0:00:06 > 0:00:08In a crucial week for the Brexit talks, a senior minister says
0:00:08 > 0:00:13the Government is more united than Conservative critics think.
0:00:13 > 0:00:16With a position on trade and customs arrangements due
0:00:16 > 0:00:18to be agreed within days, the Home Secretary says
0:00:18 > 0:00:25the Government will get a good deal.
0:00:25 > 0:00:32We want frictionless trade at the border. We want to make sure there
0:00:32 > 0:00:35is no border on the island of Ireland, and we want to make sure we
0:00:35 > 0:00:38are free to make trade deals outside the EU.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40We'll be analysing the pressure on the Prime Minister
0:00:40 > 0:00:41from Brexiteers within her party.
0:00:41 > 0:00:42Also tonight:
0:00:42 > 0:00:44Crunch talks for South Africa's President Zuma -
0:00:44 > 0:00:46will party officials persuade him to stand down?
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Sinn Fein's policing spokesman is accused of causing criminal
0:00:48 > 0:00:54damage after removing a parking clamp from his car.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56And seven tries for England as they sweep aside Italy
0:00:56 > 0:00:59in the Six Nations.
0:01:17 > 0:01:18Good evening.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21In a crucial week for talks with the EU over future trade
0:01:21 > 0:01:24arrangements, the Home Secretary says the UK will not
0:01:24 > 0:01:28'surrender too quickly' in its bid for a bespoke deal.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30Amber Rudd also hit out at the Brexiteer Conservative MPs,
0:01:30 > 0:01:35saying the Cabinet was more united on Brexit than they might think.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37Tomorrow, the EU's chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, will be
0:01:37 > 0:01:40in London for talks.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42Later in the week, a Cabinet committee will be seeking
0:01:42 > 0:01:43to agree on future policy.
0:01:43 > 0:01:51Our political correspondent, Eleanor Garnier, reports.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59Putting the UK on the world map, the Prime Minister's been preparing
0:01:59 > 0:02:00for life outside the EU, taking tea
0:02:00 > 0:02:03in China, and helping to secure billions of pounds of business
0:02:03 > 0:02:05deals.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08But reaching agreement on the other side of the world perhaps much
0:02:08 > 0:02:15easier than solving disagreements in her own
0:02:15 > 0:02:17of disunity about the type of Brexit they want.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20I have a surprise for the Brexiteers, which is the committee
0:02:20 > 0:02:22that meet in order to help make these decisions
0:02:22 > 0:02:23and is meeting, as you
0:02:23 > 0:02:26rightly say, twice this week is more united than they think.
0:02:26 > 0:02:27We meet in the committee, we meet privately
0:02:27 > 0:02:29for discussions.
0:02:29 > 0:02:31I think that we will arrive at something which suits
0:02:31 > 0:02:32us all.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35Exactly how we trade with the EU after Brexit is the source of
0:02:35 > 0:02:36division in the Tories.
0:02:36 > 0:02:37Some want complete disentanglement from
0:02:37 > 0:02:40Brussels - others hope to stay as close to the EU as possible.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42The Home Secretary believes the Government's
0:02:42 > 0:02:47priorities are clear.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49We want frictionless trade at the border,
0:02:49 > 0:02:52we want to make sure there's no border on the island of Ireland,
0:02:52 > 0:02:55and we want to make sure that we can do
0:02:55 > 0:02:56trade deals outside of the
0:02:56 > 0:03:04European Union.
0:03:04 > 0:03:05That's the deal wer're looking for.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08But it's clear to all in the Conservative Party how
0:03:08 > 0:03:10difficult it will be to get everyone on site.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12There are inherent tensions in dealing with Brexit because
0:03:12 > 0:03:13different people take different views.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16It's not just in the Conservative Party, not just in the
0:03:16 > 0:03:17Labour Party - it's across the country.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20It actually needs a bit of a team effort here, that's what I'm
0:03:20 > 0:03:22saying loud and clear.
0:03:22 > 0:03:23So far, the Prime Minister has managed to
0:03:23 > 0:03:26prevent that decades-old split in the Conservative Party over Europe
0:03:26 > 0:03:28from spilling out into something much more serious, something that
0:03:28 > 0:03:30could lead to the collapse of her Government.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33But this week, there are crucial cabinet meetings here, with
0:03:33 > 0:03:35pressure to finally pin down an agreed position on our future
0:03:35 > 0:03:36relationship with the EU.
0:03:36 > 0:03:39But it's not just a battle at home - winning
0:03:39 > 0:03:40in Brussels is key, too.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43And with more negotiations with the EU this
0:03:43 > 0:03:46week, the next few days could be pivotal for the Prime Minister and
0:03:46 > 0:03:51the country.
0:03:51 > 0:03:56Eleanor is here now.
0:03:56 > 0:04:00Will we, by the end of the week, have clarity on the position we are
0:04:00 > 0:04:06going to take in the Brexit talks? That is certainly the aim. You will
0:04:06 > 0:04:09remember the phrase Brexit means Brexit that the Prime Minister used
0:04:09 > 0:04:12to use. The pressure is on the Government this would finally make
0:04:12 > 0:04:17its mind up about what Brexit actually does mean. After the trip
0:04:17 > 0:04:21to China, Brexit is firmly back on the agenda, right at the top,
0:04:21 > 0:04:24because we have the EU chief negotiator in Downing Street
0:04:24 > 0:04:29tomorrow for
0:04:49 > 0:04:51talks. Later in the week, that small group of senior ministers in the
0:04:51 > 0:04:54Brexit Cabinet will get together for those critical talks, and surely
0:04:54 > 0:04:56compromise, because Theresa May has found it difficult enough to get
0:04:56 > 0:04:57agreement among her ministers throughout the negotiations so far,
0:04:57 > 0:05:00so getting consent is this week is likely to be more complicated than
0:05:00 > 0:05:03what has gone before. It is that decision on whether to bind tightly
0:05:03 > 0:05:06to the EU when the leave to pull far apart that is the dividing line
0:05:06 > 0:05:08between the two competing factions in the Conservative Party. One side
0:05:08 > 0:05:11will need to give in order for there to be an agreed Government position.
0:05:11 > 0:05:14A deal is wanted by October, to leave time for it to be voted on, so
0:05:14 > 0:05:17time is running out. As one minister told me this week, it isn't going to
0:05:17 > 0:05:19get easier with time.Eleanor, thank you.
0:05:19 > 0:05:22Two people have been killed and at least 116 injured in a rail
0:05:22 > 0:05:24crash in the US state of South Carolina.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26An Amtrak passenger train travelling between New York and Miami collided
0:05:26 > 0:05:29with a freight service, with more than 140 people on board.
0:05:29 > 0:05:31South Carolina's governor said it appeared that the passenger train
0:05:31 > 0:05:36had been on the wrong track at the time of the crash.
0:05:36 > 0:05:38Senior officials from South Africa's governing ANC are meeting
0:05:38 > 0:05:41President Zuma tonight as he faces increasing pressure to stand down.
0:05:41 > 0:05:43Many officials would like to replace him after allegations of corruption
0:05:43 > 0:05:46and to avoid a long power struggle before elections take
0:05:46 > 0:05:47place next year.
0:05:47 > 0:05:55Our Southern Africa correspondent, Andrew Harding, reports.
0:05:59 > 0:06:02He's swamped by scandal.
0:06:02 > 0:06:04South Africa's President, Jacob Zuma, has already been found guilty
0:06:04 > 0:06:07of breaking his oath of office when he upgraded his private home
0:06:07 > 0:06:11lavishly at the taxpayer's expense.
0:06:11 > 0:06:13More recently, his friendship with the controversial business
0:06:13 > 0:06:15family, the Guptas, has fuelled allegations
0:06:15 > 0:06:21of massive corruption - "state capture", they call it here.
0:06:21 > 0:06:23During the Zuma presidency, South Africa has foundered.
0:06:23 > 0:06:25The economy is struggling and unemployment is soaring,
0:06:25 > 0:06:32amid a sense that senior officials could get away with anything.
0:06:32 > 0:06:36But in December, Zuma and his allies lost control of the governing ANC.
0:06:36 > 0:06:44The new man, Cyril Ramaphosa, promising to end impunity.
0:06:45 > 0:06:49Everyone agrees that our state was captured by people who purported
0:06:49 > 0:06:53to be close to the president, who have been doing really bad
0:06:53 > 0:07:01things and getting into all and many state institutions.
0:07:04 > 0:07:06And suddenly, there is real change in the air here.
0:07:06 > 0:07:09Prosecutors seizing this state farm in connection with alleged
0:07:09 > 0:07:13fraud by the Gupta family and government officials.
0:07:13 > 0:07:14And the courts pursuing corruption charges against
0:07:14 > 0:07:19President Zuma himself.
0:07:19 > 0:07:22I think these are real historic moments in South African politics.
0:07:22 > 0:07:25In all likelihood, we are going to see arrests and big people
0:07:25 > 0:07:27being caught up in this.
0:07:27 > 0:07:34Because a wheel is turning, momentum is developing.
0:07:34 > 0:07:38And I don't think there is to be any turning back.
0:07:38 > 0:07:40For now, Zuma is clinging to his job, but his allies
0:07:40 > 0:07:43are deserting him and tonight party leaders are meeting him
0:07:43 > 0:07:48to discuss his removal.
0:07:48 > 0:07:51In places like Zimbabwe and Kenya, we have seen this sort of situation
0:07:51 > 0:07:52turn ugly and dangerous.
0:07:52 > 0:07:54But South Africa is still a robust democracy.
0:07:54 > 0:07:57So, whether he is pushed or he jumps, President Zuma
0:07:57 > 0:08:00will soon be out of power, and, most likely, in court
0:08:00 > 0:08:06on corruption charges.
0:08:06 > 0:08:09It is a moment of drama and optimism for a country poised to exit
0:08:09 > 0:08:14the troubled Zuma era.
0:08:14 > 0:08:19Andrew Harding, BBC News, Johannesburg.
0:08:19 > 0:08:21Managers of a care home in Hertfordshire have promised
0:08:21 > 0:08:24a 'full and proper' investigation after one of its elderly residents
0:08:24 > 0:08:27died in a fire yesterday.
0:08:27 > 0:08:30Emergency services were called to the Woodlands View care home
0:08:30 > 0:08:31in Stevenage yesterday afternoon.
0:08:31 > 0:08:34A second person was critically injured in the blaze,
0:08:34 > 0:08:36thought to have been caused by an explosion from
0:08:36 > 0:08:39an oxygen cylinder.
0:08:39 > 0:08:42The black-cab rapist John Worboys has been transferred back
0:08:42 > 0:08:44to a prison in Yorkshire after his controversial move
0:08:44 > 0:08:47to a jail in London.
0:08:47 > 0:08:49The Prison Service faced criticism after the serial sex offender
0:08:49 > 0:08:53was moved in January to the city where he committed his crimes.
0:08:53 > 0:08:56Legal proceedings are currently under way to try and prevent
0:08:56 > 0:08:57his release on parole.
0:08:57 > 0:08:59He was jailed in 2009 for drugging and sexually
0:08:59 > 0:09:04assaulting female passengers.
0:09:04 > 0:09:07The Government is to consult on new planning rules that
0:09:07 > 0:09:09would make it easier for homeowners to add two storeys to existing
0:09:09 > 0:09:11buildings in cities.
0:09:11 > 0:09:14But any extra levels could only be added if the property remained
0:09:14 > 0:09:15in keeping with the area.
0:09:15 > 0:09:21Ministers are trying to increase housing capacity in England.
0:09:21 > 0:09:23MPs have warned that cuts to the Royal Marines
0:09:23 > 0:09:25would significantly weaken Britain's defences.
0:09:25 > 0:09:28The Government, which is reviewing defence spending, is said to be
0:09:28 > 0:09:30considering axing 2000 Marines and the Royal Navy's two
0:09:30 > 0:09:33amphibious assault ships.
0:09:33 > 0:09:41Daniela Relph reports.
0:09:41 > 0:09:44It is a warning to Government over the future of the Royal Marines.
0:09:44 > 0:09:46They are among Britain's elite fighting forces and provide up
0:09:46 > 0:09:52to half the personnel for the UK's Special Forces.
0:09:52 > 0:09:54The Defence Select Committee report says that further cuts
0:09:54 > 0:09:56to the Marines would damage their ability to be
0:09:56 > 0:09:59a high readiness unit.
0:09:59 > 0:10:03And warns plans to end the use of HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark -
0:10:03 > 0:10:05ships from which beach assaults are made -
0:10:05 > 0:10:09would be militarily illiterate at this time.
0:10:09 > 0:10:11The committee praises the Defence Secretary,
0:10:11 > 0:10:14Gavin Williamson, for taking control of a defense review.
0:10:14 > 0:10:18He is under pressure to make cuts against the strong funding cases
0:10:18 > 0:10:20being made by other government departments, but also faces
0:10:20 > 0:10:27arguments from military chiefs that defence must be a priority.
0:10:27 > 0:10:32Since 2010, our military has been cut by a third in its capability.
0:10:32 > 0:10:36If this new round of cuts come, it will have been cut by half.
0:10:36 > 0:10:40Can you imagine if we had half the number of hospitals?
0:10:40 > 0:10:42Spending on defence has fluctuated over decades.
0:10:42 > 0:10:45Rising when British forces are involved in a live conflict,
0:10:45 > 0:10:48but since 2010, the figures show a consistent decrease,
0:10:48 > 0:10:54reinforced by austerity measures.
0:10:54 > 0:10:57Defence is now more complex and sophisticated than ever before.
0:10:57 > 0:11:00The head of the army recently warned of Russia's increasingly powerful
0:11:00 > 0:11:04and aggressive military.
0:11:04 > 0:11:06A capability he said the UK would struggle to match.
0:11:06 > 0:11:09But as well as traditional battles, there is now a technological fight
0:11:09 > 0:11:13that also needs money and resources.
0:11:13 > 0:11:16I think in the Cabinet Office there is a suspicion that defence
0:11:16 > 0:11:20hasn't delivered the savings they had promised to in 2015,
0:11:20 > 0:11:23and they have to put defence up against the wall now to make them
0:11:23 > 0:11:27deliver the savings that were promised.
0:11:27 > 0:11:30The Ministry of Defence say the Royal Marines play a vital role
0:11:30 > 0:11:34in protecting the UK, but its budget is stretched
0:11:34 > 0:11:37and in the face of powerful arguments being made by other
0:11:37 > 0:11:39government departments, defence is trying to ensure its case
0:11:39 > 0:11:43for increased funding is heard.
0:11:43 > 0:11:49Daniela Relph, BBC News, at the MoD.
0:11:49 > 0:11:51A senior Sinn Fein politician, who speaks for the party
0:11:51 > 0:11:54on policing, has been reported to police in Belfast
0:11:54 > 0:11:56for alleged criminal damage.
0:11:56 > 0:11:59Gerry Kelly was filmed removing a wheel clamp from his car after it
0:11:59 > 0:12:00had been clamped in the city centre.
0:12:00 > 0:12:05Sinn Fein says the matter is being handled by Mr Kelly's solicitor.
0:12:05 > 0:12:08From Belfast, John Campbell reports.
0:12:08 > 0:12:11Gerry Kelly represents North Belfast in the Northern Ireland Assembly.
0:12:11 > 0:12:14He's a former junior minister and speaks for his party
0:12:14 > 0:12:17on policing matters.
0:12:17 > 0:12:20On Friday morning, he parked outside his gym in what is clearly
0:12:20 > 0:12:24marked as a restricted area.
0:12:24 > 0:12:27What happened next was captured by eyewitnesses.
0:12:27 > 0:12:33Gerry Kelly, your car's clamped.
0:12:33 > 0:12:35Mr Kelly can be seen on the ground, removing
0:12:35 > 0:12:37the clamp from his car, untangling the chains
0:12:37 > 0:12:38from around the front wheel.
0:12:38 > 0:12:42On the ground beside him are a pair of what appear to be bolt cutters.
0:12:42 > 0:12:45Once the clamp was free, Mr Kelly took it to the back
0:12:45 > 0:12:48of his car and propped it against the wall.
0:12:48 > 0:12:53Sinn Fein said Mr Kelly then drove off to attend a meeting.
0:12:53 > 0:12:56They added that the issue is now in the hands of his solicitor,
0:12:56 > 0:12:59and that he would be making no further comment at this time.
0:12:59 > 0:13:02It's not clear if the other cars parked next to Mr Kelly
0:13:02 > 0:13:05were also clamped.
0:13:05 > 0:13:07Before his political role, Gerry Kelly was a senior
0:13:07 > 0:13:11member of the IRA.
0:13:11 > 0:13:13Five years ago, he was at the centre of another controversy,
0:13:13 > 0:13:16when he was carried on the bonnet of a police Land Rover
0:13:16 > 0:13:22during an incident in his constituency.
0:13:22 > 0:13:24Both he and the police driver were warned about their conduct.
0:13:24 > 0:13:31Today, his political opponents say he must explain his latest actions.
0:13:31 > 0:13:35When people are elected to the Assembly, we sign a pledge
0:13:35 > 0:13:38of office to comply with a code of conduct that no one
0:13:38 > 0:13:39should be above the law.
0:13:39 > 0:13:41So, that's why we need these facts to be established
0:13:41 > 0:13:42as quickly as possible.
0:13:42 > 0:13:45The police say they are investigating a report of criminal
0:13:45 > 0:13:46damage to a wheel clamp.
0:13:46 > 0:13:54John Campbell, BBC News.
0:13:54 > 0:13:56Israel has begun handing out deportation notices to thousands
0:13:56 > 0:13:58of African migrants who entered the country illegally.
0:13:58 > 0:14:01Most are from Eritrea and Sudan, with unmarried men the first to be
0:14:01 > 0:14:03issued with orders to leave within two months or
0:14:03 > 0:14:04face possible jail.
0:14:04 > 0:14:07Today hundreds of migrants queued up to try to obtain visas.
0:14:07 > 0:14:10The UN has called on Israel to scrap the plan, calling it both
0:14:10 > 0:14:14incoherent and unsafe.
0:14:14 > 0:14:17In Germany, the deadline for agreeing a new coalition
0:14:17 > 0:14:18government has been pushed back till Tuesday.
0:14:18 > 0:14:20Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats and the centre-left
0:14:20 > 0:14:23Social Democratic Party had agreed to try and do a deal
0:14:23 > 0:14:31by today, but some policy differences still remain.
0:14:32 > 0:14:35North and South Korea - two nations which remain
0:14:35 > 0:14:37technically at war - put on an unprecedented show
0:14:37 > 0:14:39of sporting collaboration today, fielding a joint women's
0:14:39 > 0:14:41ice hockey team.
0:14:41 > 0:14:44The friendly match against Sweden took place on the outskirts
0:14:44 > 0:14:46of South Korea's capital, Seoul, as the country prepares
0:14:46 > 0:14:48to host the Winter Olympics.
0:14:48 > 0:14:53Our Seoul correspondent, Laura Bicker, sent this report.
0:14:53 > 0:14:57Fierce and determined, the Korean players head
0:14:57 > 0:15:00onto the rink to prove they are not just pawns in a
0:15:00 > 0:15:06political drama, or an experiment in sports diplomacy.
0:15:06 > 0:15:10They fight hard against high-ranking Sweden, willed
0:15:10 > 0:15:13on by a crowd eager to witness a piece
0:15:13 > 0:15:14of history, and waving the
0:15:14 > 0:15:20flag of a unified Korea.
0:15:20 > 0:15:25TRANSLATION:I was so touched.
0:15:25 > 0:15:29I feel so good because I felt the passion of the players, and it felt
0:15:29 > 0:15:30like we were one together.
0:15:30 > 0:15:33It was very meaningful to all of us, and
0:15:33 > 0:15:35especially for my son, it was a very meaningful event.
0:15:35 > 0:15:36But this team's formation has been controversial.
0:15:36 > 0:15:39The South Korean hockey coach has had to tell players she's worked
0:15:39 > 0:15:42with for years that they've lost their spot to make way for North
0:15:42 > 0:15:46Koreans such as this player.
0:15:46 > 0:15:49We're not allowed to ask the North Koreans
0:15:49 > 0:15:51any questions at the press conference, but the South Korean
0:15:51 > 0:15:54coach was frank when I asked her about the challenges.
0:15:54 > 0:16:00So, adding players that close to the Olympics
0:16:00 > 0:16:03that haven't been with us for the last four years, learning our
0:16:03 > 0:16:05systems, kind of understanding how our team plays is difficult.
0:16:05 > 0:16:10The North Korean language is different
0:16:10 > 0:16:15than South Korean, so for our team meetings, it is going through
0:16:15 > 0:16:18to English, to South Korean to North Korean, so the meetings
0:16:18 > 0:16:20take three times as long, and it's really
0:16:20 > 0:16:22hard when, you know, you have three different
0:16:22 > 0:16:23languages on one team.
0:16:23 > 0:16:24The event feels like a celebration, but
0:16:24 > 0:16:28playing as one team under one flag has not been welcomed by the younger
0:16:28 > 0:16:31generation in South Korea.
0:16:31 > 0:16:33To them, unifying the two countries is a very
0:16:33 > 0:16:36distant goal.
0:16:36 > 0:16:42The problem with the young generation, and the sentiment
0:16:42 > 0:16:45towards Korea is, they do not really trust them.
0:16:45 > 0:16:47And they have seen, and we all have seen,
0:16:47 > 0:16:49flip-flopping and breaking the promises by North Korea.
0:16:49 > 0:16:51So, they do not really share the feeling of like
0:16:51 > 0:16:53one nation with North Korea.
0:16:53 > 0:16:55The North Korean players will not stay
0:16:55 > 0:16:57with their team-mates at the athletes' village.
0:16:57 > 0:17:02They'll be kept in separate accommodation and
0:17:02 > 0:17:03watched over by minders.
0:17:03 > 0:17:06Sweden won the match today, 3-1, but for
0:17:06 > 0:17:09North and South Korea, fielding a joint team will be viewed
0:17:09 > 0:17:11as a small victory for diplomacy.
0:17:11 > 0:17:19Laura Bicker, BBC News, Seoul.
0:17:19 > 0:17:23With all the sport, here's Karthi at the BBC Sport Centre.
0:17:23 > 0:17:25Good evening.
0:17:25 > 0:17:28England have started the defence of their rugby union Six Nations
0:17:28 > 0:17:35title in style with a 46 points to 15 victory over Italy.
0:17:35 > 0:17:39It was a familiar performance from England, who have won 23 out
0:17:39 > 0:17:41of their 24 matches under head coach Eddie Jones.
0:17:41 > 0:17:47Patrick Gearey watched the action.
0:17:47 > 0:17:51The faces, the voices change, the results don't.
0:17:51 > 0:17:53When at home, or in Rome, England have always beaten
0:17:53 > 0:17:57Italy.
0:17:57 > 0:18:00Their philosophy demands that this team forget that and the
0:18:00 > 0:18:03fact they have only lost once in three years in the Six Nations.
0:18:03 > 0:18:06Your mind must be fully on the next pass,
0:18:06 > 0:18:07the first try.
0:18:07 > 0:18:08Anthony Watson scored it.
0:18:08 > 0:18:12With the next World Cup 18 months away, England have been
0:18:12 > 0:18:15trying to establish a cruel streak and with the ruthless instinct of
0:18:15 > 0:18:17the hunter, Watson was over again five minutes later.
0:18:17 > 0:18:20But Italy were not simply wounded prey.
0:18:20 > 0:18:23Even under constant pressure they found an escape.
0:18:23 > 0:18:26Tommaso Benvenuti the getaway runner.
0:18:26 > 0:18:28England stayed further down the road.
0:18:28 > 0:18:36Owen Farrell scored before the break, then a first internation
0:18:36 > 0:18:39--al try for Sam Simmonds, in the team
0:18:39 > 0:18:39because of injuries another English option.
0:18:39 > 0:18:42But Wales, who play England next, will watch this Italian move
0:18:42 > 0:18:43a few times this week.
0:18:43 > 0:18:46Proof that there is space to be exploited, even if this
0:18:46 > 0:18:47Bellini nearly ran out.
0:18:47 > 0:18:49England will have learnt much themselves, like not to
0:18:49 > 0:18:51challenge Simmonds to a race any time.
0:18:51 > 0:18:53His second try.
0:18:53 > 0:18:54His team finished with seven.
0:18:54 > 0:18:58The last finished off by replacement Jack Nowell.
0:18:58 > 0:19:0046-15 reads more harshly than perhaps Italy deserved but history
0:19:00 > 0:19:08has repeated emphatically.
0:19:08 > 0:19:10England's women are also defending champions and they too beat
0:19:10 > 0:19:11Italy in the Six Nations.
0:19:11 > 0:19:15Captain Sarah Hunter scored a hat trick of tries to help
0:19:15 > 0:19:18England to a bonus point 42 to 7 win in their opening match
0:19:18 > 0:19:19of the tournament.
0:19:19 > 0:19:21Great Britian have been knocked out of the Davis Cup,
0:19:21 > 0:19:25beaten 3-1 by Spain.
0:19:25 > 0:19:29But Cameron Norrie, the world number 114,
0:19:29 > 0:19:32had a debut weekend to remember despite losing today's
0:19:32 > 0:19:34first singles match to Albert Ramos Vinolas in Marbella.
0:19:34 > 0:19:38Joe Lynskey reports.
0:19:38 > 0:19:42The Davis Cup is where tennis turns tribal.
0:19:42 > 0:19:46It requires a special kind of resilience, but this weekend,
0:19:46 > 0:19:50new British talent has emerged.
0:19:50 > 0:19:53Camerons Norrie.
0:19:53 > 0:19:56Before yesterday, he had never played beyond three sets,
0:19:56 > 0:19:57now he was keeping this tie alive.
0:19:57 > 0:19:58Oh, my goodness!
0:19:58 > 0:20:01The Briton recovered from two breaks down to force a first set tie-break.
0:20:01 > 0:20:04The problem was he faced a player ranked almost
0:20:04 > 0:20:06a hundred places higher.
0:20:06 > 0:20:09Spain's Albert Ramos- Vinolas can finish the important
0:20:09 > 0:20:13points, but Norrie's fightback inspired a greater revival.
0:20:13 > 0:20:18In the second set, he did not just respond, he ran away with it.
0:20:18 > 0:20:24This was becoming a match to define Davis Cup drama,
0:20:24 > 0:20:26and Norrie was summoning barely believable strokes.
0:20:26 > 0:20:28He has got it!
0:20:28 > 0:20:30How on earth did he win that point?
0:20:30 > 0:20:33It forced the match to a third set tie-break,
0:20:33 > 0:20:35another pressure situation, but these are the moments
0:20:35 > 0:20:37when experience counts.
0:20:37 > 0:20:45Ramos-Vinolas wins his second tie-break of the match.
0:20:48 > 0:20:55This is the weekend that Britain pushed the world's number three. In
0:20:55 > 0:20:58Camerons Norrie, they found the resilience required for a Davis Cup
0:20:58 > 0:20:59player.
0:20:59 > 0:21:03It's been a dramatic day in the Premier League but it is time
0:21:03 > 0:21:09to pop out of the room if you don't want to know the scores as Match
0:21:09 > 0:21:11of the Day 2 follows soon on BBC One.
0:21:11 > 0:21:13There was a thrilling and controversial end to the game
0:21:13 > 0:21:15between third placed, Liverpool and Tottenham.
0:21:15 > 0:21:18Mo Salah scored twice for Liverpool but it ended in a 2-2 draw.
0:21:18 > 0:21:21Harry Kane missed a penalty then converted one in the final seconds.
0:21:21 > 0:21:26In the day's other game, Crystal Palace and Newcastle drew 1-1.
