:00:00. > :00:00.reporting these sorts of offences is not that they are not encouraged to
:00:00. > :00:00.do so. Quite the reverse, they are. We need to make sure those lessages
:00:07. > :00:10.are clear. Questions to the Minister for Women and Equalities, Vhcky
:00:11. > :00:18.Foxcroft. Question number one, Mr Speaker.
:00:19. > :00:27.Thank you, Mr Speaker. We w`nt to provide all young people with a
:00:28. > :00:31.curriculum that prepares thdm to succeed in modern Britain, that is
:00:32. > :00:34.why we want to make sure th`t sex and relationship education really is
:00:35. > :00:38.fit for the world the children live in today and I agree we need to look
:00:39. > :00:41.at how schools deliver high,quality and age-appropriate sex and
:00:42. > :00:45.relationship education. We `re carefully considering all the
:00:46. > :00:49.options including updating our guidance and I will give an update
:00:50. > :00:53.shortly. The women's and eqtalities select committee has recommdnded
:00:54. > :00:57.that the government and meant that keeping children safe in edtcation
:00:58. > :01:00.guidance, to include the issue of sexual harassment and sexual
:01:01. > :01:04.violence in schools. When does the government plan to release the
:01:05. > :01:09.updated guidance? And will the government consults with spdcialists
:01:10. > :01:09.working in the field of sextal harassment and violence agahnst
:01:10. > :01:17.women and girls? I agree we need to look at how we
:01:18. > :01:21.make sure this guidance is up-to-date. From my perspective the
:01:22. > :01:23.key thing is making sure our young people have the right inforlation
:01:24. > :01:28.that they need, that they gdt the right advice. And that throtgh this
:01:29. > :01:32.guidance and quality of teaching we have in schools, we have thd right
:01:33. > :01:35.attitudes of a young generation growing up in our country. She is
:01:36. > :01:41.absolutely right to highlight the need to get that done effectively.
:01:42. > :01:44.That is what I intend to do. The select committee report the
:01:45. > :01:50.honourable lady referred to uncovered a shocking truth that most
:01:51. > :01:54.girls in secondary education had suffered physical or verbal sexual
:01:55. > :01:58.abuse. Four select committeds are now calling for sex and rel`tionship
:01:59. > :02:04.education to be made compulsory what more evidence is the mhnister
:02:05. > :02:09.looking for? Minister. Again, I don't disagree with the points she
:02:10. > :02:13.makes. The women and equality select committee report into this `rea was
:02:14. > :02:17.an excellent report that will - we will shortly be responding to. I
:02:18. > :02:22.talked about the nature of what we will need to look at. There are also
:02:23. > :02:27.questions in relation to wh`t this comprises, how it is taught, high
:02:28. > :02:32.quality, and how she suggests, where it is taught and the breadth of
:02:33. > :02:36.schools we expect it to be taught in. Nine out of ten secondary school
:02:37. > :02:41.teachers say they have seen children bullied in relation to sexu`l
:02:42. > :02:44.harassment. It is totally unacceptable. But we do need to make
:02:45. > :02:48.sure that as we take the next step forward on this that we do ht in a
:02:49. > :02:51.thoughtful, measured approach that responds to today's problem. Thank
:02:52. > :02:55.you Mr Speaker, I would likd to thank the women parliamentarians and
:02:56. > :02:59.campaigners that come beford us to get equality and justice in this
:03:00. > :03:04.country. I am sure all of us want to take this forward. Good. Thd
:03:05. > :03:08.secretary of state has an Adam Rumble record in her support of sex
:03:09. > :03:09.and relationship education `nd I welcome the comments today ,- has an
:03:10. > :03:16.admirable record. Having healthy friendships hs the
:03:17. > :03:22.cornerstone, with others, in preventing a abuse, hate crhme and
:03:23. > :03:27.violence. This is supported by five separate committees and all of the
:03:28. > :03:29.leading charities. Could be secretary of state tell us when she
:03:30. > :03:33.will introduce sex and relationship education for all children, from Key
:03:34. > :03:37.stage one, regardless of whdre they are educated?
:03:38. > :03:44.I would like to welcome her to her role, particularly as she is the MP
:03:45. > :03:49.who represents my hometown of Rotherham, and I can assure her it
:03:50. > :03:52.is important we make sure the different ages that children need to
:03:53. > :03:57.start understanding about relationships, means that what we
:03:58. > :04:02.are teaching them in schools is age-appropriate. It is mand`tory for
:04:03. > :04:06.all maintained secondary schools to do sex and relationship education.
:04:07. > :04:09.Primary schools have more flexibility, but she is right to
:04:10. > :04:20.highlight that if we want to get this right, we need to look at
:04:21. > :04:23.starting at an earlier age. Some women might be forgiven for thinking
:04:24. > :04:30.that every day is actually International Men's Day. But this
:04:31. > :04:33.year, it is in fact on the 09th of November and the theme is m`king a
:04:34. > :04:39.difference for men and boys. This year, there will be focused on the
:04:40. > :04:44.important issue of men's suhcide. It will be up to backbenchers to bid
:04:45. > :04:50.for Parliamentary time on this, I would encourage them to do this and
:04:51. > :04:58.support any initiatives to support gender equality. The absolute she
:04:59. > :05:02.has no plans. Perhaps, her department should take International
:05:03. > :05:06.Men's Day as seriously as the Prime Minister does. The Prime Minister
:05:07. > :05:13.says, I recognise the importance of this event, including men's suicide,
:05:14. > :05:18.men's health and under underperformance of boys in schools.
:05:19. > :05:22.Why is International Men's Day not as important to the equalithes
:05:23. > :05:27.minister as it is to the Prhme Minister? He is being a little bit
:05:28. > :05:31.unfair in his comments. The role of the government equalities office is
:05:32. > :05:36.to tackle inequality where dver we find it and as parents of sons are
:05:37. > :05:41.condoned this country, incltding myself, will all be concerndd about
:05:42. > :05:47.these issues, but I am award that there are parts of the world where
:05:48. > :05:51.girls are routinely subjectdd to genital mutilation, forced larriage
:05:52. > :05:56.and sexual violence and for me, equality is not a 0-sum gamd. Would
:05:57. > :05:59.the Minister agree with me that International Men's Day would give
:06:00. > :06:03.an opportunity for men who were fathers and daughters to express
:06:04. > :06:08.concerns such as mothers datghters might have to wait another 30 years
:06:09. > :06:11.for equal pay or to give melber platform to express concerns as to
:06:12. > :06:16.why there continues to be a problem in this country and abroad of
:06:17. > :06:21.violence against women and girls? He is absolutely right, but
:06:22. > :06:24.International Men's Day in the UK does take a very gender inclusive
:06:25. > :06:29.approach and therefore belidves that issues affecting women and girls are
:06:30. > :06:33.also resolved. He makes an hmportant point about the gender pay gap and
:06:34. > :06:38.we welcome reports that the gender pay gap has fallen again and is at
:06:39. > :06:42.the lowest rate it has ever been. But he is right to say that, while
:06:43. > :06:45.focusing on the important issues that International Men's Dax
:06:46. > :06:51.reasons, we must never forgdt all the women around the world who are
:06:52. > :06:55.suffering every single day. In seeking ways to celebrate
:06:56. > :06:59.International Woman's Day, no doubt the Minister has looked at countries
:07:00. > :07:03.around the world to see how they do that best. Which countries celebrate
:07:04. > :07:12.International Men's Day best and will she take the example? There are
:07:13. > :07:15.many countries that celebrate International Men's Day and there
:07:16. > :07:18.are various different ways they do that, focusing on health and
:07:19. > :07:22.well-being, highlighting tstnami screaming Asian against men and
:07:23. > :07:30.promoting gender equality. This creates a safer world for everybody
:07:31. > :07:42.and it is always to be commdnded. -- high racing discrimination `gainst
:07:43. > :07:46.men. Women are killed by thdir partners every week and we need
:07:47. > :07:51.action to tackle inequality. Does the Minister agree that we need
:07:52. > :07:57.campaigns to tackle misogynx and sexist attitudes and that mdn have
:07:58. > :08:02.crucial roles to play in thhs? She is absolutely right to point out
:08:03. > :08:06.that last year, 81 women were killed by violent partners are ex-partners
:08:07. > :08:11.and in fact, 19 men were killed by violent partners are ex-partners as
:08:12. > :08:14.well. That is why this government is absolutely committed to tackling
:08:15. > :08:18.violence against women and girls. We have put more money into thhs than
:08:19. > :08:30.ever before and we will not rest until this happens. The govdrnment
:08:31. > :08:35.will make no further changes to the pension age or pay financial redress
:08:36. > :08:39.in lieu of pension. ?1.1 billion has already been committed to ldssen the
:08:40. > :08:43.impact of changes on those who will be most affected so that no one will
:08:44. > :08:48.experience a change of more than 18 months. It is clear that thd pension
:08:49. > :08:55.campaigning women and the m`ny supporters agree that the government
:08:56. > :09:00.has not done enough. Will you publish the impact of these changes
:09:01. > :09:07.and any transitional changes at the time of the 2011 act and in the
:09:08. > :09:09.period since? This government has made ?1.1 billion worth of
:09:10. > :09:14.transitional arrangements available because of these changes. It is
:09:15. > :09:19.really important to recognise that this is about and doing a hhstoric
:09:20. > :09:22.unfairness, equalising the state pension age. I think that is

:09:51. > :09:57.colleagues in the Treasury to private roads this ahead of the
:09:58. > :10:00.Autumn Statement? There havd been a range of potential options put
:10:01. > :10:07.forward by a number of diffdrent campaigns. What is clear is that
:10:08. > :10:12.hasn't been anything signifhcantly aims at those who are suffering
:10:13. > :10:20.under the changes. None of these have been affordable at unacceptable

:10:28. > :10:31.on how best to provide legal protection against caste
:10:32. > :10:35.discrimination later this ydar. I know my honourable friend t`ke this
:10:36. > :10:41.seriously and has representdd his position as a's views in thhs. Thank
:10:42. > :10:49.you. In excess of 85% of Brhtish Hindus consider having castd as a

:10:59. > :11:04.legislation, you will look `t all measures, including abolition of
:11:05. > :11:09.caste? This will be an open consultation. We know and understand
:11:10. > :11:12.how very sensitive and emothve this subject areas and also that there
:11:13. > :11:17.are very strong opinions on either side of it, so we need to look at
:11:18. > :11:22.how we can provide the best and the necessary level of legal protection

:11:45. > :11:48.for International Development, working hand-in-hand with the

:12:05. > :12:15.these are generational issuds that take time to slowly shift, but we

:12:33. > :12:35.how to increase ethnic diversity in FTSE 100 companies and we expect the

:13:27. > :13:33.why we have established a rdview to look at the obstacles faced by
:13:34. > :13:41.business in developing BAME talent across the board. It is a lhttle
:13:42. > :13:50.disappointing that the government hasn't put as much resources into
:13:51. > :13:53.developing the review, but there has been a significant drop in diversity

:14:16. > :14:19.anybody who wants to see grdater board diversity, but greater

:16:24. > :16:35.apprenticeships, while only 400 women did. Will the Minister commit
:16:36. > :16:42.to achieving 50% of girls for STEM apprenticeships? We have sedn an
