:00:24. > :00:29.The United States and China, two of the world's biggest producers

:00:30. > :00:32.of Greenhouse gases, have formally joined

:00:33. > :00:35.a global agreement on tackling climate change.

:00:36. > :00:38.The landmark announcement, which ratifies a deal

:00:39. > :00:40.made in Paris last year, comes ahead of the G20

:00:41. > :00:46.President Obama said it might be remembered as "the moment we finally

:00:47. > :00:58.Together China and the US are responsible for producing 40%

:00:59. > :01:02.They have now agreed to cut those emissions to keep the global average

:01:03. > :01:04.rise in temperatures below two degrees Celsius.

:01:05. > :01:06.Our China Editor Carrie Gracie reports now from the city hosting

:01:07. > :01:10.Today was the end of a two-year journey for President Xi

:01:11. > :01:18.Climate change, a rare issue where China and the United States

:01:19. > :01:24.Both presidents have invested great political capital to get here.

:01:25. > :01:27.President Xi said affective dialogue between China and the US had helped

:01:28. > :01:39.A commitment by the world's two biggest polluters to a global

:01:40. > :01:43.agreement to hold down rising temperatures.

:01:44. > :01:45.We have a saying in America, you need to put your money

:01:46. > :01:49.And when it comes combating climate change, that's what we are doing.

:01:50. > :01:55.Both the United States and China, we are leading by example.

:01:56. > :01:57.Together, China and the United States are responsible

:01:58. > :02:01.for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions.

:02:02. > :02:04.Last year, 180 countries signed the Paris agreement,

:02:05. > :02:05.but it can't come into force until at least 55

:02:06. > :02:16.In the UK, Theresa May prepared to embark on her journey to China.

:02:17. > :02:20.Her prime ministerial debut on the global stage.

:02:21. > :02:25.China's displeased by her decision to suspend the Hinkley point

:02:26. > :02:28.nuclear power project, but she was keen to echo

:02:29. > :02:31.the positive language of her predecessor.

:02:32. > :02:34.This is a golden era for UK, China relations and one

:02:35. > :02:38.of the things I'll be doing at the G20 is obviously talking

:02:39. > :02:41.to President Xi about how we can develop the strategic partnership

:02:42. > :02:50.But as China welcomes the G20 leaders, Theresa May will be just

:02:51. > :02:53.one among many talking partnerships with President Xi.

:02:54. > :02:58.On the eve of the G20 summit here, the main player has

:02:59. > :03:04.With a climate change agreement, he has set the agenda,

:03:05. > :03:07.presented himself as a bold leader and put pressure on the other big

:03:08. > :03:19.Tomorrow, there'll be more competition for the limelight.

:03:20. > :03:29.and in a relationship has appealed for "understanding"

:03:30. > :03:32.The first Church of England bishop to publicly say he is gay

:03:33. > :03:34.and in a relationship has appealed for "understanding"

:03:35. > :03:39.A group of Conservative Anglicans has criticised his appointment,

:03:40. > :03:41.said would "exacerbate" divisions within the Church of England

:03:42. > :03:44.Speaking to the BBC, Bishop Nicholas Chamberlain

:03:45. > :03:47.acknowledged some would "struggle" with his announcement

:03:48. > :03:50.and "needed to take time" as they talked about sexuality.

:03:51. > :03:51.A group of Conservative Anglicans has criticised his appointment,

:03:52. > :03:53.said would "exacerbate" divisions within the Church of England

:03:54. > :03:58.Many couldn't care less the Bishop of Grantham is gay. And in his

:03:59. > :04:04.dieses, he was uncomfortable talking about it. But he came out publicly,

:04:05. > :04:11.he said because a Sunday newspaper was about to reveal his sexuality. I

:04:12. > :04:15.am who I am. There are gay police officers, gay teachers, for all of

:04:16. > :04:21.us, our sexuality is part of who we are. I never sought to make it a

:04:22. > :04:28.secret. My focus and priority has been on my ministry, serving God and

:04:29. > :04:35.serving God's people. And I do that, as I always have done, as a gay man.

:04:36. > :04:38.The Archbishop of Canterbury said he knew the Bishop was gay and in a

:04:39. > :04:43.relationship when he appointed him, but it is completely irrelevant. And

:04:44. > :04:53.under Church of England rules, priests and bishops can be gay, as

:04:54. > :04:58.long as they are celibate. We understand the guidelines by which

:04:59. > :05:03.clergy live. That we would, nevertheless, allow my name to go

:05:04. > :05:10.forward. So it becomes a matter of trust. Ever since Gene Robinson was

:05:11. > :05:17.ordained, the first openly gay bishop in the US, traditionalists

:05:18. > :05:21.have been angry. For many, having gay bishops is heresy, a watering

:05:22. > :05:25.down of the teachings of Christ. I would say to people for whom this

:05:26. > :05:32.will be a struggle, I do respect where you are, and your convictions.

:05:33. > :05:37.I hope you will be able to understand and to listen to me and

:05:38. > :05:41.indeed to others, because there are so many different views about this

:05:42. > :05:48.subject. In Kent this year, the Archbishop of Canterbury forged an

:05:49. > :05:52.uneasy truce. But today the issue was centre stage again with

:05:53. > :05:56.traditionalists calling the Bishop of Grantham's appointment, and major

:05:57. > :06:02.error. He compared the whole issue to that of women clergy. We are

:06:03. > :06:06.similarly going to need to take time, as we continue to talk about

:06:07. > :06:09.human sexuality, that means different parts of the world will

:06:10. > :06:14.have different views and there will be different views within those

:06:15. > :06:15.parts as well. It is though, a disagreement that could yet split

:06:16. > :06:21.the church. Health officials in North Yorkshire

:06:22. > :06:23.have agreed to reconsider plans to refuse non-emergency operations

:06:24. > :06:26.to obese patients The measures, delaying surgery

:06:27. > :06:32.for up to a year, were announced by the Vale of York Commissioning Group

:06:33. > :06:34.in a bid to cut costs. NHS England said the proposals

:06:35. > :06:36.needed to be proportionate and threatened to intervene

:06:37. > :06:38.if the group didn't Our correspondent Sharon Barbour

:06:39. > :06:47.joins us from York Hospital. It sounds like they absolutely have?

:06:48. > :06:53.The plans just announced, we were told they are under review. What

:06:54. > :06:57.whether plans? Those who had a BMI of 30 or over, or smoked would have

:06:58. > :07:02.surgery delayed unless they lost weight or stop smoking. A critical

:07:03. > :07:07.reaction, the Royal College of surgeons, they said it was the most

:07:08. > :07:10.severe policy they had seen in a modern NHS. NHS England told us they

:07:11. > :07:16.hadn't been consulted about the plans as the Vale of York, which is

:07:17. > :07:20.under special measures, so NHS England can intervene, as them to

:07:21. > :07:25.reconsider this idea. Shortly, the Vale of York clinical commissioning

:07:26. > :07:30.group said they had decided it would reconsider, so they are under

:07:31. > :07:35.review. Interestingly, other CCG 's across the country have similar

:07:36. > :07:36.policies, around a third, we understand. It is something for NHS

:07:37. > :07:43.England to look into. Thank you. The government is to ban the use

:07:44. > :07:46.of tiny pieces of plastic, known as microbeads from everyday

:07:47. > :07:50.bathroom products by next year. The small pieces of plastic,

:07:51. > :07:52.commonly found in toothpaste, exfoliating body scrubs and other

:07:53. > :07:55.household products and are thought Environmentalists fear

:07:56. > :08:00.they are building up in oceans and potentially entering

:08:01. > :08:01.the food chain. Former Formula One World Champion

:08:02. > :08:07.Jenson Button has announced that he won't race next season,

:08:08. > :08:09.but will remain with The 2009 world champion,

:08:10. > :08:15.who says he wants to take a break from driving,

:08:16. > :08:18.will work with the team and could race again in 2018,

:08:19. > :08:21.having signed a two-year contract. His place will be taken by reserve

:08:22. > :08:23.driver Stoffel Vandoorne. It's the opening weekend

:08:24. > :08:26.of Rugby Union's Premiership. The champions Saracens,

:08:27. > :08:29.who are favourites to retain the title, have got off to a winning

:08:30. > :08:32.start, beating Worcester Warriors. Twickenham is where last

:08:33. > :08:40.season ended for Saracens Champions of England,

:08:41. > :08:44.champions of Europe, but even Saracens' steel can get

:08:45. > :08:46.rusty after a summer's rest. They only led Worcester Warriors

:08:47. > :08:49.by three at the break. It took a blast of hot air

:08:50. > :08:53.to smooth the creases. Four minutes into the second half,

:08:54. > :08:56.the band of Worcester gold which had held Saracens at bay,

:08:57. > :08:59.flaked in the face of fierce force. Saracens persisted with power,

:09:00. > :09:03.knowing that holes would appear. There were no Warriors available

:09:04. > :09:09.to keep Alex Lozowski from raiding. To make matters worse,

:09:10. > :09:15.Worcester lost a man to the sin bin and everybody counts when you have

:09:16. > :09:18.Schalk Burger coming at you. The summer signing who specialises

:09:19. > :09:21.in making an impact. If that was about the bulldozer,

:09:22. > :09:23.how about this for the ballet. In the final minutes,

:09:24. > :09:26.Ben Spencer went Strictly Ballroom What happens when Saracens

:09:27. > :09:36.really get started? There's more throughout the evening

:09:37. > :09:39.on the BBC News Channel, we are back with the late

:09:40. > :09:42.news at 10:00pm. Now on BBC One it's time for the

:09:43. > :09:44.news where you are.
