:01:13. > :01:16.new hardware is lauded. It is always big, loud and bright but this year,

:01:17. > :01:22.for the first time, it is not just open to those who work in the games

:01:23. > :01:26.industry. 15,000 members of the public have also been allowed in,

:01:27. > :01:35.each paying up to $250 for a ticket. You do the maths. All of which means

:01:36. > :01:39.things have got a lot easier. Personally hasn't affected my

:01:40. > :01:43.enjoyment of the show at all. But the question is, are this year's

:01:44. > :01:49.crop of announcements worth the wait? How exciting a free use

:01:50. > :01:52.depends on whether the big console manufacturers have any big

:01:53. > :01:55.announcements or not. This year, Microsoft generated the most

:01:56. > :02:09.excitement by announcing a new console. We got hands-on. Welcome to

:02:10. > :02:16.ease 320 17. And with that, Phil Spencer kicked off the Xbox if free

:02:17. > :02:20.press event. It is a big year for Xbox as it announced a brand-new

:02:21. > :02:30.console, Gordon named Scorpio is now called... Xbox one X. Its high-end

:02:31. > :02:35.spec includes six teraflops of graphic performance. That compares

:02:36. > :02:39.to the appeals for's broke 4.2. It is capable of producing four K high

:02:40. > :02:46.dynamic range visuals at 60 frames a second. As well is producing Dolby

:02:47. > :02:50.Atmos audio. All this adds up to a whole lot of horsepower for a

:02:51. > :02:56.console. It is being billed as the most powerful console ever but is

:02:57. > :03:00.more computational grunt enough to shift Sony from its number one

:03:01. > :03:06.position in the console market? In an attempt to do just that a parade

:03:07. > :03:10.of four K resolution games assaulted the senses. Including a peek at the

:03:11. > :03:19.latest addition to the popular Assassin's Creed series, this one

:03:20. > :03:26.set in Egypt. The expendables Terry crews are brings the smack down to

:04:23. > :04:28.the way of fan favourites and Franchises such as gears of War.

:04:29. > :04:32.Some Franchises people now will be coming, Halo, gears of War. I spent

:04:33. > :04:37.last month, I was both the studios last month looking at amazing work

:04:38. > :04:40.they were doing. We feel this arena with great games without even

:04:41. > :04:45.bringing in the biggest game Franchises. If more power than

:04:46. > :04:48.important when bringing out a new machine? The tender has done quite

:04:49. > :04:54.well with its new machine which is arguably the least powerful console

:04:55. > :04:59.on the market. Power is poured in to the premium customer. You also want

:05:00. > :05:03.games like mine craft, one of the biggest games on the planet,

:05:04. > :05:05.playable across a whole lineup of consoles, connecting everyone

:05:06. > :05:13.together. It is about content for everybody. Here it is. The most

:05:14. > :05:19.powerful console that Microsoft has ever made. We do know what it looks

:05:20. > :05:23.like. It is actually quite slimline. Smaller than the old machine, the

:05:24. > :05:30.Xbox one F. And we know how much cost. ?449. And we know it is

:05:31. > :05:34.released on November seven. We do not know what games are like when

:05:35. > :05:38.you actually power the machine up, grab hold of the controller and play

:05:39. > :05:49.them on it. To find that out, I have to go over there. OK, now you may

:05:50. > :05:54.think that my driving here is a little scrappy but there is method

:05:55. > :05:59.to my madness. By damaging the car I can see the additional level of

:06:00. > :06:02.detail it has added. You can see individual raindrops. A smorgasbord

:06:03. > :06:07.of different weapon affects going on here. All of them showing what this

:06:08. > :06:13.machine is capable of. The first time I played a game on the new Xbox

:06:14. > :06:16.one X and I just played motorsport seven. The most recognisable of all

:06:17. > :06:21.titles will be launched with this machine when it comes out later this

:06:22. > :06:26.year. It is fantastic. The beautiful game to look at and as you expect,

:06:27. > :06:37.it has four K resolution. But there is more to this than just incredible

:06:38. > :06:39.graphics. That was Mark and, interestingly, no talk of the Yarra

:06:40. > :06:49.at Microsoft but, never fear, Mohammed is here. The cool thing

:06:50. > :06:54.here is that this is a HTC five running without the usual cables

:06:55. > :06:58.trailing to a PC. This has, until recently, been very, very hard to do

:06:59. > :07:02.because there is just too much of a delay between movements and what you

:07:03. > :07:08.see on the headset when you do not use cables. That results in much of

:07:09. > :07:13.motion sickness. But display link has managed to cut the chords and

:07:14. > :07:18.use its own compression technology and 60 gigahertz transmitter on the

:07:19. > :07:25.headset to reduce latency to less than five ms. Right. Next up,

:07:26. > :07:32.Nintendo's big announcement at E63. -- if free. Nintendo has not had the

:07:33. > :07:38.best couple of years. Its last console, the Wii you, failed to

:07:39. > :07:42.connect with the public. With the release of the Switch and its

:07:43. > :07:46.success is the fastest selling console Nintendo history, crowds

:18:58. > :19:08.host of VR games, like Star Child. And an utterly bonkers Final Fantasy

:19:09. > :19:12.VR fishing game. Final Fantasy 15: Monster of the Deep. PlayStation is

:19:13. > :19:20.riding high at the moment with its PS4 outselling its rival, the Xbox

:19:21. > :19:24.one. But with the superpowerful Xbox 1X on the horizon, will things like

:19:25. > :19:28.we are help Sony to maintain its lead? Over the long-term it really

:19:29. > :19:33.is an opportunity to create a new entertainment medium, but I do

:20:06. > :20:09.really good we are content. The Xbox 1X is an enormously powerful machine

:20:10. > :20:13.and is in danger of being left behind in terms of producing the

:20:14. > :20:16.most powerful console out there. I think the consumer will have to look

:20:17. > :20:21.at both systems and make a comparison. Obviously there is a

:20:22. > :20:24.significant price differential between the two units, which plays

:20:25. > :20:32.it somewhat towards our advantage, and I think with PS4 Pro you get

:20:33. > :20:34.some additional benefits if you are interested in VR. So if we are

:20:35. > :20:53.confident where we stand now. That was Mark at Sony. Now, three

:20:54. > :20:57.more people playing video games. Actually, two playing games and one

:20:58. > :21:02.watching a movie, all on the same screen. But depending on where you

:21:03. > :21:05.sit, you get a different view. The secret is actually in this special

:21:06. > :21:09.reflective screen, which only reflects the light from this

:21:10. > :21:13.projector straight back in this direction, that means no one else

:21:14. > :21:19.can see this and in fact you have a load of projectors all shining

:21:30. > :21:34.bit more to do. There are a few things you can guarantee at E3 every

:21:35. > :21:40.year. Bright lights, lots of noise and lots of sequels too. These are

:21:41. > :21:46.the fan favourites which seemed to get a new rich region every few

:21:47. > :21:51.months -- new iteration every few months and they are in danger of

:21:52. > :21:53.getting repetitive, but this year some franchises were thrown up a few

:21:54. > :21:58.surprises. Videogames publishers love a sequel.

:21:59. > :22:02.All you have to do is take a pop at title, make a few tweaks and then

:22:03. > :22:10.push out an annual refresh. -- popular title. But at E3 there are

:22:11. > :22:17.couple of sequels that had to work a little bit harder than usual. A good

:22:18. > :22:21.example is the polarising sci-fi settings from the last couple of

:22:22. > :22:24.games that have been replaced by a period of history which originally

:22:25. > :22:34.inspired this series, the Second World War.

:22:35. > :22:40.Who needs railguns, robots and energy shields? Got a rifle, a

:22:41. > :22:50.helmet and a determination to take the speech! The gameplay is chaotic,
