0:00:22 > 0:00:30Good evening.
0:00:30 > 0:00:34The UN Security Council is expected to vote shortly in a new attempt to
0:00:34 > 0:00:37get a resolution calling for a 30 day ceasefire in Syria.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40The vote has been delayed repeatedly to avoid drawing a veto from Russia.
0:00:40 > 0:00:41The Syrian government is continuing its bombardment
0:00:41 > 0:00:43of the rebel-held area of Eastern Ghouta,
0:00:43 > 0:00:48near the capital Damascus.
0:00:48 > 0:00:51Activists say around 500 civilians have been killed in the last week.
0:00:51 > 0:00:59This report from Richard Galpin contains distressing images.
0:01:00 > 0:01:04On the ground in eastern Ghouta the seventh consecutive day of punishing
0:01:04 > 0:01:09air strikes.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12air strikes. This video filmed by the voluntary rescue teams known as
0:01:12 > 0:01:20the White helmets show yet more casualties being picked up. At least
0:01:20 > 0:01:2830 people reported to have been killed so far today. And this is the
0:01:28 > 0:01:31United Nations Security Council meets once again to try to pass a
0:01:31 > 0:01:34resolution allowing for a 30 day ceasefire in Syria after failing to
0:01:34 > 0:01:40do so yesterday and the day before because of Russian objections. If
0:01:40 > 0:01:45you look what happened in the last 24 hours, any delay of action by the
0:01:45 > 0:01:48security council leads to, again, more loss of life. We should end the
0:01:48 > 0:01:55violence now.Many children are amongst the almost 3000 people
0:01:55 > 0:02:03estimated to been killed or injured over the past week. Inside the
0:02:03 > 0:02:07hospitals, makeshift or official, doctors are struggling to cope with
0:02:07 > 0:02:13the huge number of casualties. Besides the injured, more than 120
0:02:13 > 0:02:20children have been killed, according to human rights activists. This
0:02:20 > 0:02:25young girl says she and her sister were caught up in the bombing. Her
0:02:25 > 0:02:33sister hit in the eye and now cannot see with it. The Syrian regime and
0:02:33 > 0:02:37its ally, Russia, say this aerial bombardment is only targeting
0:02:37 > 0:02:40jihadists militants and rebels who have been shelling parts of
0:02:40 > 0:02:44Damascus. But there is clear evidence on the ground of many
0:02:44 > 0:02:50civilian casualties. Richard Galpin, BBC News.
0:02:50 > 0:02:54Nick Bryant is at the UN in New York.
0:02:54 > 0:02:59Is this vote happening tonight, Nick?Yeah it looks like it's going
0:02:59 > 0:03:03to happen shortly, Jane, and it looks like they've reached an
0:03:03 > 0:03:06agreement, they have reached consensus on a ceasefire agreement.
0:03:06 > 0:03:11They have been negotiating this resolution for weeks. In the past 24
0:03:11 > 0:03:16hours the negotiations have looked very bleak, in fact, most of the UN
0:03:16 > 0:03:19ambassadors arrived at the Security Council today with speeches that
0:03:19 > 0:03:24were predicated on a Russian veto. In the last few minutes I've been
0:03:24 > 0:03:28watching those UN ambassadors making frantic edits to those speeches, and
0:03:28 > 0:03:33I've also had two people who are closely involved with the
0:03:33 > 0:03:37negotiation, texting me and saying, yes there is a deal. One adds a note
0:03:37 > 0:03:41of caution, let's wait to see the Russian ambassador put his hand up
0:03:41 > 0:03:44in the air to agree to it. But at the moment they do not think there
0:03:44 > 0:03:49is going to be a Russian veto on this resolution. They do think it's
0:03:49 > 0:03:54going to pass, and significantly. Just a few moments ago I watched the
0:03:54 > 0:03:58Swedish ambassador, who has drafted this resolution, who has been so
0:03:58 > 0:04:02integral involved in the negotiation. He was smiling. When he
0:04:02 > 0:04:06left the building, I was with him last night in New York, he looked
0:04:06 > 0:04:10like a broken man, but in the last few minutes he's been smiling.
0:04:10 > 0:04:15Another indication that this resolution will pass. Thanks very
0:04:15 > 0:04:18much. Nick Bryant at the United Nations.
0:04:18 > 0:04:20Two people have been remanded in custody,
0:04:20 > 0:04:22charged with causing the death of two young brothers
0:04:22 > 0:04:24by dangerous driving.
0:04:24 > 0:04:27Corey and Casper Platt-May, who were 6 and 2, were on a family
0:04:27 > 0:04:29trip to a park in Coventry when they were hit
0:04:29 > 0:04:30by a car on Thursday.
0:04:30 > 0:04:33Robert Brown, who's 53, and Gwendoline Harrison,
0:04:33 > 0:04:40who's 41, were remanded in custody by magistrates.
0:04:40 > 0:04:44The comedy actress Emma Chambers has died aged 53.
0:04:44 > 0:04:50Emma Chambers was best known for playing Alice Tinker in a long
0:04:50 > 0:04:59running series the Vicar of debris alongside Dawn French.
0:04:59 > 0:05:02As well as her role as Honey Thacker in Notting Hill.
0:05:02 > 0:05:05Hugh Grant, who starred along side her in the film,
0:05:07 > 0:05:10With all the sport- here's Karthi Gnanasegaram
0:05:10 > 0:05:14at the BBC Sport Centre.
0:05:14 > 0:05:16A record-breaking day for Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the
0:05:16 > 0:05:20Winter Olympic. Billie Morgan took bronze in the snowboarding big air
0:05:20 > 0:05:26competition and in doing so Wynne Team GB's fifth medal, their highest
0:05:26 > 0:05:29tally in Winter Olympics history. Andy Swiss reports from PyeongChang.
0:05:30 > 0:05:34He needs to go absolutely stratospheric. He is a former
0:05:34 > 0:05:38Acrobat with a dodgy knee but Billie Morgan was about to leap into
0:05:38 > 0:05:45history.Billie Morgan, yes!At 28 Morgan is a snowboarding veteran.
0:05:45 > 0:05:50This his last job, but surely his last Olympics. What a way to finish.
0:05:50 > 0:05:55That is absolutely huge.It propelled Morgan into bronze medal
0:05:55 > 0:06:00position and one by one his rivals hopes came tumbling down. He's gone!
0:06:00 > 0:06:03When the last one crashed, Morgan, to his utter disbelief, had his
0:06:03 > 0:06:09medal.It's pretty rad, if everybody landed their runs I wouldn't be in
0:06:09 > 0:06:12this position, so it's a bit of luck, luck of the draw. It came down
0:06:12 > 0:06:19to me on the day, happy days. Morgan's joy was also Team GB's. A
0:06:19 > 0:06:26record-breaking fifth medal of these games. The British team have had
0:06:26 > 0:06:30their ups and downs here. Billie Morgan has ensured they hit their
0:06:30 > 0:06:32target of making this their most successful Winter Olympics in
0:06:32 > 0:06:40history. There have been bitter disappointments. None more so than
0:06:40 > 0:06:44the women's curlers set to take their bronze medal match to an extra
0:06:44 > 0:06:47end, Catherine Muirhead went for broke, a shot for victory, but
0:06:47 > 0:06:52instead calamity.It's got to just sit right. It's not.Instead of
0:06:52 > 0:06:57knocking out Japan's stone, she knocked out her own, handing their
0:06:57 > 0:07:00opponents the bronze and Britain a desperate defeat.We're going home
0:07:00 > 0:07:09with nothing. We battled so hard. As I say, I'm devastated that it didn't
0:07:09 > 0:07:17turn out.For another woman, a day of extraordinary achievement.He's
0:07:17 > 0:07:20going to make history. After winning gold on skis last weekend it was
0:07:20 > 0:07:27gold on a snowboard for the Czech Republic. Two titles, two sports,
0:07:27 > 0:07:35one quite extraordinary athlete. Andy Swiss, BBC News, PyeongChang.
0:07:35 > 0:07:41Ireland have won fascinating six Nations encounter, beating Wales
0:07:41 > 0:07:4237-27. Adam Werritty
0:07:42 > 0:07:47around Dublin, the smiles were there, friendly high spirits perhaps
0:07:47 > 0:07:52but scratch the surface and you find a a contest with a harder edge. This
0:07:52 > 0:07:55victory has become one of the most fiercely fought of the tournament,
0:07:55 > 0:08:00pride, passion of course, but also now a stinging rivalry. This was
0:08:00 > 0:08:03Jacob Stockdale calming any Irish nerves. They wouldn't stay calm for
0:08:03 > 0:08:08long. Wales clear that picture here was vital to reignite their
0:08:08 > 0:08:12championship ambition. Gareth Davies are finding the spark for the
0:08:12 > 0:08:17visitors finding the lead. Ireland would find their inspiration in the
0:08:17 > 0:08:25people of Dublin. Dad needy and Cian Healy in their home city, both
0:08:25 > 0:08:29forcing their way over. This was a match that would end with holding
0:08:29 > 0:08:33their breath when Steff Evans crossed with minutes remaining,
0:08:33 > 0:08:36suddenly Wales could sense something special. One last effort but also
0:08:36 > 0:08:43one reckless pass. That was all Ireland need. A day that began with
0:08:43 > 0:08:46smiles. There will be a few more around Dublin this evening. Adam
0:08:46 > 0:08:51wild BBC News. Scotland have beaten England for the first time in a
