:01:20. > :01:24.Two lorry drivers have been charged with causing death

:01:25. > :01:27.by dangerous driving, after eight people in a minibus

:01:28. > :01:29.were killed in a crash on the M1 near Newport Pagnell yesterday.

:01:30. > :01:32.Four others, including a five-year-old girl

:02:02. > :02:09.The minibus is private lost his life in a crash on the MWarren which left

:02:10. > :02:14.eight people dead. Tributes were paid today. Such a family orientated

:02:15. > :02:17.man, very genuine ungentlemanly. Personally, he was a close friend of

:02:18. > :02:22.mine. He was just like a brother to me. Friends at the service wanted to

:02:23. > :02:33.share memories of this well-known churchgoer. In unity, we all stand

:02:34. > :02:36.for him. We lost a beloved friend. Cyriac Joseph lived on this quiet

:02:37. > :02:40.cul-de-sac on the edge of Nottingham. Today, local people have

:02:41. > :02:45.discovered that their neighbour lost his life while at work. One

:02:46. > :02:48.described him as a lovely man, and another neighbour said he

:02:49. > :02:53.occasionally saw Mr Joseph in the front garden playing cricket with

:02:54. > :03:00.his children. He was driving a minibus from his company is when the

:03:01. > :03:03.collision happened near Newport Pagnell on Saturday morning put up

:03:04. > :03:08.two Lloris, one from FedEx and another from AIN Logistics, were

:03:09. > :03:13.involved in the accident. Both companies have expressed sympathy

:03:14. > :03:16.for those who have lost loved ones. And to the four people, including a

:03:17. > :03:23.five-year-old girl, who were taken to hospital. Today, an IT company

:03:24. > :03:26.confirmed that three of its employees died in the crash and

:03:27. > :03:33.another member of staff is seriously ill. Both lorry drivers have been

:03:34. > :03:40.charged with eight counts of causing death by dangerous driving. One of

:03:41. > :03:43.them, a 31-year-old from Evesham, has also been charged with

:03:44. > :03:47.drink-driving. He has been remanded in custody to appear in court

:03:48. > :03:52.tomorrow. The other driver, David Wagstaff, who is 53 and from

:03:53. > :03:55.Stoke-on-Trent, has been bailed to appear before magistrates next

:03:56. > :03:58.month. Spencer Stokes, BBC News, Nottingham.

:03:59. > :04:01.For the first time, the Labour Party has committed to keeping the UK

:04:02. > :04:04.in the single market and customs union during any transitional period

:04:05. > :04:08.The Shadow Brexit Secretary, Sir Keir Starmer, says

:04:09. > :04:11.withdrawing from both at once would be too risky.

:04:12. > :04:14.The shift in policy does mean the UK continuing to accept

:04:15. > :04:24.Our political correspondent Iain Watson reports.

:04:25. > :04:31.is Labour's leadership have always been clear - they respect the result

:04:32. > :04:35.of the EU referendum. But they have been left cleat -- less clear about

:04:36. > :04:38.what sort of Brexit they want. Now the shadow Brexit secretary and the

:04:39. > :04:41.Labour leader have agreed on a direction of travel, and in the

:04:42. > :04:45.transitional period immediately after we leave the EU, our current

:04:46. > :04:50.relationship would basically stay in place. Writing in the Observer, Kia

:04:51. > :04:54.Starmer says: That means we would seek to remain in a customs union

:04:55. > :04:57.with the EU and within the single market during this period. It means

:04:58. > :05:04.we will abide by the common rules of both. Never mind talks between

:05:05. > :05:08.Britain and Brussels, as I understand it, there have been

:05:09. > :05:12.intense negotiations within Labour's ranks to clarify the position. Well,

:05:13. > :05:16.what does abiding by EU rules actually mean? It would mean, for

:05:17. > :05:30.example, the continuation of free movement of Luvvies Labour, --

:05:31. > :05:37.labour. they're not putting a time limit on it. we want to say that

:05:38. > :05:40.they need to reach an arrangement that maintains the long term

:05:41. > :05:43.relationship between trading with europe and jobs within this country.

:05:44. > :05:47.and we need to look at trading arrangements with the rest of the

:05:48. > :05:50.world. jeremy corbyn is speaking at the edinburgh festival, but behind

:05:51. > :05:54.the scenes in labour, there has been pressure on him to go even further

:05:55. > :05:59.and commit to permanent single market membership. people would like

:06:00. > :06:02.to see the labour party committing to single market membership and

:06:03. > :06:08.customs union after the transition period after the uk has left the eu.

:06:09. > :06:13.but some labour mps who voted to leave the eu disagreed. jeremy

:06:14. > :06:18.chardy on a journey. Where did he start of what is he saying today? I

:06:19. > :06:23.have not been on a journey, I campaigned for us to come out.

:06:24. > :06:26.People can keep the faith with those of us Labour MPs who campaigned to

:06:27. > :06:32.come out and to know that we're not doing any ratting or you turning or

:06:33. > :06:37.anything else. At the last election, Jeremy Corbyn managed to pull off a

:06:38. > :06:41.delicate balancing act, appealing both to Remain an Leave voters. This

:06:42. > :06:45.may be a more difficult feat for him to repeat as he clarified his

:06:46. > :06:48.position on Brexit. Ian Watson, BBC News.

:06:49. > :06:51.In America, more than a thousand people have been rescued from rising

:06:52. > :06:54.The heavy rain has been described as "catastrophic" and a major

:06:55. > :06:56.emergency has been declared, with hundreds still stranded.

:06:57. > :07:06.Our correspondent James Cook in is Houston.

:07:07. > :07:12.Thanks very much indeed, Clive. Across this city right now, an

:07:13. > :07:16.unprecedented crisis is unfolding. Hundreds of rescues are taking place

:07:17. > :07:19.at this very moment, and we have just heard in the past few seconds

:07:20. > :07:23.that this weather event is on a scale never before recorded in

:07:24. > :07:31.history, with the possibility of rainfall reaching up to 50 inches,

:07:32. > :07:34.the most ever seen in this state. Harvey arrived in Houston with a

:07:35. > :07:39.vengeance, no longer backing the full force of a hurricane, but still

:07:40. > :07:42.deadly. In just 24 hours, more than two feet of rain fell on the fourth

:07:43. > :07:48.largest city in the United States. The results are devastating. This

:07:49. > :07:52.appears to be either the worst one of the worst floods Houston has ever

:07:53. > :07:57.had, and we are measuring it not in inches but in feet. Houston has

:07:58. > :08:02.ground to a halt, and with the rain still teeming down, the waters keep

:08:03. > :08:06.on rising. Police are urging people not to venture out, not to risk

:08:07. > :08:12.their lives, and this is why. Pedro told us he was almost swept away. I

:08:13. > :08:16.got stuck so I had to find a way to come home. I had to walk all the way

:08:17. > :08:20.there, and the rescue boat is over there, but it was helping someone

:08:21. > :08:25.else, so... There are rescues happening at there? Yeah. The storm

:08:26. > :08:28.has crippled transport and let people struggling to go about their

:08:29. > :08:33.lives. Right now, it is hard to believe that this is the richest

:08:34. > :08:36.nation on earth. You get the sense here of just how quickly this

:08:37. > :08:40.situation is unfolding. The flooding clearly caught these drivers by

:08:41. > :08:44.surprise, and still the rain is coming down, with no sign of it

:08:45. > :08:48.stopping. The authorities are struggling to cope. They are calling

:08:49. > :08:52.for more boats to be sent in. More than 2000 people in need of rescue

:08:53. > :08:57.have called the emergency services, and the Mayor is trying to stem a

:08:58. > :09:03.sense of panic. Were coming to you, OK? We want people to know in this

:09:04. > :09:06.city, if you are there, there is a need, we will get to you. I would

:09:07. > :09:14.simply ask that you remain calm, remain a little patient. We will get

:09:15. > :09:19.to you. 16 years ago, this city was devastated by the most serious

:09:20. > :09:20.flooding in its history. Already, this is looking worse. James Cook,

:09:21. > :09:26.BBC News, Houston. The 51st Notting Hill Carnival has

:09:27. > :09:28.opened in West London with the release of doves

:09:29. > :09:30.and a minute's silence observed in memory of those who died

:09:31. > :09:33.in the Grenfell Tower Firefighters and paramedics

:09:34. > :09:36.were among those who bowed Carnival-goers have been asked

:09:37. > :09:56.to wear something green to remember Well, you can see the streets of

:09:57. > :10:01.Notting Hill are packed. You can hear the sound systems playing

:10:02. > :10:05.reggae and other musics. There is the smell of chicken wafting through

:10:06. > :10:09.the air, and of course, the glorious outfits. Today has also been hugely

:10:10. > :10:15.emotional. As well as celebration, there has been commemoration. A lot

:10:16. > :10:20.of today has been about narrate it -- honouring the people who died in

:10:21. > :10:34.a Grenfell Tower disaster, and many more who became homeless. It started

:10:35. > :10:43.with a song to heal broken hearts. A promise of strength. Grenfell, we

:10:44. > :10:49.are united. Amen. And then, with the joyous sounds and vibrant colours of

:10:50. > :10:54.carnival, they celebrated the lives of those taken by tragedy. Many wore

:10:55. > :10:59.green for Grenfell, a colour symbolising growth and renewal. We

:11:00. > :11:05.are doing this in honour of the victims, to be honest with you. I

:11:06. > :11:18.have got my own relatives who died. We love the Carnival, Kadija loves

:11:19. > :11:22.the Carnival. We're bringing back colour and bringing back life. At

:11:23. > :11:26.times, those watching the procession were overwhelmed, sad and for those

:11:27. > :11:30.who once had a front row seat to the biggest street party in Europe. But

:11:31. > :11:35.with laughter and love, Carnival paid respect in the way it knows

:11:36. > :11:40.how. To bring us all together as a caring, sharing community, that we

:11:41. > :11:43.are all one Love, one community, and together, we are much more

:11:44. > :11:48.successful, and together, we celebrate the best of Britain. There

:11:49. > :11:54.have been moments of reflection, stillness and solitude, as well as

:11:55. > :11:59.gratitude for those who saved lives. Carnival has always had its roots

:12:00. > :12:04.film rarely within this community -- firmly within this community. It was

:12:05. > :12:08.started by immigrants who are facing racism, inequality and poor housing.

:12:09. > :12:12.Much of this still resonates on the streets of Notting Hill today. Since

:12:13. > :12:15.Grenfell Tower, the sense of community is important. We have

:12:16. > :12:24.already had a minute's silence for them and everything. Everyone had

:12:25. > :12:28.that minute. It is a good spirit right now, good vibes. Notting Hill

:12:29. > :12:32.Carnival will always symbolise celebration, freedom, but in the

:12:33. > :12:36.shadow of Grenfell, it has a new purpose, as a voice for a community

:12:37. > :12:39.trying to heal. Elaine Dunkley, BBC News.

:12:40. > :12:42.With all the sport, here's John Watson at the BBC Sport Centre.

:12:43. > :12:44.Boxer Floyd Mayweather says he's retired for good

:12:45. > :12:46.after defeating Conor McGregor, the mixed martial arts specialist.

:12:47. > :12:51.The Irish fighter switched sports to take on the American.

:12:52. > :12:54.Their money-spinning fight stopped in the tenth round,

:12:55. > :12:56.Our correspondent Richard Conway reports from Las Vegas.

:12:57. > :13:01.Floyd Mayweather Junior confirmed his position as one

:13:02. > :13:11.of the all-time greats in a fight that surpassed expectations.

:13:12. > :13:23.There's only one, McGregor. A sense of hope and anticipation had built

:13:24. > :13:28.throughout the day. If he can land one of his left and shot, he could

:13:29. > :13:38.do it. And Floyd Mayweather was not without support. 49 fights, 49 wins.

:13:39. > :13:42.McGregor emerged all guns blazing, catching Mayweather with a number of

:13:43. > :13:45.powerful shot, but in his first professional boxing contest, the

:13:46. > :13:49.pace and skills of Mayweather ground the Irishman down, and he visibly

:13:50. > :13:53.tired. By the ninth round, McGregor's legs began to wobble,

:13:54. > :13:57.clinging to his opponent and the ropes for survival. The next round

:13:58. > :14:00.saw the end of a fight that has intrigued and repulsed in equal

:14:01. > :14:05.measure. With all its controversies and the amount of money involved.

:14:06. > :14:12.Some believed this fight would be a fast, and in the, it was far from

:14:13. > :14:16.it, but the remains. So too, the deep unease about a fight that was

:14:17. > :14:20.primarily put on for the money. It was a very enjoyable experience, and

:14:21. > :14:26.a great learning experience, so I am very happy with it, in all honesty.

:14:27. > :14:30.Two of sport's great show men delivered entertainment, but with

:14:31. > :14:35.the cheques cashed and the height at an end, the circus has now left

:14:36. > :14:37.town. Richard Conway, BBC News, Las Vegas.

:14:38. > :14:39.Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-0 to condemn Arsene Wenger's side

:14:40. > :14:41.to their second straight league defeat of the season.

:14:42. > :14:43.Sadio Mane scored the pick of Liverpool's goals

:14:44. > :14:45.in what was a hugely impressive performance from

:14:46. > :14:51.In the early kick-offs, the Champions Chelsea beat Everton

:14:52. > :14:53.2-0, Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Morata with the goals.

:14:54. > :14:56.West Brom and Stoke finished one all at the Hawthorns.

:14:57. > :15:01.Burnley grabbed a late goal to draw with Tottenham.

:15:02. > :15:04.And Lewis Hamilton has trimmed the gap on Formula One Championship

:15:05. > :15:06.leader Sebastien Vettel after winning the

:15:07. > :15:10.The Mercedes driver was in front for most of the race,

:15:11. > :15:12.holding off a late challenge from the German driver's

:15:13. > :15:14.Ferrari to win on his 200th Formula One race.

:15:15. > :15:19.And there's more sports stories are on the BBC Sport website,

:15:20. > :15:20.including cricket, where England are struggling

:15:21. > :15:28.against the West Indies in the second Test.

:15:29. > :15:30.There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel,
