:00:00. > :00:00.London to trespassing, after scaling the walls of Buckingham Palace. At

:00:00. > :00:16.ten o'clock we will have a full round-up of the day's news. First

:00:17. > :00:35.Newswatch. Welcome to Newswatch. Coming up, Newsbeat's website and

:00:36. > :00:40.application is disappearing, what is going to happen to young people's

:00:41. > :00:42.news? And was it worth tracking down this man in America just a comment.

:00:43. > :00:46.When a plane drops out of the sky When a plane drops out of the sky

:00:47. > :00:52.without explanation, broadcasters are faced with a challenge. When in

:00:53. > :00:56.Egypt Air flight bound for Cairo dropped off the radar, it was clear

:00:57. > :00:58.something serious had occurred. For a long time it was not clear what

:00:59. > :01:24.happened. This man was not happy... Although the inquests into the

:01:25. > :01:27.deaths of 96 football fans at Hillsborough 25 years ago has

:01:28. > :01:35.finished, a criminal enquiry into the disaster has continued. One of

:01:36. > :01:38.those under investigation is the match commander David ducking birth,

:01:39. > :01:43.the BBC has been trying to track down the commander, on Wednesday he

:01:44. > :01:50.was tracked down on a family trip to San Francisco. Can I ask you a

:01:51. > :01:55.reaction? Just at the moment ongoing criminal enquiries, I am afraid I am

:01:56. > :02:00.unable to comment. I hope you excuse me. Do you have a message for the

:02:01. > :02:06.families? I have said what I'm going to say. A polite encounter,

:02:07. > :02:11.prompting a question from viewers. Why on earth was it necessary to

:02:12. > :02:16.send Duncan Kennedy to San Francisco airport to spring and harass David

:02:17. > :02:22.Dukinfield, regarding Hillsborough? It was an appalling unjustified

:02:23. > :02:29.intrusion by a reporter hell-bent on pushing a microphone into his face.

:02:30. > :02:34.Knowing full well he would not be able to answer questions, quite

:02:35. > :02:40.rightly. Due to the ongoing legal issues. Someone is very obviously

:02:41. > :02:46.monitoring David Dukinfield's movements. Which in itself is

:02:47. > :02:51.worrying and disgraceful. Why did the BBC feel it was necessary to

:02:52. > :02:55.send a reporter and camera crew to San Francisco to ask questions of

:02:56. > :03:00.David Dukinfield, because of the potential for future litigation, he

:03:01. > :03:03.was unable to answer? Was this a sensible use of resources? We asked

:03:04. > :03:32.BBC News for a response. BBC News announced a big shake-up of

:03:33. > :03:37.online offerings this week in light of government pressure to offer

:03:38. > :03:42.distinct content, which does not in pain during commercial rivals.

:03:43. > :03:47.Making the headlines about other changes, was the fate of 11,000

:03:48. > :03:54.recipes, some on the licence fee funded BBC Food, some on BBC Good

:03:55. > :04:00.Food, which suddenly became the subject of fevered debate. Many

:04:01. > :04:09.people think the BBC has been encroaching on the market. The BBC

:04:10. > :04:12.recipe website will close. All of the recipes will survive, but many

:04:13. > :04:18.will be increasingly hard to find. Shortly after that was broadcast, on

:04:19. > :04:23.Tuesday afternoon, and as an online petition against the proposals

:04:24. > :04:30.neared 200,000 signatures, there was a U-turn. All of the recipes on the

:04:31. > :04:39.BBC Food website would now be available on BBC Good Food. What

:04:40. > :04:49.does this have to do with their conversation? More than you think.

:04:50. > :04:55.Commercial rivals want BBC Two lessen its content. There will be

:04:56. > :05:01.changes how you find reason to -- how you find regional news, and the

:05:02. > :05:05.closing of Newsbeat. Those content will be moved to the main BBC News

:05:06. > :05:33.website. There was concern on Twitter about this.

:05:34. > :05:44.I'm joined by Debbie Ramsey, the editor of radio one and Newsbeat.

:05:45. > :05:49.Newsbeat as a Brown has been around since the 1960s, it was just radio.

:05:50. > :05:55.Remind us of the range of content you make. Targeting 16-24

:05:56. > :05:59.-year-olds. What is the aim and secret of attracting them? The aim

:06:00. > :06:05.is to tap into subjects important to them. Lifestyle, money, music,

:06:06. > :06:10.education, politics. Makes sense of the world for them, so they are

:06:11. > :06:14.equipped to go forward. Also to give them a voice, so they can tell

:06:15. > :06:20.stories to the wider world. We do that in a range of ways now. A very

:06:21. > :06:28.long time since Newsbeat was just a radio programme, we make visual

:06:29. > :06:32.documentaries, we have a YouTube channel, all the social media, we

:06:33. > :06:43.reach them and tell stories that way. People would say in 2016, a

:06:44. > :06:50.dedicated website and app is exactly what young people need? Our

:06:51. > :06:54.audiences coming mainly through their website, 16-24 URLs, that is

:06:55. > :07:01.how they find us, through social media. -- 16-24 year olds. We will

:07:02. > :07:08.have a prominent place on the front page. Everybody will see us, that is

:07:09. > :07:14.really exciting. We will have an index page. We will keep doing those

:07:15. > :07:19.stories, there will be no letup in the original journalism we do. What

:07:20. > :07:26.about for people who were accessing news only through the Newsbeat app?

:07:27. > :07:31.Young audiences put off by the existing mainstream news products,

:07:32. > :07:36.and they need a different way in. That is what the BBC should be

:07:37. > :07:41.doing? Very few people tap in through the main site. Very small

:07:42. > :07:47.number, about two percent go to the home page. They are finding us from

:07:48. > :07:51.online news and social. We are taking the stories to them, really

:07:52. > :07:54.important for a young audience we are where they are. We will keep

:07:55. > :08:02.working in the same way, reducing those stories that nobody else is

:08:03. > :08:06.telling. We will be doing stories on Drake, the world's biggest artist

:08:07. > :08:12.signing to a small British label, because that is what our users want.

:08:13. > :08:20.Nobody else will touch it, but we will. There is a feeling that

:08:21. > :08:23.Newsbeat's presents will be reduced? We have social media, Facebook pages

:08:24. > :08:30.growing. We tell our stories in different ways. Not just an online

:08:31. > :08:37.site. Yesterday we tell the story of what is happening in Venezuela in 60

:08:38. > :08:42.seconds via a video on Facebook. That is not involved in the site,

:08:43. > :08:45.communicating with the audience. We pride ourselves on talking to our

:08:46. > :08:51.audience, on all the different mediums. If we are focusing on one,

:08:52. > :08:56.we are behind the times. We think of our audience, radio, online, online

:08:57. > :09:01.articles and stories, social media as well. They talk to us on those

:09:02. > :09:07.platforms, telling us things, we want to hear more about rights for

:09:08. > :09:14.under 25-year-old mothers to be at work. It turns out we can give a

:09:15. > :09:18.really good slant on stories in the mainstream as well, absolutely what

:09:19. > :09:26.we should be doing. Nobody is tackling. Thank you so much.

:09:27. > :09:33.We will be keeping our eyes out for further changes to the BBC website

:09:34. > :09:37.and other announcements expected from BBC News about the future of

:09:38. > :09:44.services in the next few weeks. A couple of your other comments. We

:09:45. > :09:49.know from recent announcements by Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson,

:09:50. > :09:53.any pronouncements about Adolf Hitler can get you into trouble. It

:09:54. > :09:58.was dangerous territory for this play out. You may be wondering how

:09:59. > :10:03.they reacted in Brussels when they heard Boris Johnson was comparing

:10:04. > :10:08.the EU to Nazi Europe. By pure good fortune, the exact moment the news

:10:09. > :10:46.broke was captured in the EU office. Allen last clip is from the same

:10:47. > :10:53.programme. EU referendum special edition of Newsnight. Kevin Davies

:10:54. > :10:59.explaining who contributed what to the European Union budget? If you

:11:00. > :11:03.look what you're putting, net, per head, Britain makes the seventh

:11:04. > :11:08.biggest contribution. Some legal life viewers noticed a surprising

:11:09. > :11:09.entry. We knew it took part in the Eurovision Song contest, rather

:11:10. > :11:29.successfully last weekend. We think they meant Austria! Thanks

:11:30. > :11:32.for your comments. If you want to share your news and opinions on

:11:33. > :11:34.current affairs, or want to appear on the programme. You can call us or

:11:35. > :11:49.e-mail us. Have a look at our website. That is

:11:50. > :11:51.all from us, back to hear your thoughts about BBC News coverage

:11:52. > :11:54.again next week. Goodbye.
