelps was chasing his fifth. But for once it

:04:06. > :04:10.did not quite follow the script. Michael Phelps in a 3-way tie for

:04:11. > :04:16.silver behind joseph schooling of Singapore. A case of van bleeding

:04:17. > :04:22.hero a youngster had his photo taken with Michael Phelps, now just a

:04:23. > :04:28.schooling had defeated him on the bigger stage of all. And Andy Murray

:04:29. > :04:32.Tudor 's final, no player has ever one single back-to-back goals. But a

:04:33. > :04:41.man used to making history could be about to make some more. Another

:04:42. > :04:46.great day for Team GB and more medal is guaranteed here in the velodrome

:04:47. > :04:50.tomorrow because Callum Skinner and Jason Kenny are currently in the

:04:51. > :04:53.semifinals of the men's sprint and after two excellent days for the

:04:54. > :04:56.cyclists, it could be another one tomorrow.

:04:57. > :04:59.So halfway through Day 8 of the Rio Games and this is how

:05:00. > :05:03.Team GB are currently in third place behind the United States

:05:04. > :05:06.and China with 9 Golds, 11 Silvers and 6 Bronze Medals

:05:07. > :05:23.the British heptathlete Jessica Ennis Hill and Johnson Thompson have

:05:24. > :05:25.also been in action. Four years ago, Jessica Ennis Hill

:05:26. > :05:33.secured her place in the heart of the nation by dominating

:05:34. > :05:36.the heptathlon on her way to one of the defining golds

:05:37. > :05:38.of the London games. This time, she is facing

:05:39. > :05:40.more of a fight. Having led overnight,

:05:41. > :05:44.Ennis Hill is now in second place. As she bids to become the first

:05:45. > :06:01.British woman in history to rain -- to retain an Olympic

:06:02. > :06:03.title in athletics. Just two years after

:06:04. > :06:06.the birth of her son. Her long jump this morning bettered

:06:07. > :06:08.by Belgium's Darya Klishina who now leads with just two

:06:09. > :06:11.of the seven events left. Britain's Katrina Johnson Thompson

:06:12. > :06:13.still very much in contention With an improved crowd

:06:14. > :06:16.after yesterday's empty seats, it was no surprise that the loudest

:06:17. > :06:19.cheer of the afternoon was reserved Usain Bolt starting his campaign

:06:20. > :06:26.for the historic hat-trick of sprint titles for the third successive

:06:27. > :06:28.Olympics. The Jamaican was slow out

:06:29. > :06:30.of the blocks, but despite some sluggishness he still

:06:31. > :06:33.cruised to victory. Alongside him, Britain's

:06:34. > :06:39.James Dasaolu squeezing into the semifinals as one

:06:40. > :06:54.of the fastest losers. The noise of the crowd generates, it

:06:55. > :07:01.makes the heat extra special. You kind of just have to focus.

:07:02. > :07:05.Christine Ohuruogu had to rely on the discretion of the Team GB

:07:06. > :07:10.selectors to earn her spot in real after a bout of illness but that

:07:11. > :07:16.faith was rewarded as she built her place in the 400 metres semifinal.

:07:17. > :07:18.This evening however is all about those British athletes who made

:07:19. > :07:23.super Saturday such an unforgettable one of four years ago. Greg

:07:24. > :07:28.Rutherford defences long jump title after sneaking into the final

:07:29. > :07:33.following a tricky heat. And then there is Mo Farah, aiming to emulate

:07:34. > :07:38.his two long-distance gold medals in London. Tonight 10,000 metres, the

:07:39. > :07:39.first half of a feat that would further elevate him among the greats

:07:40. > :07:41.of the sport. Dan, in London 2012

:07:42. > :07:44.is was Super Saturday. Could we be having a possible

:07:45. > :07:54.repeat? It is going to take some doing. Do

:07:55. > :08:00.not forget Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford

:08:01. > :08:03.delivered arguably the finest hour of British in the past four years

:08:04. > :08:08.ago London and the space of an unforgettable 46 minutes, all three

:08:09. > :08:12.got Olympic gold on home soil. Will there be a sequel to super Saturday,

:08:13. > :08:16.where about to find out. For British fans perhaps we should call that

:08:17. > :08:20.super Sunday morning, all three in action in the early hours of

:08:21. > :08:24.tomorrow, your time. Greg Rutherford first up is around ten to one,

:08:25. > :08:28.starting his bid to retain his long jump gold. Then half an hour later

:08:29. > :08:32.we will see Mo Farah begin his quest for what would be historic distance

:08:33. > :08:36.running double, perhaps represented the best chance of a gold for

:08:37. > :08:40.Britain tonight at the stadium. And then Jessica Ennis-Hill at ten to

:08:41. > :08:43.three your time, we'll try to become just the third woman in Olympic

:08:44. > :08:49.history to retain the title having become a mother. After the

:08:50. > :08:53.disappointing attendance yesterday with all those empty seats, it was

:08:54. > :08:57.better this morning and we expect a great atmosphere for what could be a

:08:58. > :09:00.historic night later. There has been a lot of success already for Team GB

:09:01. > :09:04.and that breeds momentum but also expectation, do not be surprised if

:09:05. > :09:10.all three do not deliver a budget might just happen. It could just be

:09:11. > :09:12.worth staying up for. -- but it might just happen.

:09:13. > :09:15.The government says it will fill the gap in funding for projects such

:09:16. > :09:18.as scientific research and farming that will open up after Britain

:09:19. > :09:21.The move could cost as much as six billion pounds

:09:22. > :09:24.a year and will come as a relief to many as our

:09:25. > :09:25.Political Correspondent Eleanor Garnier explains.

:09:26. > :09:28.Across farms up and down the country, in science

:09:29. > :09:32.labs and businesses, too, many are worried

:09:33. > :09:36.what life outside the EU will mean for their funding.

:09:37. > :09:39.Now, in an attempt to boost the economy, they are being told

:09:40. > :09:44.there is no need to worry - the taxpayer will pick up the bill.

:09:45. > :09:47.What we're doing here is guaranteeing that projects that

:09:48. > :09:51.have already been signed, or are going to be signed

:09:52. > :09:53.over the coming monthss, even if the payment of those funds

:09:54. > :09:57.runs on beyond the time we leave the EU, will be guaranteed

:09:58. > :10:01.by the British government to the recipients.

:10:02. > :10:03.This means direct funding for farmers is being

:10:04. > :10:09.Science and university projects given the go-ahead before we leave

:10:10. > :10:13.the EU will be backed up by the government.

:10:14. > :10:17.And elsewhere, things like infrastructure projects will be

:10:18. > :10:20.funded, as long as they have been signed off before the Autumn

:10:21. > :10:24.Those affected have welcomed some certainty, but a far bigger

:10:25. > :10:30.concern is what will happen further into the future.

:10:31. > :10:33.We are hopeful that the overall support for science will remain

:10:34. > :10:38.unchanged even after we leave the EU, but at least as important

:10:39. > :10:42.as the funding itself are our collaborations

:10:43. > :10:46.in large-scale programmes and large-scale endeavours

:10:47. > :10:53.Here at the Treasury, they will be hoping this

:10:54. > :10:56.announcement creates some certainty in what could be a difficult

:10:57. > :11:00.economic time after that vote to leave the EU.

:11:01. > :11:03.But if growth is lower than expected, it will mean

:11:04. > :11:05.less money coming in, leaving the Chancellor

:11:06. > :11:12.Once the UK leaves the EU, it will stop sending millions

:11:13. > :11:17.The health of the economy and the government's policy

:11:18. > :11:25.priorities will then dictate where it all ends up being spent.

:11:26. > :11:30.The ex-husband and father of a woman from Bradford -

:11:31. > :11:32.suspected to be the victim of so-called "honour"

:11:33. > :11:35.killing - have appeared in a court in Pakistan.

:11:36. > :11:37.Samia Shahid - who was 28 - was killed while visiting

:11:38. > :11:41.Her first husband is being held on suspicion of murder,

:11:42. > :11:44.her father is under investigation as an accessory to murder.

:11:45. > :11:52.Our correspondent Shaimaa Khalil reports from the court.

:11:53. > :11:56.Shackled, with their faces covered, Samia's father, Choudhry Shahid,

:11:57. > :11:58.and her ex-husband, Mohammed Shakeel, were

:11:59. > :12:03.One of the officers told us they kept their identities

:12:04. > :12:12.Police say Samia died of asphyxiation.

:12:13. > :12:16.Her ex-husband, who is also her cousin, is the prime suspect.

:12:17. > :12:21.Her father is now being probed as an accessory to her murder.

:12:22. > :12:28.The media were not allowed in, but the hearing did not last long.

:12:29. > :12:30.Shakeel and Shahid were brought to this court room,

:12:31. > :12:33.and the hearing could not have lasted more than two minutes, -

:12:34. > :12:37.The judge remanded them in custody for four days while the

:12:38. > :12:40.Samia was married to her cousin in Pakistan.

:12:41. > :12:43.She then travelled to the UK, filed for divorce, and got married

:12:44. > :12:45.to her second husband, Mukhtar Kazam, in Leeds,

:12:46. > :12:50.Mukhtar claims that her family killed her for marrying

:12:51. > :12:57.The police say they have not yet determined the motive.

:12:58. > :13:00.In July, Samia travelled to a small village in

:13:01. > :13:08.Samia also visited one of her friends when she

:13:09. > :13:13.She did not want to be filmed or for her name to be mentioned.

:13:14. > :13:16.What was Samia like the last time you saw her?

:13:17. > :13:38.As Samia's father and ex-husband left court, investigations continue.

:13:39. > :13:42.Police have denied reports that Mohammed Shakeel has confessed.

:13:43. > :13:44.Both men will be questioned over the next four days before

:13:45. > :13:55.A man has set fire to a woman on a train in Switzerland

:13:56. > :13:58.and stabbed other passengers - including a six-year-old child.

:13:59. > :14:01.Police in the north-east of the country say the 27-year-old

:14:02. > :14:03.man set the carriage alight and attacked passengers leaving six

:14:04. > :14:07.people in hospital some with serious injuries.

:14:08. > :14:09.The man, a Swiss national, appears to have acted alone

:14:10. > :14:17.Police say it's unlikely the incident was terror related.

:14:18. > :14:19.Jeremy Corbyn says Labour must look at its rules to ensure

:14:20. > :14:22.new members are not barred from voting in leadership

:14:23. > :14:25.At a rally today - the Labour leader asked

:14:26. > :14:28.the party to get on board, join in and as he put it take

:14:29. > :14:34.Hundreds of people in a northern Syrian town -

:14:35. > :14:37.used as human shields by Islamic State militants -

:14:38. > :14:41.have been freed, after IS lost control of the area.

:14:42. > :14:43.Manbij was captured yesterday by US-backed

:14:44. > :14:47.Syrian Democratic Forces after weeks of fighting.

:14:48. > :14:50.Yogita Limaye reports from Beirut.

:14:51. > :15:02.You are our heroes, she says, to the fighters

:15:03. > :15:05.You are our heroes, she says, to the fighters who drove IS out.

:15:06. > :15:09.On another street, a hug of gratitude.

:15:10. > :15:12.TRANSLATION: I feel happiness, I feel joy, and it is like a dream.

:15:13. > :15:21.The things I have seen, no one has seen.

:15:22. > :15:24.For two years, people here have endured torture.

:15:25. > :15:27.This man says his hand was cut off because he was accused

:15:28. > :15:38.And this is where IS is said to have executed those who didn't obey them.

:15:39. > :15:42.Severed heads were left hanging for days.

:15:43. > :15:45.People are eager to get rid of every symbol of the brutal rule.

:15:59. > :16:02.it's a victory that comes after two months of intense fighting.

:16:03. > :16:08.And air strikes by the US helped win the battle.

:16:09. > :16:12.Islamic State simply couldn't match the strength of this coalition.

:16:13. > :16:15.Manbij is a major loss for IS, an important link

:16:16. > :16:19.between the Turkish border and their stronghold, Raqqa.

:16:20. > :16:23.That will be the next stop for these coalition fighters.
