0:00:00 > 0:00:11But first, here's Click.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Driving stateside can be a liberating experience.

0:00:34 > 0:00:40Wide roads, big trucks, massive cars, but at a desert

0:00:40 > 0:00:44bottleneck like Las Vegas, it can be ever so slightly frustrating.

0:00:44 > 0:00:44Beep, beep!

0:00:44 > 0:00:53Come on.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56But today I am driving an Audi with a little more brainpower under

0:00:56 > 0:01:03the hood, sorry, bonnet.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05There is extra information about the current speed on it,

0:01:05 > 0:01:09and it also is telling me there is a red light that will turn

0:01:09 > 0:01:15green in about 30 seconds up ahead.

0:01:15 > 0:01:15Three, two, one.

0:01:16 > 0:01:29Here we go.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32The car is connected to Las Vegas's Traffic Management Centre over 4G.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35It reports its position and the centre tells them how long

0:01:35 > 0:01:37until the next light turns green.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Indicate left, and the centre informs me about the left light

0:01:40 > 0:01:40instead.

0:01:40 > 0:01:49And round we go.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53One of the advantages, says Audi, is that it is a bit of a stress

0:01:53 > 0:01:56and tension relief as you know you have some time before the light

0:01:56 > 0:02:01goes green so there is no point getting impatient.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05At the moment, this is only available in certain models of car,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08and only in Las Vegas, because this city has just one

0:02:08 > 0:02:15traffic management centre that handles all of the lights.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Some cities have more than 100 different authorities in charge

0:02:17 > 0:02:18of their signals.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22So, one obvious use for this in the future is to feed

0:02:22 > 0:02:28into an autonomous driving system.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32If the car knows when the lights are going to go green in front

0:02:32 > 0:02:34of it, then it can better driver itself.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37If it has some kind of backup data signal

0:02:37 > 0:02:40from the Traffic Management System then it should get it right more.

0:02:40 > 0:02:49Which is a good thing.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52It is judging that I will not make these lights.

0:02:52 > 0:02:53Oh, and it is right.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Now, I do not know much about the car industry,

0:02:59 > 0:03:03but what I do know is getting into it when you are a new player

0:03:03 > 0:03:09is really tough, and complex, and expensive.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Faraday Future is a company that heard all of those warnings

0:03:12 > 0:03:14and said, eh, let us try anyway.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16How is that going for them then?

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Dave investigates.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Faraday Future, a new car company that promises to beat Tesla

0:03:22 > 0:03:29at its own game.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33Last year at CES they showed us a scale model of a concept car

0:03:33 > 0:03:34they had no real intention of making.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37This year they promised something more, well, real.

0:03:37 > 0:03:46Introducing the FF 91.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50They're pretty proud of it, they say it can do zero to 60

0:03:50 > 0:03:54quicker than a Bentley or a Ferrari, and of course, a Tesla Model S.

0:03:54 > 0:03:55It can even park itself.

0:03:55 > 0:03:56Just press a button and...

0:03:56 > 0:03:57RECORD RIP.

0:03:57 > 0:03:58It is being lazy tonight.

0:03:58 > 0:03:59I'm being cruel.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01It can park on its own.

0:04:01 > 0:04:02I saw that for myself.

0:04:02 > 0:04:03It's going wide at the minute.

0:04:04 > 0:04:05This is a three-point turn.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09One of the reasons we do that is because we want to make sure

0:04:09 > 0:04:12all of the sensors in the car, of which there are many,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15can get a full view of the empty spot to verify there

0:04:15 > 0:04:18is no one there.

0:04:18 > 0:04:18Look at that.

0:04:19 > 0:04:19Spot on.

0:04:19 > 0:04:19Straight.

0:04:20 > 0:04:20Quite impressive.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24It is all well and good, but it will be some time before

0:04:24 > 0:04:25you can actually do this yourself.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29Each and every car park will need to be approved by Faraday Future

0:04:29 > 0:04:30before the feature will work.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33And there would need to gather data on the system and future cars

0:04:34 > 0:04:37so it is less chicken and egg and more chicken and $150,000 car

0:04:37 > 0:04:48that isn't even on the market yet.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50Speaking of which, Faraday Future have promised it will be

0:04:51 > 0:04:51ready by 2018.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55There is a lot of potential but it is hard for them to deliver.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58The factory they need to build this thing for example,

0:04:58 > 0:05:02they showed a picture of it and it is just a pile of dirt

0:05:02 > 0:05:03at the moment.

0:05:03 > 0:05:03The factory.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07To build its car, they have planned a huge plant in the Nevada Desert

0:05:07 > 0:05:10planning to become possible to make the cars next year.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13There are reports the factory is on hold because they are running

0:05:13 > 0:05:14out of money.

0:05:14 > 0:05:15Hello?

0:05:15 > 0:05:18It looks ready for construction but there is no equipment,

0:05:18 > 0:05:18no materials.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20And if they want this place ready by 2018,

0:05:20 > 0:05:34it doesn't look like they are making much progress.

0:05:34 > 0:05:35We are resource-limited at sometimes.

0:05:35 > 0:05:42Things like this need to take priority.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Construction of the factory has stopped for some point and it

0:05:45 > 0:05:47still looks like it is stopped.

0:05:47 > 0:05:48It will start soon.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52Was it because of financial restrictions?

0:05:52 > 0:05:55It is a matter of keeping the cash flow balance between the projects

0:05:55 > 0:05:57we are trying to do.

0:05:57 > 0:05:57Not too encouraging.

0:05:57 > 0:06:02But the good news is if they ever release a car it will blow

0:06:02 > 0:06:02your socks off.

0:06:02 > 0:06:03All right.

0:06:03 > 0:06:03Heads back.

0:06:03 > 0:06:04Hold on.

0:06:04 > 0:06:12Let's go!

0:06:12 > 0:06:12Oh my god!

0:06:12 > 0:06:13That is so quick.

0:06:13 > 0:06:14Oh my god.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17This is now the fastest production vehicle in the world.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19And we are just getting started.

0:06:19 > 0:06:19Well...

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Well it is not very useful on a school run,

0:06:21 > 0:06:22is it, really?

0:06:22 > 0:06:24That was Dave with Faraday Future.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39Hello and welcome to the Week in Tech.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42It was the week Facebook announced it would start trialling ads

0:06:42 > 0:06:45in the middle of videos, and Norway became the first country

0:06:45 > 0:06:48in the world to turn off its analogue radio signals.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51It was also the week the US military released footage of a test

0:06:51 > 0:06:54in California where it launched a swarm of 103 mini drones

0:06:55 > 0:06:56into the sky from fighter jets.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58The unmanned aerial vehicles were deployed

0:06:58 > 0:06:59to operate autonomously.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01It's thought the system could potentially be used to carry

0:07:01 > 0:07:10out surveillance operations in the future.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Hello, I'm Charles Martinet and I'm the voice of...

0:07:13 > 0:07:14It's a me, Mario!

0:07:14 > 0:07:14Woo-hoo!

0:07:14 > 0:07:15And Luigi too!

0:07:15 > 0:07:15Haw-haw!

0:07:15 > 0:07:16And Wario!

0:07:16 > 0:07:20And baby Luigi!

0:07:20 > 0:07:21And baby Mario!

0:07:21 > 0:07:22Let's go!

0:07:22 > 0:07:26Ya-hoo!

0:07:26 > 0:07:28And that was Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, Nintendo's

0:07:29 > 0:07:38most famous character.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40And he's helping us to introduce Ninty's brand-new games console.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44It's a little bit different as you might expect and Marc has

0:07:44 > 0:07:45been trying it out.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49Nintendo Switch is an unusual games console because it does a couple

0:07:49 > 0:07:50of different things.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53Firstly it's a portable machine.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55It's got this tablet like touchscreen with a 720p

0:07:55 > 0:07:59resolution, it can be played out and about on the move and then

0:07:59 > 0:08:01when it docks in this little station here,

0:08:01 > 0:08:04like Mario after he has chowed down on those power-boosting mushrooms,

0:08:04 > 0:08:07it supercharges the machine graphics capabilities up to 1080p full HD

0:08:07 > 0:08:15and can be played using a normal television becoming a home console.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18The controllers, which Nintendo has dubbed joycons, can slide off

0:08:18 > 0:08:21the side of the portable unit and they can be configured

0:08:21 > 0:08:28in a couple of different ways.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31The individual joycon parts can be used for multiplayer and when it's

0:08:31 > 0:08:34docked, the player can use a separate controller or plug them

0:08:34 > 0:08:37into a battery pack, turning them into this beast.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40Now, the joycons have got a number of different motor control features

0:08:40 > 0:08:43that can be demonstrated in this mini game here.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46It's called Quickdraw and weirdly what it does is it pulls the player

0:08:46 > 0:08:48away from the screen and towards one another.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52So to that end I have a cowboy opponent here and we're

0:08:52 > 0:09:01going to have a shootout.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03So let's load our weapons, get ready.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05This is where you get your best Clint Eastwood on.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08And I live to fight another day!

0:09:08 > 0:09:11But what that ably shows is that the designers are thinking

0:09:11 > 0:09:13differently about the kind of games that can be played

0:09:13 > 0:09:21using this device.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25As far as games are concerned, in the works is a new title

0:09:25 > 0:09:27for the portly Italian plumber, the real-world set

0:09:27 > 0:09:33Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

0:09:33 > 0:09:37Nintendo's last console, the Wii U, had a bunch of issues from day one.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40There was an additional controller for their already Wii console,

0:09:40 > 0:09:42where in fact it was a brand-new console.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46With the Switch they have the same issue again but this time they have

0:09:46 > 0:09:49to nail down the third-party support and getting more of the core gamer

0:09:49 > 0:09:51back on board with their product.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54Perhaps the biggest hurdle for the Switch is its price.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57At ?279, the Switch might have a tough time against its rivals

0:09:57 > 0:09:58from Microsoft and Sony.

0:09:58 > 0:10:07We'll find out when it's released on March the third.

0:10:07 > 0:10:24BBC Click, here we go!

0:10:24 > 0:10:27That was Lara and I've been out of bed for precisely the length

0:10:27 > 0:10:29of that report.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32About time I turn in for the night but oh,

0:10:32 > 0:10:34no, I've forgotten to make the bed.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37Fortunately I've got a smart duvet, which means that from anywhere

0:10:37 > 0:10:40in the world I can click the app and the thing makes itself.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44It's got an inflatable sheet inside and the idea is you programme

0:10:44 > 0:10:48it to do this at any time you want on any day you want.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52Yes, it is a bit noisy but the idea is you're not meant to be

0:10:52 > 0:11:02here when it does it.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04It might scare the cat mind you.

0:11:04 > 0:11:13But that's not the end of the story.

0:11:13 > 0:11:17If you're a snorer or you sleep with a snorer then pay attention

0:11:17 > 0:11:20because tonight I am sleeping on Nora, which is an anti-snoring

0:11:20 > 0:11:24device you put under your pillow.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27If this microphone detects the sound of snoring during the night,

0:11:27 > 0:11:29it will activate this silent fan which inflates Nora,

0:11:29 > 0:11:33moving the pillow and your head just enough to reactivate your throat

0:11:33 > 0:11:33muscles, open your airways and stop you from snoring.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39You can track how many times it's been activated during the night

0:11:39 > 0:11:43on the app if you want, or you can just have a good night's

0:11:43 > 0:11:46sleep, safe in the knowledge that whoever else is in the room

0:11:46 > 0:11:47with you is also getting a good night's sleep.
