:00:24. > :00:30.The former Prime Minister Tony Blair has suggested some EU leaders might

:00:31. > :00:33.be prepared to change the rules of the single market,

:00:34. > :00:34.to keep Britain inside the European Union.

:00:35. > :00:37.He says the views of voters could have shifted, and the British

:00:38. > :00:40.might be willing to stay inside the EU if changes

:00:41. > :00:43.were made, such as stricter controls on migration.

:00:44. > :00:48.His comments have been dismissed by both senior Conservative and Labour

:00:49. > :00:49.figures. Our Political Correspondent,

:00:50. > :00:58.Eleanor Garnier, has this report. Balancing the needs of the UK

:00:59. > :01:02.economy at the same time as getting control of Britain's borders is a

:01:03. > :01:06.key issue in the Brexit debate but a former Labour Prime Minister has

:01:07. > :01:11.suggested political change in France has opened the path to compromise.

:01:12. > :01:15.Tony Blair claims the EU could be willing to make concessions on the

:01:16. > :01:21.free movement of people to allow the UK to stay in a reformed EU. Britain

:01:22. > :01:26.benefits enormously from that freedom of movement. However the

:01:27. > :01:30.question is, where there are changes to it, not alteration in the

:01:31. > :01:34.visibility of the printable but qualifications to it, around the

:01:35. > :01:38.things that concern people. But those claims directly contradict

:01:39. > :01:41.what those in Brussels are saying, that the UK must accept free

:01:42. > :01:46.movement without exception or new ones. I'm not going to disclose

:01:47. > :01:51.conversations I had within Europe, but am not saying this on the basis

:01:52. > :01:54.of a whim. Some of those who campaigned to leave the EU says

:01:55. > :02:01.there is no evidence to back up his claim. The EU has made it absolutely

:02:02. > :02:05.clear that the four freedoms including freedom of movement are

:02:06. > :02:11.not divisible. The chief negotiator said that. They took four minutes to

:02:12. > :02:16.read his guidelines, there is no debate in the EU. It's complete

:02:17. > :02:20.nonsense, another attempt to undermine Brexit. Campaigning in

:02:21. > :02:24.Southampton the current Labour leader rejected the position of his

:02:25. > :02:28.predecessor and says his party respects the result of the

:02:29. > :02:33.referendum. Anyone is entitled to give their views and I listen to all

:02:34. > :02:37.of them. The views we have is that we want to see tariff free access to

:02:38. > :02:44.the European market, protection of EU National and of the rights and

:02:45. > :02:46.consumer rights we achieved through European Union membership. This

:02:47. > :02:51.latest intervention from Tony Blair will not change the government 's

:02:52. > :02:54.approach to negotiations. Ministers say the former Labour prime

:02:55. > :02:58.ministers demonstrating again that he is out of touch with voters yet

:02:59. > :03:02.Mr Blair has reopened the debate on the central issue of Brexit, a

:03:03. > :03:06.decision he says is the biggest country has faced since the Second

:03:07. > :03:11.World War. Once he helped determine Britain's place in the world. Now

:03:12. > :03:14.this former Prime Minister must settle with commenting from the

:03:15. > :03:16.sidelines. Eleanor Garnier, BBC News.

:03:17. > :03:18.In Turkey, tens of thousands of people have taken part

:03:19. > :03:21.in pro-government rallies to mark a year since the unsuccessful

:03:22. > :03:31.President Erdogan's government has in the past twelve months

:03:32. > :03:32.dismissed or arrested 200,000 people accusing them

:03:33. > :03:36.Let's hear from our correspondent Mark Lowen who's in Istanbul.

:03:37. > :03:40.Many people arrested Mark but people there are celebrating.

:03:41. > :03:47.Yes, people here, a pretty noisy crowd, they see it as Dickie's

:03:48. > :03:54.second independence, the might last year when the people stood up the

:03:55. > :03:57.and thwarted a fifth successive coup in the history of the country,

:03:58. > :04:02.tonight President Erdogan will come here to address the crowd and will

:04:03. > :04:05.speak to Parliament one year from when the rubble jets bombed the

:04:06. > :04:10.building. Yet the opposition have not come here, they are deeply

:04:11. > :04:15.critical of the mass arrests that followed, 50,000 arrested, 150,000

:04:16. > :04:20.sacked or suspended, 7000 more last might. The government insists it is

:04:21. > :04:24.rooting out the virus of the supporters of the coup and that the

:04:25. > :04:28.supporters run far and wide in this society. Yet critics believe that in

:04:29. > :04:32.the last year the president has used a state of emergency to crush

:04:33. > :04:37.dissent. When year ago there was unity against the coup. It has faded

:04:38. > :04:41.and this country believes July 15 marks the rebirth of modern Turkey.

:04:42. > :04:44.The other side believes the aftermath is killing off what was

:04:45. > :04:46.left of Turkish democracy. Mark, thank you very much.

:04:47. > :04:49.Police in Devon say a 15-year-old girl has died after suffering

:04:50. > :04:55.an adverse reaction to a psychoactive substance,

:04:56. > :04:58.sometimes referred to as a legal high.

:04:59. > :05:00.The teenager was found unconscious in the early hours

:05:01. > :05:03.of this morning at a park in Newton Abbot and died

:05:04. > :05:06.Let's speak to Chloe Axford who's in Newton Abbot for us now.

:05:07. > :05:14.What can you tell us? I am here in the park, it is a peaceful evening,

:05:15. > :05:17.it was a different scene in the early hours of this morning when

:05:18. > :05:22.paramedics were called out. They took the girl, who was unconscious,

:05:23. > :05:26.to hospital with two other girls. Sadly she later died. Police believe

:05:27. > :05:31.she took a new psychoactive substance known as a legal high. She

:05:32. > :05:34.was not from this area. She had been visiting family and had been in the

:05:35. > :05:42.park last night with 12 other young people. Police say they are almost

:05:43. > :05:44.certain that someone in the community knows who might have

:05:45. > :05:46.supplied the drug and they are keen to find that supplier. They believe

:05:47. > :05:49.people might be too scared to come forward but they have said to me

:05:50. > :05:52.that if anyone has information and if there are any witnesses they

:05:53. > :05:59.really want to hear from them. Thank you, Chloe. It is a very busy

:06:00. > :06:02.weekend of sport, we will start with a tennis.

:06:03. > :06:09.With all the details, here's John Watson at Wimbledon.

:06:10. > :06:12.Yes, there was to be no fairytale 6th title for Venus Williams

:06:13. > :06:13.in the women's final at Wimbledon today.

:06:14. > :06:16.She was beaten in straight sets by Garbine Muguruza of Spain.

:06:17. > :06:26.14 years between the players, would you have experience be decisive, the

:06:27. > :06:29.pieces gave nothing away. It's a Wimbledon final, is it ever final

:06:30. > :06:35.four Venus Williams? Routine just goes on. She arrived at Wimbledon

:06:36. > :06:40.like a revolution, seemed completely new in 1997. Ask your parents!

:06:41. > :06:44.23-year-old Garbine Muguruza at the top of the screen, over 20 years

:06:45. > :06:50.every opponent has learned that Venus Williams can reach most

:06:51. > :06:55.things. We have seen that before. Uniquely for a women's final, the

:06:56. > :07:01.roof was closed so everything was amplified. The rallies were getting

:07:02. > :07:09.longer, they were getting louder. Both women were playing well but one

:07:10. > :07:16.was better. Garbine, shouldn't the first set 7-5. Second said started

:07:17. > :07:20.with a double fault, Venus suddenly fragile, how quickly she unravelled,

:07:21. > :07:23.even when Williams threw everything into her shots and connected there

:07:24. > :07:28.was Garbine Muguruza. Strong and certain she would not be beaten. A

:07:29. > :07:33.new champion, a new era, the match was settled by a computer, the final

:07:34. > :07:42.Williams error but there had been many. The second set, 6-0. Garbine

:07:43. > :07:46.Muguruza had beaten the player and. I thought, the hardest match today

:07:47. > :07:50.against Venus, she is such an incredible player. I grew up

:07:51. > :07:55.watching her play so it's incredible to play the final! Well, what Venus

:07:56. > :07:59.experienced today was what the Williams sisters inflicted on so

:08:00. > :08:04.many opponents here but are they done? Venus had this message for

:08:05. > :08:08.Serena. I miss you. I tried my best to do the same things you do but I

:08:09. > :08:15.think there will be other opportunities! I do. There is the

:08:16. > :08:18.new champion, changed out of her tennis gear and surrounded by old

:08:19. > :08:23.friends and plenty of new ones as well. This occasion always stays the

:08:24. > :08:28.same but Wimbledon always need someone just to handle it a bit

:08:29. > :08:33.differently. It is a new take on tradition, which keeps us

:08:34. > :08:36.enthralled. Joe Wilson, BBC News, Wimbledon.

:08:37. > :08:39.Britain won their first title of the tournament today and it came

:08:40. > :08:44.Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett retained their title,

:08:45. > :08:46.beating the French pair Stephane Houdet and Nicolas

:08:47. > :08:51.Lewis Hamilton will start tomorrow's British Grand Prix

:08:52. > :08:53.in pole position, equalling Jim Clark's record of five

:08:54. > :08:58.The Mercedes driver was more than half a second faster

:08:59. > :09:06.Championship leader Sebastien Vettel,

:09:07. > :09:09.who leads Hamilton by 20 points, was third fastest.

:09:10. > :09:12.South Africa are on top against England in the Second

:09:13. > :09:17.Captain Joe Root was the only player to pass 50

:09:18. > :09:26.for England as they were bowled out for 205.

:09:27. > :09:32.In their second innings, South Africa closed on 75-1

:09:33. > :09:36.England's women have fared better, completing a sixth successive win

:09:37. > :09:42.Captain Heather Knight made 67 before the West

:09:43. > :09:47.England will now face South Africa in the semi-finals.

:09:48. > :09:50.Stef Reid has won Great Britain's second gold medal at the World

:09:51. > :09:53.Para-athletics Championships in London in the T44 long jump.

:09:54. > :09:55.The double Paralympic silver medallist won her first major global

:09:56. > :10:01.championship title with a jump of 5 metres 40.

:10:02. > :10:03.And Chris Froome has regained the yellow jersey

:10:04. > :10:09.And that, Kate is all from Wimbledon.

:10:10. > :10:16.There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel,

:10:17. > :10:17.we are back with the late news at ten to ten - now on BBC1 it's
