:00:32. > :00:33.that claimed 14 lives have said they've seized more

:00:34. > :00:35.than 120 gas canisters which the extremists had planned

:00:36. > :00:44.where an explosion took place the day before a van drove into

:00:45. > :00:50.The father of two of the attackers has told the BBC he blames the Imam

:00:51. > :00:52.at their local mosque for their radicalisation.

:00:53. > :00:54.Our correspondent Wyre Davies reports from the town of Rippol,

:00:55. > :01:00.where most of the men had been living.

:01:01. > :01:07.The Corinthian mountain town of Rippol, were eight of those involved

:01:08. > :01:12.with the attacks in Barcelona came from. In this town of just 10,000

:01:13. > :01:16.people, investigators are asking if this man, Abdelbaki Es Satty, imam

:01:17. > :01:21.of the local mosque, was involved in directing those attacks. One theory

:01:22. > :01:27.being looked into is that the imam was killed in an explosion which

:01:28. > :01:31.destroyed a bomb factory in the town of Alcanar last Wednesday, prompting

:01:32. > :01:36.others to carry out the attacks in Barcelona. Today, police said they

:01:37. > :01:40.found 120 gas canisters at the destroyed house, which they think

:01:41. > :01:43.may have been intended to make a massive bomb. The focus of this

:01:44. > :01:50.investigation is now very much on the imam, Abdelbaki Es Satty.

:01:51. > :01:53.This is the tiny flat in the town where he lived,

:01:54. > :01:57.Anything that was in here has been taken away.

:01:58. > :02:00.Now, according to people at the mosque, he left two months

:02:01. > :02:03.ago on an extended trip to Morocco, but we know from his flatmate here,

:02:04. > :02:06.who doesn't want to be filmed, and from other people,

:02:07. > :02:14.that he was here as recently as last Tuesday, when he suddenly left.

:02:15. > :02:20.All that's left here is his small Koran and his empty bedroom. This

:02:21. > :02:25.morning I spoke to the devastated father of two of the attackers. He

:02:26. > :02:32.blames the imam for radicalising his sons and the others.

:02:33. > :02:36.TRANSLATION: I've lost my two sons. I can't forgive them for what

:02:37. > :02:46.they've done, but they've left me and their mother with nothing. What

:02:47. > :02:52.happened to my boys? Police across the region are still hunting for the

:02:53. > :02:58.main suspect, who is thought to have driven the van that killed so many

:02:59. > :03:11.people in Barcelona. This morning, the king and queen of Spain lead in

:03:12. > :03:15.Barcelona's they must Sagrada Familia Cathedral. People are trying

:03:16. > :03:17.to come together to support the families of the killed and injured.

:03:18. > :03:22.Live now to our correspondent, James Reynolds, who's in Barcelona.

:03:23. > :03:29.Police have been speaking about what they know about the wider plot. Yes,

:03:30. > :03:32.the Catalan police have been giving a number of details. They suggest

:03:33. > :03:38.that the wider plot had been planned for about six months and involved a

:03:39. > :03:42.group of around 12 people. Their plan, according to the police, was

:03:43. > :03:47.to carry out three separate van attacks against targets here in

:03:48. > :03:50.Catalonia. We don't know which targets those are. Police have been

:03:51. > :03:55.getting more information. They say they know who the driver was who

:03:56. > :03:59.carried out the attack in Barcelona, but they haven't disclosed the name

:04:00. > :04:04.of that suspect. The authorities are also continuing to provide care and

:04:05. > :04:07.support to the victims and to the families. There are many people who

:04:08. > :04:12.are still in hospital and there is still no word on the condition of

:04:13. > :04:17.the seven-year-old British- Australian boy who was injured.

:04:18. > :04:19.Finland has observed a minute of silence this morning

:04:20. > :04:22.for the victims of a stabbing attack in the city of Turku

:04:23. > :04:26.Friday's stabbing is being investigated as the country's

:04:27. > :04:31.A British paramedic, who was on holiday in the city,

:04:32. > :04:33.has denied being a hero after being injured as he tried

:04:34. > :04:43.He stood up, he ran away, I ran after him a couple of metres.

:04:44. > :04:53.He didn't say anything and then he ran away and I looked back

:04:54. > :05:03.So I ran there immediately, straight to her.

:05:13. > :05:15.from making unsolicited phone calls, and sending emails and text messages

:05:16. > :05:17.Companies selling and arranging pension plans are to be banned

:05:18. > :05:20.from making unsolicited phone calls, and sending emails and text messages

:05:21. > :05:23.The Government says it's trying to tackle pension scams

:05:24. > :05:25.after fraudsters tricked elderly savers out of nearly ?5 million

:05:26. > :05:27.in the first five months of this year.

:05:28. > :05:36.Here's our Business Correspondent, Joe Lynam.

:05:37. > :05:38.Chas Drew lives in the Forest of Dean.

:05:39. > :05:41.He invested his retirement savings into a fund which did not

:05:42. > :05:44.The company has gone bust and he does

:05:45. > :05:47.not know how much of his money he will ever get back.

:05:48. > :05:58.think, how could you have been sucked in?

:05:59. > :06:09.What I am doing is managing to cash in one

:06:10. > :06:12.of the investments, the

:06:13. > :06:15.smaller one, but in little bits, which is giving me an income.

:06:16. > :06:18.Since the restrictions on how we invest

:06:19. > :06:19.our pension savings were lifted three years

:06:20. > :06:24.ago, allowing people to

:06:25. > :06:28.spend their savings as they wished, 3,000 people have been defrauded by

:06:29. > :06:31.an average of ?15,000, much of that arose from cold calls from bogus

:06:32. > :06:38.?43 million worth of pensioners' funds were scammed since

:06:39. > :06:46.It's preying on your parents, my parents, on the elderly

:06:47. > :06:48.and vulnerable, and we want to stop it.

:06:49. > :06:50.What the government wants to do is make it

:06:51. > :06:52.illegal for companies to

:06:53. > :06:54.call you up cold to talk about pensions without prior permission.

:06:55. > :06:56.And even if you do give the permission,

:06:57. > :07:00.established company with regular, up-to-date accounts, so you cannot

:07:01. > :07:05.But this ban on cold calls cannot and will not apply to foreign

:07:06. > :07:12.Age UK welcomes the clamp-down on cold calls, but says

:07:13. > :07:17.Their message is - if in doubt, hang up.

:07:18. > :07:21.A group of pro-Brexit economists have said removing all trade tariffs

:07:22. > :07:39.and barriers would boost the economy by ?135 billion.

:07:40. > :07:41.Sir Patrick Minford from Economists for Free Trade says eliminating

:07:42. > :07:43.tariffs, either within free trade deals or unilaterally

:07:44. > :07:45.after the UK left the EU, would deliver huge gains.

:07:46. > :07:47.Other economists say cutting barriers sets off

:07:48. > :07:51.The Iraqi army has begun an offensive to retake the last

:07:52. > :07:53.major city in the country held by the Islamic State group.

:07:54. > :07:58.Tal Afar is a key strategic bastion, close to the border with Syria

:07:59. > :08:00.and around 50 miles west of Mosul, which was recaptured

:08:01. > :08:06.Iraq's Prime Minister said IS fighters had a choice

:08:07. > :08:19.The Prime Minister of Bangladesh is visiting the northern half of the

:08:20. > :08:20.country to assess damage caused by the worst flooding in almost 13

:08:21. > :08:22.years. The floods in Nepal,

:08:23. > :08:24.Bangladesh and India are thought to have killed about 500 people

:08:25. > :08:28.and are expected to worsen. According to the Red Cross

:08:29. > :08:31.in Bangladesh alone five million people have been affected,

:08:32. > :08:33.with over 300,000 displaced. Sanjoy Majumder reports

:08:34. > :08:37.from Bangladesh. Flooding on a scale that Bangladesh

:08:38. > :08:42.has not seen in decades. Water where once roads existed,

:08:43. > :08:46.entire villages washed away. People trying to salvage

:08:47. > :08:51.what little can be retrieved. In this case, a mattress

:08:52. > :08:57.floating in the water. When you have nothing left, every

:08:58. > :09:01.little possession is invaluable. He tells me how the water rose

:09:02. > :09:06.without warning at night, TRANSLATION: I saved my brother

:09:07. > :09:13.and his wife and came back to get some clothes and blankets,

:09:14. > :09:16.but by then it was too There's now a sense of desperation

:09:17. > :09:27.among the survivors. Aid workers bringing supplies

:09:28. > :09:29.of fresh water are soon surrounded, but there is simply not enough to go

:09:30. > :09:32.around, leaving behind angry Those who were lucky

:09:33. > :09:38.enough to escape have This one is built on a narrow

:09:39. > :09:45.embankment surrounded by water. There are 2,000 people living

:09:46. > :09:50.here along with cattle and the problem is, with most

:09:51. > :09:52.of their homes washed away, With so much water around and people

:09:53. > :09:58.squeezed into every inch of dry land, there's now a fear that

:09:59. > :10:01.disease from contaminated water could spread rapidly

:10:02. > :10:03.among the survivors. You can see more on all of today's

:10:04. > :10:12.stories on the BBC News Channel. The next news on BBC One

:10:13. > :10:16.is at 5.40pm this evening.
