:00:00. > :00:00.will push for a Supreme Court judge was opposed to abortion. At 10pm,

:00:00. > :00:00.Fiona Bruce will be here with a full round-up of judo's news. First of

:00:07. > :00:17.all, it is news watch. Hello and welcome to news watch. It

:00:18. > :00:22.has been a long week in US politics but did BBC News go overboard and

:00:23. > :00:27.how it covered Donald Trump's inauguration and his first few days

:00:28. > :00:32.as president? And was it in the UK's public interest to focus in news

:00:33. > :00:39.bulletins on the failure of a Trident missile test last year?

:00:40. > :00:43.It has been a busy and controversial first week in office for President

:00:44. > :00:50.Trump and we have heard plenty about it on BBC News. It all started, of

:00:51. > :01:00.course, in Washington, DC. I Donald John Trump do solemnly swear that I

:01:01. > :01:09.will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States...

:01:10. > :01:18.And will do the best of my ability. And we'll do the best of my

:01:19. > :01:25.ability... Preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the

:01:26. > :01:33.United States. Before and after he took the oath of office, there were

:01:34. > :01:37.hours of coverage on many channels, with BBC One and BBC News showing

:01:38. > :01:44.exactly the same coverage, while BBC Parliament worship -- were showing

:01:45. > :01:46.the same live feed but without the BBC commentary. It was all too much

:01:47. > :01:54.for these two viewers who wrote: It was all too much

:01:55. > :02:08.for these two viewers who Nick Bishop had also had enough,

:02:09. > :02:11.e-mailing: we put those points to BBC News and

:02:12. > :02:52.they told since last Friday, we have had

:02:53. > :02:57.further complaints about the prominent in news headlines of the

:02:58. > :03:01.activities and pronouncements of the new president. The White House is

:03:02. > :03:06.accused of telling falsehoods in a battle with the media about

:03:07. > :03:12.President Trump's inauguration. The president opened his first full week

:03:13. > :03:15.in office by signing an order withdrawing the US from a trade

:03:16. > :03:20.agreement with Pacific Rim countries. He warned he will

:03:21. > :03:26.penalise countries who move jobs overseas. More executive orders

:03:27. > :03:32.signed by President Trump. This time, he revives plans to build two

:03:33. > :03:35.oil pipelines despite environmental concerns. He promised a wall and now

:03:36. > :03:41.he says he will build it within months. Stepping down for the first

:03:42. > :03:49.time from oh -- from apples one, President Trump looks forward to his

:03:50. > :03:55.meeting with Prime Minister made. I will have to handle it myself.

:03:56. > :03:59.Speaking last night, the Prime Minister said again -- the president

:04:00. > :04:04.said again he is determined to build a wall between the US and Mexico and

:04:05. > :04:08.suggested taxing them to pay for it. So, has the BBC been getting carried

:04:09. > :04:39.away with the new presidency? Victoria Wells thinks so.

:04:40. > :04:45.Meanwhile, to read the Reilly wrote to us on Monday after she had

:04:46. > :04:53.settled down to watch a report on the Supreme Court's judgment on

:04:54. > :05:19.Brexit. Do let us know your thoughts on the

:05:20. > :05:23.BBC's coverage of Donald Trump's presidency or any aspect of BBC

:05:24. > :05:26.News. Details of how to contact us coming up at the end of the

:05:27. > :05:33.programme. Now for your other concerns this week, starting with

:05:34. > :05:43.reports that an unarmed missile went off-course last June. Andrew Marr

:05:44. > :05:46.asked the Prime Minister about that many times. Did you know that

:05:47. > :05:52.misfire had occurred when he made the speech? I have absolute faith in

:05:53. > :05:57.our missiles. What are was talking about at the time was whether or not

:05:58. > :06:01.we should renew our Trident and whether or not we should have an

:06:02. > :06:06.independent nuclear deterrent in future. I think we should defend our

:06:07. > :06:13.country. I think we should play our way in Nato with an independent --

:06:14. > :06:17.with a nuclear deterrent. This is a very serious incident. Did you know

:06:18. > :06:20.about it when you told the House of Commons? The issue we were talking

:06:21. > :06:25.about in the House of Commons was very serious. The story was picked

:06:26. > :06:28.up in bulletins over the next couple of days but some viewers thought the

:06:29. > :07:12.concentration on it was ill-advised. We have been getting regular

:07:13. > :07:16.complaints and news watch about the way BBC News online words some of

:07:17. > :07:21.its headlines in tweets and on the website. Another example came this

:07:22. > :07:24.week. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled that Parliament must

:07:25. > :07:28.vote on whether the government can start the process of leaving the

:07:29. > :07:31.European Union. One of the campaigners who brought the case was

:07:32. > :07:39.Gina Miller, who has been subjected to a number of violent threats

:07:40. > :07:45.online and that prompted BBC News to put a tweet out asking if she was

:07:46. > :07:46.the most hated woman in the UK? It linked to a discussion on that but

:07:47. > :08:11.led to angry responses on twitter. BBC News gave us a statement

:08:12. > :08:38.response, which read: Wednesday's News at ten took some

:08:39. > :08:41.viewers by surprise with its lead story, a special report from Ed

:08:42. > :08:48.Thomas and the marked increase in knife crime in the UK. In five

:08:49. > :08:52.years' time, I could be in jail, could be dead, could be the biggest

:08:53. > :08:56.drug dealer in Liverpool, you never know, do you, until it happens?

:08:57. > :09:02.Tonight, it is Liverpool, but this story could be told in many cities.

:09:03. > :09:09.It is one of knives, fear and wasted lives. It started from selling a bit

:09:10. > :09:10.of weed, to selling a bit of class A 's. When did you start selling

:09:11. > :09:41.knives? -- carrying knives? Finally, it's been noted this week

:09:42. > :09:46.that BBC political correspondent Carole Walker is an early riser. On

:09:47. > :09:51.Wednesday, she was on air in the cold just after 6am. Our political

:09:52. > :09:55.correspondent Carole Walker is outside the houses of parliament for

:09:56. > :10:00.us. Good morning to you once again. We were hearing in Tom's piece about

:10:01. > :10:05.the Tory rebellion. How large a rebellion is that likely to be? It

:10:06. > :10:10.looks as though the number of Tories who will rebel were actually be

:10:11. > :10:14.quite small... And she was braving the elements in the same spot at the

:10:15. > :10:20.same hour on Friday. The Prime Minister has to do walk a tightrope

:10:21. > :10:23.between trying to get on the Donald Trump and also not annoying everyone

:10:24. > :10:27.back here with what she says to him. She is under a lot of pressure,

:10:28. > :10:36.isn't she? Absolutely. This will be a very important, significant and

:10:37. > :10:42.tricky meeting. Carol was also out and about first thing on Tuesday but

:10:43. > :10:44.in a different location. We can speak to Carole Walker outside

:10:45. > :10:49.Supreme Court this morning. I know Supreme Court this morning. I know

:10:50. > :10:52.they don't decide until 930 but what are the thoughts? The expectation

:10:53. > :10:57.widely is the judgment will go against the government, that Theresa

:10:58. > :11:01.May will be told she must seek the approval of parliament before she

:11:02. > :11:05.can trigger Article 50. As we have mentioned, the judgment did against

:11:06. > :11:27.-- did go against her but Steve had a question.

:11:28. > :11:33.Thank you for all your comments this week. If you want to share your

:11:34. > :11:41.opinions on BBC News and current affairs or even appear on the

:11:42. > :11:52.programme, you can call us, e-mail -- call us or e-mail. Do you have a

:11:53. > :11:56.look at our website as well. We will be back to hear your thoughts about

:11:57. > :12:11.BBC News coverage again next week. Goodbye.

:12:12. > :12:19.Coming up in a view minutes, a detailed look at the weather for the

:12:20. > :12:20.week ahead, followed up by the news at ten,
