:00:15. > :00:30.Al-Hoceima Hello and welcome. Later on the programme... Jeremy Corbyn

:00:31. > :00:35.comments went down well but was that because the audience was not well

:00:36. > :00:40.represented or did the BBC handle the programme Rob Lee? And where

:00:41. > :00:47.these pictures worthy of the attention they received? First,

:00:48. > :00:53.election campaigns are often defined by actual or perceived blunders but

:00:54. > :01:02.politicians caught on camera and microphones replayed endlessly

:01:03. > :01:08.increasingly so in the media social media age. Jeremy Corbyn had this

:01:09. > :01:14.encounter on Tuesday. How much will it cost to provide a means tested

:01:15. > :01:22.childcare for 1.3 million children. It will cost... It will obviously

:01:23. > :01:28.cost a lot to do so... I presume you have the figures? I will give you

:01:29. > :01:35.the figure in a moment. You do not know it? You are logging into your

:01:36. > :01:46.iPad. You're announcing a major policy and if you do not know how

:01:47. > :01:51.much it will cost. It featured on BBC but many viewers felt that too

:01:52. > :02:13.much was being made of a memory lapse...

:02:14. > :02:23.Another few recorded her thoughts for us on video. On Tuesday, we had

:02:24. > :02:28.the perfect illustration of the differential treatment of Labour and

:02:29. > :02:33.the Conservatives. Headline News on all the broadcast media because

:02:34. > :02:38.Jeremy Corbyn forgot her figure. Compare that to the treatment of

:02:39. > :02:44.Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, who on the today

:02:45. > :02:51.programme got his figures out by ?20 billion. It might have been balanced

:02:52. > :02:55.if they mention that Labour had a fully costed manifesto whereas the

:02:56. > :03:02.Tories manifesto was totally uncosted. Another election

:03:03. > :03:04.controversy followed on Wednesday after a debate featuring

:03:05. > :03:13.representatives of the seven main parties, including Amber Rudd and

:03:14. > :03:18.Jeremy Corbyn. I was thinking how chaotic it would be if they all got

:03:19. > :03:28.together... It felt by some viewers that it fell into chaos at times.

:03:29. > :03:48.One told us she found debates like that...

:03:49. > :03:55.More contentious the reaction of the audience put together by the polling

:03:56. > :04:05.company who were commissioned by the BBC. Have you seen people sleeping

:04:06. > :04:14.around our stations... CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. Have you seen the level...

:04:15. > :04:23.Jeremy Corbyn can you respond to that point... I am proud to lead

:04:24. > :04:31.this party and I was a late did. -- elect did. When Amber Rudd spoke,

:04:32. > :04:36.the audience responded in a less enthusiastic way. We have made it

:04:37. > :04:44.clear decision to make sure that we protect the poorest in our society.

:04:45. > :04:54.You have not. The pensioners will be protected. Judge us on our record...

:04:55. > :04:59.LAUGHTER. The following morning, the Daily Mail front page screamed of by

:05:00. > :05:09.yes and the Foreign Secretary called the audience the most left-wing he

:05:10. > :05:14.had ever seen. It was a yammering cacophony of views, many of them

:05:15. > :05:21.left wing. Even by the BBC standards, he would agree the

:05:22. > :05:26.audience was notably to the left of many people in this country. What

:05:27. > :05:36.did Newswatch view is think? One joins me. I was actually shocked by

:05:37. > :05:41.the audience reaction I thought the jeering and sharing of some people

:05:42. > :05:50.but the jeering of others was unacceptable. It seemed to be that

:05:51. > :05:54.the audience was, at least 80%, left of centre in its buyers and I

:05:55. > :05:59.thought that was completely unrepresentative of how the country

:06:00. > :06:05.votes. You raise the issue of whether the audience was unbalanced.

:06:06. > :06:12.The company said this earlier in the week. The reality was, the audience

:06:13. > :06:21.was scrupulously put together, select it and verified and I think a

:06:22. > :06:28.politician's clapometer is not the best way to judge how the voting

:06:29. > :06:33.public is, to open the bonnet and understand how the audience was put

:06:34. > :06:41.together. It is like constructing a giant 3-D jigsaw. You have to look

:06:42. > :06:46.how representative is... Making sure it is a conservative of the 2015

:06:47. > :06:55.result, the current voting tensions, the people who voted remain, until

:06:56. > :07:01.you it absolutely was. You raise concerns about the panellists. What

:07:02. > :07:05.was your concern about the way they came across and the way the debate

:07:06. > :07:09.worked? I do not understand why there were seven speakers and a

:07:10. > :07:15.number of them are from very small parties. If you look at the way

:07:16. > :07:23.people voted, one got .6% of the vote in 2015 or stop they all got an

:07:24. > :07:29.awful lot of air time and I do not know whether the audience... They

:07:30. > :07:35.say everyone was represented, was the Conservative audience of 40

:07:36. > :07:40.times... I just do not believe the audience was representative of the

:07:41. > :07:44.country. You also spoke about the sense that five leaders were

:07:45. > :07:51.essentially ganging up on Amber Rudd stop what could or should the BBC

:07:52. > :07:58.have done differently? It was very difficult. It is send it into chaos.

:07:59. > :08:04.It was shouting match. I thought Amber Rudd actually did very well,

:08:05. > :08:11.under a lot of aggression. I think that the presenter should have

:08:12. > :08:15.stopped some of these shouting. I think perhaps the BBC should have

:08:16. > :08:22.thought about the format. Seven speakers is too much. Perhaps two

:08:23. > :08:25.presenters. Ground rules at the beginning about not making personal

:08:26. > :08:30.attacks and not shouting at people. Basically it was a complete turnoff.

:08:31. > :08:37.I know a number of people who turned off the TV. At think it put most

:08:38. > :08:42.people off politics. We asked the BBC to come and talk about the

:08:43. > :09:09.concerns. No one is available at we do have a statement... -- but.

:09:10. > :09:18.That is what the BBC have had to say. A final word to you. I do not

:09:19. > :09:23.think that is correct. I do not think... I think the militant side

:09:24. > :09:30.of the audience hijacked the programme. I think it is happening

:09:31. > :09:35.more and more and I think if they were... If there was more central

:09:36. > :09:46.right wing viewers perhaps they did not want to speak up and be

:09:47. > :09:54.subjected to a barrage of abuse. Thank you very much. Finally, the

:09:55. > :09:59.aftermath of last week 's bomb attack in Manchester continues to

:10:00. > :10:08.attract headlines. CCTV footage of Salman Abedi Salman Abedi heralded

:10:09. > :10:14.as a feature. Contact a Mac a young man in a hooded top, on his own on a

:10:15. > :10:21.Sunday morning shop. In this footage obtained by the BBC, he looks

:10:22. > :10:28.relaxed as he is captured on CCTV browsing the shelves. He spent a

:10:29. > :10:32.pounds 74 and bought armaments, tuna, scouring pads and air

:10:33. > :10:39.freshener. Staff in the shop believe this was Salman Abedi Salman Abedi.

:10:40. > :10:43.Some viewers said they found this for you we stick and lacking in the

:10:44. > :10:48.news value. One recorded her thoughts on camera. I simply could

:10:49. > :10:55.not understand why that was considered to be major news and to

:10:56. > :11:00.warrant the main spot. Of course, such a great event needed extensive

:11:01. > :11:04.coverage but the coverage it should have been in use and not

:11:05. > :11:09.sensationalism. So many other things happened that week which were not

:11:10. > :11:14.mentioned or received a very scant coverage, to name one, 26 people

:11:15. > :11:20.were killed on a bus in Egypt and yet it was hardly mentioned. I felt

:11:21. > :11:27.really sad that taxpayers money is used to fund public broadcasting

:11:28. > :11:32.that sometimes sinks to the level of tabloid journalism. Thank you for

:11:33. > :11:40.all your comments this week. If you want to send us your opinion, call

:11:41. > :11:49.us on the telephone number on the screen. You can also e-mail us. Post

:11:50. > :11:58.your comments on Twitter and have a look at how website. -- our website.

:11:59. > :12:02.We are off air next week in the aftermath of the general election

:12:03. > :12:04.that in a fortnight we will be looking back at the campaign

:12:05. > :12:09.coverage. We'll do the easy bit first and then

:12:10. > :12:14.I'll give you the forecast, which is probably the bit

:12:15. > :12:16.you're after, anyway. A mixture of sunny

:12:17. > :12:18.spells and showers. Friday was not just

:12:19. > :12:20.as straightforward.
