:00:20. > :00:25.The BBC understands that Conservative MPs are warning

:00:26. > :00:28.Theresa May that unless she sacks her two key advisers, she WILL face

:00:29. > :00:34.Mrs May's joint chiefs of staff Fiona Hill and Nick Timothy

:00:35. > :00:37.are being blamed for failures in the election campaign.

:00:38. > :00:39.It comes as the Prime Minister prepares for discussions

:00:40. > :00:44.with Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party to provide the extra

:00:45. > :00:46.support the Conservatives need in the House of Commons

:00:47. > :00:49.Here's our political correspondent Eleanor Garnier - her report

:00:50. > :01:05.Waiting, but waiting for what? Theresa May might still hold the

:01:06. > :01:08.keys to No 10, but she is deprived of a Commons majority, fighting to

:01:09. > :01:15.save her own job. No chance, then, to govern alone, and it is the

:01:16. > :01:22.Democratic Unionist Party the Tories have been forced to turn to. But a

:01:23. > :01:24.deal with the DWP, a party opposed to same-sex marriage and

:01:25. > :01:32.anti-abortion, is not without controversy. Luckily, we have a

:01:33. > :01:35.parliament now which is going to count in terms of any legislation

:01:36. > :01:39.which is passed. I am not going to support any legislation which I

:01:40. > :01:44.would regard as not socially liberal. And there are warnings a

:01:45. > :01:47.minority Conservative government with DUP support won't last long. We

:01:48. > :01:55.have had a 20 feet in election. Then we had a referendum. Now, we have

:01:56. > :01:58.had another general election. -- the 2015 election. So we have got to

:01:59. > :02:02.have a period when we actually reflect on things. But I want to

:02:03. > :02:05.make this clear - I don't see a minority government prospering

:02:06. > :02:12.terribly well for very long. But it is Theresa May's closest aides, Nick

:02:13. > :02:15.Timothy and Fiona Hill, who some Tories are blaming for much of what

:02:16. > :02:20.went wrong. If they are not sacked this weekend, senior Conservatives

:02:21. > :02:24.are now warning they will force Mrs May out with a leadership contest.

:02:25. > :02:28.But this now former minister running losing his seat, remains loyal to

:02:29. > :02:33.the Prime Minister. Should she stay on as Prime Minister? Yes. I think

:02:34. > :02:38.the Conservative Party has got the largest number of votes, the most

:02:39. > :02:41.MPs have we are the only party capable of forming a strong

:02:42. > :02:44.governance to take us through these Brexit negotiations, and we need to

:02:45. > :02:49.get behind Theresa May. The whole party needs to analyse the results

:02:50. > :02:54.and learn lessons. Questions about Theresa May's time here continue.

:02:55. > :02:57.She needs to back quickly to get a deal with the DWP. The Queen's

:02:58. > :03:02.Speech, where the government will set out its agenda, is in just over

:03:03. > :03:07.a week. And those crucial Brexit negotiations start in just nine

:03:08. > :03:10.days. With ultimatums now on the table, Theresa May's gamble might

:03:11. > :03:12.not just have cost the Tories their majority, but for her, her political

:03:13. > :03:15.career. Our assistant political editor,

:03:16. > :03:17.Norman Smith, is in Downing Street. How significant is this call

:03:18. > :03:31.for the two aides to be sacked? Well, we're getting a sense of just

:03:32. > :03:38.how fragile Mrs May's position is. Tory MPs have in effect issued her

:03:39. > :03:41.with this ultimatum - sack your two chief advisers will face a

:03:42. > :03:46.leadership contest. These advisers will not be known outside

:03:47. > :03:51.Westminster, but they are hugely influential, and more than that,

:03:52. > :03:53.blamed by many Conservatives for the election campaign which was widely

:03:54. > :03:58.criticised, as was the manifesto. They were accused by one former

:03:59. > :04:02.Downing Street insider this morning of creating a dysfunctional and

:04:03. > :04:06.toxic atmosphere inside No 10. But above all come in since the

:04:07. > :04:11.departure is seen by many Tory MPs as a test of Mrs May -- of Mrs May's

:04:12. > :04:16.readiness to change, to show she gets it, she understands the reverse

:04:17. > :04:20.she suffered in the election. A lot of Conservatives were aghast when

:04:21. > :04:24.she appeared in Downing Street afterwards and did not seem to

:04:25. > :04:29.accept any responsibility for what had happened. Soap opera Mrs May has

:04:30. > :04:33.now been clearly told, either these two individuals are dismissed the

:04:34. > :04:36.weekend, or she faces a leadership challenge, a challenge which would

:04:37. > :04:40.come ahead of the crucial Brexit talks. It just underlines how much

:04:41. > :04:47.pressure Mrs May is now under. There have been two further

:04:48. > :04:50.arrests in connection with In total, eight people

:04:51. > :04:55.are now in custody. Police investigating the murders say

:04:56. > :04:57.the three attackers had wanted to hire a lorry -

:04:58. > :05:00.but their card payment was declined. Our Home Affairs Correspondent

:05:01. > :05:01.Daniel Sandford reports. This was the weapon found

:05:02. > :05:04.still strapped to Khuram Butt's body He and his fellow attackers used

:05:05. > :05:09.three identical 12-inch pink knives made of ceramic

:05:10. > :05:13.to murder five people. Counter-terrorism detectives want

:05:14. > :05:15.help on where the Ernesto The men had already killed three

:05:16. > :05:20.other people on London Bridge Throughout the carnage,

:05:21. > :05:24.heroic members of the public We have stories of people who came

:05:25. > :05:34.out armed with chairs, other items, throwing bottles and anything

:05:35. > :05:36.they could get their hands on with a view to trying to prevent

:05:37. > :05:39.the attackers either coming into pubs and bars, but more

:05:40. > :05:42.importantly to scare them off to try and stop other

:05:43. > :05:45.people being attacked. Afterwards, in the van,

:05:46. > :05:50.police found 13 petrol bombs, made with lighter fluid and cloth

:05:51. > :05:52.cut from tracksuit bottoms, The day had started

:05:53. > :06:02.with the ring leader, Khuram Butt, who was on police bail,

:06:03. > :06:06.trying to hire a 7.5 tonne truck - So instead he hired the white B

:06:07. > :06:11.van in Romford which the men picked Then leaving Barking soon

:06:12. > :06:14.after 7.30pm, they set At 9.58pm they arrived

:06:15. > :06:19.at London Bridge, driving across it and then back again before ploughing

:06:20. > :06:21.into pedestrians By the time they crashed

:06:22. > :06:27.the van at 10.07pm, At 10.16pm, they were then

:06:28. > :06:36.shot dead by police. Detectives believe that behind this

:06:37. > :06:42.green door in East Ham was the men's safe house,

:06:43. > :06:44.in a top-floor bedsit, rented by Rashid Redouane

:06:45. > :06:51.two months ago. Detectives discovered items

:06:52. > :06:53.here which had been used and their fake suicide vests

:06:54. > :07:00.and an English language copy of the Koran, left open at a page

:07:01. > :07:02.referencing martyrdom. A week on from the attack,

:07:03. > :07:06.people are being urged to visit London's bars and restaurants

:07:07. > :07:08.in a show of "unity and resilience". The British Red Cross has

:07:09. > :07:11.launched a campaign calling for people to go out

:07:12. > :07:13.in the capital tonight. Theatres, bars, restaurants and taxi

:07:14. > :07:16.services will be donating some of this evening's proceeds to those

:07:17. > :07:19.affected in the attack The Duke of Edinburgh

:07:20. > :07:22.is celebrating his 96th birthday today - his last before he steps

:07:23. > :07:25.down from official duties. Philip will spend his birthday

:07:26. > :07:29.privately at Windsor Castle. Next week, he's expected to help

:07:30. > :07:31.the Queen celebrate her official 91st birthday at the annual Trooping

:07:32. > :07:35.the Colour parade. With all the sport,

:07:36. > :07:48.here's Mike Bushell Good afternoon. There is a spring in

:07:49. > :07:51.the step of the British and Irish Lions rugby team now after they won

:07:52. > :07:58.their most challenging match on their tour of New Zealand so far.

:07:59. > :08:02.They beat the Crusaders 12-3 in Christchurch, and it was really

:08:03. > :08:05.about the boot of Owen Farrell. This was the time for the British and

:08:06. > :08:09.Irish Lions to call in the cavalry in Canterbury. The Crusaders are

:08:10. > :08:16.regarded as the best club team in world rugby. But it was the tourists

:08:17. > :08:19.who played like they were on home turf, stopping a side with eight All

:08:20. > :08:27.Blacks in it from the off. The always influential Owen Farrell was

:08:28. > :08:38.just that putting them 6-7 up. The home side got a solitary penalty in

:08:39. > :08:41.the first half. While it was not free-flowing, riveting rugby, it was

:08:42. > :08:48.solid, the Lions sniffing out danger and threatening in attack, too. This

:08:49. > :08:52.was therefore an final penalty, converted by Farrell. Make no

:08:53. > :08:57.mistake, this was effectively a Test match, a first defeat this season

:08:58. > :09:04.for the Crusaders and a cavalry charge for the British and Irish

:09:05. > :09:07.Lions. Alfie Hewitt has become the first British wheelchair tennis

:09:08. > :09:14.player to win a French Open title. He lost the opening set to love

:09:15. > :09:17.against his Argentinian opponent, who was the defending champion,

:09:18. > :09:20.before fighting back to win the title. He will also be playing in

:09:21. > :09:26.the doubles final later wrong with Gordon Reid. It is a big night of

:09:27. > :09:30.World Cup qualifiers, with Northern Ireland playing Azerbaijan and

:09:31. > :09:34.Scotland hosting England. David is there. I guess with all of the

:09:35. > :09:38.history behind it, this is always a special fixture, but this is one

:09:39. > :09:45.which Scotland really have to win? That's true, Mike. It is the oldest

:09:46. > :09:50.international fixture rivalry in world football, dating back to 1872.

:09:51. > :09:55.But this is certainly one of the most crucial for Scotland. If they

:09:56. > :09:58.don't win today, they stand very little chance of qualifying for the

:09:59. > :10:02.World Cup in Russia next summer. Currently, the situation in the

:10:03. > :10:07.group is that England are top on 13 points. Scotland are fourth, six

:10:08. > :10:14.points behind, but only two points off second place. And eight out of

:10:15. > :10:19.the nine runners-up in the groups will go into a play-off. So there is

:10:20. > :10:24.still hope, but Scotland must win this. And they have not beaten

:10:25. > :10:27.England on home soil since 1985, winning just one out of the last ten

:10:28. > :10:35.meetings home or away, so the odds are against them. There is pressure

:10:36. > :10:38.on Gordon Strachan, the manager, so a win would be timely. And Harry

:10:39. > :10:43.Kane is going to be England captain for the first time? That's right. 23

:10:44. > :10:48.years old, he hasn't actually played at senior level for Gareth

:10:49. > :10:54.Southgate, the England manager, due to injury. He has played for

:10:55. > :10:59.Southgate at Under-21 level, but here tonight, on the biggest stage,

:11:00. > :11:04.he gets to captain his side, and Ewok and honour that will be for a

:11:05. > :11:09.player who scored 35 goals in 38 games last season for Tottenham. How

:11:10. > :11:14.he would like a couple of goals tonight. He captains the side in the

:11:15. > :11:19.absence of Wayne Rooney, and it could suggest that Harry Kane is the

:11:20. > :11:25.future for England, in terms of both attacking and captaincy. A quick

:11:26. > :11:30.update on England's match against Australia in the Champions Trophy.

:11:31. > :11:38.Australia are making fairly slow progress, currently on 207-4. Mark

:11:39. > :11:43.Wood has taken two wickets for England.

:11:44. > :11:46.You can see more on all of today's stories on the BBC News Channel.

:11:47. > :12:00.The next news on BBC One is at five past five - bye for now.

:12:01. > :12:07.Good afternoon. Quite a variety of weather across the UK today, with

:12:08. > :12:10.that low pressure just to the west of us. Weather fronts moving from

:12:11. > :12:11.west to east. It has been
