0:00:53 > 0:00:54Nadia Murad, welcome to HARDtalk.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Thank you.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Before Islamic State militants came to your village 18 months ago,

0:00:59 > 0:01:04can you give us a sense of what your life was like?

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Can you tell us what happened when the Islamic State militants

0:01:42 > 0:01:43came to your village?

0:04:05 > 0:04:08So, you have a large family.

0:04:08 > 0:04:09How many of your brothers did they take?

0:04:32 > 0:04:33How did you know?

0:04:33 > 0:04:36Were you aware of what was happening?

0:05:07 > 0:05:08OK.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10So 700 men disappeared, basically.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13They killed your mother as well, I think.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03Can you tell us what happened when they took you and the other women?

0:06:03 > 0:06:05Where did they take you?

0:06:05 > 0:06:06What did they do to you?

0:06:50 > 0:06:52And then when you got to Mosul, what happened to you then?

0:07:39 > 0:07:41And then what happened?

0:08:50 > 0:08:54So, you went with the man that you thought might be easier for you,

0:08:54 > 0:08:57a smaller man, than the big man.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58And what did he do?

0:10:14 > 0:10:16You say your nieces were also there.

0:10:16 > 0:10:18How young were some of the girls there?

0:10:36 > 0:10:37You were held for three months.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40In that time, did you have conversations or any normal

0:10:40 > 0:10:45conversations with these people who were holding you?

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Did any of the Islamic State men or women show you any compassion?

0:12:54 > 0:12:59You said that they told you to convert to Islam.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01Did you think about that?

0:13:18 > 0:13:19What?

0:13:19 > 0:13:22They would force you to pray, to behave like a Muslim,

0:13:22 > 0:13:24rather than a Yazidi?

0:13:28 > 0:13:31How did you manage to escape?

0:15:21 > 0:15:26And that allowed you to escape and get out?

0:15:26 > 0:15:29There are many women who have been held who killed themselves

0:15:29 > 0:15:36out of desperation.

0:15:36 > 0:15:40Was it something that at the time you thought?

0:16:33 > 0:16:35But I wonder that you didn't question your faith,

0:16:35 > 0:16:37you didn't wonder given what happened to you whether there

0:16:38 > 0:16:41was a God.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36And we should explain that the Yazidi faith,

0:17:36 > 0:17:43there are only a few thousand people left in the world who practise.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17And when you think about the men who raped you in the time

0:18:17 > 0:18:21you were being held, what do you want to happen to them?

0:18:27 > 0:18:30You would like to see them prosecuted in an international

0:18:30 > 0:18:31court?

0:18:31 > 0:18:35Do you also want to see soldiers, ground troops, going in from Western

0:18:35 > 0:18:39countries to take on Islamic State?

0:20:10 > 0:20:12There are young people all over the world who are attracted

0:20:12 > 0:20:15by what so-called Islamic State are doing and want to go

0:20:16 > 0:20:16fight for them.

0:20:16 > 0:20:20What do you say to them?

0:21:26 > 0:21:29You have been all over the world with your campaign to get the world

0:21:29 > 0:21:31to notice what is going on.

0:21:31 > 0:21:33You have spoken at the United Nations.

0:21:33 > 0:21:35What difference is it making?

0:22:36 > 0:22:38Do you have any hope they will do something,

0:22:39 > 0:22:42they will be able to stop Isis?

0:22:42 > 0:22:51Nadia Murad, thank you for coming on HARDtalk.
