:01:53. > :01:57.newspapers and played music on the wireless, our bodies were put

:01:57. > :02:03.through a reasonable range of movements. As we are increasingly

:02:03. > :02:07.using tablets and smart phones for, well, pretty much everything, we're

:02:07. > :02:14.spending a lot of time both typing and brooding on them and using a

:02:14. > :02:18.few specific actions many times. -- and reading. There are a number of

:02:18. > :02:23.issues to do with sitting at a computer for too long, not sitting

:02:23. > :02:28.comfortably and not taking train brakes. Tablets and smart phones

:02:28. > :02:35.have not been as long for so long. -- taking screen breaks. We have to

:02:35. > :02:40.get to grips with how to enjoy them comfortably. Using these devices

:02:40. > :02:47.puts our muscles and joints at a mechanical disadvantage. We work

:02:47. > :02:52.harder, expend more energy. People describe a range of problems. These

:02:52. > :02:57.range from pain and ageing through to tingling, pins and needles,

:02:57. > :03:07.numbness, swelling, headaches. There is a range of things. The

:03:07. > :03:08.head, neck, shoulders, hands and wrists. Of recent survey by the

:03:08. > :03:14.Chartered Society of physiotherapists suggest that

:03:14. > :03:19.people spend a further 2.5 hours on mobile devices after getting home

:03:19. > :03:25.from work. It is no surprise repetitive strain injury is

:03:25. > :03:31.becoming a bigger issue. Hands are a very complex system of tendons

:03:31. > :03:36.and pulleys. They become inflamed and thickened. You can end up with

:03:36. > :03:41.carpal tunnel, tendons running up and down the wrists and the nerves

:03:41. > :03:48.get trapped. Patients wake up in the middle of the night with

:03:48. > :03:55.tingling in their fingers, shaking their hands. It is what we call the

:05:03. > :05:07.out of London for sending e-mails. I had been given this gadget that I

:05:07. > :05:13.thought was brilliant. You don't realise that something that you

:05:13. > :05:18.thought was such a gift can actually end up being a curse.
