0:00:07 > 0:00:09You're watching Beyond One Hundred Days.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12It looks like a coup, it sounds like a coup -

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Zimbabwe's army insists it isn't.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17But it has seized control of the country and put

0:00:17 > 0:00:20President Mugabe under house arrest - is this the end

0:00:20 > 0:00:24of his 37 year rule?

0:00:24 > 0:00:26The military blocks access to government buildings,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28while soldiers take over the national broadcaster -

0:00:28 > 0:00:32we've the latest from Zimbabwe.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34As a conservative American politician you know you're

0:00:34 > 0:00:37in trouble when even Fox news turns against you - so does this make

0:00:37 > 0:00:40Judge Roy Moore nervous?

0:00:40 > 0:00:43For me, the judge has 24 hours.

0:00:43 > 0:00:49You must immediately and fully come up with a satisfactory explanation

0:00:49 > 0:00:53for your inconsistencies that I just showed.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Also on the programme.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Are foreign journalists agents of the state?

0:00:57 > 0:01:00The American and Russian governments move to limit the freedom

0:01:00 > 0:01:01of outside broadcasters in a new round of

0:01:01 > 0:01:03tit-for-tat diplomacy.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06And just one owner, very few miles on the clock.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08The Pope is putting his hot new ride up for sale.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12It's not really fit for purpose.

0:01:12 > 0:01:22Get in touch with us using the hashtag 'Beyond-One-Hundred-Days'.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Hello and welcome - I'm Katty Kay in Washington

0:01:27 > 0:01:29and Christian Fraser is in London.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32This is the first day since 1980 that Robert Mugabe has not been

0:01:32 > 0:01:35fully in charge in Zimbabwe - he's under house arrest

0:01:35 > 0:01:37and the military says it's temporarily taken control

0:01:37 > 0:01:39of the country.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43His fate is still uncertain and the army says this isn't a coup -

0:01:43 > 0:01:46but today at least he clearly isn't running the country.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48The military says it wants to remove criminals around

0:01:48 > 0:01:52the 93-year-old head of state.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55They may mean the President's wife, Grace, who's been on a power grab

0:01:55 > 0:01:57of her own recently, apparently with the aim

0:01:57 > 0:02:00of assuming her husband's job when he eventually moves on.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04But Mrs Mugabe, who's now in Namibia, was not a freedom

0:02:04 > 0:02:07fighter and she doesn't command the respect her husband earned

0:02:07 > 0:02:11through years of armed struggle against British colonisers.

0:02:11 > 0:02:17Here's the latest from our Zimbabwe correspondent, Shingai Nyoka.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20This is what Zimbabweans woke up to this morning,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23tanks on the streets of their capital city.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Something that has never happened in nearly 40 years of independence.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29So, what's changed?

0:02:29 > 0:02:32The answer came early this morning with a statement from the military

0:02:32 > 0:02:35on state TV saying that the Mugabe family were safe and that

0:02:35 > 0:02:40this was not a coup.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43What the Zimbabwe defence forces is doing is to pacify

0:02:43 > 0:02:45a degenerating political, social and economic

0:02:45 > 0:02:49situation in our country.

0:02:49 > 0:02:57Which, if not addressed, may result in violent conflict.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Overnight, President Mugabe, the world's oldest leader,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04lost control of the country he has led for 37 years.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07The generals say he remains president but clearly he is no

0:03:07 > 0:03:10longer calling the shots.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12The presence of the military is being felt here on the streets

0:03:12 > 0:03:16of Harare and some parts of the city are in lockdown.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20This is as close as we can get to some of the military tanks that

0:03:20 > 0:03:23have stationed themselves at strategic positions.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27One, as you can see, blocking access to the President's

0:03:27 > 0:03:31office and another has blocked access to Parliament.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34The president still has his supporters, especially in rural

0:03:34 > 0:03:41areas but here in Harare, it's a different story.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43TRANSLATION:We're going to have a good life now,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46we're looking forward to Christmas because of what's happened.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49We want to thank those who organised this and we want them to remain

0:03:49 > 0:03:54until our problems are resolved.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56TRANSLATION:I want to thank the general

0:03:56 > 0:03:57for removing this tyrant.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02He was ruling the country as if it belonged to his family.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Much will depend on how Zimbabwe's neighbours react,

0:04:04 > 0:04:07especially South Africa.

0:04:07 > 0:04:13Its president Jacob Zuma spoke to Mr Mugabe earlier and he will now

0:04:13 > 0:04:15send South Africa's defence Minister to Zimbabwe to assess

0:04:15 > 0:04:17the situation first-hand.

0:04:17 > 0:04:23I am hoping that the defence force will not move and do more damage,

0:04:23 > 0:04:25that they will be able to respect the constitution of Zimbabwe

0:04:26 > 0:04:32as well as the people of Zimbabwe.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35But in the end, this was all about a power struggle

0:04:35 > 0:04:36within Zimbabwe's ruling party.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39Last week, this man on the left, Emmerson Mnangagwa,

0:04:39 > 0:04:43was sacked as vice president.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46Like Mugabe he was a veteran of the country's struggle

0:04:46 > 0:04:50for independence but in recent years he's found himself up against this

0:04:50 > 0:04:53woman, Grace Mugabe, Robert Mugabe's young,

0:04:53 > 0:04:57ambitious and some would say ruthless wife, a one-time typist

0:04:57 > 0:05:01and now one of the most powerful political figures in the country.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04She had wanted to take over as vice president.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06A divisive figure.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Listen to the reception.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10BOOING.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14These were boos, not cheers.

0:05:14 > 0:05:19I don't care.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21And tonight, a warning from the British Foreign Office

0:05:21 > 0:05:23to British nationals in the city.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Stay at home, stay in your hotel room, wait until things

0:05:25 > 0:05:26settle down a bit.

0:05:26 > 0:05:32Zimbabweans now wonder what lies ahead.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34Change is clearly afoot but whether it's what Zimbabweans

0:05:34 > 0:05:39have been yearning for is far from clear.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42And joining us now from Capitol Hill is Democratic Senator Chris Coons

0:05:42 > 0:05:49who sits on the Foreign Relatiions Africa Subcommittee.

0:05:49 > 0:05:55Thank you for joining us. I do not know what you're hearing from

0:05:55 > 0:05:58Zimbabwe directly but as far as you know who was running the country

0:05:58 > 0:06:06now?By all the news reports we have heard including this from BBC, it is

0:06:06 > 0:06:12still the case that President Mugabe is in title President but he is

0:06:12 > 0:06:15under house arrest for military and so there is a question about what

0:06:15 > 0:06:20his status is. The current chair of the Africa subcommittee is joining

0:06:20 > 0:06:25me in a call to our ambassador in Zimbabwe in a few minutes. And we

0:06:25 > 0:06:30look forward to getting a current on the ground assessment from our

0:06:30 > 0:06:34ambassador about conditions in the country. What is your understanding

0:06:34 > 0:06:38of how much popular support there would be for the military in taking

0:06:38 > 0:06:44this kind of action? As you just reported, Grace Mugabe has been a

0:06:44 > 0:06:50very divisive figure and President Mugabe, his abrupt action to dismiss

0:06:50 > 0:06:55as Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and replace him in the upcoming Zanu

0:06:55 > 0:07:00PF convention with his wife is likely what sparked this action by

0:07:00 > 0:07:04the military. I think we can conclude from that that President

0:07:04 > 0:07:11Mugabe, his efforts to change from a one-man rule 201 family rule is a

0:07:11 > 0:07:14step too far for the Zimbabwean military and broader public to

0:07:14 > 0:07:20embrace.Obviously every embassy knows what is going on within the

0:07:20 > 0:07:25country. Presumably your embassy has been telling you that Robert Mugabe

0:07:25 > 0:07:36is not in good health he is very weak and frail? Can you hear me?

0:07:36 > 0:07:40Yes, you just came back. Your embassy must have been telling you

0:07:40 > 0:07:44for some time now that Robert Mugabe is frail and weak and in pretty poor

0:07:44 > 0:07:49health so you must have been expecting bad at this moment would

0:07:49 > 0:07:56come?That is right, many people engaged in US - Africa relations or

0:07:56 > 0:07:59who watch African developments have been waiting for some time for

0:07:59 > 0:08:04President Mugabe to have some succession plan. Further to be

0:08:04 > 0:08:09scheduled, fair and open elections. Mugabe is the longest running head

0:08:09 > 0:08:13of state in the world. And he is currently subject to sanctions from

0:08:13 > 0:08:17the United States because of human rights abuses and because of the way

0:08:17 > 0:08:21he has violated the constitution of Zimbabwe. It is my hope that the

0:08:21 > 0:08:27African Union and other regional forces and leaders will encourage

0:08:27 > 0:08:31every party in Zimbabwe to respect the constitution, to conduct

0:08:31 > 0:08:34themselves peacefully and that there will be a path forward that includes

0:08:34 > 0:08:40a free and open elections. And your committee has been critical about

0:08:40 > 0:08:45the way the economy has been run, the corruption in the country and

0:08:45 > 0:08:48the way wealth has been spirited away. What would you like to see

0:08:48 > 0:08:55happen? I would like to see a clear path forward for the restoration of

0:08:55 > 0:09:00democratic rule through free and fair elections. I would like to see

0:09:00 > 0:09:03a peaceful transition and restoration of public confidence.

0:09:03 > 0:09:06And if that could be done in short order that would be the most

0:09:06 > 0:09:11positive thing for the people of the country. The United States has

0:09:11 > 0:09:14contributed to humanitarian relief in recent years because of the

0:09:14 > 0:09:18collapse of the economy. And significant humanitarian challenges

0:09:18 > 0:09:23due to famine and food shortages. We will continue to stand with the

0:09:23 > 0:09:25people of Zimbabwe but the United States and many other countries have

0:09:25 > 0:09:34long been critical of the rule of Robert Mugabe.Thank you very much.

0:09:34 > 0:09:43Let us know what transpires call with the ambassador. I lived in

0:09:43 > 0:09:46Zimbabwe in 1989 and it was clear even then the country was heading

0:09:46 > 0:09:53for economic problems. There were long lines for the buses, a shortage

0:09:53 > 0:09:56of foreign currency, the land reforms were just beginning. It was

0:09:56 > 0:10:00the start of the aids crisis in Zimbabwe and if someone had said

0:10:00 > 0:10:04then if Mugabe would still be in power 27 years later I would've said

0:10:04 > 0:10:07it was just not possible. He is one of those African leaders who has

0:10:07 > 0:10:11defied all the laws of nature and longevity and managed to cling to

0:10:11 > 0:10:17power for a full 37 years. Remarkable. He has never shown any

0:10:17 > 0:10:23inclination to step aside or accept defeat at the polls. I was there 15

0:10:23 > 0:10:28years ago reporting for the BBC and I remember going to one place and I

0:10:28 > 0:10:31saw there was a famine that year because the farms were failing and

0:10:31 > 0:10:37had been a drought. There bags of maize stacked up against the polling

0:10:37 > 0:10:40station and if you had a Zanu PF card you could take one of the bags

0:10:40 > 0:10:46with you but if you were from the MVC you were denied. And by back

0:10:46 > 0:10:50then, 15 years ago, you could see food aid was being used as a

0:10:50 > 0:10:56political weapon. So this was also a stand he took not just against white

0:10:56 > 0:11:03farmers but against his opponents in the country. You feed voters when

0:11:03 > 0:11:08they come to the polls, a long-standing tradition in Africa.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11Today Donald Trump has tweeted about basket ball players needing

0:11:11 > 0:11:13to be more grateful to him, his strong relationship

0:11:13 > 0:11:15with Xi Jinping and the iniquities of fake news.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18He has not so far weighed in on the future of Republican Senate

0:11:18 > 0:11:20candidate Roy Moore who's been accused of sexually

0:11:20 > 0:11:21molesting teenagers.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24Lots of Republicans in Washington are waiting for him to do so.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27They want the President to settle the candidate's future and ideally

0:11:27 > 0:11:29force him to get out of the race.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Mr Moore denies the allegations and he continues to have the support

0:11:32 > 0:11:33of the local Republican part.

0:11:33 > 0:11:38Here's Rajini Vaidyanathan reporting from Montgomery, Alabama.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41Out on the campaign trail, Roy Moore was defiant as he hit back

0:11:41 > 0:11:45at allegations of sexual assault.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47I am now facing allegations, and that is all the press

0:11:47 > 0:11:51want to talk about.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53But I want to talk about the issues.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56I want to talk about where this country is going.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59In the past week five women have come forward accusing him

0:11:59 > 0:12:01of sexual misconduct, dating back several decades.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04He denies the claims.

0:12:04 > 0:12:08The youngest said she was just 14 when she was sexually assaulted.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12Beverly Young Nelson says she was 16 when he forced himself on her.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15I thought that he was going to rape me.

0:12:15 > 0:12:20I was twisting and I was struggling and I was begging him to stop.

0:12:20 > 0:12:28The former judge is no stranger to controversy.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31He is pro-gun, anti-gay, does not believe in evolution,

0:12:31 > 0:12:33and he once said Islam was a false religion.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36At a gathering at the Montgomery country club the majority of voters

0:12:36 > 0:12:38we spoke to were not troubled by the allegations.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40You cannot tell how old anybody is down here

0:12:40 > 0:12:42in the south, that is for sure.

0:12:42 > 0:12:50Because you know some of these girls look like they're 20.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Some look like thy are 14 but I don't know, that's why I say

0:12:53 > 0:12:55I just feel it is really suspicious it took 40

0:12:55 > 0:12:57years for anyone to come forward.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59I think they have been put up to it.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01There may have been some problems 40 years ago,

0:13:01 > 0:13:04I don't know about all that, but I will say this.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07Judge Roy Moore is a righteous man, he is a good man and he wants

0:13:07 > 0:13:09to win for this country.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Unfortunately in this state I think he is still going to win.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14I do not think he should.

0:13:14 > 0:13:21Here and across this state there is still huge

0:13:21 > 0:13:22support for Roy Moore.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25Many say they do not like being told what to do and believe that this

0:13:25 > 0:13:27is a political conspiracy conceived by the Democrats.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29But beyond these quarters there is growing pressure

0:13:29 > 0:13:33on Roy Moore to step aside.

0:13:33 > 0:13:34Back in Washington senior Republicans have been

0:13:34 > 0:13:39lining up to denounce him.

0:13:39 > 0:13:40Roy Moore should step aside.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43The women who have come forward are entirely credible.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46He is obviously not fit to be in the United States Senate.

0:13:46 > 0:13:48Fresh from his trip to Asia, Donald Trump will now have

0:13:48 > 0:13:52to decide how to deal with this unfolding scandal.

0:13:52 > 0:13:54A year ago he himself was the subject of sexual assault

0:13:54 > 0:13:58allegations which he denied.

0:13:58 > 0:14:04But they did not hurt his path to the White House.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06With Roy Moore still ahead in the polls, it might not make

0:14:07 > 0:14:15a difference in this race either.

0:14:15 > 0:14:22In the last few minutes Roy Moore has sent out a tweet, we believe in

0:14:22 > 0:14:24God, the constitution, the sanctity of life and the sanctity of

0:14:24 > 0:14:28marriage. Where everything that the Washington elite eight, we will not

0:14:28 > 0:14:34quit. But it looks as if he's running out of allies even those on

0:14:34 > 0:14:40the conservative media station Fox News.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43Host Sean Hannity - who has been a die hard supporter -

0:14:43 > 0:14:45issuing a stern ultimatum.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48For me, the judge has 24 hours.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50You must immediately and fully come up with a satisfactory explanation

0:14:50 > 0:14:55for your inconsistencies that I just showed.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58You must remove any doubt.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00If he cannot do this then Judge Moore needs

0:15:00 > 0:15:01to get out of this race.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05This country has way too many issues and problems.

0:15:05 > 0:15:14The American people deserve 100% truth and honesty.

0:15:14 > 0:15:20And Rajini joins us now from Montgomery, Alabama.

0:15:20 > 0:15:27It is interesting, the voices of people who support Roy Moore and I'm

0:15:27 > 0:15:30sure they think the Washington Post is just part of the liberal media

0:15:30 > 0:15:34conspiracy but when they hear Fox News host Sean Hannity raising

0:15:34 > 0:15:40questions about him and his past does that ring a bell with him --

0:15:40 > 0:15:47but then? Not necessarily, that a band that you saw in the report

0:15:47 > 0:15:50their was mainly Republicans and every single Republican I've spoken

0:15:50 > 0:15:55to came up with three main reasons why they still support Roy Moore.

0:15:55 > 0:15:58The main one is that they simply do not believe these women who have

0:15:58 > 0:16:03come forward with these allegations. They have issues with the time it

0:16:03 > 0:16:07took the women to come forward with their stories. And many also said

0:16:07 > 0:16:13they believed this is a Democratic plot. They kept using the word

0:16:13 > 0:16:18collusion and that they think it is fake news. That of course plays into

0:16:18 > 0:16:22what Roy Moore was saying, in many ways a reflection of what we saw not

0:16:22 > 0:16:26just now in recent weeks when there was the run-off for the Senate seat

0:16:26 > 0:16:31but also during the election, a battle between the Washington elite,

0:16:31 > 0:16:34people like Mitch McConnell and the Washington Post liberal media as

0:16:34 > 0:16:38they say, and between southern evangelicals and conservative

0:16:38 > 0:16:42values. So even if Sean Hannity is saying something odd that people

0:16:42 > 0:16:47here are still standing behind Roy Moore. Many people in Alabama say

0:16:47 > 0:16:52they do not like being told what to do by people from outside. And there

0:16:52 > 0:16:56is not going to be a trial over this, no fact-finding mission. These

0:16:56 > 0:17:03allegations just go too far back in time? That is right, and that is

0:17:03 > 0:17:07what many people I was talking to yesterday said. There is no charge

0:17:07 > 0:17:12here, and that is because the time has passed. So there is no proof.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16But it is quite telling that people do not at all in certain camps here

0:17:16 > 0:17:21believe the women in any way. And they believe as I said that this is

0:17:21 > 0:17:25simply an attempt to discredit them. Will this affect the outcome of this

0:17:25 > 0:17:31race, well we've been told in a couple of hours from now the

0:17:31 > 0:17:34Republican committee here in Alabama will be talking to discuss whether

0:17:34 > 0:17:40or not to decertify Roy Moore from the candidacy. Now if he was

0:17:40 > 0:17:44decertified that means if he was to win the race then the Republicans

0:17:44 > 0:17:48here could then hold another election for the Senate seat. But

0:17:48 > 0:17:52that is pretty unlikely if you have many local Republican groups, not

0:17:52 > 0:17:57just those I spoke to last night by the number of Republican

0:17:57 > 0:18:00associations who have issued statements saying they are solidly

0:18:00 > 0:18:03behind Roy Moore. That can cause a split in the party probably is also

0:18:03 > 0:18:08the option of having another candidate, that Republicans could

0:18:08 > 0:18:11rally behind another candidate and everyone could write that name on

0:18:11 > 0:18:14the ballot and they could potentially go on to win the race.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17But critics of that theory believed it would simply split the vote and

0:18:17 > 0:18:23could play into the hands of the Democrats. And we just had that

0:18:23 > 0:18:27tweet, Roy Moore has been tweeting quite a lot and says he's not going

0:18:27 > 0:18:31anywhere. He knows he has the support of people here in the state

0:18:31 > 0:18:34and will continue to stay in the race and could potentially end up

0:18:34 > 0:18:41winning the seat.Thank you and the president is due to speak about this

0:18:41 > 0:18:51in about half an hour. The other day we spoke about the president not

0:18:51 > 0:18:54being his biggest fan, he needs to do something to keep the numbers in

0:18:54 > 0:19:01the Senate and maybe he could kill two birds with one stone. It would

0:19:01 > 0:19:05get Jeff Sessions out of Washington, it would help them hang on to the

0:19:05 > 0:19:08Senate. They only have a two seat majority and they're trying to get

0:19:08 > 0:19:13through a lot of legislation, tax reform bills for example and Beeney

0:19:13 > 0:19:18the Senate majority. So that could make sense, but would Jeff Sessions

0:19:18 > 0:19:22buy it, going back to being a senator from Alabama or would he see

0:19:22 > 0:19:29that as a bit of a demotion. He would want some assurances. Back to

0:19:29 > 0:19:31our top story in Zimbabwe.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33Let's go live to Zimbabwe now and our correspondent

0:19:33 > 0:19:37there is Anne Soy.

0:19:37 > 0:19:44Give us a sense of what it feels like there tonight?A lot of

0:19:44 > 0:19:47questions, people are apprehensive about what is going to happen next.

0:19:47 > 0:19:53It appears to be calm, people going about their business. Children going

0:19:53 > 0:19:57back home from school. But people are asking what is going to happen

0:19:57 > 0:20:04to the country. President Mugabe has been in power and 37 years and being

0:20:04 > 0:20:07in leadership has been a symbol of stability even though the country

0:20:07 > 0:20:11has gone through so many problems economically. But this is a moment

0:20:11 > 0:20:19in history, but people do not know what form the future will take. So

0:20:19 > 0:20:25the next step to be taken by the military is going to be very

0:20:25 > 0:20:32important in what direction the country heads. What is clear right

0:20:32 > 0:20:38now Grace Mugabe, and her whereabouts are not certain at this

0:20:38 > 0:20:41point, may have fallen out of favour with many people especially in the

0:20:41 > 0:20:45military. They seem to favour the former vice president who was sacked

0:20:45 > 0:20:50last week, Emmerson Mnangagwa. The regional leaders are also heavily

0:20:50 > 0:20:56involved in the process of trying to broker a kind of end to the process

0:20:56 > 0:21:03and returned to civilian leadership. The military insist that the

0:21:03 > 0:21:07president President Mugabe is still president. We do not know until

0:21:07 > 0:21:11when, he is under house arrest. So a lot of uncertainty but also they're

0:21:11 > 0:21:17saying this is not a cool even though it very much looks like one.

0:21:17 > 0:21:23And in 2013 when there was a coup in Egypt, they were suspended from the

0:21:23 > 0:21:26African Union so it could be the military does not want to antagonise

0:21:26 > 0:21:34other leaders on this continent. Thank you very much. Communication

0:21:34 > 0:21:39is of course tricky at the minute.

0:21:39 > 0:21:41At least ten people have died after heavy rain caused

0:21:41 > 0:21:42flash flooding in Greece.

0:21:42 > 0:21:44Many people were trapped in their homes and vehicles

0:21:44 > 0:21:47after the storm struck towns surrounding the capital Athens.

0:21:47 > 0:21:48A number of others are still missing.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51The US Secretary of State has called for an independent investigation

0:21:51 > 0:21:53into widespread violence against Myanmar's Rohingya's Muslims.

0:21:53 > 0:22:00Rex Tillerson pledged more air for refugees

0:22:00 > 0:22:03aid for refugees who have fled to Bangladesh, during a visit

0:22:03 > 0:22:05to the country, describing the scenes as 'horrific'.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Lebanon's President Michel Aoun has publicly accused Saudi Arabia

0:22:07 > 0:22:08of detaining its prime minister.

0:22:08 > 0:22:09Saad Hariri announced his resignation unexpectedly

0:22:10 > 0:22:11during a visit to Riyadh.

0:22:11 > 0:22:13Mr Aoun said 'nothing justified' his continued absence

0:22:13 > 0:22:16and it was a breach of his human rights.

0:22:16 > 0:22:18Australians have voted by a big majority in favour

0:22:18 > 0:22:19of legalising same sex marriage.

0:22:19 > 0:22:21The results of the historic nationwide poll shows more

0:22:21 > 0:22:24than sixty percent of people supporting changing the law.

0:22:24 > 0:22:26The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball says he wants to pass

0:22:26 > 0:22:35a bill by Christmas.

0:22:35 > 0:22:39Pope Francis is not a man of bling.

0:22:39 > 0:22:42He's known to drive a simple Ford for trips inside the Vatican walls -

0:22:42 > 0:22:46and shuns expensive vehicles on trips abroad.

0:22:46 > 0:22:50But today he got the keys to this - a white, special edition

0:22:50 > 0:22:56Lamborghini Huracan, worth 180 thousand euros.

0:22:56 > 0:22:59But the Pope won't actually be cruising the dream car on Rome's

0:22:59 > 0:23:09cobbled streets anytime soon - as he won't be keeping it.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14Graffiti on the bonnet! That is the papal signature!Probably worth more

0:23:14 > 0:23:20than the car. He has blessed it as well.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22The Vatican say the vehicle will be auctioned at Sotheby's,

0:23:22 > 0:23:24with proceeds going to three different charities.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26One of them includes a fund to rebuild homes and churches

0:23:26 > 0:23:29for Christians forced out of Iraq by so called Islamic

0:23:29 > 0:23:38State militants.

0:23:38 > 0:23:470260 in 2.5 seconds, I just had to check.I'm not hearing a tiny note

0:23:47 > 0:23:52of envy at the moment! The idea that the Pope... Are you going to be

0:23:52 > 0:23:58bidding on it? Not after the diamonds last night. You have

0:23:58 > 0:24:04bankrupted yourself! Next year then, I will give you that Lamborghini.

0:24:04 > 0:24:09And we have some pictures, pulp mill Beals through the years. Let's go

0:24:09 > 0:24:16back in time.

0:24:16 > 0:24:24-- Popemobiles.

0:24:24 > 0:24:31Let's take a look. My little story, when the Pope came to America a year

0:24:31 > 0:24:39ago he was driving as we said in one of those little Fiat cars. Driving

0:24:39 > 0:24:43through Washington and I raced down on my bicycle to capture a glimpse

0:24:43 > 0:24:48of the pub going by. There you go. This is exactly what I saw, the

0:24:48 > 0:24:53Windows one down and he was waving to the crowds. And I thought, good

0:24:53 > 0:24:58for you. We forget now because we have become so used to this pub but

0:24:58 > 0:25:02it was a sea in every message that he sent, that this is going to be a

0:25:02 > 0:25:08church where I put four people at the centre of the church. This is no

0:25:08 > 0:25:13more the Vatican of the wealthy. And the powerful. And all that moving

0:25:13 > 0:25:16out of the Vatican and driving that Fiat car. I have to say that

0:25:16 > 0:25:21Lamborghini makes me rethink the whole thing.I have only once driven

0:25:21 > 0:25:29a Fiat 500, with only two doors, at an airport parking place, I had

0:25:29 > 0:25:36never driven one since. We should never be given time to talk about

0:25:36 > 0:25:37cars!

0:25:37 > 0:25:39This is Beyond 100 Days from the BBC.

0:25:39 > 0:25:43Coming up for viewers on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News.

0:25:43 > 0:25:46As the military moves into Zimbabwe and President Mugabe said

0:25:46 > 0:25:49to be under house arrest, what next for the man who's ruled

0:25:49 > 0:25:51the country for 37 years?

0:25:51 > 0:25:53And the so-called Westminster rebellion - the fallout

0:25:53 > 0:25:55from a newspaper article brandishing these Tory MPs as 'Brexit Mutineers'

0:25:56 > 0:26:03- that's still to come.

0:26:11 > 0:26:16Today across many parts of the country it was not a pretty picture.

0:26:16 > 0:26:20Grey skies and drizzle and that continues through tonight. But

0:26:20 > 0:26:24tomorrow some very different conditions on the way. This cloud on

0:26:24 > 0:26:29the satellite picture is moving in our direction, that has a cold front

0:26:29 > 0:26:34and behind that we have colder air which is soon going to move into the

0:26:34 > 0:26:40UK and turn much colder. You will notice the temperatures dipping. So

0:26:40 > 0:26:45through tonight the cold front starting to encroach into

0:26:45 > 0:26:49north-western parts of the UK. By the end of the night it is somewhere

0:26:49 > 0:26:53across southern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. To the south

0:26:53 > 0:26:57the air is still mild with still some drizzle. The first thing the

0:26:57 > 0:27:02morning still pretty overcast across southern areas of the UK. But with

0:27:02 > 0:27:06increasing breeze ahead of the front, the cloud will start to break

0:27:06 > 0:27:11up so I do not think Thursday morning is going to be as grey as

0:27:11 > 0:27:15what we've just had. This is the cold front and behind that you can

0:27:15 > 0:27:21see temperatures a lot lower, down into single figures. A bit of

0:27:21 > 0:27:27mountain snow across Scotland and a rash of showers for the afternoon.

0:27:27 > 0:27:33But look how much brighter it is, the cloud push towards the south. As

0:27:33 > 0:27:39the weather front moves into the south-east. So around 14 degrees in

0:27:39 > 0:27:44London but for most of us more like 8 degrees. But there's tonight into

0:27:44 > 0:27:49Friday, the cold front moves away, we are in high pressure, the skies

0:27:49 > 0:27:53should clear and for many of us apart from the North, it starts

0:27:53 > 0:27:58Chile with a frost around and basically then we're in for a fine

0:27:58 > 0:28:04autumn day. Temperatures around eight seven, 8 degrees in the far

0:28:04 > 0:28:08north. Then clear skies continue into Friday night so Saturday

0:28:08 > 0:28:17morning across many parts, there will be a frost, and the temperature

0:28:17 > 0:28:22is perhaps getting up to around 12 degrees. But for most of us in

0:28:22 > 0:28:26single figures. Then Saturday into Sunday, a low pressure moves in and

0:28:26 > 0:28:30the end of the weekend looking potentially wet.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25African Union criticises the seizure of power by the military in

0:30:25 > 0:30:33Zimbabwe. The Republican candidate for the US

0:30:33 > 0:30:37Senate in Alabama continues to campaign.

0:30:37 > 0:30:42President Trump is back from his trip to Asia trumpeting his treats

0:30:42 > 0:30:49relationships but do his supporters like what they have heard?

0:30:49 > 0:30:53And we will take you to the beatbox World Championships where percussion

0:30:53 > 0:31:04is the key to victory.

0:31:19 > 0:31:28Nelson Mandela and Robert Mugabe have much in common. Nelson Mandela

0:31:28 > 0:31:32spent 27 years in prison, Robert Mugabe, spent 11. Nelson Mandela

0:31:32 > 0:31:38when he got into power spent five years in power. Robert Mugabe has

0:31:38 > 0:31:41spent 37 years in power, the longer he has been in power, the more

0:31:41 > 0:31:55authoritarian he has become. The average life expectancy in Zimbabwe

0:31:55 > 0:32:02today is just 60 years. Our Africa editor has been looking back at

0:32:02 > 0:32:06Robert Mugabe's rule. Robert Mugabe is a leader who has

0:32:06 > 0:32:13outlived his Epoque. From fighter against racist rule, to

0:32:13 > 0:32:27authoritarian.There was a deceptive capital -- a deceptive calm on the

0:32:27 > 0:32:32day of independence. He and other revolutionary leaders... Robert

0:32:32 > 0:32:41Mugabe went to prison for ten years and later fled to join his

0:32:41 > 0:32:48guerillas. A revolutionary Waugh led to thousands of casualties. When

0:32:48 > 0:32:56South Africa withdrew support for the regime,...They have to accept

0:32:56 > 0:33:02it in as much as they must accept political domination.Under the

0:33:02 > 0:33:07stewardship of the old British colonial power there were elections

0:33:07 > 0:33:11which Robert Mugabe one, promising forgiveness and tolerance.True

0:33:11 > 0:33:17allegiance to Zimbabwe.But in power a ruthless nature swiftly asserted

0:33:17 > 0:33:27itself.My Government will never rest until those in that party who

0:33:27 > 0:33:37are responsible are crashed completely. In one province to use

0:33:37 > 0:33:43the army to crush supporters of a rival army. It was a pitiless

0:33:43 > 0:33:49campaign as I discovered when I went to investigate the atrocities.

0:33:49 > 0:33:55This is a country in a state of fear. Everywhere you go there are

0:33:55 > 0:34:00militia, roadblocks, and the spies. The West stayed silent believing

0:34:00 > 0:34:04Robert Mugabe was good for stability and had kept his promise to allow

0:34:04 > 0:34:11white farmers hold their lands and lifestyle. But as opposition to his

0:34:11 > 0:34:15rule grew amid economic downturn he turned on the white farmers,

0:34:15 > 0:34:18harnessing anger over long festering grievances among the landless

0:34:18 > 0:34:30Bhullar and veterans of the guerilla Waugh. None of this troubled the

0:34:30 > 0:34:39army or the man tipped to succeed Robert Mugabe, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

0:34:39 > 0:34:51He was a veteran of the Waugh. The rise of grace Mugabe, her

0:34:51 > 0:35:03ostentatious spending shocked many. It is massive change in the sense

0:35:03 > 0:35:12that they head of Zanu-PF since mid-1970 is literally out of power.

0:35:12 > 0:35:17There is a an older generation of Africans some residual affection for

0:35:17 > 0:35:21a man once seen as an icon of liberation but his older regional

0:35:21 > 0:35:25allies are dead and gone and many in his own country will be glad to see

0:35:25 > 0:35:33the end of the age of Robert Mugabe. We are joined by a freelance

0:35:33 > 0:35:46journalist based in Harare. There is concern amongst ordinary

0:35:46 > 0:36:01people, what does this mean? What will that militarily do next?

0:36:04 > 0:36:11How would you characterise what has gone on? The Army say it is not a

0:36:11 > 0:36:24clue, is that how people see it? Absolutely not. The people see this

0:36:24 > 0:36:31as a coup and removal of Robert Mugabe. Robert Mugabe no longer has

0:36:31 > 0:36:38the power, not only to move as he pleases, but also to run his

0:36:38 > 0:36:45Government and make decisions. He is essentially under house arrest. Many

0:36:45 > 0:36:52of his ministers have been arrested. Others are being hunted by the

0:36:52 > 0:36:58military. These are characteristics of 80 over by that militarily. The

0:36:58 > 0:37:03use of the language by that militarily to deny that this is a

0:37:03 > 0:37:07coup is intended for the international community, but also

0:37:07 > 0:37:18intended to facilitate possibly the legalisation of the succession plan.

0:37:18 > 0:37:24We do not know what will happen to Robert Mugabe. If he were to go what

0:37:24 > 0:37:29would be the reaction of people in the country, or the voters in the

0:37:29 > 0:37:36country?People are torn apart by the current political events in

0:37:36 > 0:37:47Zimbabwe. Essentially they are saying the two sides that have

0:37:47 > 0:37:54terrorised them, now fighting against each other. For many people,

0:37:54 > 0:38:01any change whatever, it is better than no change at all, so for

0:38:01 > 0:38:09ordinarily people, they are saying that maybe the militarily, will lead

0:38:09 > 0:38:15to transformation for the economy and democratic transformation to

0:38:15 > 0:38:21bring about positive change. This is change, no matter whether it is

0:38:21 > 0:38:29positive or negative, there is an area of celebration, but equally,

0:38:29 > 0:38:36what will that militarily do next? We will be following that story.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39President Trump is back from his 12 day trip to Asia and within the next

0:38:39 > 0:38:41hour he is scheduled to speak about it.

0:38:41 > 0:38:44Today he said on twitter that he has a great relationship with China's

0:38:44 > 0:38:47president Xi Jinping and that the US is being respected again.

0:38:47 > 0:38:54Here at home he returns to a long to-do list -

0:38:54 > 0:38:56including attempts to get tax reform passed through Congress -

0:38:56 > 0:38:58which would provide a much needed legislative win.

0:38:58 > 0:39:01For more on the president's record we are joined now by

0:39:01 > 0:39:04Republican New York Councilman Joe Borelli.

0:39:04 > 0:39:10When you look at the Asia trip, and the president says it is a great win

0:39:10 > 0:39:14for the night of state, I am wondering about President's trump

0:39:14 > 0:39:19supporters and voters who said they wanted him to impose tariffs on

0:39:19 > 0:39:22China, be tougher on the trade surplus, and there he is saying it

0:39:22 > 0:39:29is not China's fault, how will that go down?$300 billion in deals

0:39:29 > 0:39:33coming from that meeting speaks to the opposite. As a supporter the

0:39:33 > 0:39:45president was successful on style and substance.

0:39:46 > 0:39:48Stylistically we saw the same thing in his Middle East trip earlier,

0:39:48 > 0:39:51where even though Americans may not want to accept that he is our

0:39:51 > 0:39:53elected president, leaders of foreign countries rolled out the red

0:39:53 > 0:39:55carpet. We also saw him tightening the noose on north Korea. He has

0:39:55 > 0:40:00always had a good relationship with the Prime Minister and president of

0:40:00 > 0:40:05South Korea, but all three of them have recommitted their commonality

0:40:05 > 0:40:12and common desire of the nuclear rising that area. There was some

0:40:12 > 0:40:15concern among people that follow that area of the world that during

0:40:15 > 0:40:20the course of this trip the centre of gravity had shifted away from

0:40:20 > 0:40:24United States towards Beijing, would you be concerned if it had seen that

0:40:24 > 0:40:29American leadership had somehow been reduced in that region? No. The

0:40:29 > 0:40:32president was effusive in his pleas for some of the things that the

0:40:32 > 0:40:36Chinese have done in respect of their own economy but even though

0:40:36 > 0:40:41the president wanted to pull out of the TPP he has been clear that he

0:40:41 > 0:40:50wants the US to be open to business for Asian colleagues. He got $300

0:40:50 > 0:40:55billion in deals. That is good. The domestic agenda comes to the

0:40:55 > 0:40:59forefront now. We will be talking about that later. Tax reforms have

0:40:59 > 0:41:04to go through the Senate. They are now attaching to it a repeal of the

0:41:04 > 0:41:12individual mandate on Obama care. At the end of the year, will he get two

0:41:12 > 0:41:18things that have been promised? It will be great if he does. Obama care

0:41:18 > 0:41:22is not a health plan. It did not open up new health care for

0:41:22 > 0:41:26individuals, it was a tax and penalty plan. One of the most

0:41:26 > 0:41:31controversial things going for it was this individual mandate. The

0:41:31 > 0:41:36repeal of which could save the national deficit $338 billion over

0:41:36 > 0:41:39ten years. If he gets both of these things there is no doubt that this

0:41:39 > 0:41:44would be viewed as a significant win for his base. The tax plan was

0:41:44 > 0:41:50already moving forward. But that not happen with some of the other plans.

0:41:50 > 0:41:56But this tax plan, both sides, the Senate, the House, looking forward

0:41:56 > 0:42:00to a compromise proposal amenable to everyone. The majority of Americans

0:42:00 > 0:42:06that every income level will see a significant benefit.Thank you.

0:42:06 > 0:42:08While the ongoing Russia investigation garnered most

0:42:08 > 0:42:10of the attention at Tuesday's hearing with Attorney

0:42:10 > 0:42:12General Jeff Sessions - he was also questioned

0:42:12 > 0:42:14about the lack of minorities at the Justice Department and being

0:42:14 > 0:42:22appointed to the federal bench.

0:42:22 > 0:42:24Although Sessions didn't say that "diversity

0:42:24 > 0:42:26is a matter of significance," the statistics fall short.

0:42:26 > 0:42:29So far 91 percent of Trump's 58 judicial nominees for district

0:42:29 > 0:42:31and appeals courts are white and only 19 percent

0:42:31 > 0:42:32of his picks are women.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35That's the lowest in nearly three decades.

0:42:35 > 0:42:36It's a point Congressman Cedric Richmond pressed

0:42:36 > 0:42:42the Attorney General on.

0:42:42 > 0:42:48How many African-Americans do you have on your senior staff?I do not

0:42:48 > 0:42:54have a senior staff member at this time that is an African-American.Of

0:42:54 > 0:43:00all the US attorneys that have been nominated and confirmed how many are

0:43:00 > 0:43:06African-American?One in Alabama that I have recommended. I believe

0:43:06 > 0:43:11it is only that one.Out of all the special agents in charge of FBI

0:43:11 > 0:43:17pupils how many are African-American?I do not know.

0:43:17 > 0:43:23That was Jeff Sessions talking about diversity, or lack of it in the

0:43:23 > 0:43:31administration. Under President Obama, 46% of judges were women, 36%

0:43:31 > 0:43:36were not white, experts say that if we have four years or eight years of

0:43:36 > 0:43:41minority judges not being nominated you are undercutting an entire

0:43:41 > 0:43:46generation of minority and female talent and that they will not get a

0:43:46 > 0:43:50chance to perform and practice sitting on the bench, and that set

0:43:50 > 0:43:54them back some considerable way. This is the most number of

0:43:54 > 0:43:57minorities and women since George HW Bush.

0:43:57 > 0:44:05You treated me about this the other day. The public face of the

0:44:05 > 0:44:09administration, Sanders, Kelly and Conway, they are women, they are

0:44:09 > 0:44:14visible, but it is the captain that we do not see often, people in the

0:44:14 > 0:44:18background, bats are all men and middle aged.

0:44:18 > 0:44:24And particularly, on the judiciary and judges we are at a time in the

0:44:24 > 0:44:28United States will is quite a lot of racial tension. We sought in

0:44:28 > 0:44:31Charlottesville in the summer with the Black lace matter movement and

0:44:31 > 0:44:38if you have a judiciary that looks more white and male that will only

0:44:38 > 0:44:42inflame a sense that people have that frankly that judges are not

0:44:42 > 0:44:47fair and the court system in America is not fair and that is one of the

0:44:47 > 0:44:53concerns about that. There is the picture of Jeff Sessions. There is

0:44:53 > 0:44:56one African-American and one woman in the room and that is the picture

0:44:56 > 0:45:05that prompted all of this investigation.

0:45:05 > 0:45:18Theresa May says she is listening. They are described as Brexit mute in

0:45:18 > 0:45:28years following the threat bat Brexit mutineers. Theresa May said

0:45:28 > 0:45:33she hoped MPs would come together. There is a lively debate and that is

0:45:33 > 0:45:38right and proper and important. There are strong views held on

0:45:38 > 0:45:43different sides of this argued about the European Union, on both sides of

0:45:43 > 0:45:47this House. What they are doing as a Government is listening to the

0:45:47 > 0:45:50contributions that are being made, we are listening carefully to those

0:45:50 > 0:45:55who wish to improve the bill, and I hope that we can all come together

0:45:55 > 0:45:58to implement the decision that the country took to leave the European

0:45:58 > 0:46:05Union.That picture in The Telegraph. We live in a democracy,

0:46:05 > 0:46:08MPs should be able to raise their concerns and scrutinise Government

0:46:08 > 0:46:12policy but that this sort of nonsense. I think the Daily

0:46:12 > 0:46:16Telegraph has come off worse. I was going to see that the 15 people that

0:46:16 > 0:46:22are pictured are reading this as a badge of pride. Anna Superleague

0:46:22 > 0:46:29said she would wear a pirate hat in the Commons. But one of the Labour

0:46:29 > 0:46:33MPs as saying that because this is on the front page, it is inevitable

0:46:33 > 0:46:38that you then get people to and threatening and inciting violence

0:46:38 > 0:46:43and all this sort of stuff. It is the responsible I think of the

0:46:43 > 0:46:47newspapers, whatever side of this debate you stand on, MPs are being

0:46:47 > 0:46:52opened up to threats of violence, then these newspapers need to think.

0:46:52 > 0:46:56We have had this before. The front page of The Daily Mail. This is what

0:46:56 > 0:47:01they said of the judges previously. Enemies of the people. When they

0:47:01 > 0:47:07were considering one of the constitutional issues. A lot of

0:47:07 > 0:47:10people to do very angry that The Telegraph had this on their front

0:47:10 > 0:47:15page. But it does come back to the tribal nature of politics.

0:47:15 > 0:47:29Yes, the sort of things that have been

0:47:30 > 0:47:42treated to Anna Soubry are terrible. We get it here in the United States.

0:47:42 > 0:47:45A figure has been blasted for seeing that Roy Moore needs to explain

0:47:45 > 0:47:57himself. And the allegation on the conspiracy against Hillary Clinton,

0:47:57 > 0:48:01someone has been slammed for that and told he had to resign. There is

0:48:01 > 0:48:07no room for nuance. When you turn against the credo of Europe

0:48:07 > 0:48:12political purity of your tribe, you get booted out, that is what these

0:48:12 > 0:48:15MPs are feeling, it is on both sides of the Atlantic.

0:48:15 > 0:48:23Depressing. It is. Still to come on the programme.

0:48:23 > 0:48:27Marching to the beat of your own hammer, the musicians beat boxing

0:48:27 > 0:48:38their way into World Championships.

0:48:48 > 0:48:50From baby-sitting in the evening to looking after the kids

0:48:50 > 0:48:52when you're at work, grandparents are playing an ever

0:48:52 > 0:48:54greater role in family life.

0:48:54 > 0:48:55But is that where the problem starts?

0:48:55 > 0:48:57Researchers at the University of Glasgow claim over-indulgent

0:48:57 > 0:48:59grandparents could be harming children's health.

0:48:59 > 0:49:00Jon Kay has

0:49:00 > 0:49:01more.

0:49:01 > 0:49:02It is feeding time at the zoo...

0:49:02 > 0:49:03Lunchtime with Nanna.

0:49:03 > 0:49:06And after a healthy sandwich, a chocolate bar for Max.

0:49:06 > 0:49:09Karen says she never used to give her own kids so many treats.

0:49:09 > 0:49:11But when you're a granny, it's different.

0:49:11 > 0:49:13I don't think it really hurts now and again.

0:49:13 > 0:49:14It is not all the time.

0:49:14 > 0:49:16I do like to make him happy.

0:49:16 > 0:49:18Karen says she makes sure he is healthy, too.

0:49:18 > 0:49:21But according to today's research, many youngsters all over the world

0:49:21 > 0:49:23are being overindulged by grandparents who give them too

0:49:23 > 0:49:24much sugary and fatty food.

0:49:24 > 0:49:27And because mums and dads often rely on grandparents for childcare,

0:49:27 > 0:49:30they can feel unable to speak out.

0:49:30 > 0:49:32In the park, Oliver and his son, Elijah.

0:49:32 > 0:49:34Oliver says that grandparents in their family are great

0:49:34 > 0:49:42but sometimes maybe a little bit too kind.

0:49:42 > 0:49:44I feel like these days kids just think everything

0:49:44 > 0:49:46should be handed to them.

0:49:46 > 0:49:48But obviously when he's with his grandparents,

0:49:48 > 0:49:50it is a bit more like, oh, just give him that,

0:49:50 > 0:49:51just give him that.

0:49:51 > 0:49:53What sort of stuff, what does he get?

0:49:53 > 0:49:54Sweets, chocolate.

0:49:54 > 0:49:56Bananas, fruits...

0:49:56 > 0:49:58But most of the grannies and grandads we met today

0:49:58 > 0:50:00insisted they always try to keep things healthy.

0:50:00 > 0:50:03I had a hot chocolate and you had just cold milk.

0:50:03 > 0:50:05Oh, so you're getting the sweet treat and he is not?

0:50:05 > 0:50:08I didn't have any sugar in mine!

0:50:08 > 0:50:10Mummy and daddy go...

0:50:10 > 0:50:13At the soft play, Patricia told me she now has the time and the money

0:50:13 > 0:50:16to treat her grandkids and she is not going to stop.

0:50:16 > 0:50:18He's my whole world, and his brother.

0:50:18 > 0:50:19The sun, the moon and stars.

0:50:19 > 0:50:23He can have whatever he likes.

0:50:23 > 0:50:25The study says grandparents have a key role to play

0:50:25 > 0:50:27in encouraging a healthy lifestyle and must give children

0:50:27 > 0:50:28clear messages.

0:50:28 > 0:50:38Jon Kay, BBC News, Poole.

0:50:38 > 0:50:41This week, RT, formerly known as Russia Today,

0:50:41 > 0:50:43fulfilled the demands of the Justice Department

0:50:43 > 0:50:45and registered here in the United States as a Foreign

0:50:45 > 0:50:47Agent.

0:50:47 > 0:50:52Today in retaliation, Russia responded in kind.

0:50:52 > 0:50:55The Duma, the lower house of parliament, voted in favour

0:50:55 > 0:50:58of a law that could restrict the work of foreign broadcast

0:50:58 > 0:51:00companies operating in Russia.

0:51:00 > 0:51:02Yes, tabled on Tuesday, the legislation was passed

0:51:02 > 0:51:03in super-fast time.

0:51:03 > 0:51:05I've been talking to our Correspondent

0:51:05 > 0:51:10in Moscow Sarah Rainsford.

0:51:10 > 0:51:14Tell us about the decision that has been taken and what it might mean

0:51:14 > 0:51:19for the broadcasters in Russia. It is a wide ranging law. That is

0:51:19 > 0:51:23deliberate. The idea is that it is the justice ministry in Russia which

0:51:23 > 0:51:29will decide who ends up on that blacklist and why. But it has a

0:51:29 > 0:51:34clearly strong weapon to use if it chooses to deploy that. For some

0:51:34 > 0:51:38companies, particularly at this point American ones, because this is

0:51:38 > 0:51:43a retaliation from what happened in American, these are anxious times.

0:51:43 > 0:51:48It is political. Remind us what has happened to Russia Today when they

0:51:48 > 0:51:53broadcast in the United States. This is definitely political. It was

0:51:53 > 0:51:58made clear in Parliament today, they said they were responding,

0:51:58 > 0:52:00reluctantly declaimed, to what had happened in the United States, which

0:52:00 > 0:52:07is where the Kremlin backed TV Channel Russia today has been

0:52:07 > 0:52:12obliged to register as a foreign agent. Russia has a similar law, it

0:52:12 > 0:52:17was modelled on the American Law originally. Russia contacted the

0:52:17 > 0:52:23note has to be branded as a news producer funded by the Russian

0:52:23 > 0:52:26Government, America says that is about transparency so that those who

0:52:26 > 0:52:29watched the programme note where getting their information from.

0:52:29 > 0:52:33Russia says it will do the same but it is going further and deeper, not

0:52:33 > 0:52:36just about state funded broadcasters, all foreign media

0:52:36 > 0:52:41operating in Russia. Tell me what the reaction has been

0:52:41 > 0:52:45to what Theresa May has said this week, we covered it on the programme

0:52:45 > 0:52:48last night, I'd be annoyed by what she said?

0:52:48 > 0:52:53If they are annoyed, they are not showing it. BR big scathing in their

0:52:53 > 0:52:59response. The foreign ministry published a photograph of these are

0:52:59 > 0:53:04looking dejected. That was a treat to put out on the official Foreign

0:53:04 > 0:53:08Ministry account. The message that went with that said, look how bad

0:53:08 > 0:53:13things are for Theresa May and Britain, all these problems caused

0:53:13 > 0:53:18by Brexit, we understand they have chosen an external enemy, they have

0:53:18 > 0:53:24chosen Russia, what a shame that is. A regrettable and unfortunate

0:53:24 > 0:53:28decision, and that the allegations were irresponsible according to the

0:53:28 > 0:53:31Foreign Ministry, but the general message was that Britain is looking

0:53:31 > 0:53:36for an enemy, and like America in the past, they have now find Russia

0:53:36 > 0:53:39to bash.

0:53:39 > 0:53:42We like to think of ourselves as pretty adventurous but I don't

0:53:42 > 0:53:45think you'll find either of us beat boxing any time soon.

0:53:45 > 0:53:46Well, certainly not me.

0:53:46 > 0:53:49I can't vouch for Christian.

0:53:49 > 0:53:54The beat box world championship has taken place in New York

0:53:54 > 0:54:00We went to have a listen.

0:54:00 > 0:54:05No matter how good they beat boxer is, anything can happen in a beatbox

0:54:05 > 0:54:18battle. My name is Anthony.

0:54:27 > 0:54:36I began to beat boxing for the fun of it. Now I want to show others how

0:54:36 > 0:54:40to beat boxing can't make an impact on the world.

0:54:48 > 0:54:54Welcome to the 2017 American beatbox Championship. If you want to really

0:54:54 > 0:55:01learn how to beatbox go back and look at how these brothers did it.

0:55:01 > 0:55:09People did not know what I was going to do.

0:55:09 > 0:55:16Now, kids can go online.

0:55:25 > 0:55:34I am the first boxer ever to tour Europe extensively. -- first

0:55:34 > 0:55:44beatbox. Before you too, Instagram, MySpace.

0:55:56 > 0:56:09Music has really touched the end the way that changed me forever.

0:56:11 > 0:56:16There really is a beat boxing World Championship.
