:21:49. > :21:50.days before the general election. The Prime Minister announced it
:21:51. > :21:52.will go ahead as planned. People will go to the polls on
:21:53. > :21:56.Thursday. National campaigning has been
:21:57. > :22:06.suspended by all major The latest report on all of this
:22:07. > :22:10.comes from our political correspondent, LE price.
:22:11. > :22:18.Flags flying at half-mast over Downing Street,
:22:19. > :22:21.as senior Cabinet figures and police officials arrive at a Cobra meeting
:22:22. > :22:24.Just four days before a general election,
:22:25. > :22:25.the main parties announced they would postpone
:22:26. > :22:29.But it would get underway again tomorrow.
:22:30. > :22:33.On the one hand, clearly we want to respect the people
:22:34. > :22:41.We want to pay proper respect, and therefore, we don't
:22:42. > :22:45.But on the other hand, the people doing this are doing this
:22:46. > :22:47.because they despise the freedoms that we have.
:22:48. > :22:50.And those freedoms can be the freedom to go out on a Saturday
:22:51. > :22:52.night or the freedom to cast their vote.
:22:53. > :22:54.The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, said despite today's
:22:55. > :22:55.campaign suspension, the democratic process
:22:56. > :22:58.I can't recall any other election when there's
:22:59. > :23:07.I hope that it will not disrupt our process, because we have
:23:08. > :23:13.But I also hope we will reflect on the need to have sufficient
:23:14. > :23:15.police officers on our streets, and also sufficient intelligence
:23:16. > :23:20.But in response, as in Manchester, all communities must come together.
:23:21. > :23:23.It is right that we suspend our national campaigning.
:23:24. > :23:30.But it's also right that we get the balance right.
:23:31. > :23:32.And we are proud of our democracy, and that in the midst
:23:33. > :23:35.of an election, all parties, no matter who you support,
:23:36. > :23:38.ought to continue with that local campaigning, and we should get
:23:39. > :23:39.on with the national campaigning soon.
:23:40. > :23:47.It must not be that the terrorists put us in a position
:23:48. > :23:49.where we weaken our democracy in response to that outrage.
:23:50. > :23:52.In Scotland, the SNP leader and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon,
:23:53. > :23:54.also not campaigning, will chair a meeting of the Scottish
:23:55. > :23:56.Government's Resilience Committee in the wake of the attack.
:23:57. > :23:58.But unlike the other main political parties,
:23:59. > :24:01.Ukip say they won't suspend national campaigning today.
:24:02. > :24:04.The Prime Minister says we must not have the democratic process
:24:05. > :24:05.stopped by terrorism, therefore we're going
:24:06. > :24:14.We think we should be having an honest conversation
:24:15. > :24:17.about the real mistakes we've made in the past, and what we need
:24:18. > :24:22.This election campaign has seen two terror attacks in as many weeks.
:24:23. > :24:26.When the campaign does get back under way tomorrow,
:24:27. > :24:29.it's likely to be more muted and the issue of security firmly
:24:30. > :24:32.And our political correspondent, Ellie Price,
:24:33. > :24:45.Your thoughts about the ramifications this might have in
:24:46. > :24:49.terms of Thursday's vote. We might have just found the first thing all
:24:50. > :24:52.of the political parties agree on something the Prime Minister said a
:24:53. > :24:59.few hours ago. Violence can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic
:25:00. > :25:03.process. But there is no doubt we are in uncharted territory. The last
:25:04. > :25:08.Sunday before the election campaign, it usually is one of the busiest
:25:09. > :25:12.days before the election. All the party leaders were expected to make
:25:13. > :25:17.campaign speeches today, they have all been put on hold. There is no
:25:18. > :25:22.doubt this event will affect this campaign both in terms of tone and
:25:23. > :25:25.content. All the parties now have a difficult line to tread between
:25:26. > :25:33.being seen to respect those who have died and not be seen to be seeking
:25:34. > :25:36.to make political gain or capital out of these events, but also to be
:25:37. > :25:41.seen to address the big concern of voters which is the big issue of
:25:42. > :25:49.security. There is a sense that they will not let terrorism disrupt this
:25:50. > :25:56.campaign but it may just define it. Thank you for now. There has been

:28:31. > :28:44.Of course, this attack comes less than two weeks
