:04:48. > :04:49.He says the changes are needed to give the country greater

:04:50. > :04:51.political stability, and a more efficient government.

:04:52. > :04:53.But opponents argue a yes vote, would usher in authoritarianism.

:04:54. > :04:56.Here's our World Affairs Editor, John Simpson.

:04:57. > :05:02.CHANTING This was a day which could change

:05:03. > :05:05.Turkey for ever, a day when the president returned to vote in his

:05:06. > :05:10.home area in Istanbul as the nation to abolish many of the

:05:11. > :05:15.constitutions, checks and balances on him. And make it at least

:05:16. > :05:23.possible for him to stay as president until 2029. Wearing his

:05:24. > :05:29.familiar lucky jacket, he says this referendum is a choice of change and

:05:30. > :05:36.transformation for a new administrative system for our

:05:37. > :05:40.Republic. As this whole vast media circus indicates, this is an

:05:41. > :05:45.historic day, both for Turkey and its future and for the man over

:05:46. > :05:53.there who wants far more powers as its president. This is the school in

:05:54. > :05:58.an area of Istanbul where President O Goguen was once a pupil. Poorer

:05:59. > :06:04.conservative areas like this have tended to vote solidly yes. If it is

:06:05. > :06:14.important for president Bodo Gannon, he says, it is just as important for

:06:15. > :06:18.me. And indeed Mr Erdogan has done wonders for the standard of living

:06:19. > :06:23.in areas like this and he is seen as standing up to areas which haven't

:06:24. > :06:28.treated Turkey with enough respect. But in better off areas of Istanbul

:06:29. > :06:32.like this one many people worry that religious conservatives are growing

:06:33. > :06:41.in power and that freedoms are being seriously eroded. It means a lot of

:06:42. > :06:46.things for our future, children, and the democracy culture that we will

:06:47. > :06:54.have in the future. Is progresses the turnout has clearly been high,

:06:55. > :06:57.perhaps 86% but the opposition is crying foul because the Electoral

:06:58. > :07:02.Commission says non-stamped ballot papers, which haven't properly been

:07:03. > :07:07.tested, can be included in the count. The result here is still on

:07:08. > :07:10.my edge. John Simpson BBC News Istanbul.

:07:11. > :07:12.More than a hundred people, most of them children,

:07:13. > :07:14.are now thought to have died in yesterday's suicide

:07:15. > :07:19.A convoy of coaches packed with evacuees

:07:20. > :07:20.in a pre-arranged exchange between the Syrian Government

:07:21. > :07:24.and a number of rebel groups, was targetted with the car bomb.

:07:25. > :07:26.The blast happened on the outskirts of Aleppo.

:07:27. > :07:31.Here's our Diplomatic Correspondent, James Landale.

:07:32. > :07:35.This report contains some distressing images.

:07:36. > :07:40.They were heading for what they thought was safety, thousands of

:07:41. > :07:45.civilians from government held villages had been under siege by

:07:46. > :07:51.rebel forces for two years. A short bus ride from Aleppo and a better

:07:52. > :07:54.life. But then this. A massive suicide bomb attack. A vehicle

:07:55. > :08:04.supposedly carrying food packed instead with explosives. Devastating

:08:05. > :08:07.the convoy, buses and cars. A potato truck as they were hungry comes and

:08:08. > :08:13.offers for the kids potato chips, potato bags. So the kids who were

:08:14. > :08:17.very angry, some of them left the buses, went to the track and as soon

:08:18. > :08:21.as they approached it it exploded. That's where it emerged today that

:08:22. > :08:28.among the 126 dead were 60 and children. According to British-based

:08:29. > :08:31.activists who monitor the conflict. Hundreds of others injured in the

:08:32. > :08:36.attack were rushed to hospital in Aleppo. It is still not clear who

:08:37. > :08:41.was responsible for the attack on the local Islamist rebel groups have

:08:42. > :08:45.denied any involvement. The people travelling in these buses were part

:08:46. > :08:50.of a deal between government and opposition forces to evacuate

:08:51. > :08:54.civilians from towns besieged by both sides, they were attacked as

:08:55. > :08:59.they waited for another convoy to go in the south, evacuating civilians

:09:00. > :09:03.from rebel held areas. But an attack like this that left so many dead has

:09:04. > :09:07.raised doubts about whether they will be more evacuation deals in the

:09:08. > :09:11.future. Remaining survivors in the convoy continued their journey to

:09:12. > :09:17.Aleppo in relative safety. The United Nations condemned the attack

:09:18. > :09:20.and urged all sides to secure the safety of evacuees yet there are

:09:21. > :09:24.already fears that civilians in rebel held areas may now face

:09:25. > :09:26.revenge attacks. James Landale, BBC News.

:09:27. > :09:28.Special services have been held around the world

:09:29. > :09:31.Here, the Queen and Prince Philip attended

:09:32. > :09:34.a service in Windsor Castle, accompanied by several members

:09:35. > :09:37.of the Royal Family including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

:09:38. > :09:39.Meanwhile religious and political leaders,

:09:40. > :09:44.have been speaking out about the need to alleviate global

:09:45. > :09:45.suffering, and protect religious freedom.

:09:46. > :09:52.Our Religious Affairs Correspondent, Martin Bashir reports.

:09:53. > :09:59.St Peter's Square was resplendent as Pope Francis celebrated Mass and

:10:00. > :10:00.delivered the fifth Easter sermon of his papacy

:10:01. > :10:03.Pleading for an end to what he called

:10:08. > :10:09.Syria and asking that international leaders have the courage to prevent

:10:10. > :10:21.At Canterbury Cathedral, Archbishop Justin Welby drew

:10:22. > :10:25.attention to the plight of Christians in Egypt

:10:26. > :10:28.following twin bomb attacks on Palm Sunday that killed 46

:10:29. > :10:34.And he said that suffering was not confined to

:10:35. > :10:43.Christians in Egypt live surrounded by bombs and terror.

:10:44. > :10:45.But the words Jesus says on that first

:10:46. > :10:48.Easter Day, he says to you and me now.

:10:49. > :10:52.To each of us, to listen, to take hold of with our hearts.

:10:53. > :11:01.The Prime Minister in her own Easter message also focused

:11:02. > :11:05.on the issue of religious persecution.

:11:06. > :11:14.We must be mindful of Christians and religious minorities

:11:15. > :11:17.around the world who do not enjoy these same freedoms but who practise

:11:18. > :11:19.their religion in secret and often in fear.

:11:20. > :11:22.Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said that regardless of one's faith,

:11:23. > :11:25.he wanted to affirm every act of kindness that helps alleviate

:11:26. > :11:33.I meet Christians and others of all faiths

:11:34. > :11:36.and none on a daily basis who share and live these ideals.

:11:40. > :11:45.those running food banks, protecting the vulnerable, looking

:11:46. > :11:47.after the sick, the elderly and of our young people.

:12:11. > :12:13.Premier League leaders, Chelsea, were beaten by Manchester United

:12:14. > :12:15.this afternoon which means they remain just four points ahead

:12:16. > :12:19.While Jose Mourinho's United side are now in fifth place

:12:20. > :12:33.Jose Mourinho, responsible for so much of Chelsea 's success, now

:12:34. > :12:37.charged with stopping it. Perhaps the last major test for Antonio

:12:38. > :12:42.Conte's blues, Manchester United were desperate to ensure that test

:12:43. > :12:46.would not be passed, Ander Herrera to Marcus Rashford, the 19-year-old

:12:47. > :12:53.with a clinical finish, replays showed a handball in the goal stood.

:12:54. > :12:56.Cue celebrations. The form of champions this was not, Diego Costa

:12:57. > :13:00.with Chelsea's best effort as Antonio Conte reached for his

:13:01. > :13:05.thinking cap. After half-time Ander Herrera went from provider to scorer

:13:06. > :13:10.with the help of a deflection putting United on course for a first

:13:11. > :13:13.win against Chelsea in five years. The visitors pressed but were

:13:14. > :13:20.repelled as they well know Mourinho teams are nothing if not resilient.

:13:21. > :13:23.A result that keeps the title race alive. David Ornstein, BBC News.

:13:24. > :13:26.Liverpool have moved back up to third place after a 1-0 win

:13:27. > :13:29.Roberto Firminho scored the only goal of the game in added

:13:30. > :13:34.It's Liverpool's fifth win in seven games and strengthens their push

:13:35. > :13:40.Celtic have already been crowned Scottish Premiership Champions

:13:41. > :13:45.but they had to share the points today with Ross County

:13:46. > :13:49.after a controversial 89th minute penalty which even the Ross County

:13:50. > :13:51.manager, Jim McIntyre, admitted should not have been awarded.

:13:52. > :14:00.Sebastian Vettel has won Formula One's Bahrain Grand Prix,

:14:01. > :14:02.beating Britain's Lewis Hamilton in to second place.

:14:03. > :14:04.Hamilton was given a five second penalty

:14:05. > :14:07.while his Mercedes team-mate, Valteri Bottas, eventually finished

:14:08. > :14:10.in third, having started on pole in what proved to be

:14:11. > :14:22.Lewis Hamilton found himself in an unfamiliar place on the grid in

:14:23. > :14:25.Bahrain, behind his new Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas. The Finn

:14:26. > :14:30.was on pole for the first time and when the lights went out he didn't

:14:31. > :14:34.blink, beating everyone to the first corner. Hamilton, though, sees

:14:35. > :14:39.Sebastian Vettel as his main rival busier and the German took the fight

:14:40. > :14:44.to the Britain in the desert, past into second. Before the dust could
