:00:49. > :00:53.West Bank in East Jerusalem, and the number's growing.

:00:54. > :00:56.In a rare show of unity, the UN Security Council passed its judgment

:00:57. > :01:06.Describing them as a flagrant violation of international law

:01:07. > :01:12.and a threat to any peace deal with the Palestinians.

:01:13. > :01:15.Crucially, the United States didn't use its veto power in Israel's

:01:16. > :01:20.It is because this resolution reflects the facts on the ground

:01:21. > :01:22.and is consistent with US policy across Republican and Democratic

:01:23. > :01:26.administrations throughout the history of the state of Israel,

:01:27. > :01:31.that the United States did not veto it.

:01:32. > :01:35.Israel disagrees that settlements built on land it captured

:01:36. > :01:39.in the 1967 Middle East war are illegal.

:01:40. > :01:42.At the UN, it felt betrayed by its closest ally

:01:43. > :01:45.and was especially angry about criticism of building

:01:54. > :02:01.This holy book, the Bible, contains 3000 years of history

:02:02. > :02:05.of the Jewish people in the land of Israel.

:02:06. > :02:09.No one, no one can change this history.

:02:10. > :02:13.Officially, Israel rejects the resolution and says it looks

:02:14. > :02:16.forward to working with US President-elect Donald Trump.

:02:17. > :02:22.On Twitter, he said things will be different when he's in office.

:02:23. > :02:27.Here in Bethlehem, Palestinians gathering for their annual Christmas

:02:28. > :02:33.parade, feel they have something extra to celebrate.

:02:34. > :02:35.They're calling this resolution victory and hope it will help them

:02:36. > :02:39.But Israel says it won't change its policies on settlements and it's

:02:40. > :02:41.counting on the next US administration for support.

:03:37. > :03:37.difficult time we ask that everyone respects their privacy. Thank you

:03:38. > :03:47.very much. Tunisian authorities have arrested

:03:48. > :03:49.three people who they suspect were part of a terror cell connected

:03:50. > :03:51.to the Berlin market A Government spokesman says the cell

:03:52. > :03:55.consisted of three individuals One of them is thought to be Amri's

:03:56. > :03:59.nephew who communicated with his uncle through encrypted

:04:00. > :04:01.messages and has also pledged A man and a woman have been

:04:33. > :04:37.They were arrested two weeks ago as part of an operation by the

:05:36. > :05:38.in Los Angeles after suffering what's believed to have been a heart

:05:39. > :05:44.She fell ill minutes before the plane landed.

:05:45. > :05:46.Her condition isn't clear but it's thought that

:05:47. > :05:59.doctors on board the flight helped treat her.

:06:00. > :06:01.Theresa May has urged Britain to "unite and move forward"

:06:02. > :06:03.in her first Christmas message as Prime Minister.

:06:04. > :06:06.Mrs May said the vote to leave the EU would offer Britain

:06:07. > :06:09.the opportunity to carve out a bold new role in the world.

:06:10. > :06:11.In his Christmas message, the Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn

:06:15. > :06:15.Here's our Political Correspondent, Iain Watson.

:06:16. > :06:17.The people have spoken and the answer is we're out.

:06:18. > :06:19.The EU referendum divided not just politicians

:06:20. > :06:22.So, against this backdrop, it's perhaps not surprising that

:06:23. > :06:24.in her Christmas message, the Prime Minister

:06:25. > :06:45.In a separate message recorded for the armed forces,

:06:46. > :06:47.Theresa May tells them that the government

:06:48. > :06:51.Because I want you and all your families to know that this

:06:52. > :06:55.Jeremy Corbyn says his thoughts are with those experiencing

:06:56. > :06:59.loneliness and despair at this time of year.

:07:00. > :07:01.He recently visited a homelessness charity in London and uses his

:07:02. > :07:06.Christmas message to repeat the promise he gave them.

:07:07. > :07:08.Labour has pledged to put an end to rough sleeping

:07:09. > :07:14.We would do that by doubling the number of homes available

:07:15. > :07:21.for people who have been sleeping on the street.

:07:22. > :07:23.Lib Dem leader of Tim Farron filmed his message at a centre

:07:27. > :07:28.The least traditional message was from the Greens.

:07:29. > :07:31.They say 2016 was rubbish, or words to that effect,

:07:32. > :07:36.But there's one thing most politicians can agree

:07:37. > :07:39.on and that is to wish their voters a Happy Christmas.

:07:40. > :07:46.Now with today's sports news here's Richard Askam

:07:47. > :07:52.There aren't any matches in the Premier League

:07:53. > :07:56.or Championship today but there are games in Scotland.

:07:57. > :07:59.In the Premiership the top two sides, Celtic and Rangers,

:08:00. > :08:03.Leaders Celtic are away at Hamilton Academical.

:08:04. > :08:11.They've played around 35 minutes - the best chance so far fell

:08:12. > :08:17.Second placed Rangers are aiming for their fourth consecutive win.

:08:18. > :08:21.They're playing Inverness Caledonian thistle at Ibrox.

:08:22. > :08:28.They also kicked off at 1230, Rangers currently lead 1-0

:08:29. > :08:34.They're currently part of the English Football Association

:08:35. > :08:38.but they want to join Uefa and be able to compete in their own right.

:08:39. > :08:41.Next year they take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

:08:42. > :08:53.Many the visitor who touched on Jersey's shore and left a mark. This

:08:54. > :08:58.is an island of influences but with an independent streak. An identity

:08:59. > :09:03.they want to display on the football field as a member of Uefa. The

:09:04. > :09:05.jersey FA wants thee young players to represent their island on the

:09:06. > :09:10.international stage, to play countries, not just Counties. But

:09:11. > :09:15.there is a barrier. Uefa's rules say membership is only

:09:16. > :09:18.open to countries recognised by the United Nations as an independent

:09:19. > :09:22.state. Jersey don't fit the bill. What we are saying to Uefa is that

:09:23. > :09:26.we want to challenge that independence. We are independent

:09:27. > :09:29.here in many, many ways and more independent than many of their

:09:30. > :09:35.current members. We are saying to Uefa judge us on our footballing

:09:36. > :09:38.capacity, our footballing ability. Jersey argue that Uefa already

:09:39. > :09:46.includes a number of non-UN states, Look North to the Faroe Islands part

:09:47. > :09:52.of the kingdom of Denmark or Gibraltar. Then the complicated case

:09:53. > :09:57.of Kosovo, still not fully recognised by the UN.

:09:58. > :10:02.Jersey want what they have, a chance to play in the biggest competitions

:10:03. > :10:05.for club and country. It will be massive, I think that's where

:10:06. > :10:10.football is lacking because you are playing against the same people week

:10:11. > :10:14.in, week out. Even funding at the moment, I think Uefa would bring

:10:15. > :10:21.funding for teams to expand and have better facilities. Officially Jersey

:10:22. > :10:28.are only suggesting trips to European football's Rocky outcrops,

:10:29. > :10:34.like San Marino and Malta. Why not let the imagination wander? Do you

:10:35. > :10:38.have a dream fixture in mind? Jersey against Germany for me. How do you

:10:39. > :10:43.deal with Muller marking him? Just foul him The referee that matters is

:10:44. > :10:47.the court of ash trigs for sport that will consider the case to have

:10:48. > :10:52.the application discussed. What happens in courtrooms on distant

:10:53. > :10:54.shores will decide how far Jersey football sets down this particular

:10:55. > :10:59.channel. Olympic silver medallist

:11:00. > :11:01.Juan Martin Del Potro will miss next month's Australian Open

:11:02. > :11:03.due to injury. The Argentinian has struggled

:11:04. > :11:05.with wrist problems in recent years but this summer he made the Olympic

:11:06. > :11:08.final where he was That's the sport, back

:11:09. > :11:15.to you Christian. You can see more on all of today's

:11:16. > :11:18.stories on the BBC News channel. The next news on BBC One is at

:11:19. > :11:39.6.15pm. Hello. It remains windy for the rest

:11:40. > :11:42.of this Christmas weekend, into Boxing Day, occasionally stormy in

:11:43. > :11:44.northern Scotland but parts of northern Scotland got in early on

:11:45. > :11:46.the white Christmas today.
