0:00:21 > 0:00:25Good afternoon.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27The Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is in Iran, where he's

0:00:27 > 0:00:29expected to press the authorities to release Nazanin

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Zaghari-Ratcliffe, and others with British-Iranian dual

0:00:32 > 0:00:34citizenship, on humanitarian grounds.

0:00:34 > 0:00:39Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe is serving a five-year prison term on charges

0:00:39 > 0:00:41of spying and trying to overthrow the Iranian government,

0:00:41 > 0:00:42which she denies.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Adina Campbell reports.

0:00:44 > 0:00:52A big day for the British Foreign Secretary.

0:00:52 > 0:00:57Ahead of a highly anticipated meeting, Boris Johnson greeted

0:00:57 > 0:00:59by his Iranian counterpart, looked keen to get the discussions

0:00:59 > 0:01:03off to a quick start.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Where the topic of the imprisonment of dual nationals will be

0:01:05 > 0:01:10high on the agenda.

0:01:10 > 0:01:15One of them is Nazanin Zaghair-Ratcliffe, seen

0:01:15 > 0:01:19here with her daughter, whom she has been away

0:01:19 > 0:01:24from since being arrested in Tehran 18 months ago.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28The Iranian authorities have accused the 37-year-old of spying and trying

0:01:28 > 0:01:30to overthrow their government, something she and her family

0:01:30 > 0:01:32have strongly denied.

0:01:32 > 0:01:38In a statement, Boris Johnson said he will raise grave concerns over

0:01:38 > 0:01:40the imprisonment of dual nationals where there are humanitarian

0:01:40 > 0:01:45grounds to do so.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Her British husband, Richard Ratcliffe, has been

0:01:47 > 0:01:50campaigning tirelessly for his wife's release.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53It was made very clear that we should not expect any miracles.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57The one thing I did ask, which Richard Ratcliffe

0:01:57 > 0:02:00and the family have been asking, is whether he can arrange for a visa

0:02:00 > 0:02:02for Richard Ratcliffe to go to Iran.

0:02:02 > 0:02:06As well as this case, there will be a number of other

0:02:06 > 0:02:10issues Boris Johnson will be hoping to discuss, including Britain's

0:02:10 > 0:02:15continued support for the nuclear deal with Iran and concerns

0:02:15 > 0:02:16about Iran's involvement in conflicts, notably

0:02:16 > 0:02:20in Yemen and Syria.

0:02:20 > 0:02:25At least two people have been killed in Israeli air strikes in Gaza.

0:02:25 > 0:02:30The Israeli authorities say they were targeting Hamas military

0:02:30 > 0:02:32positions after rockets were fired from there into southern Israel.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Four people are now known to have died in violence

0:02:36 > 0:02:38since President Trump announced America would move its embassy

0:02:38 > 0:02:39from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

0:02:39 > 0:02:46Sebastian Usher reports

0:02:46 > 0:02:51The Palestinians are continuing to show their anger over President

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Trump's recognition as Jerusalem as the capital. There have been clashes

0:02:55 > 0:03:00in Bethlehem and student held protest rallies. Yesterday was the

0:03:00 > 0:03:06first day of rage declared by Palestinians and two protesters were

0:03:06 > 0:03:10killed in confrontation with Israeli troops in Gaza and many were wounded

0:03:10 > 0:03:18across the Palestinian territories by tear gas, rubber bullets. Hamas

0:03:18 > 0:03:22have called for a new Palestinian uprising.

0:03:22 > 0:03:27TRANSLATION:We announce that we will launch protests everywhere in

0:03:27 > 0:03:32and out of Palestine, starting from today there will be no route to

0:03:32 > 0:03:36retreat, no red line for us. Overnight the Israeli military said

0:03:36 > 0:03:40air strikes targeted a base of the military wing of Hamas killing two

0:03:40 > 0:03:46members. It came after rockets were fired towards Israel from Gaza. But

0:03:46 > 0:03:52the level of violence so far appears containable as far as Israel is

0:03:52 > 0:03:57concerned. But international criticism of President Trump's move

0:03:57 > 0:04:02has not been muted with protests in the Arab and Muslim world and top

0:04:02 > 0:04:07officials from Saudi Arabia and UAE have warned that the move has given

0:04:07 > 0:04:12extremists a new lease of life. There is almost no support so far

0:04:12 > 0:04:18for President Trump's view that the peace process needed a shock to the

0:04:18 > 0:04:22system. And scepticism over his new initiative for piece due to be

0:04:22 > 0:04:28unveiled in the New Year is only growing as the consequences of his

0:04:28 > 0:04:32actions play out in Gaza and the West Bank.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Voters can use the next general election to have their say

0:04:35 > 0:04:39on a final deal with the European Union, according

0:04:39 > 0:04:41to one of the leading Brexiteers in the Cabinet.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43The Environment Secretary, Michael Gove, made his comments

0:04:43 > 0:04:45in the Daily Telegraph, a day after Theresa May's

0:04:45 > 0:04:47agreement in Brussels cleared the way for trade talks.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50He said if voters didn't like the final deal,

0:04:50 > 0:04:54they could force a future government to change course.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56Wildfires in southern California show little sign

0:04:56 > 0:04:57of letting up as hot, dry winds continue

0:04:57 > 0:04:59to fan the flames.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01One woman has died and more than 200,000 people

0:05:01 > 0:05:07have fled their homes, with more preparing

0:05:07 > 0:05:08to evacuate today.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10President Trump has declared a state of emergency,

0:05:10 > 0:05:12as Sarah Corker reports.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15In the mountains north of Los Angeles, wildfires continue

0:05:15 > 0:05:22to roar through the forests of Ventura County.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25Dry winds are fanning the flames, causing them to spread rapidly,

0:05:25 > 0:05:26and cutting across highways.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28RADIO:These guys are scrambling.

0:05:28 > 0:05:33And the thick plumes of smoke billow for miles.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35Across southern California, tens of thousands of

0:05:35 > 0:05:37people have already fled.

0:05:37 > 0:05:44And this is the destruction they are escaping from.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47I always equate these to my family friends as disaster war

0:05:47 > 0:05:50zones is what you see, with the homes that are lost,

0:05:50 > 0:05:53and the tragedy that hits all of these families that live

0:05:53 > 0:05:56in these areas.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Some people now returning home see what, if anything, they can salvage

0:05:59 > 0:06:02from the charred wreckage.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06It's unbelievable, it's devastating, it is horrific.

0:06:06 > 0:06:10There is nothing left.

0:06:10 > 0:06:16Not a darn thing.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19The first fires broke out on Monday reaching the exclusive area

0:06:19 > 0:06:23of Bel-Air, threatening the mansions of Hollywood stars.

0:06:23 > 0:06:29At night it looks like a volcano erupting.

0:06:29 > 0:06:37From Santa Barbara to LA to San Diego, more than 8,000

0:06:37 > 0:06:42firefighters are trying to contain to San Diego, more than 8,000

0:06:42 > 0:06:45the worst fires in living memory.

0:06:45 > 0:06:47Strong winds forecast through the weekend are making

0:06:47 > 0:06:50for extremely dangerous conditions.

0:06:50 > 0:06:54Weather warnings are still in place for large parts

0:06:54 > 0:06:56of the UK, with more snow and freezing temperatures forecast.

0:06:56 > 0:06:59This was the scene in Shropshire this morning.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02A yellow warning for snow and ice will remain for parts

0:07:02 > 0:07:04of the Midlands, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales

0:07:04 > 0:07:07until this evening.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09Olivia Richwald is at a gritting station in Oldham.

0:07:09 > 0:07:18What's the situation there?

0:07:18 > 0:07:22It has recently just stop snowing. It was snowing much of the morning

0:07:22 > 0:07:26in Oldham in Greater Manchester. There is an east-west divide across

0:07:26 > 0:07:32the North. In the East the snow has not hit but here the gritting team

0:07:32 > 0:07:38are preparing for a busy night. In Oldham the team covers 850

0:07:38 > 0:07:43kilometres of roads and about one third gritted. The team have worked

0:07:43 > 0:07:4824 hours a day since Thursday to keep major routes passable and

0:07:48 > 0:07:53expect to use 600 tonnes of grit over the weekend and that gripped

0:07:53 > 0:07:58mountain is getting smaller and they have had to order more. Heavy snow

0:07:58 > 0:08:04is expected over much of northern England overnight with temperatures

0:08:04 > 0:08:10as low as minus six degrees, so a very busy night here.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13Huge crowds of people have lined the streets of central Paris to pay

0:08:13 > 0:08:16homage to Johnny Hallyday, who died of cancer on Wednesday.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18He was 74.

0:08:18 > 0:08:23The coffin of the rock star - who was known as the French Elvis -

0:08:23 > 0:08:24is driven down the Champs Elysees, flanked

0:08:24 > 0:08:27by hundreds of bikers, riding along to the music

0:08:27 > 0:08:28of the singer.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33Now the sport.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36We can cross to the BBC sports centre. Good afternoon. Good

0:08:36 > 0:08:37afternoon.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41One of England's back-up players on their Ashes tour, Ben Duckett,

0:08:41 > 0:08:44has paid the price for pouring a drink over the head of team-mate

0:08:44 > 0:08:45James Anderson at a bar in Perth.

0:08:45 > 0:08:49The 23-year-old has been suspended pending an investigation

0:08:49 > 0:08:52and the problem for the coaching staff is the timing given previous

0:08:52 > 0:08:58trouble on the tour.

0:08:58 > 0:09:03It is fairly trivial, I think, but in the current climate it is not

0:09:03 > 0:09:07acceptable. Everybody has been warned about how small things can be

0:09:07 > 0:09:19blown out of proportion. The ECB have been strict with the boys to

0:09:19 > 0:09:22the message.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25David Moyes will be hoping to secure his first win

0:09:25 > 0:09:26since taking charge of West Ham United

0:09:26 > 0:09:29as they take on Chelsea, at the first Premier League fixture

0:09:29 > 0:09:32of the day.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34The reigning champions have conceded just four goals

0:09:34 > 0:09:36in their last seven in all competitions.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38But found themselves a goal down at the London Stadium

0:09:38 > 0:09:39in just the sixth minute.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41Marko Arnautovic sparking delirium, and picking up a booking

0:09:41 > 0:09:46for this celebration.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49Less than three months ago British aerial skier Lloyd Wallace suffered

0:09:49 > 0:09:52a severe head injury and was placed in an induced coma

0:09:52 > 0:09:55after a crash in training.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57His hopes of competing at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

0:09:57 > 0:10:00looked over, but the 22-year-old has made a quite remarkable recovery

0:10:00 > 0:10:03and now he's back on the snow looking to make his Olympic

0:10:03 > 0:10:04dream a reality.

0:10:04 > 0:10:10Nick Hope has been to meet him.

0:10:10 > 0:10:15Aerial skiing is the definition of extreme sport. You get up to 70

0:10:15 > 0:10:22kilometres per hour and in front is a four metre giant ramp and we do

0:10:22 > 0:10:32twists and go up to 15 beaters. An adrenaline rush. It is a sport with

0:10:32 > 0:10:36clear rewards and also risk, Lloyd Wallace became aware off in August

0:10:36 > 0:10:40after hitting his head in a freak training crash.I do not remember

0:10:40 > 0:10:46any of it. I lost a few days of memory. I was flown to hospital and

0:10:46 > 0:10:55put into an induced coma. When I woke up my balance was gone. It was

0:10:55 > 0:10:59scary, but brain injuries you often lose your balance and I have been

0:10:59 > 0:11:04through a lot the past months and I have been lucky in my recovery and

0:11:04 > 0:11:09the injury was not as bad as first thought and I have just got back on

0:11:09 > 0:11:13snow and on skis and it was the best feeling.Britain has not had an

0:11:13 > 0:11:20aerial skier at the Olympics since 98 but now he is back training, he

0:11:20 > 0:11:26is confident about ending that unwanted run and extending his

0:11:26 > 0:11:29family association with the Olympics.It has been a dream to

0:11:29 > 0:11:33represent Team GB and follow in my family footsteps. My grandfather

0:11:33 > 0:11:38went to the Olympics in 48 and my uncle went to the Olympics for

0:11:38 > 0:11:44cycling and my parents went to the Olympics. An amazing honour. He

0:11:44 > 0:11:50knows that safely landing a top 20 world ranking in the next month will

0:11:50 > 0:11:57secure him a place at the Winter Olympics. What a fabulous comeback.

0:11:57 > 0:12:02In the football, still West Ham 1-0 Chelsea. That is all the sport. More

0:12:02 > 0:12:05throughout the afternoon.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07The next news on BBC One is at 5:40.

0:12:07 > 0:12:13Bye for now.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15Bye for now.
